Break Dancers Set World Record

Break It ’til You Make It…Red Bull BC One is Spinning Into The Records Book

Over 70 breaking aficionados have set a world record for the most simultaneous windmill moves completed in 30 seconds.

The windmill is a classic Hip Hop dance move in which the legs are lifted high in the air and twisted in a windmill pattern, while the torso and head rest against the floor. The world record for the most windmills – the most recognizable move in breaking – was completed simultaneously by the largest group of dancers aged between 15 and 50 years old.

The world record was set at Kinderdijk, a village in the Netherlands’ South Holland province, known for its iconic 18th-century windmills and a monument to the history of humankind that was officially included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Over the past few years, the Hip Hop scene – and the culture that surrounds it – has grown dramatically, with rappers like Poke and Brainpower filling the country with old school beats and fuelling a society of talented breakers, battling in competitions around the Netherlands and around the World.

Leading the breakers is Italy’s Mauro Peruzzi – aka Cico, the ‘Prince of Power’. Known for his dynamic, gymnastic, power moves, Cico is one of the most impressive talents in the B-Boy Dance form today and this is not his first World Record. Especially heralded for his energetic airflare combination moves and incredible ‘1990s’, where he spins and speed in a one-armed handstand, holding the World Record with a mind-boggling 27 revolutions.

The World Record Breaking event marks the growing breaking scene in the Netherlands, with Amsterdam hosting this year’s Red Bull BC One World Finals on November 4th.

Porsche Launches Global Golf Network

Golf Circle brings customers together in an app-based community
Porsche launches global golf network
Stuttgart/Lisbon. Driving into digital worlds: The Porsche Golf Circle was launched at the “Founding Member Event” in Penha Longa, near the Portuguese capital Lisbon. The Porsche Golf Circle is an app-based community, exclusively for Porsche customers who are also golf enthusiasts. This sees the sports car manufacturer, which has primarily focussed on amateur and professional tournaments for the past 30 years, expand its involvement in the world of golf.

“Porsche and golf have dynamics, technology and precision in common. In turn, members of the Porsche Golf Circle share a great passion for both Porsche and golf,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Director Experiential Marketing at Porsche AG. “Past Porsche golf events have already seen participants form communities, and there is an increasing desire for a more intense interchange and shared experiences. We are reacting to this desire by launching the Porsche Golf Circle, which now offers a home for all those Porsche customers who are also interested in golf.”

Anyone who owns a Porsche can join the Porsche Golf Circle. The platform, on which to do so, is an app for Android and iOS. This app allows members to contact other community members directly, find playing partners around the world and discover more about the latest Porsche golf activities. More services, such as training tips in the form of digital golf tutorials, help with rules and reports are also planned. As of 2018, one of the highlights of the Porsche Golf Circle will be exclusive events around the world.

The first of these was the founding meeting of the digital golf network at the Penha Longa Resort, which was attended by 180 participants from 16 countries. “The great demand from our customers and the international character of our guests underline the desire for this network,” Oliver Hoffmann emphasised at the Founding Member Event. All participants of the Porsche Golf World Finals dating back to 2014 were invited as founding members, provided they were still Porsche owners. They were treated to a very special golfing experience on the outskirts of Lisbon: as well as two rounds on the Oitavos Dunes and Atlântico courses, the guests were also able to experience the latest Porsche models on the roads around the Portuguese capital. Following a meeting with legendary American golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Porsche Golf Circle was officially launched at the closing gala dinner.

Download options

Porsche customers can download the Porsche Golf Circle app free of charge for tablets and smartphones via the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).
Porsche in golf

Porsche has been involved in golf since 1988, through the Porsche Golf Cup – a global amateur series for Porsche customers. In 2015, this commitment was ex-panded with the title sponsorship of the Porsche European Open, which is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the European Tour. Last year, the Porsche Generations Open – a nine-hole tournament series for amateurs – was launched.

THOR #700 Sets the Stage for The Asgardian’s Future

Writer Jason Aaron and Editor Wil Moss tease what’s to come for the hammer-wielding hero

New York, NY—October 23, 2017—THOR #700 raised the Mighty Asgardian to a new level of storytelling in an epic tale from writer Jason Aaron and a host of incredible artists such as Russell Dauterman, Walter Simonson, James Harren, Becky Cloonan, Das Pastoras, Chris Burnham, Andrew MacLean, Jill Thompson, Mike del Mundo, Olivier Coipel, Daniel Acuna, and Matthew Wilson. And in the spirit of Marvel Legacy, this is just the beginning of a story that will affect not just Thor, but the Marvel Universe at large.

“The Death Of The Mighty Thor story has only just begun, but two THOR characters are already dead!” teases editor Wil Moss. “In THE MIGHTY THOR #700, the monstrous Mangog kills Thor’s goat Toothgnasher and Malekith’s dark army kills Karnilla, Queen of the Norns. Before she dies, though, Karnilla sees where the threads of fate are leading, and thanks to a gorgeous double-page spread by writer Jason Aaron, artist Russell Dauterman and color artist Matthew Wilson, readers get to see what’s coming too.”

