Duke Dumont’s Debut – “Duality’

DUKE DUMONT UNVEILS DEBUT ALBUM DUALITY

THE 10 TRACK RELEASE INCLUDES HIT SINGLES “THERAPY,” “THE POWER” AND “LET ME GO”

BUY/STREAM DUALITY HERE

Multi-platinum hit-maker Duke Dumont has released his highly anticipated debut album DUALITY. Listen HERE.

Channeling his years of experience into a cohesive record that epitomizes his core beliefs, DUALITY is an honest, cathartic expression of Dumont’s desire to embody the mentality of a true artist, liberated from genre specifics and scored with his own sonic fingerprint.

With the LP split into two halves – one dancefloor-oriented and one introspective – it’s heart on sleeve, vocal house record “Therapy” opens proceedings, a track that was released as a single at the start of the year. Next up is club anthem “The Power,” a collaboration with UK singer-songwriter Zak Abel that was also released as a single, and “Obey,” a cut that sees Dumont link up with New Jersey artist Roland Clark. With no fewer than six collaborations across the LP, “The Fear” and “Nightcrawler” then feature US singer, songwriter and pianist Niia and Australian duo Say Lou Lou respectively.

The second half of the record is where Dumont’s more introspective and personal tracks blossom. There is an appearance from Colorado singer-singer songwriter How to Dress Well on “Together,” before latest single “Let Me Go” an emotion-drenched track stitched together with the soaring vocals of Australian artist Ry X, closes things out in the most poignant way possible.

The ten-track release is a long-player in the traditional sense, produced to be listened to in its entirety, rather than a collection of radio-friendly singles. Besides his own production and vocal features, the album incorporates live string arrangements, guitar players, drummers, and piano keys.

A production dynamo responsible for a stunning back catalogue that includes international chart-topping hits, multi-Grammy nominations and bumpin’ Chicago-influenced underground productions, Dumont is a contemporary electronic music powerhouse. He has amassed over 2.5 billion streams across his back-catalogue of previous anthems, scoring platinum-selling UK #1s with timeless records such as “Ocean Drive.”

A career-affirming release, DUALITY is a staggering album and the culmination of all of Duke Dumont’s previous work.

His illustrious career has taken him on tour around the world, many times over, and placed him in the top tier of electronic music artists of his ilk.

Since 2007 Duke Dumont has channeled his deep love for electronic music into a variety of acclaimed releases, moving through pumping electro and vibrant techno to conquer the UK charts with “Need U 100%.” His early releases on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings helped establish his reputation for producing high quality club music that moves the dance floor, physically and emotionally. By 2012 he’d produced two career-defining EPs – For Club Use, Vol 1 and For Club Use, Vol 2. Tracks like “The Giver” cemented Dumont’s rep for catchy hooks, precision arrangement and powerful emotion. A year later he hit the No.1 spot in the UK charts with “Need U (100%) (featuring A*M*E),” demonstrating his ability to merge classic house motifs with first-rate songwriting.

“Need U (100%)” was followed with another UK No.1 “I Got U,” both songs achieving platinum sales. Between 2013 and 2020 he hit the Billboard Dance Chart No.1 with seven singles, including “The Power,” “Won’t Look Back” and “Ocean Drive.” With each release Duke Dumont stayed true to his club roots, achieving widespread success.

Ashton Travis × Chase B – “CASINO”

ASHTON TRAVIS & CHASE B RELEASE NEW SINGLE “CASINO”

LISTEN HERE

“The song is its own acid trip of pure feeling, melody and memory…equally forlorn and uplifting. It’s a vibe that keeps you undoubtedly on edge, in the best way.”

“Ashton Travis has the buttery vocals that could make just about anything sound appealing.”

“Armed with a sharp, melodic set of deliveries, the liveliness and determination behind this offering act as an unbreakable foundation for Travis’ career.”

