THE UNTITLED SPACE GALLERY

45 Lispenard Street Unit 1W NYC 10013

This January, The Untitled Space gallery is pleased to present ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE group exhibition, curated by gallery director and artist Indira Cesarine, featuring the work of more than 80 contemporary artists responding to the political climate in America since the election of President Donald Trump. Opening January 16th, and on view through February 4th, ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE marks the one year anniversary of the inauguration of one of the most controversial presidents in American history. In a follow up to the gallery’s critically acclaimed group show “UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN,” which opened during the week of the 2017 presidential inauguration, exhibition ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE features artwork across all mediums addressing the issues our society has faced since the election such as immigration rights, women’s rights, transgender rights, health care, climate change, white supremacy, gender equality, gun control, sexual harassment, as well as countless other issues which have given rise to mass protest throughout the United States and abroad over the past year. ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE celebrates art as activism, giving voices to contemporary artists from all backgrounds, ages and genders. Through works inspired by the controversial policies and practices of our current president, the exhibition sheds light on the challenging issues of contemporary culture in the face of the current presidential political agenda.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS

Alexandra Rubinstein, Alfonse Pagano, Alison Jackson, Alyson Provax, Ann Lewis, Anna Rindos, Annalisa Iadicicco, Annika Connor, Anya Rubin, Cabell Molina, Camilla Marie Dahl, Cara De Angelis, Danielle Siegelbaum, Daryl Daniels, Desire Moheb Zandi, Desdemonda Dallas, Dessie Jackson, Diana Casanova, Dolly Faibyshev, Domenica Bucalo, Eleni Giannopoulou, Elisa Garcia de la Huerta, Elise Vaselakis, Elizabeth Wentling, Erin Victoria Axtell, Fahren Feingold, Gabriela Handal, George Lorio, Grace Graupe Pillard, Haley R Hatfield, Hannah Stahl, Indira Cesarine, James Hsieh, Jamia Weir, Jamie Martinez, Janet Braun-Reinitz + Sarah Maple, Jen Dwyer, Joanne Leah, Joel Tretin, Joyce Ellen Weinstein, Kat Toronto aka Miss Meatface, Kate Hush, Katya Kan, Kiley Ames, Kristin Malin, Kristin O’Connor, Leah Schrager, Leslie Kerby, Leslie Sheryll, Linda Bond, Linda Friedman Schmidt, Lola Jiblazee, Lola Ogbara, Manju Shandler, Marne Lucas, Mary Tooley Parker, Michael Reece, Michele Pred, Nichole Washington, Olga Filippova, Olive Allen, Panteha Abareshi, Parker Day, Rada Yakova, Rebecca Goyette, Rebecca Leveille, Rosary Solimanto, Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Rute Ventura, Sarah Dillion, Signe Pierce, Stephanie Hanes, Tatana Kellner, Tommy Mitchell, Touba Alipour, Valerie Carmet, Valery Estabrook, Vanessa Teran, Vittorio Ottaviani, Yuri Murphy

“This is an important time to reflect upon the last year and how Trump’s presidency has impacted our society. Since the election, we have been faced with extremes living in a country which has become increasingly divisive and threatening to civil and human rights. We live in a country facing sexism, racism and discrimination across all fronts. Last January, I was honored to partner with the ERA Coalition to present exhibition UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN, one of the first exhibitions of the Resistance movement. Now, one year later, it is important to show continued solidarity in light of the issues our society continues to grapple with. It is impossible to sit back and watch as our rights crumble before our eyes. In the past year, our culture has dealt with continuous turmoil, mass shootings, increasingly disturbing accounts of gross sexual misconduct, threats to the rights of immigrants, reproductive rights, transgender rights, threats against our rights to health care, against gender and racial equality, against the protection of our environment, of internet neutrality, as well as attacks against Planned Parenthood, the EPA, the NEA and global organizations such as UNESCO. It is extremely disturbing that our cultural foundation is being rocked by the very platform that is meant to protect and serve our nation. The exhibition ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE give voices to artists from all backgrounds, genders and ages in light of these controversial issues that have brought millions to the streets in protest. Throughout history, art has always played a significant role when it comes to representing the sentiments of the populace. It is crucial for the voices of the people to continue to be heard. The Untitled Space is honored to raise funds through this exhibition for the ACLU and support their mission to uphold civil rights and liberties in accordance to the constitution of the United States.”

Winter Season × Headaches

Many can agree that the winter season can be a headache – from shoveling snow, bearing the freezing temperatures, de-icing the car – the list goes on. However, what many don’t realize is that the chilly weather can be physically giving you a headache (all thanks to changes in barometric pressure).

With migraines being the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world, it’s important that people understand their triggers and know that weather is one of the top causes of migraines.

Dr. Susan Hutchinson is a practicing migraine physician and medical advisor at MigraineX, who can discuss:

• ‘Tis the Season for Migraines – Are ‘Winter Headaches’ Really a Thing?

• How to Know If Weather Might Be Your Migraine Trigger

• Solutions for Weather-Related Migraines

URSZULA MAKOWSKA

Fashion blogger Urszula Makowska reveals upcoming fashion trends for 2018

As the year comes to an end, we have seen many trends dominate the market from the bold red to oversized sleeves to off the shoulder tops, etc. With the new year around the corner, we will be seeing new trends to dominate the market and it will be time to say goodbye to those 2017 trends.

New color that will dominate the market

Forget about everything, for S/S 2018, we see a new color that will dominate the market. That color is lavender. We’ve seen it all on the runway from S/S 18 runway shows. From head to toe full-on lavender or just even a pop of lavender. I know I will be wearing a lavender suit from head to toe this upcoming season. It’s feminine and chic and the ideal spring color from the pastel colors that tend to be popular in demand during this time of year.

