Bastille – Shut Off the Lights

Bastille unveils the official video for their latest single “Shut Off The Lights”—watch HERE. In the feel-good video, which made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live and MTVU, people are disconnected from their devices, unplugged from their digital “innerverses”, and forced to reconnect IRL—resulting in an infectious office dance party celebrating the importance of human connection.

Dan Smith says, “We wanted to make something that reflected the euphoria and the fun of the song. The track is a moment of humanity, normality, and intimacy on the album, so a video celebrating small funny moments in the day seemed to make sense. Plus, it just makes us want to dance, so it seemed only right to get that in there too.”

“Shut Off The Lights” is taken from Bastille‘s upcoming fourth studio album, Give Me The Future, out February 4th. The song has received widespread praise from Billboard, Clash Magazine, DIY, Dork, Entertainment Tonight, NME, Rolling Stone UK, V Magazine, and more, with Billboard proclaiming, “Bastille has not-so-quietly developed into one of the most consistent mainstream pop-rock acts working today, building their alternative-leaning songs around Dan Smith’s booming voice but shifting their focus often enough to avoid repetition,” and V Magazine declaring, “‘Shut Off the Lights’ might just be the highest they’ve ever gone.”

To celebrate the upcoming album, Bastille recently announced their 2022 US tour dates as part of their upcoming “Give Me The Future Tour.” The US leg kicks off on May 14th in Memphis, TN and makes stops in Los Angeles on May 20th, New York on June 7th, and more. Tickets are on sale now HERE

Next week, Bastille will perform a series of intimate outstore shows across the UK, in partnership with the UK’s independent record stores. Then in April, the band will return to arenas for the first leg of their tour (with many dates already sold out) before heading out to the US for dates in May and June.

Give me the Future

Laced with references to sci-fi films and literature, video games and VR, Bastille’s new album Give Me The Future explores a futuristic wonderland free from restrictions—each song a different danceable dreamscape, a place where you can travel back and forward in time to be anyone, do anything, and embrace a new wave of technology, which enables us to get lost inside our imagination.

It’s a record that takes the idea of the limitless possibilities of the future and journeys everywhere from a joyride of escapism on the uplifting “Thelma + Louise,” a tribute to the iconic feminist film on its 20th anniversary,!to 80’s New York with the artist Keith Haring on the bright and whistling “Club 57” to a hospital bed in Australia for the devastating but hopeful “No Bad Days.” You’ll hear disco basslines, orchestras of synths, guitars, futuristic gospel, spaceship sounds, euphoric strings, vocoders, talk boxes, a choir of roadies, and host of beats. The title track “Give Me The Future” tips its hat to Phil Collins and The Police, “Shut Off The Lights” is a sonic love letter to Paul Simon’s Graceland, and “Stay Awake” nods to Daft Punk and Quincy Jones.

Having thrown themselves into co-writing for other artists in recent years, for the first time ever on a Bastille album, the band inched open the door to collaborators. Although primarily produced by Dan Smith and long-term production partner Mark Crew, the band also worked with a handful of writers and producers to expand the world. “Distorted Light Beam” was co-written and produced with Ryan Tedder (Adele, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift), who also helped as a sounding board and executive producer for the album. “Thelma + Louise,” “Stay Awake,” and “Back To The Future” were co-written with legendary songwriter Rami Yacoub (Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time”, Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Album). They also worked with British writers Jonny Coffer, Plested, and Dan Priddy to bring the album to life.

You’ll also hear the voice of award-winning actor, musician, writer, creator, producer, director, and activist Riz Ahmed on a spell-binding and evocative spoken word piece called “Promises.” Riz’s piece was a response to the album and brings its overarching themes into sharp focus.

