Alessia Cara × Bastille

Alessia Cara is featured on Bastille’s new version of “Another Place,” and in the accompanying video, which was also released today. The song – a tender look at a fleeting encounter – originally appeared on the band’s new album, Doom Days (Virgin Records). Download “Another Place” ft. Alessia Cara HERE. View the video HERE.

“I’d always heard ‘Another Place’ as a duet and wanted it to be a story told from two perspectives. It’s not something we’ve ever done, outside of our mixtapes, but we are huge fans of Alessia’s – her voice and her songwriting are so distinct and brilliant – and we sent it to her to see if she’d be up for jumping on it with us,” explains Bastille frontman Dan Smith.

Smith continues, “We love her verse and everything that she’s brought to the song – I think she really elevates it. We all got to spend some time together in her home town of Toronto recently, where she joined us on stage to sing ‘Another Place’ together for the first time, and where we shot the surrealist video for the song. It’s been really great to bring a new voice into the Doom Days universe, and we’re so happy that Alessia was up for coming along with us for it.”

Alessia Cara says, “I’ve been a Bastille fan since their early stuff so doing this song with them was genuinely so exciting. I met Dan last year and we got on really well. We talked about doing something together and he sent me the song a little while later. I loved the concept and thought it was both sonically and lyrically really great, as all Bastille stuff is. It all came together pretty naturally, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

The GRAMMY®-nominated, BRIT-winning band recently appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” performing “Bad Decisions” – another song from Doom Days. View HERE.

Available everywhere, Doom Days takes listeners on a big night out in search of distraction from the surrounding apocalypse. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Album Sales chart and in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.

Lead single “Quarter Past Midnight” is Bastille’s third single to hit No. 1 on the Mediabase Alternative chart. “Joy,” the follow-up, has amassed more than 70 million combined streams globally. In a four-star review, NME said, ‘Doom Days’ is a vivid snapshot of humanity and an imaginative, adventurous levelling up from one of Britain’s most influential bands. If the end times are coming, you could do a whole lot worse than taking its lead and gathering up all your friends, pressing play and partying like it’s 1999.”

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “Britpop’s new crown princes,” Bastille has sold over eight million adjusted albums and amassed more than 11 billion cumulative streams globally. The band was introduced internationally with the single “Pompeii,” which is now 6x Platinum in the U.S. alone. Marshmello and Bastille’s hit single, “Happier,” has topped charts around the world, with cumulative streams exceeding 3.5 billion. It is certified 5x Platinum in the U.S. and has sold more than 15 million units in the rest of the world. “Happier” held the No. 1 position for three consecutive weeks on Billboard’s BDS and Media base/Top 40 Radio Airplay chart. It has spent a record-breaking 56 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic songs tally.

ABOUT ALESSIA CARA:

2018’s “Best New Artist” GRAMMY Award winning Canadian singer/songwriter and Def Jam Recordings artist Alessia Cara emerged onto the music scene in 2015 with her first release, “Here,” a global anthem that grabbed the world’s attention when it garnered over 500,000 streams on Soundcloud in its first week. “Here” went on to become Spotify’s Most Viral Song of 2015, selling over 3 million copies. Her five-track EP, Four Pink Walls, soon followed, leading to the release of her RIAA platinum debut album KNOW-IT-ALL (November 2015). Alessia’s multi-platinum #1 hit single of 2016, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” was her gut-wrenching take on female identity, on body image and on deleterious behaviors in the name of beauty. “Stay,” her #1 hit with Zedd, sold over 2 million copies and received Song Of The Summer raves. Also in 2016, Alessia lent her voice to “How Far I’ll Go,” penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the official song for Disney’s animated film Moana. The 4x-platinum “1-800-273-8255,” her historic collaboration with fellow Def Jam artist Logic, was one of 2017’s landmark singles with over 4 billion streams worldwide, contributing to her being named the most-streamed new female artist of 2017.  “Growing Pains” (June 2018) was the prelude to Alessia’s second album, her critically acclaimed THE PAINS OF GROWING (released in November), which included the follow-up single releases “Trust My Lonely” and “Out Of Love.”

