Queen × Adam Lambert

The legacy of Freddie Mercury, the late singer of the band Queen, has been able to live on for the past decade as Adam Lambert took over the vocals of the band.

Following the parting of former stand in singer in 2009, Paul Rodgers, the band was looking for someone who could embody all that Freddie Mercury stood for as well as bring power and strength with their vocals. This happened to be the same year that Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol, choosing to sing the band’s hit song “Bohemian Rhapsody” for it.

Lambert, however, did not win the show’s eighth season but instead was second runner up. But it seems he won a greater prize: an opportunity to sing for Queen.

Throughout the season, the original guitarist of the band had become aware of Lambert’s rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and knew he was a top contender. Lambert was then asked to step in and become the lead singer of Queen.

Following this, the band went on tour in 2014 and have held concerts all around the world. Over the last decade, Queen has continued touring, releasing albums, and even debuted a documentary in 2019 entitled The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story

Most recently, the band gained their first number one album in the U.K. in 25 years with “Live Around the World” which featured live music and highlights from the last decade of the bands’ tour with Lambert. This is also Lambert’s first ever number one in the U.K.

Queen is no stranger to winning titles and setting records in the music world. Almost 45 years ago did they achieve their first number one album, A Night at the Opera, and the band’s resilience has not wavered.

Amazon hosted a live Q&A on October 14 with Lambert, in correlation to the company’s music streaming service, to give fans a way to get to know the Queen singer a little better and answer some questions fans were curious about.

With Lambert leading the way, and with original guitarist and drummer, Brian May and Roger Taylor, the band has been able to keep Queen’s legacy alive and give fans decades more music to enjoy.

The band has been able to do so by sharing the music the original group wrote and produced, but Brian May says they might release some new music with Lambert. According to the U.K. news outlet The Express, May revealed to them that they “have dabbled” in the studio with some original pieces.

Regardless of old or new music, it is safe to say that the band has been able to withstand the test of time. All generations of fans are able to still feel the emotion behind the lyrics Freddie Mercury sang originally, and the ones Adam Lambert embraces now.

Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor create special film to send Christmas message to fans.

Queen icons Brian May and Roger Taylor today posted their personal Christmas messages to fans worldwide with the gift of a new specially created animation film for the band’s “Thank God It’s Christmas” track originally released in November 1984.

Brian and Roger’s Christmas messages can be seen HERE × HERE.

“Thank God It’s Christmas” was a rare song writing collaboration between Roger and Brian. The song spent six weeks in the UK charts over the Christmas/New Year period 1984/1985. It enjoyed a second lease of life Christmas 1995 coupled with the hit single “A Winter’s Tale” from the Made In Heaven album. Here the track receives a fully animated treatment.

The concept for this new animated film came directly from Brian and Roger who explain their thoughts behind it with Roger saying, “Ironically, Christmas tends to be such a stressful time for so many of us. So many emotions, joyful memories of past Christmas’ as delighted children and responsible adults / parents. It’s just a great relief when it finally happens.”

Brian adds, “The video goes a little further by including a subtle reminder that we as humans now need to feel a responsibility for the welfare of ALL creatures on Earth – not just for our own benefit, and that of our grandchildren, but out of respect for the rights of the animals themselves.”

Working with Brian and Roger, the film was directed & animated on their behalf by Justin Moon and executive produced by Drew Gleason for production company °1824. The new “Thank God It’s Christmas” film is available to enjoy in two versions:

5 Seconds Of Summer Honor Queen With Cover Of “Killer Queen”

In honor of the life and legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, and in celebration of the upcoming biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, multi-platinum band 5 Seconds Of Summer release a cover of Queen’s 1974 seminal hit, “Killer Queen” today at all digital providers.  Stream/Download “Killer Queen” HERE.

Says 5SOS, “Queen have been such a massive influence on us as a band.  Their unique harmonies, the fluidity to their songwriting and how they each used their own musicality to back each other up have always inspired us.  We chose to cover, ‘Killer Queen’ because we kept hearing it while writing our third album, Youngblood and were so enamored by the production and their early realization of the minimalist approach to the track.  For us, the exploration of individual vocalists in a band is incredibly important and Queen helped us to see the future of how we want to sing, in addition to how we play our instruments.  As a pioneer of individuality, Freddie taught us what it means to embrace the idea of truly being yourself and that’s a part of Queen that lives on in their music now, more than ever.”

The song, produced by Linus, follows singer-songwriter and musician, Shawn Mendes’ acoustic interpretation of the iconic 1981 No. 1 hit, “Under Pressure” and was recorded as the second installment in a series of three artist covers in support of the Mercury Phoenix Trust (MPT).  The MPT was founded in 1992 by Brian MayRoger Taylor and Jim Beach to support the global fight against HIV/AIDS. 5SOS, together with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Queen, will donate net profits of the track to the MPT.

“Everyone at the Mercury Phoenix Trust is thrilled that 5 Seconds of Summer have joined our global campaign fighting AIDS in celebration of the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you 5SOS for giving us such an impeccable version of Freddie’s classic Killer Queen,” said Queen’s manager, Jim Beach.
