HOT•BED × SUMMERHOUSE

HOT•BED is pleased to present SUMMERHOUSE, an open call exhibition curated around the idea of escapism. Featuring 58 contemporary artists working in sculpture, painting, photography and mixed media, curator Bryan Hoffman invites visitors who seek a distraction from daily life to engage in a fantasy. After a year of upheaval and transformational cultural shifts, this artistic oasis is designed to let people take a beat, reconnect and prepare to emerge into a new world. SUMMERHOUSE will be on view from June 19 – August 21, 2021 with an opening event on June 19, 2021 at 6-9pm. To RSVP, please visit our website.

In the last year of social distancing, the natural world has become an even more necessary part of the lives of urban dwellers. HOT•BED is creating an inner-city summer escape teeming with horticulture — bringing the essence of the outdoors inside, and honoring the offerings and delicate ecosystems of nature. This is a place to explore, relax, and forget the bustle of the city amid lush greenery and art. The immersive gallery experience will include towering trees and palms — nature’s original shade structures — as well as additional covered spaces designed as cool, shady places to relax and unwind.

The artists featured in the show employ a wide variety of mediums and styles to evoke an aesthetically bold sense of the season. Among those represented are fiber artist Caitlin McCormick, whose intricate mixed media pieces combine embroidery with sculptural elements; Tom McFarland, who is best known for his textured string sculptures and geometric compositions; photographer Don Bell whose Aerial Isolation series captures extreme social distancing through aerial landscape photographs; Kay Seohyung Lee’s Hellscapes series consisting of hyper-detailed illustrations and painting; and many more.

Each nature-inspired work provides a unique take on escapism, evoking the ambiance of summertime spent in the outdoors. Together they present a luminous and playful immersive experience that replicates a temporary departure from urban living and builds a deeper sense of community. The exhibition also sparks the nostalgic feeling that comes with the end of the season. A gathering place of respite, reconnection, and joy, SUMMERHOUSE encourages visitors to eat, drink, and be merry. As the days get longer and more leisurely, this exhibition is the perfect seasonal reprieve.

SUMMERHOUSE will have conjunctive event programming throughout the course of the exhibition, including a residency by Lino Kino, a Philadelphia-based media arts collective, in MICRO•GALLERY. Lino Kino will transform the space into the home of their internet art TV channel, LKTV, hosted on Twitch. MICRO•GALLERY will become a multi-use production and broadcast studio that serves as the focal point to spontaneous broadcasts including live music, DJ sets, current events, cultural commentary, performance art, dance, comedy, and the strange and uncategorizable. LKTV will be open to the public for viewing during gallery hours beginning on July 24 until the end of the exhibition. For more information and additional updates on SUMMERHOUSE events, please visit our website’s current events page.

PineappleCITI × Klein × LordQuest

Today, Red Bull Records artist and rapper pineappleCITI teams up with hip-hop MC Serious Klein and producer LordQuest for the release of their single, “All My Shots.”

Out now via Red Bull Records, the single serves as the official theme song of the 2021 Red Bull Half Court, a global, high-octane 3on3 basketball tournament that tips off in more than 20 countries. Kicking off with a bouncing bassline, pineappleCITI runs the chorus with a soulful melody while Serious Klein spits heavy-hitting verses with quick-witted lyricism. A slam dunk of a single, “All My Shots” melds both artists’ styles with LordQuest’s sleek and stylish production, making for a victorious and must-listen collaboration.

Red Bull Half Court is currently underway, and tournaments continue through August. For more information visit their website.

For pineappleCITI, rhymes and raps spring right from the heart as she approaches each song, project, album, and show with equal reverence for nineties East Coast storytelling and old-school Motown catharsis. Endorsed early on by The FADER, PAPER, Complex, and Billboard, in addition to being labeled one of the ‘25 Underrated Female Rappers’ by Okayplayer, the New Jersey-born MC provides a simultaneously unique and universal perspective to her music. With a focus on songs that feature motivational lyricism and powerful messages, she has released a number of recent singles, including “Recognize,” “Believe,” and “Lift Me Up,” the latter of which was dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement and victims of police brutality.

