David Axelrod & Karl Rove

MasterClass, the online education company that enables anyone to learn from the best in the world, announced today that David Axelrod and Karl Rove, two of the most esteemed political strategists best known for respectively orchestrating winning presidential campaigns for Barack Obama and George W. Bush, are setting aside party affiliations to come together to teach the first MasterClass on campaign strategy and messaging. In this class, Axelrod and Rove will demystify the political campaign process and break down their philosophies on what it takes to plan and execute a winning campaign. The class is now available at www.masterclass.com/dakr. Enrollment for the class is $90 for lifetime access, or $180 per year for the All-Access Pass, which grants unlimited access to all new and existing classes.

“It has never been more important to understand how this world of politics works and how to win the hearts and minds of voters,” said David Rogier, co-founder and CEO of MasterClass. “The class isn’t about being a Democrat or Republican — it’s about two of the best political minds of our generation teaching how to win elections. David and Karl break down their respective campaign strategies and debate what is happening in the country today, and how we got here.”

In their MasterClass, Axelrod and Rove will provide perspectives from their professional experiences, as they share their passion for their work and for democracy. They will dive into successful communication and planning strategies from past presidential campaigns, covering the full scope of campaigning — from developing messages and mobilizing voters, to planning, fundraising and budgeting, as well as preparation tactics for debates. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the state of politics today and feel empowered to find their unique voice and place in the political process to help make an impact.

“Ronald Reagan used to say that our American experiment, our American democracy was always one generation away from extinction,” said Rove. “I hope that our MasterClass not only provides a better understanding of the inner workings of elections and politics, but also inspires students to get involved.”

“This is a confusing time in politics. On the one hand, there’s an enormous amount of rancor, with a president who very consciously plays base politics. On the other hand, I’ve seen a renewed sense of citizenship in response, with peoplerealizing the importance of getting involved,” said Axelrod. “As more people are getting engaged in politics, running for office and volunteering for candidates, we’ve designed this class to break down the campaign process.”

Axelrod served as chief strategist for Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 successful presidential bids and is credited with crafting the message of “change” that helped secure Obama’s historic victory. He later served as senior advisor in the Obama White House. Over the course of his career, Axelrod worked on nearly 150 campaigns that he chronicled in The New York Timesbestseller “Believer, My Forty Years in Politics.” He is currently a senior political commentator for CNN, host of the “The Axe Files” podcast, and founding director of the non-partisan Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago.

Rove, the deft political operative and fundraiser credited as “The Architect” by President George W. Bush of his victorious campaigns in 2000 and 2004, served as senior advisor and deputy chief of staff for the Bush administration. He is now a Fox News contributor, writes a weekly column forThe Wall Street Journal, and is the author of two books, “The Triumph of William McKinley” andThe New York Times bestseller “Courage and Consequence.”

Politics is the fifth new category MasterClass will launch this year as it continues to expand its catalogue across a range of subjects to offer educational, inspiring, and engaging classes taught by the world’s greatest minds. With more than 40 classes that dive into processes, techniques and philosophies, MasterClass helps students progress more rapidly towards their own mastery, explore a new passion, or learn a new skill. It offers a unique learning experience, including video lessons, interactive exercises, course materials, peer interaction, and more. All classes are available as part of an annual subscription for $180, or for individual purchase at $90 for lifetime access to the class, and can be accessed online at www.masterclass.com or on the MasterClass mobile app for iOS and Android.

Alessia Cara “The Pains Of Growing”

Worldwide multi-platinum, 2018 Grammy Award®-winning “Best New Artist”Alessia Cara, the most-streamed new female artist of 2017, has announced the final track listing for her eagerly anticipated second album, THE PAINS OF GROWING, arriving November 30th via Def Jam Recordings.  The 15-track album will include both current singles “Trust My Lonely” and “Growing Pains.” On Saturday, November 3rd, Alessia will make her Austin City Limits TV debut performing hits “Scars to Your Beautiful,” “Growing Pains,” and more. Alessia is set to perform “Trust My Lonely” at this year’s MTV EMA’s, broadcasting live on Sunday, November 4th from Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain.

