Queen × Adam Lambert

The legacy of Freddie Mercury, the late singer of the band Queen, has been able to live on for the past decade as Adam Lambert took over the vocals of the band.

Following the parting of former stand in singer in 2009, Paul Rodgers, the band was looking for someone who could embody all that Freddie Mercury stood for as well as bring power and strength with their vocals. This happened to be the same year that Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol, choosing to sing the band’s hit song “Bohemian Rhapsody” for it.

Lambert, however, did not win the show’s eighth season but instead was second runner up. But it seems he won a greater prize: an opportunity to sing for Queen.

Throughout the season, the original guitarist of the band had become aware of Lambert’s rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and knew he was a top contender. Lambert was then asked to step in and become the lead singer of Queen.

Following this, the band went on tour in 2014 and have held concerts all around the world. Over the last decade, Queen has continued touring, releasing albums, and even debuted a documentary in 2019 entitled The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story

Most recently, the band gained their first number one album in the U.K. in 25 years with “Live Around the World” which featured live music and highlights from the last decade of the bands’ tour with Lambert. This is also Lambert’s first ever number one in the U.K.

Queen is no stranger to winning titles and setting records in the music world. Almost 45 years ago did they achieve their first number one album, A Night at the Opera, and the band’s resilience has not wavered.

Amazon hosted a live Q&A on October 14 with Lambert, in correlation to the company’s music streaming service, to give fans a way to get to know the Queen singer a little better and answer some questions fans were curious about.

With Lambert leading the way, and with original guitarist and drummer, Brian May and Roger Taylor, the band has been able to keep Queen’s legacy alive and give fans decades more music to enjoy.

The band has been able to do so by sharing the music the original group wrote and produced, but Brian May says they might release some new music with Lambert. According to the U.K. news outlet The Express, May revealed to them that they “have dabbled” in the studio with some original pieces.

Regardless of old or new music, it is safe to say that the band has been able to withstand the test of time. All generations of fans are able to still feel the emotion behind the lyrics Freddie Mercury sang originally, and the ones Adam Lambert embraces now.
