Poor People's Campaign illustrated by Mina Tocalini for 360 MAGAZINE.

Nancy Pelosi × Poor People’s Campaign

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she will share the Poor People’s Campaign moral policy agenda with her colleagues in Congress, calling it “a sweeping transformative plan to advance the values of justice, fairness and the freedom upon which America was founded.”

Pelosi spoke during a congressional briefing that the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival held to review its Moral Policy Agenda to Heal America: The Poor People’s Jubilee Platform, released during a time of three pandemics: COVID-19, systemic racism and systemic poverty.

“A budget should be a statement of our national values,” Pelosi said. “What we care about as a nation should be reflected in our budget. This is a wonderful guide to lifting us to a higher standard.”

More than 200 activists listened to the briefing along with Democratic members of the House and Senate. Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, also were invited but did not attend.

“We’re looking for those Congress people that will champion not a left platform, not right platform, not a conservative platform and not a liberal platform, but a moral platform that’s rooted in our deepest moral principles, our deepest constitutional principles and yes, rooted in our deepest economic policies because … the cost of inequality is worse than the cost of fixing it,” said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign and president of Repairers of the Breach, based in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The sweeping Jubilee platform offers a roadmap for lawmakers to take seriously the moral and constitutional principles upon which this country was founded: to establish justice, promote the general welfare, ensure domestic tranquility, secure the blessings of liberty and provide for the common defense.

Policy prescriptions include new protections for voting rights, equitable and quality public education, guaranteed incomes and housing for all, including rehabilitating the country’s 18 million uninhabitable homes, a national water affordability plan, ending medical debt and student debt, and redirecting resources from policing, prison, immigration enforcement, the military and fair taxes towards living wages, a federal jobs program, green transition and more.

“For too long our society, including Congress, has invested in punishing the poor,” said Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign and director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights and Social Justice in New York City, “Too much state, local and federal money is invested in the wealthy and in large corporations while poor and low-income people are left to fend for ourselves.”

Mikaela Curry of Kentucky said she knows many people are thinking about her state because Breonna Taylor was killed in her home by police who broke in using a no-knock warrant and David McAtee was killed by the Kentucky National Guard during a protest in Louisville over Taylor’s death.

“I think a lot of times when people think of rural areas, when they think of rural, eastern Kentucky, they have fixed ideas about what that is,” she said. “I think when they think about rural folks, they think about hillbillies, and they think about rednecks, and they think about people from the South. But we’re not their scapegoats. We’re not on board with their regressive policies that are not just affecting Kentucky and are not just affecting the American South, but are affecting all of America.”

The briefing followed the campaign’s digital Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on June 20th, when more than 2.7 million people tuned in to the digital justice gathering to hear the reality facing 140 million people who are poor or low-income in the wealthiest country in the world and where 700 people die each day from poverty – even before COVID-19.

TyFontaine – Duse and Juice

Rapper and singer, TyFontaine, releases his latest single “Duse and Juice” featuring Lil Keed today via 10K Projects/Internet Money Records. The first single to be released following his eclectic debut album 1800, TyFontaine returns with playful energy and catchy lyrics in the summer party anthem. Beloved by fans for his range as a songwriter with work spanning from the 80s inspired “Moments” to the mosh pit energy of “Huh,” TyFontaine notes “I’m always trying to go into different sounds,” says Ty. “After I make one type of song, I don’t ever want to make the same thing again.”

LISTEN TO “DUSE AND JUICE” HERE

The first time he ever cut a record, 20-year-old rapper TyFontaine came up with a track that landed in rotation on a major local radio station. Originally from the D.C. area, Ty had stepped into the studio mostly as an experiment, then ended up kicking off the rapid rise of his music career.

“The sneaker store I was working at had a studio in the back, and a lot of rappers would come through there,” says Ty, who was a senior in high school at the time. “I got a free session because my friend was the head engineer, and I wrote this song called ‘Precision’ that won a contest and got played on the radio for two weeks. After that, it was just about changing things up and progressing to the highest point I could get to.”

Once he’d finished high school, Ty headed to New York City to study at St. John’s University and immediately linked up with a fellow rapper from his hometown. The two began working together in a Brooklyn studio, with Ty often recording until dawn and then heading back to the studio the very next night. “I knew that if I wanted to do music, then going into the studio was going to teach me a lot more than going to classes,” he says.