ABOUT ASHTON TRAVIS:
Ashton Travis is from the best city in the world. He knows he’s biased, but the charming poet-turned-singer from Houston, TX is more than sentimental about his hometown—he has the facts to make his case. “Houston has a strong style and culture, from music, to food, style, the cars we drive, and some of the most beautiful black people in the world; We’re champions in sports, and we put out legendary music acts from DJ Screw to Beyonce to Ashton Travis,” he boasts. To Ashton, being from Houston means having an ear for “slow, loud and banging” beats oozing from the stereos of unhurried cars on gravel roads—vehicles affectionately known as slabs. In that regard, Ashton’s sound is uniquely Houston. You feel it just as much as you hear it, his catchy, soulful melodies over atmospheric production firmly rooting him within a legacy of music talent from the city.

Born to parents from Guyana and Antigua, Ashton was a curious kid with a wandering mind. His father brought him to barbershops where he would see the old school Cadillacs and hear the bass-heavy chopped and screwed hip-hop so quintessential to Houston. Growing up in their Seventh-day Adventist household, Ashton went to church every weekend and followed the Sabbath. With friends, he played basketball, rode bikes along the bayous, and made pseudo professional mixtapes that they would burn to CDs and pass around. A poet at heart, Ashton was a member of the city’s National Poetry Slam team and grew up writing stanzas before turning his focus to lyrics. After watching his cousin make beats on Fruity Loops, he was encouraged to write raps.

For Ashton, his curiosity was rooted in a desire to see the world. Ashton went to Howard University, making a name for himself on campus before dropping out to pursue music full-time. His wanderlust took him to Los Angeles and New York City, but forging a path as an artist wasn’t without its challenges. Fast forward to today, and Ashton is more confident than ever in his gift. A self-described overthinker, Ashton’s songs explore the complexities of relationships and the depths of his mind, from dreams to aspirations, fears and insecurities. “I want people to empathize because I feel like I’m empathizing through my music—I’m talking not just for myself,” he says.

Ashton’s debut EP Almost There is born from the perspective of someone seeing life with new eyes. “Since that day, it’s like I’ve been reborn or something,” he says about a recent encounter with death that shed new light on his life. Single “Death Row”, an excavation and release of inner demons left unaddressed, speaks most clearly to Ashton’s newfound outlook. “I’ve overthought a lot of things and I’ve held myself back from different opportunities because I’ve been living in my mind, worried, focusing on what could be,” he confesses. “With the music I have now, it just feels like a collection of songs that scream I’m here, I’m alive, I’m happy to be alive, and I’ma talk about shit that moves my spirit, hoping that it moves the next person’s spirit that listens to it because we ain’t got all day. We could be dead tomorrow.”

Tracking COVID-19 Via Social Media

Apple and Google announced plans to work together to provide tools that will help track the spread of coronavirus using apps that allow digital contact tracing and notification via Bluetooth. Social media reacted with tens of thousands of mentions of the collaboration within the first hour, according to international social media analytics firm Talkwalker.

In just one hour after the announcement, there were 34k mentions of the collaboration, Talkwalker reported. This excitement was best explained by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who stated that he and Apple CEO, Tim Cook are “committed to working together on these efforts.” His tweet received 10k engagements in the first 2 hours of posting and had an 8/10 trending score.

Sentiment analysis shows people reacted positively to the privacy controls that would be built into the apps. Worries about civil liberties were more neutral and there was also a generally positive reaction to what this could mean for the public health as a whole.

Tim Cook’s tweet announcing the collaboration has received 44k engagements. Sundar Pichai’s has received 35k engagements so far.

The companies stressed the privacy controls they would use to exclude sensitive geolocation data. Overall the term “privacy” generated 16k mentions within the conversation.

And Apple and Google weren’t alone among brands doing good.

Among the other companies trending this week are:

NBA H.O.R.S.E tournament by State Farm: Donating $200,000 to COVID-19 relief efforts, State Farm brought back sports, at least a little bit. The tournament generated 20k mentions within a day of being announced, Talkwalker reported.

SNL at home: SNL’s fully at home episode generated 55k mentions. According to Talkwalker, sentiment analysis showed that of those conversations 23% were positive and 24% were negative – right in line with host Tom Hanks’ expectations.

