DUBLIN’S MERRION HOTEL

DUBLIN’S MERRION HOTEL CELEBRATES ITS
21ST AND 252ND BIRTHDAYS

Two hundred and fifty years ago Dublin was a city of fashion and wealth, political unrest and poverty. And it was 21 years ago that four adjoining mansions that were built 252 years ago in 1766 – a decade before the independence of the United States – were fashioned into Dublin’s most prestigious hotel. “The story of The Merrion is the story of Ireland,” says General Manager Peter MacCann, “and to celebrate the 21st birthday of the hotel, we’ve commissioned a new publication designed to recall its unique heritage – The History of The Merrion Hotel.”

From musical soirées to political intrigue, love and betrayal, dueling and dinner parties, the buildings of The Merrion Hotel have been at the heart of Ireland’s history for a quarter millennium. Today, guests at The Merrion enter through the magnificent foyer of Number 24 Upper Merrion Street. Many arrive for important meetings that could change a person’s life or even a country’s destiny with Leinster House, the seat of the Irish Government, located across the street. But others arrive just to luxuriate in the meticulously maintained splendor of Dublin’s most distinguished hotel.

Sir Arthur Wellesley, illustrated by Anna and Elena Balbusso

Richly illustrated, with original drawings by award-winning artists Anna and Elena Balbusso, The History of The Merrion Hotel tells of the wide variety of captivating characters that have occupied the four mansions’ wonderful rooms. Perhaps the most famous is Arthur Wellesley, born here in 1769 and who went on to become Britain’s first Duke of Wellington. It was he who beat Napoleon in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo and later twice became Queen Victoria’s Prime Minister.

Then there is Lord Mornington who impoverished himself through his love of music, to the wonderfully named Valentine Lawless who took the Fenian Oath – one of the first political expressions of Ireland’s wish to be independent of England – within the Merrion’s walls. These stories are as engaging as they are historically revealing.

Alongside its rich history, splendid facilities and service, The Merrion Hotel is famed for holding the country’s largest private collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century Irish art outside the National Gallery. The lavish portrait illustrations, recently shortlisted for The World Illustration Awards, 2018, also contain architectural detailing that can be seen in the hotel today. The History of The Merrion Hotel brings all the color and personalities of the period into focus, and will be presented to all hotel guests during the 21st birthday year. Additional copies are available for 10 Euros at the front desk or by emailing concierge@merrionhotel.com.

JAGUAR I-PACE eTROPHY

Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY Completes Final Pre-Season Test

Up to 20 I-PACE eTROPHY racecars will take to the grid at the first race on 15 December in Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia

Pre-season testing for the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY championship took place this week at Rockingham, Europe’s fastest racing circuit. Previously announced entrants Katherine Legge, Bryan Sellers, Cacá Bueno, Sérgio Jimenez and Simon Evans were joined by confirmed multi-car entrants from Saudi Arabia, China and Germany, who are due to announce their team and driver details in November.

British model and racing enthusiast David Gandy also attended the test and drove the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY racecar. Each round will feature a VIP car driven by famous faces from the world of motorsport and beyond.

David Gandy said:

“This is a hugely impressive car. I was initially sceptical about electric cars, but now after driving the I-PACE and the I-PACE eTROPHY I’m a convert. The racecar is so powerful but it’s a friendly car to drive – it’s a lot of fun and holding your speed around the corners is a test of nerve. I’m already a Formula E fan but adding the element of production car racing will add something special. I’ll definitely be watching.”

Gandy, who first attended a Formula E Race in Hong Kong in 2016 has also previously raced for Jaguar in the Mille Miglia in an XK120.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series will be the official support race to ABB FIA Formula E from December onwards. The new championship will take place over 10 rounds in nine global cities, with up to 20 entrants competing for a prize fund in excess of £500,000.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY begins on 15 December in Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Final entrants and details of where to watch the championship around the world will be announced shortly.

Picture This Release “One Drink” Music Video

Today, critically acclaimed Irish international phenomenon Picture This release the official music video for their new single “One Drink.” Watch HERE. Listen HERE via Republic Records.

The song heralds the arrival of the band’s anxiously awaited second full-length album, MDRN LV, releasing in stores and at all digital retailers on February 15, 2019. Produced by Jayson Dezuzio [Imagine Dragons, X Ambassadors], the record represents a creative high watermark for the quartet as they expand their signature style and venture into uncharted sonic territory.