Over the course of their previous three albums, Bastille have cemented a reputation for building whole worlds around their releases, often doing so with innovative, award-winning creativity. Give Me The Future is no different, this time accompanied by a fictional, but familiar, tech giant called Future Inc., the creators of an invention called “Futurescape”—a device which allows users to live out their dreams virtually. It’s weaved through every element of the campaign and can be seen in the videos for the previous singles—”Distorted Light Beam,” “Thelma + Louise,” and “No Bad Days.”

Andy Grammer – Joy

Acclaimed multi-platinum pop singer and songwriter Andy Grammer has released “Joy,” an emotion-filled new track via Giant Soul/S-Curve/Hollywood Records.

Andy, who is known for engaging, energizing and empowering audiences across the world with his chart-topping radio hits, takes listeners through experiences of fear, doubt, sorrow, grief, pressure, jealousy and shame before finally finding joy as evidenced in the new track’s hook, “I found joy, yeah she opened up my eyes and gave me wings and halo rings and taught me how to fly.”

On the inspiration for the song, Andy said:

“I have always loved the word ‘Joy.’ I feel like it has a depth, a grounded spiritual center, something deeper and more substantial than happiness. It’s somehow light and weighty at the same time. I wanted to capture all that while still having a party and I think we did.”

Honored with another reason to rejoice, Andy has recently reached an unprecedented milestone. He officially stands out as the No. 1 “Happy Pop” Streaming Artist and has registered over 3 billion artist streams. This accolade has been buoyed by the runaway success of recent tracks “Lease On Life,” which Andy created under the inspiration of a newfound perspective he gained during the pandemic and has generated over 30 million total streams, “Damn It Feels Good To Be Me,” a genre-bending single that was written about boldly owning your individuality, and “Love Myself,” Andy‘s latest release which is about the importance of loving and accepting yourself. All of these songs are building towards a bigger vision for Andy’s fifth full-length album due out in late 2022.

Andy will also kick off The Art of Joy Tour on Friday, February 4 at Resorts World in Monticello, NY. The first leg of the tour includes 18 dates with stops in Cleveland, Boston, New York, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco and more.

A second leg of the tour, which kicks off Tuesday, May 31 at Paramount Theatre in Austin, was also just announced with 17 new dates including stops in Dallas, Nashville, Cincinnati, Atlanta and more. VIP packages and tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 1 and Friday, February 4 respectively at 10 AM local time and can be purchased HERE.

Quinn Teechma via otter pr for use by 360 magazine

Quinn Teechma

Quinn Teechma, actress, photographer, and Miss Universe Canada 2022 finalist, often marvels at how social media has made our world so much larger and so much smaller at the same time.

Quinn is well aware of how large the world can be, but how small it seems when making connections with people.

Quinn’s extensive travel, beginning in early childhood, has shaped her worldview and informed her approach to supporting the myriad of platforms championed by the Miss Universe Canada organization.

A World View from an Early Age

Quinn considers herself fortunate to have been given a chance to travel the world from the tender age of one year old. Her parents embraced learning about different cultures and set out to give their children real-world experience.

“I believe seeing and learning about other cultures has brought awareness to my perspective,” explains Quinn.

The sometimes stark reality experienced by other children worldwide stayed with Quinn. Knowing what chances others may not have, Quinn set out to work hard on her various goals and provide well for herself and her family.

She was inspired in other ways as well, knowing that wherever her life led her, she wanted to give back.

“I will never forget walking the streets of Nepal with my father when I was 12 years old,” remembers Quinn, “I saw children sleeping in garbage piles, saw them sniffing bottles of glue. At the time, I didn’t understand the concept of getting high, but it still impacted me. It inspired me to work hard to build a platform for myself, so I could effect change on a global scale,” said Quinn.

You’ve Come a Long Way

The pageant world often attracts a bad rap, one that Quinn fully acknowledges, yet she cautions people against believing the negative talk regarding pageantry.

“Beauty pageants have come a long way. It’s not just about being skinny and curling your hair,” she says, “These days pageants have evolved. It’s about what you stand for. What causes are important to you, what difference are you making in our society.”