Allstate and American Family are sending refunds to policy holders who are driving less. This is a very small conversation – just 2k mentions in the last 30 days. But the news has generated nearly 500k engagements as lots of people are excited by the possibility, Talkwalker reported. Here’s one sample interaction.

The Untitled Space is pleased to present “NO END TO LOVE” a limited time Artsy online exclusive exhibit of works on paper by artist Fahren Feingold, launching on April 14th, and on view through April 30, 2020. While the exhibition is live all artworks are an additional 19% off list price. New works will be added daily!

Watercolor artist Fahren Feingold imparts an ethereal quality to her unique works depicting the female form. Her watercolors featuring bold feminine nudes reference imagery from early 20th century French erotica, vintage American magazines from the 70s and 80s, and today’s Internet girls. The Los Angeles native moved to New York at the age of seventeen to study at the Parsons School of Design. After earning her BFA between Parsons and Glasgow School of Art, she worked as a fashion designer for top brands including Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller, and J.Crew, among others. In 2016, her dreamy watercolors caught the eye of the legendary Nick Knight, who commissioned her to illustrate Paris Fashion Week for SHOW Studio. Since then, her work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions including “Moving Kate,” curated by Nick Knight for the SHOW Studio in London and The Mass in Tokyo; “The Vulgar” at The Barbican in London, curated by Judith Clark and Adam Phillips; “Red Hot Wicked” at Studio C Gallery in Los Angeles; as well as The Untitled Space group shows “UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN” and “SECRET GARDEN” curated by Indira Cesarine and “LIFEFORCE” curated by Kelsey and Remy Bennett.

Celebrated as “a trailblazing artist on a meteoric rise” by Vogue, her watercolors have steadily gained recognition from collectors and critics alike for their sensitive, dreamlike colors, graceful brush strokes, and rendition of the female nude. Through her erotic depictions, Feingold gives new voices to women of the past and present while exploring larger notions of women in contemporary society. She had a solo show curated by Indira Cesarine at The Untitled Space in September of 2017, as well as a solo show presented by the gallery in collaboration with brand Fleur du Mal in 2018 titled “The Peep Show”. Her work was featured at SPRING/BREAK Art Show in both the “EDEN” (2019) and “(Hotel) XX” (2018) exhibitions presented by The Untitled Space, and was recently featured at Sotheby’s New York for the annual “Take Home A Nude” benefit exhibit and auction in October 2019.

PREVIOUS EXHIBITIONS NOW ON VIEW ONLINE

INDIRA CESARINE “THE LABYRINTH”

Indira Cesarine created an immersive installation featuring photography, sculpture, video art, and mixed media works. The gallery was transformed into a maze through which viewers could experience her contemporary female gaze on Surrealism, a theme the artist has been exploring through a variety of mediums over the past several decades. “THE LABYRINTH” is a surreal odyssey that reveals through its passages a kaleidoscopic universe of subconscious realities bound by the contrasts of hyperrealism and ethereal symbolism. “THE LABYRINTH” explores the juxtaposition of contrasting opposites, dimension, distortion, and the power of light to engage and reflect on our own stream of consciousness while provoking the tangibility of perceived realities. The result is a journey through our fantasies and expectations, rendered through the lens of dreams and desires. “THE LABYRINTH” exhibition and installation feature Cesarine’s most recent body of work, as well as select works from her “Goddess”, “Les Fleurs du Mal”, “Pandora’s Box” and “ONLY YOU” series. Experience the works online in our viewing room!

JESSICA LICHTENSTEIN “DO THEY MAKE A SOUND?”

For SPRING/BREAK Art Show 2020, Lichtenstein’s immersive installation ponders the question, “If a tree falls in the forest, do they make a sound?” The exhibition presented a forest scene, with trees falling and leaves, in the form of female figures, scattering. The viewer became fully engaged in her conceptual landscape which featured snippets of news carved into the trees like love notes. The floor became a reflection of the scene with paper leaves in the shape of girls echoing statements as well as the voices, the “sounds” of these women. To create her environment the artist built the landscape with layers upon layers of images, a bombardment of colors and characters. The viewer was able to explore and discover unique details throughout the scene that played with notions of perception, including hidden moments and words that with closer view reveal themselves.