Kelvin Boakye AKA Serious Klein is an English rapping MC that has emerged out of the underground hip-hop scene in Germany. His debut EP, The Serious Outlook in 2012 put Klein on the map in his small German city. His following EPs The Introduction in 2015 and Summer 03’s Problem in 2016 gained Klein more popularity within his local market and a new found recognition in the US & UK. His sound, which he describes as ‘art rap,’ is an eclectic mix of jazz, rap, hip-hop, trap, and soul. His intrinsically diverse sound stems from his love of music of all kinds and is heavily influenced by artists ranging from 2Pac to Luther Vandross. 2016 brought Serious in contact with international artists such as Denzel Curry, Mick Jenkins, The Underachievers, and Bryson Tiller, some of who he supported on European tour dates. Support from The FADER, COLORS, Majestic Casual, REVOLT, Complex, and more are signs that this young artist is one to keep an eye on.

Born in Ghana and based in Toronto, LordQuest is an urban and pop producer. His unique approach to production fuses elements of old/new school hip-hop, soul, jazz, funk, and electronic music. He’s worked with and has cut songs with Schoolboy Q, Talib Kweli, Dom Kennedy, Jordin Sparks, Raekwon, SiR, and more.

Online Casino × Best Gaming Experience

Slots with the best gaming experience online

When you go to an online casino, you will find plenty of slot games to play. These can be great fun to try your luck on and also, there are some massive cash prizes to be won. Let’s take a look at some of the slots that can give you the best gaming experience online.

Call of Duty 4

You may be familiar with Call of Duty, the popular video game, but it’s made its way to the slot world as well. It has repeated its success with a series of slot games. The fourth in the series has been a big hit and that’s not the easiest of tasks as there’s the job of keeping the games fresh.

This five-reel game has 25 paylines and the symbols will be familiar to  those who have played the original video game. There are some exciting bonus features and big cash prizes to be won, so a great gaming experience is available here.

Game of Thrones

There was so much to like about the television series and turning it into a slot game was perhaps inevitable. It makes up for the ending of the show and there’s even the opportunity given to choose which of the great Houses of Westeros that you can be a member of.

Fans of the show will be in seventh heaven with the excellent symbols and the theme song being constantly played. Lots of free spins to be won too, so a great time lies ahead.

Hitman

If the Hitman  (aka Agent 47) has you in your sights, be scared, very scared. Thankfully, slot players are immune from the fear of being one of his targets. Instead, they can sit back and enjoy playing this Microgaming slot.

It has a rather moody look to it with plenty of weapons as its symbols. 18 free spins can be won and there’s some great cash prizes to be won. It’s all so different from the days when the symbols were pieces of fruit with small amounts to be won.

Upon joining an online casino, there are typically very lucrative welcome offers that can be received, as a thank you from the operator for you joining their platform and community. These are incentives to register with a site in a highly competitive industry. Often free spins will be part or all of the welcome offer. These don’t just give you the opportunity to win some money (not massive amounts as winnings are often capped) but the chance to learn how to play games you might not be too familiar with.

A good method to test online slots is to use free spin offers such as these to get your feel for the game, see if it suits your play style and find out if lady luck is on your side! Current day slot games can be very complex with their bonus games, wilds, scatter symbols and thousands of ways to get a win. Playing a game with some free spins allows you to find out more about how they work. This can protect your real cash balance and hopefully teach you the skills that will help you when using your own money.

Naomi Osaka × Mental Health Advocacy

Naomi Osaka, the highest paid female athlete to date, recently withdrew from the French Open and announced on Monday that she will also withdraw from the Berlin WTA 500 tournament. Osaka is 23 and is currently ranked number one by the Women’s Tennis Association in singles and number two in doubles, and is the first Asian player to hold the top rank in singles. Osaka has defeated long time tennis star Serena Williams and made over 37 million in endorsement deals last year.

Making enormous strides as a young, non-white female athlete and especially so in an underappreciated women’s sport, it was very shocking to hear of her depart from the French Open and subsequently from the Berlin 500 tournament. Doing what was best for her mental health, most were understanding and many of her competitors gave their praise and support for her decision. Osaka tweeted announcing her initial decision to not speak to the press on Twitter stating, “I’ve often felt that people have no regard for an athlete’s mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one.” After her announcement began to garner a lot of attention, she released another tweet explaining her leave from current play, “I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players, and my well-being is I withdraw from the tournament so everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris.

Serena Williams responded to Osaka’s decision by saying “I feel for Naomi. I feel like I wish I could give her a hug because I know what it’s like… You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to, in the best way she thinks she can.” While many agreed with Williams and shared similar sentiments, Osaka did receive a fair amount of backlash from her decision. Many criticized her for not being mentally tough and encouraged her to just talk to the press. Borris Becker, another tennis star, had a slightly different opinion, stating he was scared how Osaka’s career would fare after this decision and if she could not learn to handle the stress of a professional sports career.