The biggest selling Irish act in both 2017 and 2018, and the nation’s hottest musical export in decades, Picture This arrived as a phenomenon with their self-titled 2017 full-length debut, Picture This. Certified triple-platinum in Ireland, it held the #1 spot Overall in the country for four weeks, while topping the Streaming Chart for seven weeks. Moreover, it remained in the Top 5 since release. Two years since their formation, they’ve impressively sold over 300K tickets, concluding 2017 with a sold-out UK and Ireland tour highlighted by gigs at O2 Shepherd’s Bush London, SSE Arena Belfast, and a two-night stand at 3Arena in Dublin. This summer marked their first stadium tour in Ireland, which capped off with a 35,000-person stadium show selling out over 3 months prior. During late 2018, they teamed up with super producer Jayson Dezuzio to record the 2019 follow-up, MDRN LV.

Kash Doll Releases “Ice Me Out” Video

Today, Detroit rapper and rising hip-hop MC Kash Doll shares the visuals for her single “Ice Me Out”.

Watch it HERE.

The video showcases Kash Doll’s versatility, whether she’s toying with life size hand carved male ice sculptures or wearing the limited-edition jewel adorned Versace boots – she knows exactly how to get your attention. She wrote “Ice Me Out” for women who can do the same!

“This is a song to remind guys that there are still independent women who can provide and spoil themselves,” she explains. “They can afford to buy their own things, but they still want to be treated special, courted and taken on dates, go out and experience new things together, exchange nice gifts… it’s more to getting to know someone than Netflix and chill.”

Earlier this year, Kash Doll released a project solely for her fans titled “Brat Mail” to thank them for all their continued support. The project garnered over 13 million global streams and features the break out single “Check”.  Shortly before “Brat Mail,” Kash released one of her biggest singles to date, “For Everybody” which racked up 10 million YouTube/VEVO views independently.

Coming from Motor City, Kash Doll first bubbled up in 2014 with a remix of Tinashe’s “Too On” which received airplay on local radio stations. Shortly after, her single “Run Me My Money” went viral and paved the way for the release of her mixtape Keisha vs. Kash Doll which exceeded over 600,000 downloads in the first two days. A child of hip-hop, she immediately became a regional favorite, generating millions of streams and packing shows. She started exploding with “For Everybody” in 2017 and was awarded the BMI Social Star award. In 2018 she made headlines by winning the “Issa Wave” Award at the 2018 BET Social Awards. Watch her acceptance speech and a fiery performance of “For Everybody.” She’s definitely proven herself as an artist to watch.

LEXUS UX

By Alexandria Baiz × Vaughn Lowery

As of late, 360 Magazine had the opportunity to join Lexus in Seattle for an intimate ride and drive of their wholly-new UX SUV at the newly reimagined luxurious Loews Hotel 1000. This seaport city is home to both tech giants Microsoft and Amazon. With Lexus’s innovative track record for having unparalleled technology within their cabin, it was befitting that they brought us to the home of the Space Needle. Subsequently, this town is known to think outside of the box.

The 2019 Lexus UX takes a step into the future of modern luxury with its two most affordable and compact SUVs – the UX 200 and UX 250h. UX stands for urban crossover (x-over). The UX 200 will be released in December 2018 starting at $32,000 and the UX 250h will be released in January 2019 for around $34,000. Gearing towards an opulent compact car with an exterior design so specific, the UX has a signature three-dimensional shape that makes it different from its siblings.

The front has brow-shaped LED lights with optional ultra-small 3-projector LED units. Across the back of the boot, are an innovative wrap of three-dimensional LED lights which help with stability on the highways – a standout design element on the UX. The structure is built to mold into an everyday vehicle that is stable, perfect for urban use because it’s small and easy to park. We had no problem squeezing to the front of the Bainbridge ferry.

The 18″ 5-spoke aluminum alloy dark gray metallic wheels are proportional to the overall aesthetics of the vehicle. Available in a variety of twelve exterior colors, two of which are exclusive to the UX F Sport – Cadmium Orange and Nori Green. The Cadmium Orange includes a cherry base with yellow lowlights, making it appear vivid and adding tons of depth. Nori Green possesses bright highlights and dark contrast alongside of calm shades, drawing the color brilliant. Both of these colors are newfangled and daring for the Lexus brand.