A JUNO award winner for 2016 Breakthrough Artist of the Year in her native Canada, Alessia went on to receive the “Rule Breaker” honor at the Billboard Women in Music annual event. She won MTV VMAs in 2017 for Best Electronic Dance Video (for “Stay”) and Best Fight Against The System (for her multi-platinum #1 Billboard Pop Song “Scars To Your Beautiful,” which she and Logic performed with Khalid as the climactic moment of that year’s GRAMMY broadcast). Alessia also won back-to-back ASCAP Pop Awards for “Stay” and “Scars To Your Beautiful”; along with Dance Song of the Year (for “Stay”) at the iHeart Radio Music Awards. She has earned nominations for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock at the 2017 American Music Awards, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Breakout Artist, the Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, the BET Award for Best New Artist, the BBC Award for Song of The Year, and many other top honors. Most recently Alessia was nominated for two Latin GRAMMY Awards for Record and Song of the year for “Querer Mejor.”

Twitter Bans Free Speech?

Twitter has banned all political ads on its platform becoming a hero for a day. It was a surprising move given the reluctance of tech companies to get involved in the content posted on their sites. Like most such actions, the actual impact will hardly be noticeable. Since Twitter is the only site to ban political ads, people will still be exposed to paid content from candidates on other larger networks. According to ComScore, Facebook and Google have significantly more unique users in the US than Twitter, so people will still be exposed to online political advertising. Second, Twitter makes news when influential people tweet. The more outrageous the statement, the more likely the information will spread, not only on Twitter, but in traditional news outlets as well. Pairing that with the fact that people tend to trust paid less than organic content, the tweets will still hit their targets who will be even more likely to believe what they read.

So, is it a public good that Twitter is banning political ads or not? It’s certainly a relatively easy thing for Twitter to do. It is much more difficult to monitor the ads and determine their veracity. This process would require flagging suspicious content and hiring people to evaluate the messages. The problem is that banning all political ads means that candidates who do not have strong Twitter followings will be less able to reach audiences with their messages, thus giving even more power to the powerful.

Artificial intelligence techniques are improving and tech firms may have more tools in the future to effectively monitor. In 2018 Instagram announced that they are using a machine learning platform called DeepText to detect bullying language. This kind of technology could be applied to political ads to flag them for internal review. However, the platforms may be reluctant to adopt the monitoring technologies because of the potential for increased scrutiny of their businesses by political and governmental entities.

Mandy Moore, 360 MAGAZINE, Lauren Dukoff

Mandy Moore – I’d Rather Lose

Mandy Moore released her second single today titled “I’d Rather Lose,” from her forthcoming new album. The song follows the release of the singer-songwriter’s first new single “When I Wasn’t Watching,” which NPR raved “the song sways with Stevie Nicks energy” and The Atlantic described as “…folkie rock pop, building on a lineage running from Fleetwood Mac to Haim.” Moore’s warm vocals shine through on both new tracks which will appear on her first new album in a decade, due out early next year via Verve Forecast. Click HERE to listen to the single and for audio video, click HERE.

“We live in a cultural moment of “win at all costs” and that may afford small victories in the short term but this song tries to explore the idea of trying to live according to your moral compass, whatever that might be,” says Moore. “It’s easy to run out of patience and give into temptations on any given day, but it seems like the only way of achieving the kind of long term peace of mind we’re all looking for, requires a recommitment to the concepts of honesty and integrity that ground us. On a macro level, that’s what this song aims to hit on – abandoning some game you never subscribed to in the first place.”

Newly signed to Verve Forecast (a label whose roster also includes such esteemed artists as T Bone Burnett and J.S. Ondara), Moore began recording the new album earlier this year. In a purposeful departure from the more tightly structured pop of her previous material, she’s worked closely with long-time collaborator and producer Mike Viola and with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith (singer/guitarist/songwriter for L.A.-based folk-rock band Dawes), creating the album’s lyrics on her own and recording each song live with a full band setup.

As a result of that more organic production approach, songs like “When I Wasn’t Watching” and “I’d Rather Lose,” embody a bright vitality that wholly fulfills Moore’s initial vision for the album. “I wanted to make a very California-sounding record – something that feels sunshiny and airy and natural, something you could listen to driving up and down the PCH with all the windows rolled down on a beautiful weekend day,” she notes.

With her second single out today, Moore looks forward to embarking on the next chapter of her music career with a newfound sense of agency. “I very much feel like I’m at the helm of the ship now, where I’m stepping back into music completely on my own terms,” she says. “Everything that’s happened up until this point has gotten me to where I am today, and I’m so excited to just keep moving forward.”

