Life on Jupiter

By: Skyler Johnson

A scientific study originally aimed at testing the capability of life on Venus has now shown that there is a chance for life not on our sister planet, but on the gaseous giant, Jupiter.

The study aimed to figure out whether Venus could maintain life based on water activity, which is measured on a 0 to 1 scale, with 1 being pure water and 0 being the complete absence of it. The minimum viable water activity for life on Earth was determined to be 0.585, with Venus being 0.007, but Jupiter just reaching the threshold at 0.585.

Jupiter is also the perfect temperature to maintain life, being -40 degrees F, which is just survivable. Life can only survive at that temperature and above.

While these statistics may be exciting, you’re not exactly going to be seeing E.T. coming from Jupiter. After all, it’s a gaseous planet. Life, if any at all, would be existing within Jupiter’s clouds, and would only be made up of a single cell. The planet has a lot of Ultraviolet Radiation and very little nutrients, so sustaining life may not even be possible. Nevertheless, life is possible for the gaseous giant.

The scientific possibilities of this finding, while it may seem relatively minor given we don’t actually know if there’s life outside of planet Earth, it does offer some interesting possibilities. After all, we have no idea what these creatures may look like and what biological adaptations they may have in order to adapt to living in the dangerous conditions Jupiter provides. What we could end up finding might lead us to find ways to adapt as a species.

Interestingly, if Jupiter ends up being inhabitable, there’s also a chance that one of Jupiter’s moons, Europa, houses life beneath it’s under-ice ocean, which would be similar to Earth’s Deep Ocean hydrothermal vents, which are basically a volcano erupting underwater and spouting out life-providing sediments. While we have no idea what’s under Europa’s surface there have been some calls for a probe so we may soon get some answers.

Nevertheless, only time will tell what may be found on other planets. But with more information like with the study released today, who knows what the future may bring.

An Interview with Goon Des Garcons

By: Skyler Johnson

Goon Des Garcons is a Little Rock, Arkansas rapper known for his deeply original genre-bending style. He mixes several different genres, including hip hop and emo rock. He grew up in church, played the saxophone and began writing music in middle school. At 18, he left Arkansas and since then has lived in Baltimore, New York, New Zealand and now L.A. In his music, Goon gravitates toward spacey, deconstructed, melodic beats. Working closely with his longtime collaborator and fellow Arkansas native, Idle Kid, he explores a range that finds him riding beats with punctuated flow, clamoring through vocal distortion, and crooning against sparse, emo rock production.

Which artists inspires you the most?

Ye, P, Cud, FKA TWIGS. I try to make music that can span genres like all of them. They can make sense of anything and everything musically, and still all very much feel like their own style and vibe.

What led you to include the heavy industrial stylings your music is known for having?

Really Idle and Yeezus. I was always on the punk high energy vibe. Then I met Idle doing these super industrial beats that sounded like they were from the future and immediately knew this was the sound I was always running towards. Minimal and futuristic.

How would you best describe your music?

Hmm.. I dunno, that changes everyday really. I’ve honestly never had a proper answer for that but ima just say post-modern. That’s my shit right now haha.

What in real life inspires you the most?

Movies, Clothes, Art… shit, “outside” at this point. Last year was crazy what the f***.

Which artist would you like to collaborate with the most?

Ye, Pharrell, Cud, Twigs. My idols of course! I feel like we could make something crazy, but also just to learn from the greatest would be amazing.

One of your most recent singles is titled A24. Are you a major film buff?

Major haha. I went to vegas while LA was still on lockdown just to go to the movies.

Do you have any details about upcoming projects you’re able to share with us?

SHEESH!, should be out by the time this posts right? All the details anyone needs to know right now is all there 🙂

What’s it like releasing an album with a label as iconic as Def Jam?

Intense lol I love it. being in the same breath as so many of those legends is crazy for me. I’m just trying to get on that level. Inspiring.

Ski Mask the Slump God – Sin City the Mixtape

Returning with extreme intensity, critically acclaimed multi-platinum Florida spitter Ski Mask The Slump God is back with a brand new project entitled Sin City The Mixtape via Victor Victor Worldwide/Republic Records.

It notably marks his first body of work since 2018’s chart-topping gold-certified Stokeley. Living up to its namesake, he rips through these nine tracks with all the frenetic energy, ominous unpredictability, and epic scope of the Robert Rodriguez adaptation of Frank Miller’s classic graphic novel Sin City. Once again, his verbal acrobatics steal the show as he perverts pop culture references into pummeling rhymes on the likes of the single “Admit It” where Reptilian and Alice In Wonderland breathe the same contaminated air. “Intro” pairs a cracking, yet intimate vocal over the hum of a defibrillator, while clean guitar bleeds into an X-Men-worthy barrage on “Mental Magneto” and the acoustic “Lost In Time” spins depression into melodic bliss.

