6 Ways to Make Your Kitchen More Sustainable

We hear a lot about sustainability and we know that it’s something that is supposed to be good for us. Yet most of us are not quite sure what it means to be sustainable, or how we can incorporate sustainability into our everyday lives. The good news is that understanding sustainability and making it a priority is not only easy, it is something that everyone can do and feel good about. The kitchen is a great place to start for those who want to make some healthy green changes in their lives.

“It’s not difficult for people to become more sustainable, especially if they start in the kitchen,” explains Sarah Scott Mitchell, co-owner of Neutrall, a company specializing in sustainable glassware. “It’s really just a matter of knowing some of the different things you can do to live a life that is considered to be more sustainable. The more people know, the easier it becomes.”

Sustainability, according to the United Nations, is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising our future generations to meet their own needs. Essentially, when you opt for sustainability, you will be making choices that won’t harm the planet in the future. While you want to be able to use the products that you need today, you don’t want to do so at the expense of tomorrow.

The kitchen is a great place to start, because the choices we make that are related to this room in the home is linked to sustainability in a big way. From buying more organic products to creating a compost bin for scraps, there is a lot people can do to help create a greener and more eco-friendly kitchen. Here are 6 ways to make your kitchen more sustainable:

  1. Recycle. Keep a little basket on the counter, or bin in the cupboard, where you can toss items that need to recycled. There are many foods that have packaging that can be recycled. Put it in the bin for convenience, and once that bin is full take it to the garage to dump into the main recycling bin.
  2. Reduce waste. The United State Department of Agriculture reports that food waste is estimated to be 30-40% of the food supply. Think about how often you toss leftovers or find things that have gone bad in the crisper. Reduce the amount of food waste you are creating by only buying what you need, freezing what you can’t use right away, not making more than you need, and giving away leftovers that you otherwise won’t eat.
  3. Buy organic and local. Make an effort to purchase more foods that are organic and made locally as well as use eco friendly catering supplies, to reduce pollution and the carbon footprint.
  4. Check your dishes. Not all dishes and cookware are made sustainably. Some have traveled thousands of miles to reach America, and are made through means that were not environmentally friendly. Opt for items that are more eco friendly, such as the sustainable glasses by Neutrall, which are carbon neutral and made in the USA.
  5. Opt for natural cleaning. Cleaners with harsh ingredients are not only bad for the environment, but they are bad for human health as well. Opt for non-toxic cleaners that are all plant based such as Therapy Clean.
  6. Commit to green choices. The first step to creating a greener and more sustainable kitchen is to make the commitment to do so. It’s easy for people to continue with what they have been doing, but when you rise to the challenge and make some changes you will feel great knowing you are helping the planet be healthier for generations to come.

“Once people make the choices to make life in the kitchen more sustainable it becomes easy,” added co-founder Ernesto Humpierres. “By providing people with a way to have sustainable glassware we are part of the solution, and we are really happy about that.”

All Neutrall glassware is made in the USA, upcycled, sustainable, and is shipped in eco-friendly packaging. The company was created by Mitchell and Humpierres, who live in Austin, Texas, with their young twins. The first product launched by Neutrall is a set of two upcycled 8-ounce glass cups that are shipped in sustainable packaging. The sturdy and compact glasses are great for morning juices and drinks, and great for small hands. They are great for families, and to give as gifts for weddings and house warmings. What Is A Football Prop Bet? Here’s What To Know Before Making One

Betting on sports can be a lot of fun and even be lucrative when you have luck on your side and know what you’re doing. But, there is an aspect that makes athletic wagers even more exciting. There is another type of sports bet called a prop. A “prop” is short for propositional bet. It is often a side bet that involves something very specific during game time.

What makes it exciting is how random these bets can be, so winning gives you an extra jolt. Props take a lot more luck than just betting on the win or loss of a particular team or game, but there are ways that can help you improve your odds.

In this article, we will go over exactly what a prop bet is and how you can make one yourself.

Prop bet examples

The idea of a prop bet is to find something interesting about a player or team to bet on. An example would betting that the New England Patriots’ defense will score a touchdown in this week’s game. Or, you could bet on how many touchdowns Tom Brady will make for Tampa Bay against his old team, the Patriots.

The possibilities are endless, which is what makes these types of bets so fun. You can see a good return if you actually win, since the odds are really stacked against you. Most of the time prop bets are pretty small, so you can keep it economical and hopefully make something in return.