THE PAINS OF GROWING is a self-penned, auto-biographical album chronicling her personal experiences over the past several years. For the cover of THE PAINS OF GROWING (photographed by superduperbrick,) Alessia is once again draped in the symbolic, oversized suit she wore in the “Trust My Lonely” and “Growing Pains” videos, as well as her recent appearances on  “Growing Pains” video, FallonColbert and The Today Show. “It’s an artistic way of symbolizing the idea of growing up,” she told the Today crew. “Sometimes you kind of feel like you’re drowning and you feel like you’re not ready for the roles life throws at you so this was my way of symbolizing it in an artistic way.”

Alessia recently completed a whirlwind promotional tour of speaking engagements at college campuses, where she discussed her music, her process, and her personal story of growth as an artist and a young woman. The tour encompassed the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Georgia State University in Atlanta, the Detroit Institute of Music Education and Columbia College in Chicago.

“Growing Pains” followed “1-800-273-8255” (National Suicide Prevention Lifeline), Alessia’s landmark 5x-platinum collaboration with fellow Def Jam artist Logic; and her double-platinum #1 Pop Song collaboration with Zedd. Together with her prior multi-platinum hits “Here,” “Wild Things,” and “Scars To Your Beautiful,” all from Know-It-All, her 2015 debut album, Alessia was named “Most-Streamed New Female Artist of 2017,” with over 8.5 billion global streams to date.  Combined YouTube views for the “1-800-273-8255” video are over 415 million to date; combined views for the “Stay” video are over 150 million to date.

Singer/songwriter Alessia Cara, a JUNO award winner for 2016 Breakthrough Artist of the Year in her native Canada, went on to receive the “Rule Breaker” honor at the Billboard Women in Music annual event.  She won MTV VMAs in 2017 for Best Electronic Dance Video (for “Stay”) and Best Fight Against The System (for her multi-platinum #1 Billboard Pop Song “Scars To Your Beautiful,” which she and Logic performed with Khalid as the climactic moment of this year’s Grammy broadcast).  Alessia also won back-to-back ASCAP Pop Awards for “Stay” and “Scars To Your Beautiful”; along with Dance Song of the Year (for “Stay”) at the iHeart Radio Music Awards.

Alessia has earned nominations for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock at the 2017 American Music Awards, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Breakout Artist, the Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, the BET Award for Best New Artist, the BBC Award for Song of The Year, and many other honors.  In addition, she lent her voice to the RIAA platinum “How Far I’ll Go” penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, official song of Disney’s animated film Moana.

LJay Currie x Free

Today, Entertainment/Motown Records released Ljay Currie‘s new EP, Free, a six-song collection that showcases the Los Angeles-based artist’s inventive, deeply melodic blend of hip-hop and R&B.

Download / stream Free HERE.

“The project is called Free because I’m a free spirit when it comes to my creative process,” says Currie, who names everyone from Lil Wayne to Coldplay among his main inspirations. “I don’t ever try to force anything, I just go with the flow and explore and see what I come up with. If the vibe is right, that’s what I’ll follow.”

Cumulative worldwide streams of lead single “Undercover” ft. Kiana Led, have already surpassed 1.3 million. The slow-burning yet uptempo number, driven by Currie’s graceful piano work, exemplifies the 20-year-old’s free-spirited approach. Singer-songwriter-actress Led provides smoldering vocals on the track, which captures the excitement of pushing the boundaries of a close friendship into something more. Currie and Led shot the official video at Dockweiler State Beach near Los Angeles International Airport. View “Undercover” HERE.

“Shots You Don’t Take,” another song on Free, nods to Currie’s basketball background. He turned down numerous Division I basketball scholarships in order to pursue a career in music and unfolds with a laid-back message of self-empowerment. With its layered rhythms and luminous guitar tones, the feel-good “555” draws inspiration from Currie’s love of numerology.

“When I was recording, I looked down at the clock and the time was 5:55,” he says. “I looked it up to see what that meant, and it’s about how there’s a big change coming, but you shouldn’t be afraid of it. Don’t be scared to try something new.”

Currie grew up in Gardena, California and credits the jazz and classic R&B records his dad played at home with giving him a feel for rhythm and melody. When he was 10, he taught himself to play piano by following along with YouTube tutorials. Within a few years, having also mastered drums and guitar, Currie began making beats and producing his own tracks. His former basketball coach, Derryck “Big Tank” Thornton, a longtime producer who’s worked with artists such as Mary J. Blige and Fabolous, was instrumental in convincing Currie’s parents that their son had as bright a future in the studio as he might have on the court. Thornton told them, “I’ve never heard anything like this before, just give me a year, and if he doesn’t have a record deal by then, I’ll make sure he’s back in school.”

