Swizz Beatz Brings No Commission Art Gallery Platform to Europe’s Cultural Melting Pot

image2

July 2017:  No Commission, the innovative art and music platform created by Grammy award winning artist and producer Swizz Beatz and BACARDÍ, has returned to Europe for the second time from the 29th June to 1st July, taking up residency in Germany’s capital city of Berlin, hailed as a global epicentre for creative talent and expression.

No Commission: Berlin is an art fair with a difference. The platform is designed specifically to support both emerging and established artists alike. All artists are given their exhibition space for free and 100% of the artwork sales goes directly back to the artists. The injection of immersive music performances from event collaborator BACARDÍ, shakes up the traditional art fair, creating a unique, cultural experience for visitors that celebrates the fusion of sonic and visual art forms.

Taking place at Kraftwerk Rummelsberg, No Commission: Berlin is the organiser’s most spectacular production to date. Drawing inspiration from the Golden Era of 1920s Berlin when artistic and intellectual life flourished, the organisers present an epic line-up of global artistic and music talent including Major Lazer, Kitty Cash, Virgil Abloh, Honey Dijon and Bakery (Noah Becker’s band).

No Commission: Berlin offers an art entry point for everyone, from original one-off pieces to an exhibition of affordable prints from the Heliotrope Foundation, founded by artist Caledonia ‘Swoon’ Curry.

Artists featured at No Commission: Berlin include: Jonas Burgert (Germany), Jens Einhorn (Germany), Wendy Fulenwider Liszt (US), Jaybo Monk (Born in France, works in Berlin), Jayson Musson (US), Semra Sevin (Germany), Nadine Ijewere (UK) Felipe Pantone (Argentinian-Spanish) and Ming Smith (US).

ROLLS-ROYCE ANNOUNCES ‘THE JOHN LENNON PHANTOM V’ RETURN

Today, Rolls-Royce has announced that it will celebrate the 50th anniversary year of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in its own way by bringing the colourful Rolls-Royce Phantom V, famous for being owned by John Lennon, back home to London for the British public to see.

Currently owned by the Royal British Columbia Museum in Canada, ‘The John Lennon Phantom V’ will travel from Canada to London to join ‘The Great Eight Phantoms’ – A Rolls-Royce Exhibition, at Bonhams on Bond Street, an area visited regularly by Lennon in the late 1960s in this very car.

Members of the public will be able to see ‘The John Lennon Phantom V’ at Bonhams from 29 July to the 2 August.

‘The John Lennon Phantom V’

On June 3, 1965 – the same day that Edward H White left the capsule of his Gemini 4 to become the first American to walk in space – John Lennon took delivery of something rather special. It was a Rolls-Royce Phantom V in Valentine Black. He would later say that he always wanted to be an eccentric millionaire, and the Phantom would become an important step towards that dream.

Lennon had the Phantom V customised in true rock-star style. The rear seat was converted to a double bed, a television, telephone and refrigerator were installed, along with a ‘floating’ record player and a custom sound system (which included an external loud hailer).

Then, in April 1967, just as the recording of the game-changing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was finishing, Lennon asked Surrey coachbuilders, JP Fallon, to give the Phantom a new paint job. The freshly-painted Phantom was unveiled days before the worldwide release of Sgt. Pepper’s on 1 June and it seemed part of the overall concept of the album.

The new colour scheme is often described as ‘psychedelic’ and certainly the colours, particularly the dominant yellow, reflected the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. But look carefully and you will see it is no random swirl, but a floral Romany scroll design, as used on gypsy caravans and canal barges, with a zodiac symbol on the roof.

The Phantom V was used regularly by Lennon until 1969 (Lennon also owned a slightly less conspicuous all-white Phantom V). Having used it, pre-paint change, to collect his MBE with his bandmates in 1965, he then used it again in 1969 to return his MBE to the Palace, in protest against, among other things, the Vietnam War. The car was shipped to the USA in 1970 when Lennon moved there and was loaned out to ferry other rock stars around such as The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Moody Blues. In 1977, after a period in storage, donated by billionaire Jim Pattison to the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

‘The Great Eight Phantoms’ – a Rolls-Royce Exhibition, will take place at Bonhams international flagship saleroom and galleries in New Bond Street, London, from 29 July to the 2 August. You can follow the progress of this story on social media by using http://www.press.rolls-roycemotorcars.com/rolls-royce-motor-cars-pressclub/article/detail/T0272363EN/rolls-royce-announces-the-great-eight-phantoms%E2%80%99-%E2%80%93-a-rolls-royce-exhibition-will-be-at-bonhams-and-sir-malcolm-campbell%E2%80%99s-phantom-ii%E2%80%99-will-be-third-great-phantom-to-join-exhibition

ANDREW CAREY IRVING

360 MAGAZINE #MCM

LEO/49yro/Creative Director at And Company

We had an opportunity to chat with Andrew about his🔥 (lit) Instagram and what inspired most of his photos.

“I love photography, and some of my favorite photographers are Mert + Marcus, Harry Benson, Herb RittsSteven Klein, and Jason Bell (who I worked with on the ad campaign for “The Crown” on Netflix). As a creative director for entertainment advertising, I’ve directed over 100 photo shoots with people ranging from Al Pacino, Missy Elliot, Drew Barrymore, Zendaya, Taye Diggs, and Helen Mirren.

I shoot everything on my iPhone–it’s always there, easy to use, and takes pretty good pictures. I use VSCO app for editing; it’s a free app that pro photographers use, and has filters that are more subtle than the ones on Instagram.