Osaka told the press that she had too much anxiety over post-game press conferences; having dealt with anxiety and depression for a while and feels that interacting with the press increases her anxiety. When Osaka refused to speak to the press after her first French Open match, she was fined $15,000 and could have faced more severe punishment if she continued to ignore the press. Osaka later withdrew from the tournament after and announced her mental health was more important than her playing at this moment.

Many of you may remember a similar situation with the Seattle Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch, who would refuse to speak at press conferences. While it was included in his contract that he attends press conferences he told the press in a 2015 press conference that he did not appreciate the media constantly in his face hounding him, and that he felt the media was mad at him whether he spoke or not so he would prefer to say nothing at all. Called to be in compliance with his contract he would show up at every press conference and sit there not speaking or saying no comment. It came to be a joke to everyone and later clips of him at press conferences were turned into viral memes. We can see the comparison here and I wonder if the difference in reaction is because of the difference in sport or the difference in gender of the player. Both players are highly praised in their respective sports, they are top performing athletes and are both old and mature enough to make their own decisions as for what is best for them and their mental health.

Mental health struggles, although not new, have become newly accepted in society and it is a relatively new idea that celebrities, professionals and professional athletes can openly talk about their mental health struggles and hope to not to be put down for them. Although many still are, it is a sad thing to witness someone receive negative comments after claiming they are doing what they believe is in their best interests. We all struggle with mental health in one way or another and if Osaka believes it is best for her to not talk to the press, that should be a respected opinion by the community.

There will always be players, whether that is newbies who want to get their name out there and enjoy the spotlight, captains such as Megan Rapinoe and LeBron James who enjoy speaking on behalf of their team and feel it is in their duties as captains and team members to speak, or just someone who enjoys talking and doesn’t mind speaking to the press, there will never be a shortage of players, coaches, and staff members who are willing to give their opinion and comment at press conferences. All players should not be mandated to speak to the press if it is something they are not comfortable with.

With the negative reaction Osaka received, the fine and the additional media coverage she received after announcing she wanted very little, Osaka was forced to drop out from two major tournaments. Osaka discussed how she feels the tennis community, and higher ups could do a better job of supporting players and ensuring that they have good mental health. She and many others hope this starts the process of bettering all athletes’ mental health and changing outdated rules; hopefully this change does not come at the cost of a young star’s tennis career.

Calum Scott × Biblical

Today, multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter Calum Scott returns with his soulful new single “Biblical” and its beautifully surreal video. The first single from his forthcoming sophomore album, “Biblical” is the U.K.-based artist’s first new music since his full-length debut Only Human — a 2018 release that hit No. 1 on the iTunes album chart in 21 countries across the globe, in addition to selling more than 3.6 million in adjusted album sales and amassing over 7.5 billion combined streams.

Showcasing Scott’s soulful voice and deeply personal songwriting, “Biblical” speaks to the extraordinary power of unconditional love. “While I know the word ‘biblical’ has spiritual connotations to many, ‘Biblical’ to me is about unquantifiable love, a love beyond description or measure, a love of biblical proportions that transcends everyone and everything,” says Scott. “If I can aspire for one thing for this song, it’s that the listener hears it and fits a name, a face, or a passion to the lyric and makes it their story.”

Directed by UK duo Franklin & Marchetta, the video for “Biblical” opens on Scott sitting alone in a desolate room, then cuts to an alternate reality in which various characters (including a ballet dancer, a violinist, and a bride and groom) drift along in an underwater reverie. By the end of the video, Scott has broken through the wall that separates him from that enchanted world, becoming blissfully submerged as well.

Produced by Jon Maguire and partly recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, “Biblical” unfolds in moving piano melodies and delicate string work, building to a breathtaking cascade of harmonies at the bridge. “‘Biblical’ gave me contentment during a really awful time: it was a song that I had almost given up searching for, one that truly spoke to me. Finding a song you feel so connected to is the closest to magic you can get.” In sharing “Biblical” with the world, Scott hopes to provide listeners with the same sense of connection. “Lockdown had presented all of us a moment to realize how much people mean to us and how sometimes we take that for granted,” he says. “Singing that sentiment enabled me to release and reflect those emotions, immortalizing them. The song means so much to me that I wanted to make it the first thing people hear when coming back with new music.”

With his sophomore album due out later this year, “Biblical” makes for a perfect introduction to the next era of Scott’s artistry, which finds him fully claiming his identity as a lyrical storyteller. “Having seen how my music had reacted with people over the last three years, it gave me an opportunity to absorb what I had experienced, to mature and become an artist with a mission,” says Scott. “I want to create something for people to feel seen, heard, and represented.”