About Mandy Moore

An Emmy-, Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated actress, singer, and songwriter, Mandy Moore first came to national attention with her platinum-selling 1999 debut album So Real. With her sophomore effort I Wanna Be with You arriving in 2000 and her self-titled third album released in 2001, she starred in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s A Walk to Remember in 2002, winning an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance. Over the next decade, Moore appeared in a dozen films and released a series of celebrated albums: 2003’s Coverage, 2007’s Wild Hope, and 2009’s Amanda Leigh. Since 2016, she’s starred on the critically acclaimed NBC series “This Is Us,” earning Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role as matriarch Rebecca Pearson. With the fourth season of “This Is Us” premiering in late-September 2019, Moore will next be seen alongside Woody Harrelson in Roland Emmerich’s feature film Midway.

MCID – New Album

3x Grammy Nominated HIGHLY SUSPECT release third studio album MCID

LISTEN NOW

Today 3x Grammy Award-nominated rock band Highly Suspect release their long awaited third album MCID via 300 Entertainment. The genre-defying sixteen song LP is an experience that blends rock, rap, hip-hop, pop, heavy metal and just about everything in between and includes features from Young Thug, Tee Grizzley, Gojira, and Conor Mason of Nothing But Thieves.

MCID is a family meeting and an apology from lead singer Johnny Stevens whose lyrics demand accountability from himself and urge him to be more honest to conquer the demons that made him who he is. The album dives head first into personal experiences and topics like paternity surprises, insecurities, heartbreak, hope, false social media worship, substance abuse, and anti-trump lyrics. Tracks “Canals” and “Silk Road” express animosity towards the political landscape through fiery sound and hard hitting lyrics. Opening track “Fly” grapples with hard hitting issues like self-realization, suicide, and trying to change with an addictive chorus ringing out “Dear Johnny be honest / You can change if you want it.”

First single off album MCID“16,” has reached #1 on Rock Radio in the country, making this the third #1 song for Highly Suspect at #1 on Rock Radio. “16” is a song about love and heartbreak, unique to the rock scene with not a single guitar on the track. No other song has reached #1 on Rock Radio void of guitars in the last 30 years. Other notable acts to hit #1 on Rock Radio since that date include Pearl Jam, Green Day, and Soundgarden.

Highly Suspect is in the midst of their US headline tour with support from Slothrust and recently announced their 27 city North American Headlining Tourkicking off on February 1. Tickets go on sale today, November 1, at 10am local time. Highly Suspect will also be embarking on a major Global Tour in 2019 and 2020 with underplays sold out in a matter of hours. As the #41 touring band in the worldaccording to Pollstar’s Top 75 live and in the top #100 for US Shazams, Highly Suspect is turning rock music on its head.

More on Highly Suspect:

MCID. This is the slogan tattooed on bodies across the world, four letters that hold so much meaning, a mystery to anyone who is not in the know. Highly Suspect members Johnny Stevens and twins Rich and Ryan Meyer had not only been playing music for eight years before topping radio charts, garnering Grammy nominations, and selling out tours- but they also had been gradually accruing a cast of comrades that orbited their star, friends and chosen family that would travel the world with them, move cross country with them, and become pet parents with them. The growing community of companions have a name, and it is MCID.

Originally from Cape Cod, the three band members played covers in dive bars and moved to a studio apartment in Brooklyn together. In 2015, they gained national recognition after the release of their debut album Mister Asylum on 300 Entertainment and their singles “Lydia” and “Bloodfeather” topped the rock radio charts. The next year they performed at the Grammy Ceremony, receiving two nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song. In 2016 the band traveled to Bogota, Colombia to record their second album, The Boy Who Died Wolf. It was released in November 2016 and the success of hits “Little One” and “My Name Is Human,” earned the band a third Grammy nominationfor Best Rock Song. And now the band is releasing album three, a manifesto full of lead singer Johnny Steven’s private confessions.

NBA and China

The American public strongly supports the Houston Rockets general manager’s tweet regarding Hong Kong and China’s rights conflict. (Daryl Morey, the GM, tweeted support for the Hong Kong protesters seeking freedom from Chinese oversight.  The Chinese reacted with disdain and business with the NBA was threatened).Only 9 percent of the public thought the Rockets GM, Daryl Morey, should be fired, with 77 percent saying the Rockets should keep him and defend his freedom of speech.  14 percent said they did not know or had no opinion.

