Vitamin D

Magnesium is a mineral that is important to our health because it plays several roles in keeping us healthy, including helping with bone heath, heart rhythm and regulating blood pressure. The RDA for magnesium is 400-420 mg/day. Lots of foods contain magnesium, but in smaller amounts. To get a full day’s worth of the recommended amount of magnesium, you could eat 2 ounces of dry roasted almonds, one cup of boiled spinach, 1 cup of soymilk,2 ounces of dry roasted cashews AND 1 cup of black beans.

In comparison, Vitamin D is important to our health in a variety of ways. It helps calcium and phosphorus to be absorbed from the gut. This is important for bone health. Vitamin D is harder to get from food because not as many foods contain it naturally. However, many food products are fortified with Vitamin D. The RDA is 15-20 micrograms/day. You can get that from 4 oz of rainbow trout, OR 1 tablespoon of cod liver oil OR 1 cup of white mushrooms.

You need vitamin D in order for proper immune system functioning. Having a deficiency leaves you immune compromised. Studies show that adults, especially in Northern climates, are at risk for Vitamin D deficiency. This is in part because there is less sunlight in those regions. It is also important to note that Magnesium is needed to help our bodies make vitamin D from sunlight; it also helps to transport vitamin D in supplement from into the body to be used in cells.

It might be necessary to take a vitamin D supplement if you aren’t getting enough in your diet (which can be tricky since fewer foods contain it). When choosing a supplement, it is best to opt for one that contains Vitamin D 3. There are lots of options for supplements, and if you aren’t a fan of swallowing pills, you could use a gummy, like vitafusion gummies, or a sublingual, like frunutta, which contains no fillers or additives, and dissolves right under your tongue.

Covid Death Reports

New research by a team at the MIT Sloan School of Management estimates that COVID-19 cases and deaths are 12 times and 1.5 times higher than official reports, respectively.  The study examined 84 of the most affected nations, spanning 4.75 billion people.  The researchers estimate 88.5 million cases and 600 thousand deaths through June 18, 2020.

Despite substantial under-reporting, however, these nations remain well below the level needed for herd immunity.  Absent breakthroughs in treatment or vaccines, and with only mild improvements in policies to control the pandemic, the researchers estimate a total of 249 million (186-586) cases and 1.75 million (1.40-3.67) deaths by Spring 2021.

Earlier and stronger policies to reduce transmission when the pandemic was first declared, together with the deployment of extensive testing, could have averted approximately 197,000 deaths, nearly one third of the estimated total.

However, they say, future cases and deaths are now less dependent on testing and more contingent on the willingness of communities and governments to reduce transmission, such as by reducing contacts with others, physical distancing, and better hygiene, including masks.

The nations with the highest estimated percentage of their populations infected to date include Ecuador (18%), Peru (16.6%), Chile (15.5%), Mexico (8.8%), Iran (7.9%), Qatar (7.3%), Spain (7.1%), USA (5.3%), UK (5.2%), and the Netherlands (4.8%).

The paper, Estimating the Global Spread of COVID-19, is co-authored by MIT Sloan’s Hazhir Rahmandad, Associate Professor of System Dynamics; Professor John Sterman, Director of the MIT Systems Dynamics Group; and Ph.D. candidate Tse Yang Lim.

Using data for all 84 countries with reliable testing data (spanning 4.75 billion people), they developed a dynamic epidemiological model integrating data on cases, deaths, excess mortality and other factors to estimate how asymptomatic cases, disease acuity, hospitalization, and behavioral and policy responses to risk affect COVID transmission and the Infection Fatality Rate (IFR)—the probability of death after becoming infected—across nations and over time. IFR depends not only on the age and health of the population, but on the adequacy of health care and the effectiveness of protections for the most vulnerable, including the elderly.  The researchers estimate IFR to be 0.68% on average (0.64%-0.7%), but find it varies substantially across nations: approximately 0.56% for Iceland, 0.64% New Zealand, 0.99% for the USA, 1.59% for the UK, and 2.08% for Italy.

Lute – Gold Mouf Chronicles

Following the special episode of Gold Mouf Chronicles dealing with his anxiety, Lute (Dreamville/Interscope Records) gives his best attempts at some alternative solutions to calm himself. He enters Dojo Body Mind in Charlotte, NC which is led by Brandon Powell to learn some meditation and breathing techniques that centers himself, especially under high pressure scenarios. Using what Powell refers to as forms of internal self-defense, Lute practices controlling his breathing carefully to a drum before easing himself into an ice bath. While intimidated at first, he overcomes the initial mental and physical shock and manages to stay in it for almost half a minute. Hopefully it leads to a better control over his anxiety in the near future. Watch the episode HERE.