NICHOLE WASHINGTON “REBELLIOUS BLACK GIRL”

Nichole Washington is a visual artist known for her mixed media artworks exploring feminine strength, spirituality and identity. In 2016 she graduated from School of Visual Arts where she earned a master’s degree in digital photography. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions across the United States including the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. In 2017 she was one of ten recipients of the Enfoco Photography Fellowship. Washington’s work is featured in the inaugural issue of “MFON: Women Photographers of the African Diaspora” and has been featured in several benefit auctions including The Heliotrope Foundation, Groundswell and Art4Equality. Her work has been exhibited in a number of group shows at The Untitled Space including BODY BEAUTIFUL, IRL: Investigating Reality, ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE, and SHE INSPIRES.

In her latest exhibition, Nichole Washington pushes the boundaries of her identity by creating portraits that are bold, non-conforming and liberated. She uses manipulated photographs and bold paint strokes to figuratively and literally break out of “the box” of normative behavior. Through this process she creates super-heroine characters that exist in an imagined space meant for healing and transformation.

The Covid-19 Effect on Cryptocurrency

Delta.App CEO: Investors Going Back into Crypto as a Hedge Against Depreciating Dollar

In a recent interview with InsideBitcoins.com Delta.App Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Van Hoorde revealed that investors were going back to digital assets as a hedge against the depreciating dollar. According to Hoorde, this is a reaction towards the current market uncertainty.

All sectors facing volatility.

During the interview, the chief executive officer noted that there is extreme market volatility across all sectors. According to Hoorde:
“However, we are seeing some investors on eToro going back into crypto as a hedge against a depreciating dollar, caused by the unlimited quantitative easing measures the US Fed announced a couple of weeks ago.”

Ahead of the upcoming Bitcoin halving event, the chief executive noted even with the halving process, Bitcoin and the crypto sector remains volatile. Hoorde affirmed that with maturity concerning regulations and increased adoption rate it will be much easier for people to understand the crypto sector.

On Facebook’s Libra project, Hoorde stated that he was confident the social networking giant would enter the cryptocurrency space but after meeting all regulatory requirements.

Hoorde also commented on institutional investors joining the crypto sector. He asserted that institutional investors are increasingly taking part in the digital asset sector based on the fact that the ‘wild west’ period for the crypto market seems to be over. Already central banks are carrying out studies on how the full blockchain potential can be unlocked.

Parenting Kids During Covid-19

12 TIPS FOR PARENTING YOUNG KIDS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

After the overwhelming response to our recent newsletter about at-home learning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Children and Screens has teamed up with some of the top experts in the fields of parenting, education, and child psychology to bring you a new series of helpful hints and common-sense suggestions for navigating the uncertain days and weeks ahead. Raising young kids can be tricky, even under the best of circumstances, but as our experts share here, adaptability, patience, and understanding are the keys to ensuring healthy growth and relationship building during this crucial time in your child’s development.

Check out these 12 tips for parents of young children below, and be sure to tune in to the first installment of our upcoming interactive webinar series on April 27, when our panel of experts will chat about healthy screen habits for kids ages 5 and under and answer your questions via Zoom. RSVP here.

DON’T FEEL GUILTY
We know you’re stretched thin and doing your best to manage a whole host of issues, so please don’t feel guilty if your kids are engaging in more screen time than you’d typically allow. There are so many wonderful educational resources out there, even for very young children, and we recommend making the most of them (and getting other family members involved where possible). The use of video chat on a regular basis is also highly recommended to maintain social ties with friends and family members. – Dr. Sarah M. Coyne, PhD, Professor Associate Director, School of Family Life Brigham Young University

ROLE WITH IT
Both you and your children will need time to adjust to your new roles. In one fell swoop, you’ve become a stay-at-home parent, a teacher, and a frontline responder (aka superhero). Be patient with this transition. It may be rocky at first, but children are adaptable and will thrive with well-intentioned efforts. – Kara Bagot, MD, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Department of Psychiatry

REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE
With social distancing in full effect, it’s impossible for toddlers to get the kind of in-person attention they’d normally receive from friends and family. In order to maintain those tactile connections, it can be helpful to serve as the “hands and heart” for your loved ones while video chatting. For instance, if Grandpa motions to “tickle” your baby’s tummy, give your child’s tummy a tickle. If Grandma leans toward the screen for a kiss, give your toddler a kiss on the cheek. By taking on this role, you can help nurture the relationship between the child and their loved ones on screen. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

GAME ON
When video chatting with young children, try rhymes, songs, dancing, finger plays, and games like peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek. The more toddlers can participate in screen time, the more they’ll get out of it. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

TALK TALK TALK
Be a part of your young child’s screen time. Sitting with them, holding them, and, most importantly, talking to them are all important ways to help children learn and feel safe. Make a game out of describing what different characters on the screen are doing. Point and label the objects and people that appear in the videos you watch. Sharing screen time can be an excellent opportunity to talk with and engage your toddler. – Ellen Wartella, Director of the Center on Media and Human Development, Northwestern University

ONE MORE TIME!
It’s OK if your child wants to watch the same show or series over and over again. Children learn more with each repetition of a book or a song, and the same goes for screen media. The more children watch the same show or play the same game, the more they understand the storyline and educational content. – Alexis R. Lauricella, Associate Professor and Director of the Technology in Early Childhood (TEC) Center, Erikson Institute

PAJAMA DAY (ONLY 1X/WEEK)
In anxious times, kids benefit from predictability and daily structure. As best as you can, maintain a basic schedule for things like meals, self-care, schoolwork, and screen time. Invite them to help you make and decorate a weekly schedule, and be sure to include some fun ideas for joint parent/kid break times. – Meredith Gansner, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Cambridge Health Alliance

READY, SET, PLAY!
It’s a good time for all of us, kids and adults to like, to PLAY. Put on music and dance! Work on a puzzle, break out a board game! Grab those Legos and build a castle! Don’t forget how to have fun with your little ones. – Elizabeth K. Englander, PhD Director, Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center, Bridgewater State University

ONE SIZE DOESN’T FIT ALL
Understand that there are developmental differences between children of different ages. Homeschooling a kindergartener will be very different than homeschooling a seventh grader. While younger children may need you to keep a closer eye on them, older and more independent kids can set goals and check in with you on their progress. – Colleen Kraft, MD

STAY CONNECTED
Physical objects and activities can help bridge the gaps presented by social distancing. When video chatting, encourage your child’s screen partner to read a favorite book while the child follows along with his or her own copy. Invite the video partner to play with a toy car while your child rolls around in their own. Puppets and stuffed animals are great props for playing together virtually, and sharing a snack together is always a favorite for young children. Joint activities will help your kids stay connected with their on-screen partners. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE INTERACTIVE
Screen time isn’t inherently good or bad; what matters is how we choose to use it. Screens can take us to the zoo, guide us through the great museums of the world, and keep us fit with healthy movement games. Make the most of the current situation by finding active, engaging, meaningful, fun, and socially interactive choices to invest in. – Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Ph.D Temple University, senior fellow Brookings Institution; author Becoming Brilliant

BORED IN THE USA
Not only is it OK to be bored, it’s beneficial! These days, we’re all so constantly bombarded with stimulation and entertainment that we’re left with little time to explore our own thoughts and dreams. Let’s use this time to develop that important skill, and to appreciate the healthy power of boredom. – Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Ph.D Temple University, senior fellow Brookings Institution; author Becoming Brilliant

At the end of the day, nothing is more important than making sure your child feels safe, nourished, and loved. It won’t always be easy, but we hope parents can incorporate these 12 tips, along with a little extra kindness and creativity, as they adjust to their new roles and make the most out of the unexpected.

For more tips, and to have your questions answered by experts, don’t forget to register for our virtual workshop here.