The evolution of the pageant circuit was a draw for Quinn, who was attracted to their support for various platforms that helped people in Canada and around the world. Remembering what she had learned through her childhood travels, Quinn knew she could reach a global audience for causes close to her heart through the pageant.

The Miss Universe Canada pageant elevates causes such as Operation Smile, SOS Children’s Villages, and Habitat for Humanity.

Empowering Women

Closest to Quinn’s heart are platforms that work towards empowering girls and women.

“My true passion is helping everyday women feel like the queens they are,” Quinn says. She opened her boudoir photography studio in hopes of helping women fall back in love with themselves and their bodies.

Much like boudoir photography helps women embrace their beauty, inside and out, Quinn feels the Miss Universe Canada organization does the same.

“Pageants inspire millions of young girls across the universe to be better and do better,” she says.

Actively inspiring women to actively promote positive change in the world is one of the most important aspects of the Miss Universe Canada pageant and pageants in general. Pageants often encourage women to look inward and to build self-awareness and confidence. This developed tenacity that pageants give women allows them to spread confidence to others through their various platforms.

Quinn Teechma has built a life of service and empowering her fellow women with inspiration sparked by world travels. Her worldview and experiences have led her to know herself better.

“Knowing oneself and standing tall with confidence is the most powerful tool you can have stepping into the real world.”

Black Ice via Elliot Stares PR for use by 360 Magazine

Black Ice

On February 29th, 2020, Akwasi Frimpong became the first Skeleton athlete from Africa to win an elite Skeleton race sanctioned by the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation in Park City, Utah. From a one room hut in Ghana to the Netherlands at age eight, where he became a professional track athlete before suffering a career-ending Achilles’ injury, the remarkable story of his lifelong dream is now being told in a short film depicting unwavering persistence and desire that holds up a torch of hope and inspiration for an entire continent, as Akwasi campaigns to compete at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing this February.

In association with Hungry Man productions, the Swiss sportswear company, On, presents “Black Ice”, an original short film written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Richard Bullock. The film uniquely combines live-action footage, graphic design, and animation. Depicting Akwasi’s humble origins, growth, and arduous journey which forges his resilient spirit and ultimately transforms him into a symbol of modern Africa, Black Ice can now be seen HERE.

Developed over six months and with filmed excerpts on-location across Europe and Africa, Black Ice brings the pages of a graphic comic book to life through the eyes of the children it aims to inspire. An athletes’ strength and determination in the face of lifelong adversity is unraveled within a portrayal of Akwasi’s journey, presented as a chronology of his life up until the present day that presents a symbol of bravery and courage for the entire African population.

The film centers around a graphic novel that is initially pulled from the bag of a schoolboy with Black Ice as the title, showing an iron clad superhero on the cover depicted as Akwasi. His inquisitive sister reads along with him, and their voices become the narration for the story. They read from the graphic novel aloud and together they follow Akwas’ real-life journey as viewers are taken on a visual expedition.

“Black Ice comprises of a highly original storytelling technique that is the sum of its live action and drawn elements that is rarely seen in a filmed production of this nature,” says Feliciano Robayna, Executive Producer and Head of Sports Marketing at On. “For a long time Akwasi’s dream was simply to make it to the Olympics. Despite all the setbacks, he soon saw the power of his achievements and what they could mean for Africa. He was no longer competing only for himself or a country, but for an entire continent. At the forthcoming Winter Olympics, a billion people can see in him the proof that with self-belief, strength and dedication you can pursue and fulfil your lifelong dreams.”

After speaking with Akwasi, director Richard Bullock decided to approach the story in a completely different way. “Instead of a script or storyboard I wrote out his story in the form of a graphic novel. I handed that to my illustrator who was tasked to bring it to life as a printed graphic novel,” said Bullock. “The book itself has become a character in the film and it forced the filmmakers to think differently about all aspects of the production. “It’s uncomfortable and new for all of us,” was the response. Probably what Akwasi felt like the first time he slid headfirst down an ice run at 90 miles an hour.”