The F Sport package is available in both the UX 200 and UX 250h model as well as has enhanced features and style which contributes to its name. This option comes in the two colors – Ultra White and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0. The F Sport performance is exceptional, transforming the UX into a bespoke-like designer car with front sports seats, grille design, and jet-black trim.

The concept of UX stems from the versatility and adaptability this vehicle offers. With a seamless interior coupled with the Japanese concept of engawa offers a richer field of vision. Executed with a high-strength structure, placement of sound absorbing and insulating materials throughout, one can enjoy an extremely quiet ride.

The connection between driver and the vehicle is apparent with the “seat-in-control” concept. Entering and exiting is made easy with hip-point bottom cushions. 8-way power driver seats (including lunbar) allows the driver to operate with a comfortable yet natural posture.

All UX models are fabricated to ensure safety while driving. The Pre-Collision System alerts drivers of pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles with a forward-facing camera and radar system. The LSS+ 2.0 system enhances this with specific light detection for different hours of the day. If the Pre-Collision System detects a high possibility of collision, an audio and visual alert will prompt the driver to take action. If the driver does not break at that point, the system may automatically apply brakes to help mitigate impacts. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control maintains a preset distance and operates between 0 to 110 mph. The Lane Departure Alert is extremely helpful with the Multi-Information Display (MID) the system can use forward-facing cameras to detect colored land marking illustrations. If the driver deviates from a visibly marked lane, the system alerts the driver with an audio and visual alert. In addition, the UX has an Electric Power Steering and Steering Assist. The Road Sign Assist can read a variety of traffic signs and will display them on the vehicle’s MID. Furthermore, Parking Support Brake uses braking control and visual warnings to reduce possible contact with moving objects while parking.

This Lexus is extraordinary with its high definition, intuitive technology, and overall performance. The UX includes a standard 7″ TFT (thin-film-transistor) LCD control panel while the UX F Sport features an 8″ TFT LCD panel design with a movable meter ring. By pressing a switch on the steering wheel, it moves to the right, enlarging the multi-information display. With the Lexus Remote Touch Interface, the 2019 UX feels as familiar as a smartphone. The most impressive tech feature is Amazon’s “Alexa” – which immediately connects you to play music; find directions; open your garage door on a rainy day; lock/unlock from a smart device and amongst other things control the lights in your home. The Lincoln Navigator is the only other vehicle in Northern America which offers Alexa. Moreover, additional driver connectivity features include Apple CarPlay, 4GB Wi-Fi Hotspot, Voice recognition for commands and the SiriusXM. The heads-up display allows drivers to focus more on the road and less on the infotainment unit.

The UX complies with the global trend of efficient gas mileage vehicles – UX 200 at 33 mpg (2.0- liter inline four-cylinder engine, similar to competitors but with less under-hood heat and lower weight for better vehicle balance). The UX 250h at 39 mpg, making it the wave of their next generation of hybrids. With 181 hp, the UX 250h is the fuel-efficient leader with the best-combined mpg of any CUV and/or SUV without a plugin NA.

In short, the Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h is a shoo-in for a ‘xennial’ buyer – a person who grew up in an analog environment and can easily adapt to present-day’s digital society. Just think of all of your friends and family members with a recent graduate degree or higher residing in a metropolis. Most likely they have a high appreciation for the arts and take local trips within their surrounding area with one or more cronies and a small lap dog in tow.

Chris Ruben Band

With a sound that combines everything from psychedelic rock to funk streamlined into a raucous yet melodically appealing full package, the Farmingville-based Chris Ruben Band is ready to deliver more music to the masses. With their debut EP “Fortune Favors the Bold” having come out in March, the band has been hard at work on their follow up, and just released their new single “Stomach Coil” as they rock The Lounge @ The Space at Westbury in New York.

After 5 plus years of working solo, songwriter and musician Chris Ruben founded the first of many groups in late 2014. With many twists and turns befalling him, the band has seen many faces come and go. Now they are family. Recently re-charged with Chris Ruben (Vocals/Guitar), Brendan Allan (Bass/Vocals), Russ Benjamin (Drums/Percussion), Eugene Iovine (Keyboards/Synth), and Frank Iovine (Saxophone/Keyboards) – they’ve rocked shows from Narrowsburg NY’s Froggy Daze Music Festival to SXSW in Austin Texas, Alive After Five in Patchogue NY, NYC’s Bitter End and Bowery Electric just to name a few.