Why do I take so many pics of myself? When inspiration strikes, I need a model that is right there, is patient, does what I say, is kinda cute, and doesn’t charge me for their time. So that’s me! I’ll set up the shot, place my iPhone on whatever’s handy–an old Starbucks cup, the base of a street sign, a window ledge–set the timer for 10 seconds, and…bam!

Clothing-wise, I’m inspired by the understated elegance of Helmut Lang, clean lines of Alexander Wang, sporty comfort of Zanerobe, and the accessibility of Target. I try to feature my shoes in my pics, since I am a sneaker head: I have over 100 pairs of sneakers from Adidas to Louboutin to Zara so I can coordinate my shoes with whatever I’m wearing.

Next projects: a book on everything I’ve learned directing photo shoots, and a photo exhibition on androgynous guys in NYC–their beauty, style and courage intrigues me and I want to explore their world and help give them a voice.”

#SWOLEMATE

Fitness Expert Shares Benefits of Working Out with Your Sweetheart

We all know that exercise is good for you, but did you know that it can actually improve your relationship? Working out with a sweetheart has more benefits than you may realize. By becoming your honey’s swolemate, you will find a renewed emotional bond, attractiveness, and confidence.

When my husband and I started dating, he asked me to go with him to the gym to “spot” him.  Spot?! What does that even mean? Although today I am a personal trainer, back then my workout experience was limited to phys-ed in high school, and a yoga class that I went to once and hated. Danny however, was a gym regular and I was very intimidated at the idea of trying to appear like I knew anything about working out.  He obviously worked heavier weights, focused on different muscles and I was more of a cardio girl back in those days. I actually didn’t like weight lifting, but I went along because it was our time together.

I noticed that there was something different about doing a physical activity together as compared to sitting watching a movie.

Although any friend or loved one can be your swolemate, there is a double benefit if it is your significant other.  Here are just a few of the benefits:

1. It increases your emotional bond.  When you workout next to someone else, your body naturally tries to sync with the other person’s level of physical activity. As long as both people feel safe, their brainwaves, heartbeat and energy will begin to vibrate at the same frequency.

2. It makes you physically more attracted to each other. Want to appear more attractive in the eye of your honey?  The physiological effects of exercise mirror the same effects of romantic attraction: sweaty palms, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and a rush of feel-good hormones. You can use these wonderful benefits to your advantage by scheduling date night at the gym.

3. It boosts the results of your workout and improves your confidence. Because humans are social creatures, the mere act of being in the presence of someone increases your effort and ability to do an activity. You may not be doing the exact workout but his/her presence boosts your energy and you get a better workout.

Not only do Danny and I work out together regularly, we teach couples and families how to stay fit together with a program we created call the Yoke Training System. Over the years Danny and I have tried swing dancing, evening walks, traditional gym workouts and even yoga classes (yes, I went back!). We may not always like the same activity but we give it a try until we find something we enjoy and fits into our current life’s agenda. The greatest thing you can do is stop worrying about weight loss and waistline and just have fun with your special swolemate.

 ABOUT DANNY & DENISE LOCSIN:

Husband and wife team Danny and Denise Locsin are fitness experts that specialize in relationship and family exercise. They are the creators of the Yokebar, which has been described as the ultimate family exercise program. As a busy mother of four, Denise wanted something that was high intensity, but also safe and easy to set up. Finding a system that could adapt to a variety of fitness needs and ability levels was challenging. The requirements became even broader when Danny injured himself and was forced to give up his usual exercise routine.

After much scientific research and testing, Yokebar was born. Today, Danny and Denise train people in the Yoke Training System and also are the founders of Hi5 Produce, a leading corporate produce delivery service located in the Silicon Valley.

All-New Content to MARVEL LEGACY!

Marvel Legacy is changing the way you read comics – and the future of the Marvel Universe. This fall, Marvel, is proud to present MARVEL PRIMER PAGES!, three all-new pages of comic content written by Robbie Thompson (Silk, Doctor Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme) with a majority of art from acclaimed superstar Mark Bagley (The Amazing Spider-Man, All New X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man). These stories will draw all readers into the Marvel Universe like never before. And at no extra cost to the reader, what better way to change the way readers jump into a series!

Featured in select Marvel Legacy issues, each story provides easy access into the world of each title character, as well as easy access into the Legacy stories. Designed to give brand new readers a hook into the series, MARVEL PRIMER PAGES will offer all fans a simple jumping on point for almost all of Marvel’s heroic and iconic characters.

“When I first approached Robbie and Mark to do these Primer stories, I gave them only one edict: to remind all readers both who these characters are and what they’re about in three all new pages,” said Marvel editor Darren Shan. “What we got back has been some of the most fun art I’ve ever seen from Mark! And we couldn’t be luckier to have someone like Robbie to cherry pick the most classic moments in Marvel history. Then the two of them tie this all up into one perfect package.  I think everyone will love these!”

“It’s been an absolute blast working on this project — it gives me a great excuse to re-read so many of my favorite comics!” said writer Robbie Thompson.  I’ve been a fan of Mark’s for years, so to get to work with him is a dream come true. Mark takes the scripts and distills them down to their essence, finding brilliant ways to tell these stories with truly iconic images. I can’t wait for people to see what he’s done with these!”

“This Legacy gig has been a lot of fun to work on and a bit of an education…even for someone who has been drawing comics for as long as I have! I think readers will really enjoy the stories we’re revisiting,” added artist Mark Bagley.

Marvel Primer Pages give every fan the opportunity to truly “MAKE MINE MARVEL” by providing most accessible way to enjoy Marvel Comics – ensuring that long-time fans will fall in love with their favorite stories all over again, and that new fans will be drawn into Marvel’s magical universe of adventure and heroics. Coming this fall, don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of your favorite story – with Marvel Primer Pages!