While Akwasi’s life feels like the original story of a fictional superhero, it is all fact. As a child, his grandmother whispered into his ear at bedtime: “What you need for success is already in you. It is a matter of believing in yourself, having the will to work hard and never giving up.”

After moving to Holland to join his mother at 8 years-old, the former Olympian, Sammy Monsels, watches over Akwasi and ignites the Olympic flame of desire within him. Akwasi reacts by making the Olympics his one true ambition as a rapidly growing track athlete. At age 16, Akwasi becomes the Dutch National 200m champion, despite being unable to travel to European competitions due to his citizenship status. Akwasi is accepted into the Johan Cruyff School and works tirelessly to become International Student of the Year. While training for the 2012 London Olympics, Akwasi ruptures his Achilles tendon, putting his Olympic ambitions in danger. While recovering, Akwasi considers his options, applies to American colleges and is accepted into Utah Valley University, where he would graduate with honors in Business Studies.

With Utah being such a cold mountainous climate that was ideal for Winter sports, and after meeting the Dutch national team, Akwasi was invited to try his hand as a brakeman on the Bobsleigh team. Akwasi surprisingly came within one place of making it to the Sochi Winter Games in 2014, which re-ignited his desire to become an Olympian. Akwasi decided to turn to a different sport and took part in a Skeleton trial which he exceled at. In pursuit of his Olympic goal, he focused on his new skill and defied all expectations by qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Akwasi became the first black male Skeleton athlete in Olympic history. He decided to become the hunter instead of the hunted and this self-determination allowed him to be the first African athlete to win an elite Skeleton race sanctioned by the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. Akwasi realized a new Olympic dream and would soon become an even stronger, more dangerous competitor with his sights set on the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. He also wanted to dream for the people of his continent.

In 2008, Akwasi chose a helmet with a lion holding a rabbit in its mouth. The image, he said, represented the story of his life: the rabbit running from the lion that threatened his survival and success. It became a design inspired from his past. However, in stark contrast, his new suit and helmet put him in the role of the hunter and no longer the prey. And rather than wrapped in his African heritage, it was a helmet designed with eyes firmly fixed on the future. His new suit is now inspired by Afrofuturist themes of modernity, technology and innovation. Spray painted on the front of his helmet, laser focused eyes look ahead, while on the back of his helmet is his own personal mission, “Hope of a Billion.” Through his actions, Akwasi Frimpong wants to inspire all Africans.

Akwasi became the first male African skeleton racer to compete at the Olympics in 2018 thanks to the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation‘s (IBSF) continental quota system. The system was dropped by the IOC for next month’s Beijing Olympics, dampening the hopes of any African athletes competing. Frimpong tested positive for Covid-19 on December 29, while preparing for his last three Olympic qualification races in Altenberg, Germany. This gave his qualification for the Olympic Games a crushing blow, despite being ranked only three places below the top 60 needed for qualification. Since then, Akwasi and his team have been campaigning with the IOC to allow Akwasi his chance to compete in Beijing, representing his nation of Ghana as the only African nation represented in the Skeleton. This request to the IOC was recently denied, sparking an outcry of public support for his plight.

To help him perform his best at upcoming competitions, Akwasi will be wearing On’s exclusive shoe designed specifically for professional bobsleigh and skeleton athletes.

Zenzile: The Reimagination of Miriam Makeba

On March 4, 2022, GRAMMY-nominated vocalist, and songwriter Somi will release her new album, Zenzile: The Reimagination Of Miriam Makeba, a celebration of the late Makeba‘s invaluable musical contributions and messages of social justice. The album, which will be released on the artist’s Salon Africana label, features Somi’s renditions of some of Makeba’s best-known songs, both Makeba’s own compositions and covers. This updated release date honors Makeba on what would have been her 90th birthday. On March 19, Somi will celebrate the release of this monumental album at the historic Apollo Theater. More information can be found HERE. Watch the powerful music video for the lead single, “Pata Pata”, HERE and check out Somi’s fresh take on “Milele”, the second single featuring Seun Kuti and Thandiswa Mazwai, HERE.