Dropping out after his first year at St. John’s, Ty returned home and kept making music, soon connecting with Internet Money producer SidePCE (Juice WRLD, Young Thug) through an Instagram live stream. After SidePCE sent him a pack of beats, Ty made a song called “Imagine” and posted an excerpt to Instagram, quickly catching the attention of Internet Money founder Taz Taylor and inking his record deal with Internet Money Records/10K Projects by the start of 2020.

Now based in L.A., Ty made his label debut with 1800 in April 2020 —a mixtape that showed off his sharper bars, tighter flows, and more complex hooks and expanded on the lyrical prowess he first brought to “Precision.” Already at work on his next mixtape, Ty hopes “ to make songs that people can hear and relate to or vibe to, to make something that people really cherish so that it becomes a part of their life forever.”

Kygo × Tina Turner

Global superstar, producer and DJ, Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll – a.k.a Kygo, teams up with the incomparable, brilliant, and legendary Grammy Award winning superstar Tina Turner to unveil a remake of “What’s Love Got To Do With It” – Turner’s iconic #1 song that was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and is included in Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” “What’s Love Got To Do With It” – out now via Sony Music International/Ultra Records/RCA Records, comes alongside a brand new video directed by Sarah Bahbah and stars Laura Harrier (Hollywood, Blackkklansman) and Charles Michael Davis (The Originals, The Vampire Diaries).

Says Kygo, “I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Tina Turner, who is an icon that I grew up listening to. ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is one of my all-time favorite songs so to have a chance to rework it has been a very special moment in my career. I love working around timeless vocals and although it’s challenging to preserve elements of the original track and adding my own touch, I’m extremely happy with how it turned out!” It’s been a big summer for Kygo who back in May released his critically acclaimed third full-length album Golden Hour  which features his hit single  “Lose Somebody” with OneRepublic as well as “Higher Love” with Whitney Houston, the latter of which has more than 651 million audio and video streams combined and charted at Top 40 radio. Kygo kicked off his album release day with performances of “Lose Somebody” with OneRepublic and “The Truth” with Valerie Broussard on Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series and will be performing on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon with OneRepublic on July 22nd.

Whether behind the piano in his studio or headlining a sold-out festival, Kygo quietly reaffirms his status as a prodigious talent, forward-thinking producer, dynamic DJ, and influential global superstar. The Norwegian musician born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll first introduced himself in 2013 and quietly became one of the most ubiquitous hitmakers in the world. Amassing 15 billion cumulative global audio and video streams and 3.3 billion YouTube views by 2020, he has broken numerous streaming records. He emerged as Spotify’s “Breakout Artist of 2015” powered by “Firestone” [feat Conrad Sewell] and “Stole the Show” [feat. Parson James]—certified gold or platinum in sixteen countries. These smashes cemented him as “the fastest artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.” Kygo earned one of his biggest hits with the multiplatinum “It Ain’t Me” [feat. Selena Gomez], going Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and clocking nearly 1 billion Spotify streams.

He maintained his momentum on the Stargazing EP and second album, Kids In Love. The ensuing Kids In Love Tour canvased four continents and sold out arenas. He ignited “Remind Me To Forget” [feat. Miguel] with 812 million total combined streams and views. Other collaborations include mega-hits with U2, Imagine Dragons, The Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, and Chelsea Cutler. In 2019, Kygo unleashed “Higher Love” with Whitney Houston and generated another 1 billion combined streams and views in addition to leaving his imprint on a classic. He heralded his 2020 third full-length album Golden Hour [Sony Music International/Ultra Records/RCA Records] with the anthems “Like It Is” [with Zara Larsson & Tyga] and “I’ll Wait” [with Sasha Sloan]. Now, Golden Hour signals Kygo’s brightest moment yet.

Tina Turner is revered around the world, inspiring millions through her own personal story, her singing, her dancing and beyond. Her music legacy is a collection of some of the best-known songs of all time, just utter the phrase “You’re simply the best” you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t know the next line! Turner rose to prominence in 1958, aged 19, as a duo with her then-husband Ike Turner, initially as a featured singer with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, recording under the name “Little Ann” on the track ‘Boxtop’.

Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in 1960 as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue with the hit single ‘A Fool In Love’ in 1960. Success followed with a string of notable hits, including ‘It’s Gonna Work Out Fine’ (1961), ‘River Deep – Mountain High’ (1966), ‘Proud Mary’ (1971), and ‘Nutbush City Limits’ (1973). In 1976, following a string of personal altercations, Tina left the musical duo and filed for divorce. A solo career ensued…In 1977, she went back on stage touring rigorously, then in November 1983, she released a cover of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ which became a hit. In June 1984 she released the ‘Private Dancer’ album and it’s second single ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ became a global smash as did the album.

From there, Tina became, and continues to be, one of the most loved artists in the world and this incredible career continues to build. In March 2018, ‘Tina’ – The Tina Turner Musical, opened at London’s Aldwych Theatre to amass acclaim with Radio 4’s Front Row calling it “One of the most impressive musicals I’ve ever seen” and The Times saying it is a “… raw musical triumph”. The smash hit ‘Tina’ – The Tina Turner Musical opened at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with ABC News raving, “Mind blowing and life changing. A story that needs to be shared, especially today,” and Billboard saying, “The powerhouse voice, jackhammer legs, and above all, the heart.

Not to be missed.” Her memoirs, ‘Tina Turner: My Love Story’, released in October 2018, was also met with a similar adulation, “Turner comes across as courageous, optimistic, big-hearted and generous” (Sunday Times), “Astonishing, soul-baring – the must-read memoir by rock’s greatest survivor” (Daily Mail) it also made the Mail On Sunday’s Books Of The Year list for 2018. In 2019, to celebrate Tina’s 80th birthday, her husband Erwin published “That´s My Life”, a Limited Edition photo book accompanied by letters from friends such as Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams and Beyonce.

2Rare – New Virus

Rising North Philadelphia rapper, 2Rare, releases his sophomore single “New Virus” today, via 10K Projects. Following the success of his debut, “Big Drippa” (1.5M Spotify streams), released earlier this year, 2Rare’s “New Virus” proves the young artist has a penchant for writing addictive melodies. In his latest track, 2Rare describes catching feelings as gaining a “New Virus” – a tongue-in-cheek title that also plays on the fears of the current pandemic.

Listen to “New Virus” here.

Growing up North Philly, 2Rare saw the rough side of the city up close and personal. “It’s wild out there,” he says. “Robberies and all that stuff going on. It’s crabs in a barrel.” Avoiding the perils of life in the street, he preferred to stay out of the way but that didn’t stop him from earning a local name for himself from an early age. First, he turned heads with his dancing, posting videos of himself doing the Wu-Tang — an energetic dance style that originated in North Philly —and going to his neighborhood skating rink on the weekend to showcase his skills. Then, he turned to football, spending time in between high school games practicing in his backyard and on his block. Bored during the offseason, he decided to book an hour-long session at a local studio and recorded his first-ever song, “Switch Sides,” an emotional track about loved ones turning to betrayal.

When he started missing school, and his high school football career went sideways, he began dedicating himself to the studio. The video for “No Brotherly Love,” a melodic song where 2Rare flips Philly’s historic slogan to address the jealousy and hate he’s seen in the city, instantly gained local traction. Despite the attention, he sought to further distance himself from negative themes and take his sound to the next level. “I can’t keep thinking street, ‘cause I really want to be everywhere,” he says. “I want to have my grandma dancing at the cookout and have my mom happy. I saw them stressed all the time so why make music to keep them stressing? I want it to feel good.”

Now, 2Rare has his eyes set on global stardom. His latest single, “Big Drippa,” rose to No. 15 on the SoundCloud Top 50 chart and has nearly nine million plays on the platform. Recently signed to Internet Money Records/ Homemade Projects/ 10K Projects, 2Rare has been working closely with Internet Money on his upcoming singles and debut project. Still, he’s taking fame one step at a time.

“I try not to stomach it yet ‘cause then I won’t have this hustle mentality that I have right now,” he says. “I ain’t trying to slow myself down at all.”

James Bay – Live Performance

In Case You Missed It: JAMES BAY // Live In London

Watch the performance HERE

Today, James Bay performed a 45 minute set on YouTube in support of #SaveOurVenues. During the performance Bay performed some fan favorite songs, three new songs (including his new single “Chew On My Heart”), and even a surprise Whitney Houston cover of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”!