There Is A Little Bit Of Skill Involved

One of the reasons that these bets are played is because there has been some research conducted. For example, you can find out how many touchdowns a certain quarterback has made during the third quarter in his career. With this kind of information, you can make an informed bet.

There are lots of sites in which inform readers on these kinds of stats. That way, you can make a prop bet according to the information you feel comfortable with. Check the Awesemo NFL player props to get an idea of the stats that might be able to help you.

If you are a new gambler, these bets may not be good if you have the intention of actually winning. They can be fun for the beginner when you do make a good bet that comes through. But, there is a lot of luck involved for that to happen. An experienced bet-maker will have better odds, though they are still not in your favor.

Because of the nature of these bets and the high payouts, they are usually capped by most sports books at a couple of hundred dollars, or at most $500. One other thing to consider is that these prop bets don’t move in unison with the line. As the line changes, the odds likely stay the same for the prop bet.

WonderWorks Panama City × The Force Of Air

Air is something we all need to survive, but most of us don’t know much about it. WonderWorks Panama City Beach is opening a new exhibit that sheds light on this essential gas to give guests a better understanding of what it is and how it moves. The attraction’s new exhibit will open on August 13, 2021, and it will be included in the regular admission price. This is just one of many exhibits WonderWorks features that helps guests learn about science in a fun and hands-on way.

“Families are going to really find this exhibit fun and interesting at the same time,” said Michael Walsingham, general manager of WonderWorks Panama City Beach. “It’s a great exhibit that will help people see how air moves around, and the kids are going to enjoy the interaction.”

The new exhibit brings to life the concept of how air moves – something many guests have never thought about. It features a maze of tubes hanging from the walls and ceiling that guests can send colorful pieces of material — dubbed “poofs” — through to observe how the force of air moves through the maze.

In addition to giving guests a visual demonstration of how air moves, the exhibit’s room is filled with fun facts about the air so everyone comes away learning something new. Guests will learn about what air is, how it moves, how it holds water, what sort of living organisms it contains,  why there is no air in outer space, what gusts and bioaerosols are, and much more.

This new exhibit is one of the many STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) focused exhibits at WonderWorks Panama City Beach. STEAM-related exhibits are a focus at WonderWorks, as its mascot Professor Wonders hopes to provide guests with a fun and interactive way to learn more about science.

“We invite people to check out this new exhibit and learn something new about the very thing that keeps them alive,” added Walsingham. “We love to help people learn, and we aim to also keep it interesting!”

WonderWorks Panama City Beach offers many STEM-focused exhibits and activities all year long. There are also demonstrations, activities, virtual learning labs, science fair partnerships, homeschool days, and more. To get more information about the WonderWorks STEM programs, visit the website HERE.

Vevo × Sam Williams

Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, announces the release of Nashville singer songwriter Sam Williams‘ DSCVR performances of “The World: Alone” and “Glasshouse Children,” off his forthcoming album, Glasshouse Children set to be released August 20 via Mercury Nashville. Vevo DSCVR focuses on the development of emerging artists, through performance content and careful curation. Vevo has a long history of helping emerging artists break through to new and wider audiences. Past alumni of Vevo’s DSCVR series include HARDY, Mitchell Tenpenny and Jade Bird. Vevo is committed to working with artists at an early stage of their career to create unique content that brings their music to life visually and provides exposure to new audiences through the platform.

Sam Williams, the grandson of country pioneer Hank Williams and son of outlaw legend Hank Jr., is the latest in a long line of American originals, but not here for the sake of tradition or legacy. Writing with a singular voice and style, he fuses gut-wrenching honesty and plainspoken poetics with raw vulnerability and deep empathy for a profound and cinematic sound.

Glasshouse Children was introduced to the world with the release of slow-burning single “The World: Alone” following the sudden death of Sam’s sister Katie, leading Sam to discover a deeper purpose in life. “That song was never slated to be a single,” says Williams, “but I knew no other way to honor Katie’s memory. She was front row at my Opry debut and always my biggest cheerleader. I wrote the track a year before her passing, having no idea I would be detailing a tragedy and the loss of a dream, but the music lives and grows, and I understand now that I was destined to do this and have to carry on.” It was released on what would have been Katie’s 28th birthday.

The album’s title track, “Glasshouse Children,” is an orchestral reflection on how past trauma can shape present strength. The haunting tune was co-written with Ronnie Bowman and The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, and highlights Williams tender, plaintive vocals throughout.

Coheed and Cambria × Shoulders

Coheed and Cambria have shared the official music video for “Shoulders,” their first proper studio recording in almost three years. Streaming now on the band’s YouTube channel, the Max Moore directed video captures the band delivering a powerful performance of the track set within a cavernous industrial space. Watch it HERE.