The series features Lute’s latest single “GED (Gettin Every Dolla)” as its opening theme. The single, which debuted in early 2020 following a cryptic social media campaign, has become a fan favorite. The Neal Farmer-directed video, has now amassed over 1.8 MM views on YouTube. Following its release, Lute stunned fans with a halftime performance during the Hornets vs. Rockets showdown at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Research Finds Exercise Prevents Vision Loss

Exercise can slow or prevent the development of macular degeneration and may benefit other common causes of vision loss, such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, new research suggests.

A study from the University of Virginia School of Medicine found that exercise reduced the harmful overgrowth of blood vessels in the eyes of lab mice by up to 45%. This tangle of blood vessels is a key contributor to macular degeneration and several other eye diseases.

The study represents the first experimental evidence showing that exercise can reduce the severity of macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss, the scientists report. Ten million Americans are estimated to have the condition.

“There has long been a question about whether maintaining a healthy lifestyle can delay or prevent the development of macular degeneration. The way that question has historically been answered has been by taking surveys of people, asking them what they are eating and how much exercise they are performing,” said researcher Bradley Gelfand, PhD, of UVA’s Center for Advanced Vision Science. “That is basically the most sophisticated study that has been done. The problem with that is that people are notoriously bad self-reporters … and that can lead to conclusions that may or not be true. This [study] offers hard evidence from the lab for very first time.”

The Benefits of Exercise

Enticingly, the research found that the bar for receiving the benefits from exercise was relatively low – more exercise didn’t mean more benefit. “Mice are kind of like people in that they will do a spectrum of exercise. As long as they had a wheel and ran on it, there was a benefit,” Gelfand said. “The benefit that they obtained is saturated at low levels of exercise.”

An initial test comparing mice that voluntarily exercised versus those that did not found that exercise reduced the blood vessel overgrowth by 45%. A second test, to confirm the findings, found a reduction of 32%.

The scientists aren’t certain exactly how exercise is preventing the blood vessel overgrowth. There could be a variety of factors at play, they say, including increased blood flow to the eyes.

Gelfand, of UVA’s Department of Ophthalmology and Department of Biomedical Engineering, noted that the onset of vision loss is often associated with a decrease in exercise. “It is fairly well known that as people’s eyes and vision deteriorate, their tendency to engage in physical activity also goes down,” he said. “It can be a challenging thing to study in older people. … How much of that is one causing the other?”

The researchers already have submitted grant proposals in hopes of obtaining funding to pursue their findings further.

“The next step is to look at how and why this happens, and to see if we can develop a pill or method that will give you the benefits of exercise without having to exercise,” Gelfand said. “We’re talking about a fairly elderly population [of people with macular degeneration], many of whom may not be capable of conducting the type of exercise regimen that may be required to see some kind of benefit.” (He urged people to consult their doctors before beginning any
aggressive exercise program.)

Gelfand, a self-described couch potato, disclosed a secret motivation for the research: “One reason I wanted to do this study was sort of selfish. I was hoping to find some reason not to exercise,” he joked. “It turned out exercise really is good for you.”

Findings Published

The researchers have published their findings in the scientific journal IOVS. The research team consisted of Ryan D. Makin, Dionne Argyle, Shuichiro Hirahara, Yosuke Nagasaka, Mei Zhang, Zhen Yan, Nagaraj Kerur, Jayakrishna Ambati and Gelfand, who holds appointments in both UVA’s School of Medicine and School of Engineering. Ambati is a founder of iVeena Holdings, iVeena Delivery Systems and Inflammasome Therapeutics and has provided consulting services to Allergan, Immunovant, Olix Pharmaceuticals, Retinal Solutions and Saksin LifeSciences unrelated to the findings. Ambati, Gelfand and Kerur are named as inventors on macular degeneration patent applications filed by UVA and the University of Kentucky.

The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health, grants R01EY028027, DP1GM114862, R01EY022238, R01EY024068, R01EY028027, K99EY024336, R00EY024336, R01AI14874, R21EY030651, T32 HL007284, 5T32 GM008715 and R01GM114840; the American Heart Association, grant 13SDG16770008; the John Templeton Foundation, grant 60763; and the Beckman Initiative for Macular Research.

Hunting for a job is a daunting task. It takes a lot of making through those thousands of resumes for one opening. From updating resumes to getting an interview call, each and everything about job hunting is exhausting. However, there are ways that will ease down your struggle and help you get hold of your dream job in no time.

Wondering what it is? It’s earning the latest and the most useful badge. Yes, having a mere mention of your certification will reduce your job hunting struggle by many folds. The kind of affinity hiring managers and HR have towards certifications is no longer a secret. And this fact holds more gravity in the IT industry.