Although lavender will dominate the market, color blocking is classic spring trend that is not going away anytime soon. Shine bright like a diamond and pair of those bold colors. You can color block with a yellow trench coat and red dress underneath. There are plenty of ways to play around with this.

Well, what about the classic trench coat? Scratch that. We used to see trench coats during the fall. Now we will see the classic trench coat in different forms like we have never seen before during the spring. Belted with oversized belts, fringed on the bottom as a detail, and definitely a variety of different colors that make this trend unique.

The classic upgrade

The classic slip dress we all loved, will no longer be classic. The classic slip dress gets an upgrade.  It’ll be the perfect dress for a night out with friends. Sexier and edgier it’ll be the one piece we will want to have in our closet. We will find it in a variety of metallic colors.

Along with that, dark washed denim on denim is back. I know I definitely will invest in a two-piece set of dark washed denim. It looks so chic and is the perfect casual look for the girl out in the city. Either a jacket or pants or jacket and skirt will work just perfectly.

Fringe is still on!

Also, don’t forget to get your fringe on. Fringe is a continuous trend we will see and it is not leaving. We will see fringed feather dresses, fringe on our trench coats, and fringed tops everywhere. I will definitely get my fringe on.

As edgy and chic as I am, my favorite spring and summer trend is the sheerness. I love sheer tops and look forward to excitingly pair them with the midi skirts that are to be in style. It’s super chic and perfect for anywhere on the go.

Transparent shoes

And last but not least, my favorite trend of all times will be the transparent or translucent shoes. I have never owned a pair, but I am about to invest in a classic Yeezy’s from season 4, as it will dominate the season. Pair it with a cute two-piece set and you’re ready to go.

As we wait patiently for the F/W 19/20 trends, I can tell you for a fact we will see shades of browns, grays, and black. Layering will continue to dominate the market and anything from comfort will stay. Oversized sweaters, turtlenecks, woven pants, and puffers will be here to stay. We will see dark floral patterns and we will be bringing back goth.

Natural Habitat Adventures × China

Natural Habitat Adventures Announces New China Itinerary: More Pandas in 2018, Plus Golden Monkeys & Xi’an’s Terracotta Warriors

Natural Habitat Adventures has upped the already-intensive panda focus on its new itinerary for 2018 departures of The Wild Side of China: A Nature Odyssey. Guests will enjoy even more panda encounters on a fourth in-depth visit to China’s famed giant panda research and breeding bases.

Two more new additions include a chance to observe and photograph golden monkeys up close at a nature reserve in the Minshan Mountains, plus a visit to the famous Terracotta Army in Xi’an.

This 12-day adventure offers the most nature-intensive itinerary in China today, backed by the expertise of the world’s nature travel leader, Natural Habitat Adventures, along with its partner in conservation travel, World Wildlife Fund.

The upgraded itinerary now includes four separate visits to three of China’s panda research, rehabilitation and breeding centers. These world-renowned sites in Sichuan Province are instrumental in China’s successful efforts to bolster panda numbers. Nat Hab guests observe pandas at close range and learn in detail about their care and conservation. At Dujiangyan Panda Base, guests have the exclusive chance to volunteer with aspects of the pandas’ care, helping to prepare their food, clean enclosures and engage in other tasks that place them directly into the daily activities of the pandas’ caregivers.

Another Nat Hab exclusive is the very rare opportunity to explore native wild panda habitat. Nat Hab alone holds special permits to enter remote sectors of a virtually unvisited nature reserve deep within the Minshan Mountains, where giant pandas live and breed freely. This global biodiversity hotspot is home to some of the world’s most endangered wildlife. While giant pandas are highly elusive and virtually never seen, the possibility does exist – and guests have better chances to see other rare wildlife such as moon bears, takin, blue sheep, serow and golden pheasant.

At another nature reserve new to the revamped 2018 itinerary, guests enjoy close-up viewing of a large habituated family troop of golden snub-nosed monkeys. It’s a rare opportunity to see and photograph this endangered species that is endemic to a very limited part of central and southwest China.

Scenery takes center stage on a full-day visit to Jiuzhaigou, China’s most renowned national park that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and UN Biosphere Reserve. Walks along scenic boardwalks through a high mountain valley reveal colorful birds and dramatic natural features including steep peaks, ravines, forest, meadows, marshes, wildflowers, and numerous lakes and waterfalls. The park’s karst geology has created a series of terraced limestone pools filled with turquoise water flowing over ledges in crystalline cascades.

On the cultural side, guests enjoy an unhurried visit to the famous Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, the ancient Silk Road trading center. One of the most remarkable archaeological finds in history, the site consists of 8,000 life-size soldiers, 100 chariots and 600 horses, none of which is identical. The clay and ceramic army was built to guard the massive mausoleum complex of China’s first emperor who lived from 259–210 B.C.

The itinerary also includes an overland traverse of the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in northwestern Sichuan where Tibetan villages, prayer wheels, chortens and colorful prayer flags dot the landscape. While dining in the home of a Tibetan family, guests gain insights into this deeply traditional culture.

The per-person double rate, excluding international airfare, is $10,995. The gateway is Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province. Nine departures are scheduled in 2018, of which four are specially designated for photographers. The Wild Side of China Photo Adventure is a photography-focused immersion guided by a naturalist Expedition Leader who is also an expert nature photographer and photography instructor.

All trips are accompanied by a North American NHA Expedition Leader plus a native Chinese naturalist guide whose local expertise enhances the experience immeasurably. This outstanding guide-to-guest ratio ensures expert interpretation and plenty of personalized attention. Optional extensions to Beijing and the Great Wall, or an extra day in Chengdu, can be arranged.
