Reckless in Vegas × SAHARA

Reckless In Vegas, whose utterly distinctive sound offers a modern twist on Vintage Vegas, announced tickets are now on sale for its ongoing engagement at SAHARA Las Vegas, beginning June 30. Performing in the Las Vegas Strip’s fabled resort-casino, which recently completed a $150 million renovation and where Louis Prima, Bobby Darin, Buddy Hackett and Don Rickles once graced the showroom stage, Reckless In Vegas will appear in the SAHARA Las Vegas Theatre on Thursday and Friday evenings at 8:30 PM. Audiences can look forward to rocking out to the power trio’s exhilarating original renditions of beloved classics by the Rat Pack, Elvis Presley and more.

Reckless In Vegas steals audiences away to the bygone days of Las Vegas when the drinks were strong, the entertainers were charismatic and the music was intoxicating. The show combines the imagery, comedic banter, glamorous showgirls and classic music from Sin City’s 1960s “glory days” with a contemporary rock band aesthetic.

Members Michael Shapiro (band founder, lead vocals, guitar), Jack E. Roth (drums) and Chris Nichols (bass, vocals) have created a high-energy show incorporating live performances of modern versions of songs by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, Sonny & Cher, Frankie Valli, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash and Bobby Darin with dynamic production-show elements.

Whether audiences remember the swinging Vegas lounge-era days or were born much later, Reckless In Vegas brings something for everyone. Video montages, dialogue, humor, modern hard-rocking grooves and tender moments of balladry combine to create a truly original take on this classic genre. Think The Rat Pack meets Green Day.

“Performing at the historic—yet completely reimagined—SAHARA Las Vegas on the Las Vegas Strip represents a dream come true for me,” says Shapiro. “There exists no better venue for our band, which reinvents and reinvigorates classic Las Vegas entertainment for contemporary audiences.”

About Michael Shapiro

Shapiro was raised in Las Vegas and, after stints in Oregon and California, returned to his hometown in 2015. He picked up his first instrument at age 13, and trained hard in guitar, vocals, piano and trumpet, attuning his ear to classical opera as well as rock. A chance encounter with a family friend struck the right chord and paved Shapiro’s way into music. At age 16, he had the opportunity to jam with Bruce Springsteen. The rocker’s energetic marathon performances spurred Shapiro to develop a taste for a raucous stage presence. After playing in various cover bands in his teens, Shapiro formed the band Trip, released several albums and toured. Being part of the VH1 Rock Across America Tour, Trip opened for such artists as Edwin McCain, Duncan Sheik, The Romantics and Cheap Trick. It was during an ill-fated gig opening for Great White when a tragic fire struck, that moved Shapiro to deeply reflect on life’s vagaries and whims.

He bounced back, releasing his first solo album, Somehow, Someway, and toured nationally, opening for the alt-rock band Live. After moving to San Rafael, Calif., he formed the power trio: Reckless in Vegas.

Shapiro’s style yields insight into his influences: Jimi Hendrix‘s relentless guitar riffs, Journey‘s Neal Schon, Carlos Santana and the melodic and powerful vocal styling of U2′s Bono

About Jack E. Roth

With more than 35 years’ experience, Roth has played drums and percussion on hundreds of projects associated with major labels and otherwise (including work with MCA, Universal, Interscope, MTV, VH1, Artisan, EA Sports), resulting in an extensive knowledge of playing, recording, production and engineering techniques.

Roth has performed all over the United States, headlining and opening for Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Puddle of Mudd, Chickenfoot, Buckcherry, Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour), Fuel, Living Colour, Trapt, Adelita’s Way, Steel Panther, Deep Dark Robot, Cold, Smashmouth, Danzig, Static-X, Fear Factory, Slaughter, Vince Neil, Dokken, Ratt, Eddie Money, Michael Angelo, Rick Derringer, Michael McDonald, Dennis DeYoung (Styx), The Commodores, The Romantics, Al Stewart, Starship, Berlin, Mark Farmer (Grand Funk), The Family Stone, Pat Travers, Edgar Winter, Canned Heat, Ten Years After, Steppenwolf, Marshall Tucker Band, Three Dog Night, War, The Fixx, Vixen, Shotgun Messiah, Kik Tracee, Gilby Clark, Life, Sex & Death, Bang Tango, Gary Hoey and Love/Hate, among others.