Once Currie had built up a body of work, he and Thornton played his music for a number of major labels, and soon the young artist was signed to EP Entertainment/Motown Records. Currie recently sat down with Young California to talk about a wide range of topics, from his creative process and dream collaboration to the Motown legacy and his fondness for Fortnite.

ASTRALWERKS x NINJA

In a first for the music and gaming worlds, Astralwerks and Tyler “Ninja” Blevins have joined forces on a groundbreaking new project, Ninjawerks. Ninja, who is the world’s biggest gamer, announced the album earlier today at TwitchCon in San Jose, CA.

Many of today’s most acclaimed electronic artists have been tapped to soundtrack Ninja’s gaming world. Ninjawerks will be available in digital, CD and vinyl formats. Look for songs and other content to be launched in the weeks ahead, including a wide range of merchandise, Ninjawerks accessories and original artwork.

“I’m stoked about this project, first because I truly love the music, but also because I think this is another big step towards bridging the gap between music artists and gamers,” said Ninja. “Our worlds keep getting more and more connected, and this feels like the next step — hopefully this can become the soundtrack to gaming. It’s also amazing to partner with Astralwerks and Capitol Music Group, because they bring so much credibility to the album. I mean. Come on. Get your ears ready.”

Astralwerks General Manager Toby Andrews added, “Partnering with Ninja and taking our first step into the gaming world simultaneously as a label is an extremely exciting proposition, and we couldn’t be happier to be announcing Ninjawerks. Working with Ninja and his team at Loaded to curate and conceptualize the album and the coming campaign has been remarkable. Through the hard work and dedication of a lot of people, it’s great to see this project come to life and expand the possibilities of what we can offer artists.”

MATT OX x CHIEF KEEF

Philadelphia rapper Matt Ox releases his record “Jetlag Ft. Chief Keef” today, right on the heels of his song “Zero Degrees.”The 13-year old recently signed with Motown and will release his album “OX” on October 30, 2018.

This song is full circle moment for Matt Ox and Chief Keef, representing an endorsement, or passing of the torch, moment. Keef himself started rapping before he was in his teens. In 2017 Matt was invited to open for Chief Keef in LA at the tender age of twelve, though fair to say for Matt Ox, twelve was a less than tender age, being very much a streetsmart kid from Philly.

Matt Ox is more than a hyperactive kid who likes fidget spinners and the anime character Death Note. With 46.7 million streams — from just a handful of singles — and a clutch of viral videos, his music caught the attention of the Working On Dying production collective, Motown Records, Chief Keef, PnB Rock, Lil Yachty, Meek Mill, Post Malone and Lil Uzi Vert and festivals such as theMad Decent Block Party, Roots Picnic, Ill Rootsand Day and Night Festival.

Most recently he collaborated with Valee for “Awesome” of which Rolling Stone noted “The real surprise here is that Matt Ox more than keeps up with Valee.”

Hip-hop was embedded into the Philly native at an early age. “I’ve been wanting to be an artist since I was a kid,” he says. A fan of Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, Ox tinkered with the guitar and keyboard. Raised by his mother, Ox’s uncle would take him to concerts and to the studio (himself being a musician), and soon Ox was editing videos and engineering songs.

As a result, Ox caught the attention of notable producers Oogie Mane and Forza and the Working On Dying production collection, who produced Ox’s single Overwhelming (with has 6.58 million soundcloud listens, and its accompanying video boasts 23.7 million views). When Matt earned his first check from his music, he spent it on getting he and his mom an apartment of their own, and then equipment to make a home studio in that apartment.

OX, who freestyles his verses, says that his mood and the vibe in the studio dictates the direction any record. Happy to have a viral hit behind him, Matt Ox looks toward solidifying his place in hip-hop.

Leroy Sanchez

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Leroy Sanchez will embark on a 14-city tour, kicking off October 17 in Los Angeles, CA in support of his new single and video, “Preacher,” set to release in partnership with BroadbandTV (BBTV) on all digital streaming platforms October 19. Select dates are in support of multi-platinum recording artist Andy Grammar’s national “The Good Parts” tour. Tickets are now available at www.leroysanchez.com.