“You see a lot teases for upcoming stories here,” says writer Jason Aaron. “Some of those stories will play out in the pages of THOR. Others will play out elsewhere, some across multiple titles. Between THOR #700 and MARVEL LEGACY #1, I’m really setting the stage for the biggest stories I’ll be doing for Marvel in 2018. Probably the biggest stories I’ve ever done for Marvel, period. You see a lot of that set-up here, and I’m beyond excited for everybody to see where it’s leading and what it means for Thor, not to mention the rest of the Marvel Universe.”

“We’re not going to explain the meaning behind all the various images on that double-page spread,” continues Moss, “but we want to hear our readers’ best guesses! Drop us a line at MHEROES@marvel.com, and mark your emails ‘Okay To Print’!”

The perfect jumping-on point for all fans, THOR #700 is in comic shops now. Don’t miss your chance to get in on the action! And look for THOR #701 – which Moss calls “an issue-length brawl to end all brawls” – coming to comic shops in November!

The Death of Stalin UK premiere in London

The internal political landscape of 1950’s Soviet Russia takes on darkly comic form in a new film by Emmy award-winning and Oscar-nominated writer/director Armando Iannucci. On the night of March the 2nd 1953, a man is dying. A terrible stroke is wracking his entire body. He is drooling. He is pissing himself. He is about to kick the bucket and if you play your cards right, his job is yours for the taking. The man is Joseph Stalin – dictator, tyrant, butcher, as well as Secretary General of the USSR. The Death of Stalin is a satire about the days before the funerals of the Nation’s Father. Days that shine a sardonic light on all the madness, depravity and inhumanity of totalitarianism. Days that will see the men surrounding him fight to inherit his supreme power. And it’s all based on true events.

A film that combines comedy, drama, pathos and political manoeuvring, The Death of Stalin is a Quad, Main Journey and Gaumont production, directed by Armando Iannucci, and produced by Yann Zenou, Laurent Zeitoun, Nicolas Duval Assakovsky and Kevin Loader.

Watch our interview with director Armando Ianucci, co-writer David Schneider, Michael Palin, Paul Whitehouse, producers Kevin Loader, Laurent Zeitoun and Yann Zenou, Adrian Mcloughlin, Daniel Tuite and Paul Chahidi.

National AIDS Memorial × Quest Diagnostics 100K Grant

National AIDS Memorial Receives $100,000 Grant from Quest Diagnostics

Quest Diagnostics employees and executives joined more than 100 community volunteers at the National AIDS Memorial to announce a $100,000 grant to Bolster Community Volunteer WorkdaysQuest Diagnostics employees and executives joined more than 100 community volunteers at the National AIDS Memorial to announce a $100,000 grant to bolster the memorial’s volunteer workday program in 2018.

The Quest Diagnostics grant, one of the largest received by the National AIDS Memorial, will support the memorial’s Community Volunteer Workday program in 2018, help fund new equipment, plants, trees and shrubberies and support maintenance and hardscape improvements. The grant will also help underwrite the National AIDS Memorial World AIDS Day commemoration events on November 30 and December 1.

“We are grateful for the support of Quest Diagnostics, as this grant comes at a critical time in our efforts to tell the story of people who have died from AIDS and ensure their stories are known by future generations,” said John Cunningham, Executive Director, National AIDS Memorial. “The community volunteer workdays are at the heart of our mission and this grant provides important funding to support keeping our 10-acre memorial a beautiful space for healing and remembrance.”

Since 1991, nearly 40,000 volunteers have participated in more than 300 Community Volunteer Workdays at the National Aids Memorial, donating more than 200,000 volunteer hours and planting more than 10,000 trees, plants and shrubs. The sacred ground of the 10-acre, living memorial honors all who have confronted the tragic HIV/AIDS pandemic; those who have died, and those who have shared their struggle, kept the vigils and supported each other during their final hours.

“Quest Diagnostics has been a long-time supporter of the National AIDS Memorial and its mission and we are proud to expand our commitment through this grant,” said Thomas Patrick Plewman, General Manager, IDI/General Health and Wellness, Quest Diagnostics. “The memorial is a special place where people from all around the world come to remember loved ones lost to AIDS, which is why we’re proud to help maintain this national landmark and support the memorial’s community activities.”

Nearly 30 years ago, an original Quest Diagnostics company was the first to develop a test that identified the presence of HIV. As of 2014, an estimated 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV and less than half have ever been tested for the HIV virus. As a leading provider of diagnostics information services, Quest Diagnostics is dedicated to advancing disease management for the HIV community and raising the standards of care in HIV diagnostics and beyond. Whether a patient is dealing with HIV or another condition, Quest Diagnostics helps collaborate and provide accurate information so patients can make the best decisions for their health and well-being.

About the National AIDS Memorial
: The National AIDS Memorial is a dedicated space in the national landscape where millions of Americans touched directly or indirectly by AIDS can gather to heal, hope, and remember. The National AIDS Memorial, known as “the Grove”, was created twenty-five years ago in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as a place where those impacted by AIDS could both grieve and begin the process of healing. In 1996, legislation sponsored by U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi was signed into law by President Bill Clinton that elevated “the Grove” as this nation’s sole federally-designated National AIDS Memorial. Today, nearly 40,000 individuals from around the world have contributed 200,000 volunteer hours to support the National AIDS Memorial and its mission to provide, in perpetuity, a place of remembrance so that the lives of people who died from AIDS are not forgotten and the story is known by future generations.