Regarded as one of Africa’s first international superstars, Makeba (whose given name is ‘Zenzile’) elevated the spirit of a continent, including her native South Africa. Her courage, however, was met with three decades of political exile from her homeland followed by blacklisting in the United States after her marriage to civil rights activist Stokely Carmichael. Somi’s lifelong love of Makeba’s music and personal strength led to a record that she hopes will inspire a rediscovery of Makeba’s life and work. Somi adds, “This album is my attempt to honor the unapologetic voice of an African woman who inevitably made room for my own journey and countless other African artists. In short, I owe her. We all do.”

In recognition of Makeba’s resonance throughout Africa and the diaspora, Somi invited a number of special guests to perform on the record. From South Africa, Grammy-winning male vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, singer-songwriter Msaki, vocalist and activist Thandiswa Mazwai, and jazz pianist-composer Nduduzo Makhathini join Somi for the tribute. Guests also include GRAMMY-winning American jazz singer Gregory Porter, Nigerian singer-musician Seun Kuti (Fela Kuti’s youngest son), and GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter and activist, Angelique Kidjo.

To further celebrate the work of Makeba, Somi stars in Dreaming Zenzile, her original musical theater production based on the life of Makeba under the direction of Obie-award winner Lileanna Blain-Cruz. On September 10, this electrifying portrait of Makeba kicked off the ’21-’22 theater season at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep). The rolling world premiere production journeyed on to the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton this month, running January 15 to February 13, and will go on to Arts Emerson in Boston (February 23-27), and then to an Off-Broadway run in New York City co-produced by the National Black Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop and Apollo Theater, all in partnership with Octopus Theatrical in late May. The soul-stirring production includes a live jazz band playing original music and reinterpretations of Makeba’s remarkable catalog while telling the story of her extraordinary life journey.

In addition to Somi’s upcoming album and theater production, 2021 brought the artist her first GRAMMY nomination. Holy Room: Live at the Alte Oper, recorded with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album. The album also won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocal Album.

Late last year, Spotify announced its partnership with Somi as the latest African singer to join its EQUAL Music Program. The EQUAL Music Program is a global initiative that Spotify has created to cultivate gender equality in music and support female creators under one brand. In celebration of the partnership and new music, Somi was featured on a billboard in Times Square.

In addition, Somi was recently featured in “The Arts Interrupted,” an episode of PBS Great Performances that examined artistic challenges and potential for growth during the Covid shutdown.

NBA Meechy Baby – Get in There

Kicking off 2022 with a bang, Meechy Baby unleashes a brand new single and music video entitled “Get in There” via Never Broke Again/Motown. Listen HERE. Watch the music video HERE.

The track hinges on a jaggedly menacing beat fueled by 808s and skittering cymbals as Meechy Baby tears through the production with tenacious verses. It all culminates on a commanding hook, “Get in there.” In the accompanying visual, he turns up next to a luxury SUV as he flows directly into the camera. It hints at his unbridled star power and raw charisma.

He captured the attention of audiences everywhere on last year’s red-hot compilation “Never Broke Again Vol. 1.” Across a stacked track listing, he bodied “Pure Dope” [feat. Rjae & Rojay MLP], “Chippewa,” “Til Da Morning,” “Parking Lot,” and “Cutlass.” Of the latter, HotNewHipHop praised, “Paying ode to the old school car, the rapper brings high energy,” and Rolling Stone noted, “He raps about his lifestyle and his love of the American classic.” He has already amassed over 3 million streams and counting.

However, everything just paves the way for more music from Meechy Baby.