Mimi Webb Shares New Single Dumb Love

With over 116 million total streams, widespread worldwide critical acclaim, and growing global buzz, UK pop singer and songwriter Mimi Webb shares a new single and music video entitled “Dumb Love.”

On this stirring ballad, piano keys resound as she grasps on to a formative romance through her nostalgically vivid lyrics. As her powerful delivery echoes, she recalls, “We had that dumb love.” The accompanying visual directed by Elliot Simpson brings the story to life with a ton of emotion and a sharp sense of humor as Mimi Webb reconnects with an old flame at a wedding where everything else just seems to go wrong in hilarious fashion.

About the song, she commented, “I think we’ve all had ‘dumb love’ at some point! You fall crazy head over heels for someone, and it’s all about that fresh new love feeling you get. That ‘is this actually real’ feeling & sometimes, it’s the most real, because ‘dumb love’ really never ends.”

Next up, Mimi Webb will embark on her first proper headline tour. It kicks off in Dublin, Ireland at Academy 2 on Thursday October 28, visits cities across the UK, and concludes in London on November 2 at Scala.

Topic × Bebe Rexha Release Chain My Heart

Topic and Bebe Rexha team up on the infectious new single “Chain My Heart,” which captures how, paradoxically, surrendering to love can bring the ultimate freedom. Bebe’s evocative, rapid-fire vocal delivery and Topic’s darkly melodic production are an intoxicating combination on the track, which was released today by Astralwerks.

Co-collaborator and NYC-native Bebe Rexha explains, “’Chain My Heart’ is about finding somebody that truly captivates your heart, and not wanting to let them go. I had a great time working together with Topic, he is very talented, and I am so excited for everyone to hear this song!”

Topic adds, “When creating ‘Chain My Heart,’ we noticed relatively early on that the song needed a strong woman, who could convey a certain edginess with her voice. With some melodies you directly imagine the person you want on the track in the process. Bebe Rexha was the one who struck our minds instantly. Vocally, she has exactly the attitude that the song needs. You can hear that especially in the pre-chorus.”

“Chain My Heart” comes on the heels of the release of Bebe’s Better Mistakes – the sophomore album from the Diamond-selling, two-time GRAMMY® nominee – and Topic’s collaboration with ATB andA7S, “Your Love (9pm). The acclaimed producer recently dropped a remix of “You,” giving the Regard + Troye Sivan + Tate McRae single a sultry, summery club vibe. His exuberant, soulful remix of Moby’s new version of “Natural Blues” ft. Gregory Porter & Amythyst Kiah can be heard HERE. Topic and A7S were nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Song for their 2020 hit,  “Breaking Me,” which has racked up more than 1.7 billion combined streams worldwide.

Visit Iceland and The Fagradalsfjall Volcano

Everyone is talking about the volcanic eruption happening in Iceland right now. Iceland ProCruises/ProTravel are the premiere travel companies in Iceland, offering soft expedition-style cruises circumnavigating the Island. They announce their availability arrange a trip to the volcano before and after a cruise so travelers can visit this amazing display of nature while visiting Iceland.

The Land of Ice and Fire is once again living up to its name; a new eruption is occurring in Iceland! From Geldingadalur valley, just south of Fagradalsfjall volcano, gleaming lava can be found running in molten rivers and spurting in spectacular jets.

Making this phenomenon even more exciting is its location. The Reykjanes Peninsula is familiar to all travelers to Iceland, as it connects Keflavik International Airport with the country’s capital, Reykjavik; the region is also home to the Blue Lagoon. It is the most accessible eruption in Iceland since the country has become a major tourist destination.

There is a website available to answer the questions of potential visitors and Iceland ProCruises stand ready to make arrangements for a pre or post cruise stay in Iceland. Their expertise assures visitors of a safe and splendid tour of the volcano.

There are hiking tours with guides; some at night which show the breathtaking fountains of fire and vivid orange rivers of lava which are even more striking against the dark sky. Those who want a more personalized experience can also organize private tours. While tourists can visit without an experienced guide, it is not recommended, as no roads lead directly to the site, meaning you’ll have to hike for several hours; only certain operators have permission to drive closer. This is very challenging for those who are not knowledgeable of the local area, particularly considering the rugged terrain and unpredictable weather. It’s best to have a reputable agency make plans for you.

More information at HERE, including rates and schedules for 2021.