“I have never felt so strongly about a song or the vision for it. It shows a very personal side of me that I’ve never shown before. It’s not easy to be vulnerable in front of an audience, but being honest and facing our weaknesses is what makes us stronger,” says Sanchez.

“Preacher” premieres on YouTube on October 19 and is now available to pre-save on Spotify and Apple.

Sanchez’s 2017 debut EP “Elevated” has garnered over 10 million digital streams (and growing), earning him two Teen Choice Award nominations and an opportunity to perform with Clean Bandit on the 2017 broadcast. The release of his debut single Man Of The Year received praise from Billboard and People.

In addition to having over 3.8 million subscribers on YouTube, Sanchez’s accolades include two Platinum-certified singles in Spain – Blas Canto’s “El No Soy” and Malu’s “Invisible.”

Pirelli 2019 Tire Range Presentation for Formula 1

Next year, there will be just three P Zero colors at each race. These will always be the same – white, yellow and red – denoting the hard, medium and soft tire choices respectively at every Grand Prix. But that doesn’t mean that there will be only three tire compounds.

Instead, the hard, medium and soft tire compounds will continue to vary to suit the different characteristics of each track. For instance, a Red soft tire for Monaco will differ substantially from a Red soft tire for Silverstone or Suzuka. The precise number of tire compounds available, covering a wide spectrum from soft to hard, will be communicated in December after homologation from the FIA. Before every race next year, Pirelli will reveal which exact tire compounds form the hard, medium and soft choices for the weekend. This new system makes it easy for the casual fan to tell the difference between the tires, yet still allows people who want more detail to know which of the specific tire compounds available are being used.

The colors for the Cinturato intermediate tire and full wet tires remain unchanged next year – green and blue respectively. Mario Isola, Pirelli’s Head of Car Racing – “We’ve been talking about this with the Teams, FIA and Formula 1 for a while. The idea behind the change is to make all the tires more easily recognizable and explainable – especially for television – while still clearly denoting which specific tire compounds are being used at each race”.

Petersen Auto Museum

The Petersen Automotive Museum will debut its latest exhibit, “Legends of Los Angeles: Southern California Race Cars and Their Builders,” to the media and ticket holders on November 8, 2018. Located in the Charles Nearburg Family Gallery, the display will feature 12 race cars, racing artifacts and 180-degree panoramic video, providing an immersive way to experience a variety of the fastest and most famous cars built in and around Los Angeles. The reception will pay homage to racing icon Parnelli Jones, a motorsports legend known for his exploits in Indy Car, sports car and off-road racing.

Southern California’s passion for racing became apparent in the early 1900s. The temperate climate and diverse landscapes provided limitless opportunities for racing. Metropolitan cities became home to large racing venues, dry lake beds became the site of land speed trials, airport runways became drag strips and mountains became off-road courses and hill climbs.

Reflecting this diversity, the exhibit will present race cars by the region’s renowned designers and engineers including Fred Offenhauser, Harry Miller, Frank Kurtis and Max Balchowsky. In addition to two racing engines on display, key vehicles will include the 1924 Miller 122, the 1929 Ford 22 Jr. Model A Roadster, the 1963 Ol’Yaller Mark IX, the 1966 AAR Eagle #31 and the 1975 Edmunds Tamale Wagon.

“Although people tend to associate different cities with car racing, Los Angeles has played one of the most consequential roles in the sport,” said Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “Our new exhibit pays tribute to this rich history and honors racing greats such as Parnelli Jones, who has been a hero to fans around the nation for decades. We are thrilled to host and recognize Parnelli at the opening night reception as one of the most successful racers to come out of Los Angeles with accomplishments in a wide range of motorsports.”

Most remembered for his accomplishments at the Indianapolis 500, Jones is often regarded as one of the most versatile racers of all time. He has won nearly every major auto racing event in the United States including six Indy Car wins, four NASCAR wins, 25 sprint car wins and 25 midget car wins. Apart from racing, Jones has operated several successful automotive-related businesses. The preview evening will conclude with an auction featuring signed Jones memorabilia.

“Legends of Los Angeles” will officially open to the public on November 10, 2018 and will run through December 1, 2019. To purchase tickets to the opening or learn more about the Petersen Automotive Museum, please visit www.Petersen.org.