He has also played in backing bands for Randy Jackson (Mariah Carey, Journey, American Idol), Dee Snider, Meat Loaf, Sabastian Bach (Skid Row), Nick St. Nicholas (Steppenwolf), Deborah Gibson, Sheri Belafonte, Frank Hannon (Tesla), Tony Fredianelli (Third Eye Blind), Steve Plunkett (Autograph) and Paul Revere & the Raiders.

Roth is endorsed by Ayotte Drums, Aquarian Drumheads and Gibraltar Hardware and is a proud member of ASCAP.

About Chris Nichols

Born in Newark, Ohio, as the son of a piano teacher, Nichols studied the piano, cello, guitar, drums and bass. His early years led him to Nashville where he toured with several artists throughout the nation. His desire to “Go West” led him to Las Vegas when the mob still owned the town. He saw the Sands and the Dunes casinos fall to their demise. Since moving to Sin City, he has recorded on several records both as an artist and an engineer.  Nichols actually shared the stage with Shapiro in Trip as they ascended to the height of that band’s career. With the help of several bands, he has also shared stages with Willie Nelson, Chris Isaak, Toto, Peter Frampton, Rick James and Lifehouse, to name just a few.

ChargerGoGo, World’s Largest Portable Phone Charging

ChargerGoGo, the world’s leading network of on-demand phone charging systems for commercial venues of all kinds, has now entered the U.S. market. Emerging as an essential amenity at a fast-growing number of businesses, ChargerGoGo’s kiosks may be found at the Las Vegas Convention Center, MGM Grand Garden Arena and AREA15, among hundreds of others. After establishing itself across Asia, where it deployed more than 1 million charging kiosks and attracted more than 360 million users and 20,000 distributors, ChargerGoGo is poised to become the largest shared power bank network in the United States.

Unlike static charging stations, ChargerGoGo allows customers to pick up a portable battery, charge their phones and then return the battery to any nearby ChargerGoGo kiosk, a first-of-its-kind service to debut at this scale. Ideal for installation at restaurants, bars, nightclubs, coffee shops, stadiums, convention centers, hotels, hospitals and retail centers, ChargerGoGo allows users to charge their phones on the go, without wasting time or missing important notifications.

With smartphones now considered essential to daily life, battery life has not kept pace with user consumption. In fact, 80 percent of all phones experience a low battery charge at least once a week while users are away from home, and nine out of 10 people experience “panic mode” when their phone battery goes below 20 percent. This occurrence can result in them leaving the business early, causing potential decreases in revenue. Offering a convenient mobile charging station enables venues to retain these customers and increase sales. 360 Magazine is very impressed by the number of advancements being made in the world to have a better technology outlet.

“One of the most frequent requests our clients receive from customers is to help them charge their phones,” said Chris Meyer, chief executive officer, Chris Meyer Global, a consultancy specializing in the meetings and global trade industries. “Now, ChargerGoGo kiosks enable them to do so effortlessly, easing their minds and allowing them to enjoy their time worry-free while they’re at a meeting and events facility, bar, café, or any other commercial venue.”

In addition to its portable batteries, other features unique to ChargerGoGo include the kiosks’ customizable LED screens that can display the host’s promotional messages and a compact, modern design with custom wrapping options so the host venue can brand them with their logos or other imagery. Another innovative feature distinguishing ChargerGoGo from its competitors: venues that install the kiosks on their premises can earn passive income through the company’s revenue-sharing model.

“Our mission is to improve people’s lives by saving them from constantly dying phones while helping host venues boost sales, grow revenue, and elevate their customer experience,” said June Zhu, founder, ChargerGoGo. “Our vision is to bring ChargerGoGo charging stations to every commercial facility with foot traffic nationwide.”

SWEET SIN via Michael Greer for The Vox Agency for use by 360 Magazine

SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla Opens at the Linq Promenade

Award-winning, internationally acclaimed pastry chef Claude Escamilla has opened an entirely reimagined pastry shop, SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla, at The LINQ Promenade. With an enormous, handcrafted chocolate fountain as its centerpiece, the location represents the first eponymous European-style pastry shop for Escamilla, who previously served as executive pastry chef on the Las Vegas Strip for 17 years. SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla is situated between the entrance to The LINQ Hotel + Experience and Chayo Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar on the Promenade.

SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla boasts new décor, featuring a sleek, white pastry display case handcrafted in Italy and a brilliantly polished, towering chocolate fountain custom-made by elite artisans in France. The chocolate fountain is composed of three, 7-inch-diameter, curvilinear pipes that cross the ceiling, culminating in three taps behind the pastry case. Each tap dispenses a different, irresistible variety of confectionaries—dark chocolate, white chocolate or caramel—which is poured before customers’ eyes onto menu items such as crepes, chocolate-dipped strawberries and hot chocolate.

From the ceiling, more than 50 whisk-shaped pendant lights hang suspended above guests as they browse the shop’s offerings. Adorning the walls are cheerful polka dots in bright hues of raspberry, tangerine, lemon, lime, turquoise and plum, as well as playful phrases spelled out in neon script. Meanwhile, an elaborate, rotating case displays an artistic assortment of 400 handmade macarons in every color of the rainbow, as well as sweet souvenirs and other SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla merchandise.

In addition to macarons and crepes, the shop offers 13 flavors of gelato, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, sweet and savory pastries, a tempting array of homemade European desserts and traditional coffee beverages as well as cold brew coffee on draft.

SWEET SIN by Claude Escamilla elevates the typical pastry shop concept to a new level with the addition of the crowd-pleasing chocolate fountain, and we are excited for our guests to stop by and enjoy the shop’s unique offerings,” said Tonia Chafetz, General Manager of The LINQ Promenade.

“This pastry shop represents my dream come true,” adds Escamilla. “It incorporates years of imagination and planning, and I am grateful to see my vision come true and share it with everyone who visits The LINQ Promenade.”

Escamilla grew up in the south of France, where he began his pastry arts career while studying at La Chambre des Metiers in Perpignan. He graduated with a professional aptitude certificate in 1995 and a master’s degree in pastry in 1998. During school, he regularly interned with renowned French chefs and spent weekends creating pastries in his father’s bakery. While still in France, he gained further experience developing pastries and menus for a large-scale catering company and decorating for a pastry shop helmed by one of France’s most celebrated pastry chefs.

In 1999, Escamilla arrived in Las Vegas, where he worked as assistant pastry chef at Bellagio, before being promoted to assistant executive pastry chef for the resort and overseeing all pastry shop production and 65 employees. In 2009, he became executive pastry chef for Bellagio Patisserie and Aria Patisserie, where he managed 115 employees spanning the kitchen and front-of-house locations.

In addition to holding executive roles at top-tier patisseries, Escamilla’s career includes several national and international championship titles. He is a two-time World Pastry Champion and two-time U.S. Pastry Champion, and he was named one of the Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America by Pastry Arts Design magazine and Pastry Chef of the Year by the Nevada Restaurant Association.

1923 Prohibition Bar Celebrates National Bourbon Day

1923 Prohibition Bar at Mandalay Bay, open seven days a week, announces National Bourbon Day specials on Monday, June 14 with 15% off their house bourbon flight available at the bar top with tasting notes. The bourbon flight is regularly priced at $32 and includes a sampling of today’s most popular bourbons including Buffalo Trace, Bulleit, Angel’s Envy and Angel’s Envy Rye.

The new, Prohibition-themed 1923 Prohibition Bar, is a private, hidden, modern speakeasy, serving bourbon spirits and signature barrel-aged specialty cocktails. The elegant venue also hosts live burlesque shows, live rock band karaoke and bourbon education and tasting classes.

Prohibition

For those of you who don’t know what prohibition and speakeasies are, Prohibition started in 1920 with the Volstead Act and was essentially a piece of legislation that outlawed drinking within the US, and was created as a result of the Christian Temperance movement that started with what we consider to be the first wave of feminism in the 1820s-1930s, as women wanted to, among other things, prevent spousal abuse that would occur as a result of drinking. Needless to say, the act was hard to enforce and people began distributing liquor illegally, known as “bootlegging,” and people would go to illegal bars, known as “speakeasies.” Gangs rose in popularity during this time, such as Al Capone, as a result of bootlegging. The act was officially repealed in 1933.

National Bourbon Day

National Bourbon Day is a day in which to celebrate America’s National Spirit, a drink created officially by Elijah Craig in the limestone shelf region, where most whisky is still made, in the 1700s. Charred barrels gave the whisky it’s iconic oaky flavor. It is still produced predominantly in America (hence the title of America’s National Spirit) and is enjoyed by many today.