Lila Iké – I Spy

One of Jamaica’s fastest rising stars Lila Iké storms into 2020 with “I Spy,” her first single and video this year. Watch/Listen to “I Spy” HEREOn the heels of her freshly-inked signing to RCA Records—in conjunction with In.Digg.Nation Collective and Six Course Records —“I Spy” is Lila Iké’s inaugural single through the major label and serves as a prelude to her debut 7-track EP The ExPerience, which will be released May 15.

The making of “I Spy” was an organic process which is akin to how Lila naturally creates. IzyBeats, who earned a GRAMMY award for his contribution to Koffee’s “Toast,” is at the helm of the song. “When Izy played the beat in the studio I just heard this ‘chek, chek’ and then this specific drum pattern that is familiar in Jamaican culture, so I started pacing the room and singing the chorus ‘I Spy, I Spy.’ Izy was like ‘Oh my god, that is it!’ I felt his energy, so it pushed me to go further and it blossomed into what it is today. I am really excited how it turned out and confident it will open new markets for me. It is going to be beautiful.”

The accompanying video is directed by Danny Williams and was filmed in Kingston, Jamaica with cameos from her crew including labelmate Sevana, Jaz Elise and Naomi Cowan.

Also joining Lila Iké on her anticipated EP The ExPerience is a cast of Jamaica’s most in-demand producers. Phillip “Winta” James, known for his work with Protoje, Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Mortimer, produced “Forget Me” and “Stars Align.”  A trio of the island’s most promising young beatmakers, Ziah x JLL x Iotosh, are responsible for “Solitude.” Behind the boards is also GRAMMY-nominated artist Protoje, who executive produced The ExPerience, and is credited for crafting the sound of “Thy Will,” which is influenced by Sly and Robbie’s “More Baltimore.”

In 2019, the multi-talented Lila Iké ascended through a string of songs that fused contemporary reggae with elements of soul, hip-hop, and dancehall. “Where I’m Coming From” (produced by Kasadie “Caspa” Jones) and “Second Chance” (produced by Alfred Simpson) were two pivotal songs that put the songstress on the map. Both tracks will be featured on her upcoming EP. With only a handful of singles under her belt, she has earned critical acclaim fromComplex, BBC 1xtra, NYLON, Flaunt, Essence, The FADER and Refinery29 as an artist to watch. While on tour with Protoje, she left a lasting impression on audiences at Reggae Sumfest (Montego Bay, Jamaica), and BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! (NYC, USA), plus she commanded the spotlight on Europe’s most-coveted reggae stages, including her own primetime slot at the genre’s largest worldwide festival Rototom Sunsplash (Benicassim, Spain).

The spotlight shines brighter on Lila Iké as she pivots from Jamaica’s independent singing sensation to global superstardom guided by her natural talents, co-signed by In.Digg.Nation Collective, Six Course Records and RCA Records. Lila Iké’s endearing tone can be felt in every word she sings, displaying equal amounts of vulnerability and dominance in her signature vibrato. While her early hits are foundational elements of her debut, The ExPerience is lush with a wave of new anthems that tread through the thick, potent smoke of introspection and intimacy. “Solitude” relishes silence and peace-of-mind in a sea of a wobbling bass and whisks of guitar and violin. On “Stars Align,” Lila Iké creatively juggles relationships as a metaphor for music-making while spraying her lyrics like a fresh coat of paint on Winta James’ “Bout Noon” beat, originally sung by Protoje.

“It is an experience of me, showing my versatility and the different tones, values and vibes of a woman,” Lila says about her debut EP. “This is a mixture of songs influenced by reggae, but it does not define the sound. It has trap dancehall on “Where I’m Coming From” and soulful vibes on “Forget Me.” It gets sweet and jazzy on “Stars Align” and “I Spy” has this reggaeton and pop feel. It is a beautiful time for this kind of music to come from Jamaica, we are showing people there is no linear way of anything,” declares Lila Iké.

Lila Iké will reveal the artwork for her debut EP The ExPerience at a later date.

Her new single “I Spy” is available now on all platforms.