“As a band, we’ve always been a little outside of the mainstream and that’s helped keep us true to ourselves. As people, it’s important to focus on your strengths and who you are, and not try too hard for acceptance. Everyone is special and has their own unique contributions and that’s what the video represents,” remarked the band.

The song “Shoulders” was officially released on July 21 and has since amassed over 1,000,000 streams and become the first song inside the top 40 at Active Rock radio in the band’s history, currently sitting at 31 with a bullet.

“A total banger as explosive and catchy as anything they’ve ever released,” declared REVOLVER who placed “Shoulders” in their weekly Best New Songs Right Now round-up. “Coheed and Cambria are back, and they’re heavy as ever,” asserted Billboard, with Guitar World attesting “Coheed and Cambria have come out swinging.” Brooklyn Vegan observed, “It finds the band embracing their love of classic heavy metal riffage, before exploding into the kind of soaring chorus that Coheed have been churning out since day one they sound pretty damn inspired.”

For the last 20 years, Coheed and Cambria have continuously broken the mold of what a rock band can be, forging their own path and building a universe around their music unlike any other. Whether it is in the way their genre-spanning approach to songwriting has allowed them to bridge worlds without being contained to one, or the multifaceted story arc of their albums and comic book series which mark the longest running concept story in music, Coheed and Cambria have consistently shaped new standards, never conformed.

“Shoulders” touches on the highs and lows of this journey, and how at times it can be frustrating to be an outsider to trendy circles, but in the end, doing it your own way has the biggest rewards.

Coheed and Cambria vocalist / guitarist Claudio Sanchez commented on “Shoulders” noting, “In art, in your career, in relationships. No matter how much you give of yourself or try, you have to accept that not everything in life can be a perfect fit.”

Ironically, “Shoulder” might be the band’s most accessible material of their career, built with ferocious riffs and a towering chorus – maybe it’s time for the best of both worlds.

Later this summer Coheed and Cambria will embark on a outdoor co-headlining amphitheater tour with The Used. The 18-city U.S. tour, produced by Live Nation, will begin on Friday, Aug 27 in Irvine, CA and make stops in Phoenix, Dallas, Cleveland, New Jersey, Worcester, and more. The late summer journey will feature special guests Meet Me @ The Altar and caroles daughter on select dates and will culminate with performance at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL on Sept 2. A full listing of dates can be found below along with additional information HERE.

It’s been almost three years since Coheed and Cambria’s 2018 album, “Vaxis I: The Unheavenly Creatures,” was released as the band’s “return to concept” album. After stepping away with a more introspective album in 2015, frontman Claudio Sanchez and the band returned to the sci-fi universe of “The Amory Wars” in what was said to be the first of a 5-part series of albums. With the release of “Shoulders,” and a major summer tour now announced, the volume of fans’ chatter for “Vaxis 2” are loading up the band’s social media pages.

TikTok’s Explosive Growth

TikTok is world’s most popular mobile video app with 660 million downloads in 2020

Despite facing competition and privacy concerns, TikTok’s 2020 growth appears to have solidified. It has now emerged as the most popular mobile video platform for the last year.

Data acquired by Finbold indicates that TikTok was the most popular mobile video app in 2020 globally, with 660.12 million downloads. Singapore’s Likee trails TikTok, accounting for 270.3 million downloads, while SnackVideo ranks third with 233.57 million downloads.

Despite strong brand support and longevity, YouTube ranks fourth with 222.7 million downloads, while TikTok Lite ranks fifth with 141.89 million downloads.

Other mobile video apps with significant downloads include Moj (93.87 million downloads), Zili (84.11 million downloads), MX TakaTak (81.7 million downloads), Josh (78.13 million downloads), and Uvideo (74.95 million downloads).

Pandemic impacts TikTok’s growth

TikTok’s growth was accelerated early last year and the report highlights some of the driving factors. According to the research report:

“The app experienced rapid growth in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, especially with the emerging lockdowns. During the lockdown, many people had to stay at home with apps like TikTok keeping people engaged leading to a snowballing effect.”

The app’s growth has also emerged from factors like the ability to offer users an alternative way of sharing content online by creating short videos with music, filters, and other captivating features.

TikTok’s growth has come amid increased challenges ranging from privacy concerns in the United States that saw the app almost get banned. Notably, the app was banned in India, losing a key market.

Furthermore, the app is still facing competition from established platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