With this unity, love for music and friendship with one another, they are unbreakable and ready to rock the world.

The gritty new tune is a true testament to the band’s funky yet hard-hitting mix which Ruben has coined as “a multi-instrumental psychedelic vision of the future of sound and light”. Reminiscent of artists/groups like The Vines, Cage the Elephant, Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and more- it combines earth shattering guitar licks, prominent walking bass lines, pounding drums and Ruben’s own melody-driven and often belting vocals for what fans will surely call one of their new favorites.

With the release of their latest single “Stomach Coil” on the way along with a live performance at The Lounge @ The Space at Westbury fans have plenty of reasons to check out The Chris Ruben Band!

Disney x Gigi Burris

In celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, New York milliner Gigi Burris launches a capsule collection interpreting through headwear an American icon, Mickey. Burris debuts today a nine-piece collection of felt hats and hair accessories that celebrate Mickey’s timeless style and color palette.

Raised in Central Florida with Walt Disney World essentially in her backyard, Burris was transfixed by Mickey Mouse from a young age—his unmistakable ears shaping more than just an unforgettable character, but also the dreams of a young, creative spirit. As a renowned milliner, Burris possesses a rare talent for taking the old and making it new, using centuries-old techniques to handcraft one-of-a-kind pieces that are all locally made in New York City.

The first place that Burris draws inspiration from are the two simple black circles on top of Mickey’s head that have become as recognizable as the mouse himself. Burris plays off this silhouette in her Icon Cap, which comes in red, yellow and black. Now three dimensional, this innovative piece is a wearable sculpture. The Icon, is a limited edition drop with 30 hand-numbered pieces per color. “I wanted to create a forward-thinking take on the ears that looks as welcome at Walt Disney World as it would on the streets of New York,” Burris explains.

For a more classic silhouette, Burris creates a black and red fedora, drawing inspiration from the period of Mickey Mouse’s inception in 1928. For this piece, the ears appear as subtle, black circles that add interest to the crown of the hat. Mickey’s black and white beginnings are referenced in an elegant veiled headband that features hand-applied sequins and Swarovski crystals on ears formed from hand-tacked French veiling.

To emphasize Mickey’s natural charm, Burris individually places a pattern of Swarovski gunmetal pearls and red crystals onto a luxe, gunmetal headband in the shape of his ear silhouette. Another accessory pays homage to Mickey’s iconic design and recognizable ears. Here, it is plated in 14 karat gold—a simple and chic way to portray Mickey’s hairline. “As a hat maker, I was drawn to what shapes Mickey’s face—the dramatic widow’s peak that punctuates his every expression.”

While Mickey’s ears are his trademark, the mouse has never shied away from headwear. He has always selected just the right topper to complement his most memorable looks. Burris is particularly inspired by the captain’s hat Mickey wears in his debut film, Disney’s Steamboat Willie, as well as the square brimmed hat Mickey puts on as a conductor in Disney’s The Band Concert.

These references are alluded to in the form of a lambskin leather Greek Fisherman’s hat, featuring Mickey’s signature white buttons and a subtle nod to his hairline stitched in white thread on the top of the cap. A cheery, red, square-brimmed hat is a modern update to a classic baseball cap, complete with three Disney x Gigi Burris pins—Mickey tipping his boater hat, the classic icon of Mickey’s ears, and an “M” for Mickey. This moment harkens back to the days when Burris, like many others, would leave Walt Disney World with a plethora of Mickey Mouse souvenirs and memories of another special day spent with the beloved mouse.

Each piece in this collection embodies what Burris and people everywhere love about Mickey Mouse— his playful mischief, his joy, his style and, of course, his ability to make you smile.

Earlier this year Disney announced the launch of “Mickey the True Original”– a global campaign in celebration of Mickey’s heritage spanning over the last 90 years. Since his inception in 1928, Mickey Mouse has become a global pop culture icon, transcending languages and cultures – embodying a ‘true original’ spirit; Mickey Mouse was the first licensed character franchise and appeared in the first-ever synchronized sound cartoon, Disney’s Steamboat Willie.

Recognized the world over, Mickey continues to inspire artists, musicians and fashion designers from around the globe. The True Original campaign will bring together other original brands that are recognized as pioneers in their field, and Gigi Burris epitomizes this.