In addition, 54 percent of the nation feels Daryl Morey should be applauded for taking a stand supporting the Hong Kong protesters, with only 19 percent saying he should not have sent the tweet because it risked valuable relationships over a foreign domestic issue.  27 percent did not know or had no opinion.
These are the findings of a Seton Hall Sports Poll, conducted this week among 703 adult Americans across the country on both landlines and cellphones.  The Poll has a margin of error of +/-3.8 percent.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver first apologized for the tweet but later backtracked and showed support for freedom of speech.  46 percent of the public felt he handled it well, and 36 percent say he did not, with 18 percent saying they did not know or had no opinion.

52% Say Lebron James’ Comments were out of self-interest

LeBron James tweeted condemnation of Morey, claiming “he wasn’t educated on the situation” and endangered people “not only financially but physically.”  Only 28 percent thought his reaction was sincere, with 52 percent saying he acted out of financial self-interest.

69% expressed concern that China has so much influence over an American professional League, with only 23 percent saying they are not concerned.

Morey’s Tweet vs. Kaepernick’s Kneeling

Comparing Morey’s tweet to Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling during the national anthem, 47 percent said both actions should be defended as free speech, with 16 percent saying that it only applied to Morey and 5 percent saying it only applied to Kaepernick.

There are big differences between Democrats and Republicans on this comparison.  59 percent of Democrats and only 29 percent of Republicans say that they should both be defended as free speech, while 7 percent of Democrats and 21 percent of Republicans say that it only applies to Morey.

“The fundamental right of free speech seems to have carried the day in favor of Daryl Morey’s tweet,” noted Rick Gentile, director of the Seton Hall Sports Poll, which is sponsored by the Sharkey Institute within the Stillman School of Business. “It is much clearer when applied to a foreign power than to a domestic one.”

Teyana Taylor – multi-hyphenate R&B superstar singer, songwriter, producer, director, dancer/choreographer, actor, fitness guru, model, mother and Harlem native  – announces the release of “Morning” featuring Kehlani, the brand new single and steamy video, both available today via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Recordings.  “Morning” is the second advance track from THE ALBUM, following up the R&B smash “How You Want It? (HYWI?)” featuring King Combs.

THE ALBUM is the long-awaited follow-up to Teyana’s KTSE, one of the five G.O.O.D. Music/ Def Jam albums produced by Kanye West during his 2018 sojourn in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  Released in June, KTSE (acronym for Keep That Same Energy) set off an 18-month chain reaction for Teyana, starting with its summertime RIAA- certified Gold smash “Gonna Love Me.”  Teyana performed “Gonna Love Me” (in a medley with “Rose In Harlem,” also from KTSE) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.  Hip-hop audiences embraced the Gonna Love Me” remix featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface KillahMethod Man and Raekwon, whose video was directed by Teyana herself.

KTSE spun off a hot new single and video for Teyana in early 2019, the explicit “WTP (Work This P***y).”  The video was nominated last week for “Best Dance Performance” at the upcoming BET Soul Train Awards, airing live from Las Vegas on November 17. The third single from KTSE was the evocative “Issues/Hold On.”  After slaying the audience with the song live on Ellen in April 2019, Teyana was surprised on-air when Ellen presented her with the RIAA gold award plaque for “Gonna Love Me,” bringing it all full circle.

As she continues to direct her own videos, Teyana – aka ‘Spike Tee’ – was again at the helm of the clip for her recent single, How You Want It? (HYWI?) featuring King Combs, released in August.

About TEYANA TAYLOR:
Being a jack of trades has allowed Teyana Taylor to become a master of all. From her smoky melodic vocals to her dynamic dance moves, the entertainer dips in dives between her talents that also include producing, songwriting, acting, directing and everything in between. When it comes to describing herself, the Harlem native can only think of one word: Everything.

“I literally can do everything. I never look at anything as being impossible,” she explains. “I exhaust all options to make what happen when I need to make happen.” Her mantra made her an early favorite to artists like Pharrell, who she signed her first deal with, and later choreographed videos for artists like Beyonce and Jay-Z. Her love for the arts and R&B later earned her the title of the first woman signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint.

Between R&B’s identity crisis in the 2010s, Teyana dropped her debut album VII, with tracks like “Maybe” (featuring Yo Gotti and Pusha T) and the sultry “Just Different” shaping her musical persona. The critically acclaimed album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2014, cementing her position in today modern R&B field. “I fought for that raw, hood necessary R&B and now I feel like it’s better than ever,” she says.