Having a relevant badge lets the world believe that the candidate is more than ordinary. If you’re an IT beginner and looking for a major breakthrough to begin your career, then consider earning the Exam-Labs badge. If you do so, job hunting won’t be a struggle anymore. Read on to find the nuts and bolts of this subject matter.

CompTIA A+ Is Best Way to Ease Down Job Hunt Search
Every employer looks at certain qualities and traits in the future employee. Also, the company wants to reap the maximum return on their investment. So, keep looking for such candidates who can be beneficial at every front. And if you want to get a job, you have to meet all these expectations. Here is how earning the A+ badge helps you in this.

● You will grab the attention in no time: We have already told you that hiring managers have a great affinity for badges. They hunt for candidates who have more than just a regular degree. When you have the CompTIA A+ badge by your side, you don’t search for your future employer. Your future employer searches for you. All you need to do is just pass two tests. This CompTIA Certification credential is no less than a blessing for a beginner. There is no official prerequisite to pursuing it so any entry-level IT specialist who has some 9-month experience in the IT industry as recommended by the vendor can achieve the A+ badge.

You don’t have to struggle to let the world know your abilities: When a hiring manager goes through the application received, various filters are used to get the best results. The most important one is the authenticity of the education resource. We all know that candidates from high-ranking institutes caught the attention of hiring managers at first. But, what if you were not able to make it to any big institute during your graduation? Should you not dream of a better future then? No. You must think of earning your CompTIA A+ credential as it is managed by a trusted and renowned IT leader company. The whole world knows that there is a huge group of best-of IT minds behind this CompTIA Security+ Certification. They have designed, updated, and monitored it continuously. So, you don’t have to struggle hard to let the world know that you are also part of a trusted institute. The logo of CompTIA will do this for you.

You can explore wide job profiles with a good salary: When you have expertise in only one skill/technology, you become eligible for only one job role. This also increases your job agony as hunting a job within a limited area makes it a more competitive task. The CompTIA A+ infuses a wide range of skills. As one needs to pass two different tests to earn this badge, there is hardly anything left behind when we speak of the skills learned. The first test, which is the CompTIA A+ 220-1001, lays great emphasis on technology associated with mobile devices and hardware. You also gain detailed knowledge of networking technology, virtualization, and cloud computing, and network troubleshooting. The other one, with code CompTIA Network+ Certification, was designed to make you competent in installing and configuring operating systems, software troubleshooting, expanded security, and operational procedures. Such a diverse skill set makes you eligible for various job roles. You can apply for a position of a service desk analyst, help desk tech, field service technician, desktop support administrator, technical support specialist, and many other inter-related job roles that will pay you a lot. In a nutshell, you will have more options to explore and struggle less after having the CompTIA A+ credential by your side as it makes you competent in a bevy of skills.

● You can defend your candidacy with full confidence: IT is one industry where having hands-on knowledge matters more than anything. Here, your conjectural knowledge is valuable only if you are aware of its real-time application. Else, it’s just junk for your employer. The CompTIA A+ Certification exams contain various types of questions to testify your conjectural as well as practical knowledge on the IT concepts. Their performance-based format has been specially designed for this purpose. By the time you end-up earning this badge, you will have impeccable hands-on knowledge of many basic-to-advance IT concepts. It makes you a real-time problem-solver and makes you able to think on your feet. So, when the interviewer asks you to resolve a real-time issue, you can do it with full perfection, accuracy, and confidence. You can easily let the world know your standing.

Future of Retail

The Future of Retail and Contactless Shopping

How Can Retailers Build Customer Loyalty – While Still 6 Feet Apart?

METHODOLOGY

MySize is a leading retail measurement technology company, used by companies such as Boyish Jeans, U.S. Polo Assn. and Intimates Uncovered. As states move to reopen, consumer trust has waned following events connected to the global pandemic. In order to better assess how consumers feel about returning to the physical retail setting, MySize conducted the following survey that outlines how consumers view the current in-store shopping experience, and their pain points with e-commerce operations.

To capture these insights, MySize surveyed 1.5k people across the United States.

The data derived from this survey revealed that consumers still crave a personalized shopping experience, but appreciate contactless tech-driven solutions. Consumers trust retailers and brands that implement new rules (i.e. private fitting rooms and requirements for holding returned clothing) in order to feel more safe about returning to stores post-COVID.

The survey also showed that the majority of consumers do not trust their clothing will fit them without physically trying apparel items on, which shows how critical contactless measurement technology will be to the future retail experience.