Check out the full tracklisting below.

Last year, Ski Mask The Slump God dropped the protest-anthem “Burn The Hoods.” The politically charged banger amassed north of 70 million streams thus far. Picking up critical acclaim, NPR claimed it “captured the defiant, cathartic energy of a crowd of people tearing down a statue of a Confederate general.”

Allow Ski Mask The Slump God to welcome you to Sin City The Mixtape now.

Stay tuned for much more soon!

About Ski Mask The Slump God

Since emerging from the darkest corners of South Florida back in 2015, Ski Mask The Slump God has consistently pushed the limits of hip-hop with his lyrical dexterity, rhythmic unpredictability, and elite wordplay. He asserts himself as a rare rap force who defies categories and eras with unapologetic attitude and boss-level skill. Following a string of buzzing mixtapes, he seized #6 on the Billboard Top 200 with his 2018 full-length debut, Stokeley [Victor Victor Worldwide/Republic Records], which received acclaim from Pitchfork, XXL, and NME. Along the way, he also logged five platinum singles—“Catch Me Outside,” “Take A Step Back,” “Nuketown,” “Babywipe,” and “Foot Fungus”—in addition to the double-platinum banger “Faucet Failure.” Simultaneously, he dropped multiple joint tracks with the late XXXTentacion and collaborated with the likes of Lil Yachty, Higher Brothers, Denzel Curry, J. Cole’s DreamVille, and many more. Meanwhile, he made a statement in 2020 with the incendiary banger “Burn The Hoods,” which garnered praise from Complex and more. After gathering 3 billion-plus streams, Ski Mask The Slump God adds another dimension to his dynamic, dark, and deep world with the 2021 Sin City The Mixtape.

Young Franco × SonReal × Jalmar – Come Thru

Following one of the biggest Australian songs of last year, Young Franco is back with yet another banger, “Come Thru” featuring SonReal and Jalmar. A brilliant follow up to his late 2020 release “Fallin Apart” featuring Denzel Curry & Pell, the Sydney based producer raises the bar yet again with “Come Thru,” a single filled to the brim with confidence and production class. Listen HERE

As a track, “Come Thru” deals in the provision of positive energy and trusting your inner confidence. Combining a glitchy synth line with laid back drums and a sexy slick bass line creates a melting pot of formidable two step and raucous energy. Joining the near perfect musical bed is SonReal and Jalmar. They provide a piece of unflustered bravado, with the two versatile vocal deliveries trading verses, bars and energy rapidly over the Margherita ready production.

Franco stated, “’Come Thru’ started as an instrumental with just bass and a groove. I had a session with Sonreal in February 2020 and we just clicked. What was really special was that it was one of the last times I was in the USA. We were also shooting the Juice official video and had a lot of lovely people ‘come thru’ to where I was staying in Highland Park. I think that helped inspire the song and take it in a certain direction. I was looking for a second verse and was introduced to Jalmar. When I heard his verse, I immediately knew the song was completed.”

Young Franco‘s project is currently sitting perched above the clouds, with career highlights being ticked off with every subsequent release. His most recent single, “Fallin Apart” featuring Denzel Curry and Pell took the already glowing artist to angelic levels. The single received a full add on Triple J, as well as radio spins globally, and featured on publications such as Clah Magazine, NME, Out Now Magazine, Colors, Sniffers, Happy Mag, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats and more. The track also featured as the soundtrack for Apple’s Airpod “Jump” campaign which has garnered over 10 million views on YouTube and premiered during the Grammys broadcast.

The Arkup

By: Skyler Johnson

When looking at the house on 400 Alton Road in South Beach, Miami, you might not see anything too spectacular given the surrounding area. Sure, it doesn’t fit perfectly into the surrounding architectural styles but it’s still a nice postmodern villa on the water. What makes this house different is that it doesn’t just stay docked at 400 Alton Road but instead is able to move around the water. Yes, this house is not only a house but also a boat, known colloquially as a “floating villa.”

The Arkup has 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, with plenty of space for everything from crew quarters to an outdoor shower. The ship even contains room to dock another boat. Because of Miami’s infamous hurricanes, the boats come with the ability to be raised 18 feet above the water.

The biggest draw is that it’s fully self-sustainable, and has 36 kW of solar capacity and 182 kW in the battery, with the average home only needing 14-20 kW. This is definitely the house of the future, especially when you consider rising sea levels.

The house, while being unique, is also beautiful, and comes fully furnished with luxurious postmodern stylings and contains a seamless interior/exterior design with plenty of window space to allow for natural lighting, all powered by the solar panels and the ship’s battery.

They’re also developing more houses that are just like The Arkup, which are some of the few where you can decide where you want your ship to go, so long as it’s an accessible port. Of course, these houses don’t come cheap. They cost 5.5 million dollars as of now, but the company does intend on building more affordable ships as time continues. So if you don’t happen to have the 5.5 million dollars necessary to buy an Arkup right now, you may soon be able to.