After spicing up the R&B charts, Teyana was blessed with the arrival of her daughter Junie with husband and NBA star Iman Shumpert in 2015. “I do all of this for my baby. She’s who I do it for,” she says about Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., her main source of inspiration. “I always show her how to be a leader and a businesswoman. I want her to believe that she can be anything she wants to be and it not be a shocker that she’s a female doing it all.” Soon after, Teyana went on to star in the internet-breaking video for Kanye West’s “Fade,” and scored her first MTV Moonman for “Best Choreography” at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

But it wasn’t until the release of her sophomore project K.T.S.E. in June 2018 that the world experienced Teyana’s talents. With her all-female production company The Aunties, Teyana self-directed videos for “WTP,” the Gold-selling single “Gonna Love Me,” and recently, “Issues/Hold On.” She has also directed videos for her peers like T.I. (“You”), Monica (“Commitment”) and Lil Duval (“Pull Up” featuring Ty Dolla $ign) with fans like Ms. Lauryn Hill and Elton John praising her boss moves.

Part of what makes Teyana stand out from the rest is her ability to move with precision and poise in everything she does. From the studio to the stage, every idea is a project with the singer front and center with a vision all her own. With her musical inspirations like Aaliyah, Teena Marie, Mint Condition and Janet Jackson speaking to her soul, Teyana is aware her mission is larger than life. “I’m working on me every day and I think that’s my purpose,” she says, comparing her life to a never-ending book. “I’m still going, still mastering and being a better me.”

O’Gara Coach × Formula 1

This week marked the first-time Los Angeles has played host to a Formula 1 event. The Formula 1 Hollywood Ride of Fame took place on a closed down Hollywood Blvd over the course of two days, beginning Tuesday, October 29th, and ending on Wednesday 30th. Leading luxury car dealership group, O’Gara Coach Beverly Hills, sponsored the event as well as provided three of the participating vehicles, a McLaren GT4, McLaren 600LT, and an Aston Martin DBS.

“We’re very excited to welcome the Formula 1 family to Los Angeles and introduce the city to the pinnacle series of racing! We are particularly happy to have the Aston Martin Red Bull team here to tear up the streets on Hollywood Blvd and O’Gara is thrilled to also be a part of the show and excite the fans alongside F1.”
– Rhys Edwards, Executive Director of Marketing at O’Gara Coach

Formula 1 kicked off the event by featuring a static display of past and present F1 cars, giving enthusiasts the opportunity to take an up-close and personal look at the vehicles. The O’Gara Coach vehicles were also on display at this time, garnering attention from the crowds hoping to snap a photo and peek at the models. By 4 pm on Wednesday, the live festivities officially began and thousands of spectators were lined up on Hollywood Blvd to watch the live show. O’Gara kicked off the show by driving their cars through the track driven by world-class professionals including Parris Mullins, Mark Proto, and Geoff Reeves. The crowd was mesmerized as these dazzling vehicles exhibited a true pinnacle of supercars in the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Blvd. Following O’Gara’s presentation, Red Bull provided an extravagant display of dare devil’s parachuting from the sky to arrive right on the track, stunt bikers, and acrobats. As a special delight, a live orchestra led by composer Brian Tyler performed the F1 theme song.

Wednesday also featured demonstrations from three Formula 1 world champions Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. The trio was accompanied by their respective teams; Mercedes AMG Petronas Racing, Renault F1, and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, before heading to Austin Texas to compete in the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. All three riders also took part in an inaugural “F1 Donut Competition”, and with the help of the crowd, guest judge Brian Tyler chose Valterri as the champion. To close out the festivities all three world champion riders took to the track and all completed donuts with their race cars at the same time. Safe to say, the crowd went wild!

The McLaren 570S GT4 is a full competition specification GT4 car that is ready to race straight from the factory. The new McLaren 600LT builds on the agility and the purity of the 570S, its detailed connection to the road, and imbues it with the raw thrills and exhilarating performance that only a McLaren “Longtail” can deliver. The Aston Martin DBS has long signified the utmost in elegance and speed, comfort and performance. The shape is unmistakably Aston Martin, but stronger, broader, and more muscular than ever, not as a stylish whim but to cool and control the most powerful machine Aston Martin has ever produced.