CONSUMERS ARE READY TO SHOP IN-STORE AGAIN

71% of consumers say that they feel comfortable shopping in-store at non-essential retail locations following the coronavirus pandemic. But, are they ready to step back in-store immediately?

TO WAIT, OR NOT TO WAIT?

The majority of those polled (30%) said they would feel comfortable shopping in-store again immediately

  • 26% of consumers will wait 2 weeks after the stores reopen to shop in-store
  • 18% of consumers will wait 1 month
  • 14% of consumers will wait 2-3 months
  • 11% of consumers will wait over 4 months after stores reopen to shop in-store again

Females are more hesitant to return to stores than men

  • The majority of women (28%) will wait 2 weeks after the stores reopen to shop again
  • The majority of men (36%) will return in-store immediately after stores reopen

Gen Z is also much more cautious than any other generation to shop in-store again

  • A whopping half of Gen Z will wait 2 weeks before shopping in-store again
  • Majority of Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers will all return in-store immediately

SO, WHERE WILL THEY SHOP?

The majority (49%) of consumers say they will feel most comfortable shopping at small, local retailers following the pandemic

  • 35% of consumers say they will be most comfortable shopping at department stores following the pandemic
  • Only 16% of consumers say they will feel most comfortable shopping at standalone specialty retail stores

Baby boomers are the most likely to support local businesses, with the vast majority (59%) responding that they will feel most comfortable shopping at small, local retailers

Will Gen Z, on the other hand, revive department stores?

  • The majority (43%) of Gen Z respondents said they feel most comfortable shopping in department stores following the pandemic

WHAT WILL CONSUMERS BE AVOIDING?

Shoppers say they are the most uncomfortable to shop in-store for the following:

  • The majority of shoppers (49%) are uncomfortable to shop for apparel now
  • 33% of shoppers are uncomfortable to shop for cosmetics now
  • 18% of shoppers say they are uncomfortable to shop for shoes now

WHAT MAKES SHOPPERS FEEL SAFE

Post-COVID-19, shoppers said that the following would make them feel the safest when shopping in-store:

  • 28% said requiring contactless payment options and purchases made via mobile devices
  • 27% said retailers holding returned clothing and/or merchandise for 48 hours
  • 26% said being able to book a private fitting room in advance that has been properly sterilized
  • 18% said retailers color coding returned clothing, based on how long ago the item was returned

SAFETY PRIORITY SHIFTS AMONGST GENDER AND AGE GROUPS

Breaking down the data from the previous question, we found the following:

  • The majority of Millennial respondents (30%) said that they would prefer that retailers require contactless payments
  • The majority of Baby Boomers (28%) would like retailers to hold returned merchandise for 48 hours
  • Similarly, the majority of female respondents (30%) would like retailers to hold returned merchandise for 48 hours

WHAT CONSUMERS WILL MISS ABOUT PRE-COVID SHOPPING

The majority of consumers (56.41%) responded saying that the most impacted aspect will be getting to try on items before purchasing

  • 19.66% of consumers responded with browsing at their own leisure
  • 13.25% said receiving recommendations from store employees
  • 10.68% of consumers responded with the social aspect of in-store shopping

Baby Boomers (24%) were the number one group who responded with browsing at their own leisure

CONSUMER TRUST & PROPER FIT

61% of consumers do not trust that their clothing will fit without physically trying it on

  • 21.67% of respondents would purchase multiple sizes and return unused merchandise at a later date

Men are more likely than women to purchase multiple sizes and return unused merchandise at a later date

  • 52.92% of men would prefer to purchase the item in multiple sizes and return the additional merchandise
  • The majority of women (61.72%) would prefer to make a sizing guess and hope that the item fits

THE REASONING BEHIND RETURNS

The majority of consumers (76.97%) reported that the most common reason behind returning clothing merchandise was that the item didn’t fit properly

  • 18.42% commonly return items because it’s not their style
  • 4.61% return clothing merchandise because it’s damaged

Millennials return items the most because they don’t fit properly

Additionally, consumers what convenience when it comes to return:

  • 53.42% prefer to return items in-store
  • 30.34% want to mail the item back
  • 15.81% prefer to curbside return
  • 0.43% wouldn’t return the item

TRANSPARENCY IN SIZING

The majority of consumers (93.54%) believe that retailers need to be more transparent about clothing sizes and the way in which items fit

  • A slim percentage (6.46%) of consumers do not feel that retailers need to more transparent about clothing sizes
  • Out of the percentage, males are the least concerned with retail sizing transparency
    • 66.67% of males do not feel that retailers need to be more transparent

Baby Boomers are the most concerned group when it comes to sizing transparency