The digital release of Binder’s “A Lot Like Home,” available on iTunes, Amazon and all digital retailers, was written by Binder, Harris, Isabeau Miller and Shaun Balin, and was inspired by “exciting firsts” in their lives–moving to a new location, expecting a first child and embarking on new horizons. The song’s chorus lyrics are: “Something sweet that we can call our own, yeah we made it down the winding road, and it feels a lot like home.”

Binder states, “I absolutely loved shooting this video with director Doltyn Snedden! He always sees my vision so clearly and brings it to life!  Benji and I have worked together for six years and having him write this and sing it with me felt like having family on set. Benji’s voice is so beautiful, it’s always a great time getting to perform with him, and his wife Andrea is the actress playing the newlywed in the video! It was truly a family-friendly video shoot!”

The Fastest Woman in the United States

By: Skyler Johnson

Sha’Carri (Shu-Carry) Richardson sported bright orange hair and long painted fingernails as she ran a record 10.86 second time leading her to win first place and become the fastest woman in America. Because of her unique style and short stature she certainly stood out amongst the competition.

The track athlete is only 21 years old but is proving to be a name you should look out for. After all, she’s set to potentially win gold in Tokyo for the 100m which an American hasn’t won since 1996.

It was an emotional day for Richardson who after winning went up to her grandmother in the stands. Only two weeks prior, her biological mother died, which she talked about during an interview after the event, where after weeks of having to put on a straight face she finally was able to break and get emotional about her mother’s passing, though despite the tremendous sadness she surely felt she was able to keep herself composed throughout the interview.

The athlete’s Instagram page proves how much of a legend he is, with the exuding confidence every Olympic athlete must have in order to win. When she was about to re-dye her hair from red, she stated: “Bye bye Red head you put it on them too tuff… what will the next color be.” Her confidence is unmatched, and her performance is as well.

Sha’Carri sported the orange hair because of a suggestion from her girlfriend, who stated it was loud, encouraging and dangerous. Despite the power it carried on the turf, it’s Sha’Carri and Sha’Carri alone that allowed her to win first place with a solid 0.12 seconds ahead of her competitors.

You’ll be likely to hear a lot about her during these upcoming Olympics, as while right now she’s the fastest woman in the U.S., she could soon become the fastest woman in the world.

Metallica – The Black Album Remastered

Metallica marks the 30th anniversary of its self-titled fifth album—a/k/a The Black Album—with two landmark releases, both out September 10th on the band’s own Blackened Recordings:

The Black Album is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed records of all time. Its 1991 release not only gave Metallica its first #1 album in no fewer than 10 countries, including a 4-week run at #1 in the U.S., its unrelenting series of singles — “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Wherever I May Roam”, and “Sad But True”—fueled the band’s rise to stadium headlining, radio and MTV dominating household name status. The album’s reception from the press was similarly charged, building over the years from the top 10 of the 1991 Village Voice Pazz & Jop national critics poll to becoming a constant presence in the likes of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The album’s impact and relevance continue to grow—as proven by one indisputable fact: The Black Album remains unchallenged as the best-selling album in the history of Nielsen Soundscan, outselling every release in every genre over the past 30 years.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, the GRAMMY-winning, 16x platinum-certified Black Album is receiving its definitive re-release.  Remastered for ultimate sound quality, The Black Album remaster will be available in multiple configurations.

Much more than a mere tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist celebrates the enduring influence of this musical milestone with one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived by the Metallica team: An unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut.

The Metallica Blacklist offers up new dimensions of the record whose gravitational pull first drew the mainstream to Metallica—and provides new insights into the universal and timeless appeal that kept it there: the boundary-smashing influence these 12 songs have had on fans and musicians of all stripes. The Metallica Blacklist’s 53 tracks find singer songwriters, country artists, electronic and hip hop artists sharing their love of these songs alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music and many, many more… and for 50+ good causes: Profits will be divided evenly between charities of the artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation.

The Metallica Blacklist is a fitting and limitless homage, one that features bands who’ve shared stages with Metallica alongside artists who are younger than the original album. It’s a truly staggering, at times mystifying assemblage of musicians, dozens of whom have little to nothing in common other than the shared passion for the music that’s united them for this album: 1 Album. 12 Songs. 53 Artists. Unlimited Possibilities.

The Metallica Blacklist will be available digitally September 10th, with physical formats to follow on October 1st including 4 CD and a limited edition 7 LP vinyl pressing. Pre-orders will instantly receive multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, philanthropist and trailblazer Miley Cyrus’ version of “Nothing Else Matters” featuring WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith, and Latin music superstar Juanes’ interpretation of “Enter Sandman.”