The performance included a donation link in support #SaveOurVenues – the UK crowd fundraiser started to protect UK grassroots music venues at risk for permanent closure due to COVID-19.The donation link will be live until July 20th.

Born in Hitchin and having extensively toured venues on the UK music scene whilst building his career, this is a cause which is extremely close to James’ heart. On his motivation to support the cause, James says: “Big or small, spending time honing your craft and performing in venues is vital on the journey to becoming a successful touring and recording artist. We must never live in a world where live music venues don’t exist. They are as important for the artist as they are for the countless visitors and of course the dedicated staff that devote themselves to running those rooms like clockwork. Venues offer a joy, an escape and a magic you just don’t experience through a screen or even through a stereo speaker. At all costs, we must save our venues.

CITY MORGUE ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF THEIR NEW MIXTAPE TOXIC BOOGALOO ON JULY 31 RELEASES NEW TRACK “HURTWORLD ’99”

City Morgue announces the release of their new mixtape TOXIC BOOGALOO on July 31 via Hikari Ultra/Republic Records. To coincide with this announcement, City Morgue releases their new song “HURTWORLD ’99” today.

Listen to “HURTWORLD ’99”: HERE

On the track that will appear on their upcoming mixtape, New York’s most dangerous duo further incinerate the lines between rap and rock on this banger. Over a roar of distortion, ZillaKami raps with militant precision before SosMula comes through with his own brand of menacing mayhem.

The last time we heard from City Morgue, they crushed two Rock Albums Charts. Their second full-length offering, CITY MORGUE VOL. 2: AS GOOD AS DEAD, captured #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart and #1 on the Apple Music Rock Albums Chart. The project and its recently released Deluxe Edition featured the legendary Mike Dean as executive producer. As always, they infected rock and rap from the inside out and generated upwards of 100 million streams and 100 million views.

Rising up from the darkest corners of New York twosome of SosMula and ZillaKami depicted the despair, drugs, violence, and sex defining a city in flames on 2018’s CITY MORGUE VOL 1: HELL OR HIGH WATER. For proof, how many groups could land on “10 Best New Rap Songs Right Now” by The Fader (“Lamborghini Getaway”) as well as Revolver’s “75 Best Songs of 2018” (“Sk8 Head”)? Not to mention, Revolver christened the project among the “30 Best Albums of 2018.” Plus iconic GRAMMY® Award-winning Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor professed his fandom on Instagram. Moving one clothing collection after another at light speed, the pair teamed up with famed illustrator Mark Riddick and creative director Joe Perez for merch that sold out in 24 hours. On CITY MORGUE VOL. 2: AS GOOD AS DEAD, SosMula and Zillakami spin gothic hood tales, harking back to timeless East Coast hip-hop—yet sharpened by their signature dark metallic edge. New York’s most notorious duo flex their storytelling like never before and hint at a deeper, darker and deadlier narrative.

SayGrace – “Girl”

SAYGRACE Releases New Track and Video “Girl”

Listen/Watch HERE

“My entire life I’ve essentially been told to express my femininity, sexuality and female form in a way that pleases other people and I’m honestly just really tired of it. I will not perpetuate the objectification women face by constantly taking on opinions from other people that frankly, we didn’t ask for. I get dressed, do my hair, talk the way I wanna talk, think the way I do and feel the way I feel for me, no one else.” – SAYGRACE

Today, SAYGRACE releases “Girl,” a brand new single with an accompanying video. Watch it/listen HERE. “Girl” showcases Saygrace’s badass-yet-playful songwriting skills and her stunning, soulful voice. The track continues in the same mindset of her critically-acclaimed debut EP The Defining Moments of SAYGRACE: Girlhood, Fuckboys & Situationships released earlier this year to rave reviews from NPR, Fader, Idolator, Billboard, Consequence of Sound, and more.

The video for “Girl” was shot in Los Angeles by Becky Hearn who also directed Saygrace’s video for “Boys Ain’t Shit” Featuring Tate McRae and Audrey Mika. On her debut EP, Brisbane, Australia born singer/songwriter SAYGRACE made the conscious decision to put the version of herself she wants to be into the world. She created songs that tells girls they don’t have to have it all figured out or succumb to pressure to be something they’re not. That it’s okay to just be yourself. And that it’s okay if you don’t know who that is yet.
