VICTORIA FUTRELL GOODE

Today, we pay tribute to the memory of Victoria Futrell Goode, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was affectionately known as Aunt Tora. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and enriched the lives of all who knew her.

On April 25, 1927, in Potecasi, North Carolina, Victoria was born to Magnus and Virginia Vergie Bradley Futrell. She received her formal education at Potecasi Grade School and continued on to W. C. Creecy High School in Rich Square, North Carolina, where she graduated in 1945. Victoria was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Potecasi, where she quickly learned that the Lord knows her name.

On March 2, 1950, Victoria married the late Raymond Goode, of Seaboard, North Carolina. They were married for over 50 years, and were devoted to each other until his passing in 2003. Their union was blessed with 7 children: Diane, Eloise, Joyce, Raymond, Denise, Cynthia and Angela. The couple raised their family in Brooklyn, NY, where they met, after migrating from the south. They were surrounded by extended family and maintained their strong ties back home in North Carolina. Victoria joined Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York where she worshiped and fellowshipped for many years. One of her favorite church hymns was One Day at a Time (Sweet Jesus). Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:6, In all thy ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.

Throughout her life, Victoria was a housewife, but because of her love of children and her desire to be a teacher, she worked as a family daycare provider and also cared for her friends and neighbors’ children. Victoria was a woman of faith who had a big heart and would share whatever she had with anyone in need. She was always a caregiver, and in this way, she served her loved ones and close knit community of Clinton Hill /Fort Greene, Brooklyn, for many years. Even in her last days, she was more concerned about how her family was managing during the COVID 19 pandemic, while they were only concerned about her.

Victoria was the matriarch of the Goode family. Her values and principles have been permanently imprinted in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was an example of grace, dignity and kindness. Victoria always had a kind word for her friends and neighbors and those who needed it. Her timeless wisdom and loving words will always be with us. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, Victoria exited this life and entered eternal rest. In addition to her parents, and beloved late husband Raymond, she joins her late sisters, Magnolia, Rosette and Henrietta and her brother Magnus. She also joins her great-grandson, Liam and great- great- grandson Messiah.

With her service on Earth now complete, Victoria leaves behind her children: Diane, Eloise, Joyce, Raymond, Denise (husband Patrick), Cynthia (husband Kelvin), Angela, and her dear niece Maudie, who loved her like a mother; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

ROLLS-ROYCE SOLAR ELIPSE CELEBRATION

ROLLS-ROYCE CELEBRATES TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE WITH GHOST

  • Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, NA celebrates Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis with the total solar eclipse as backdrop
  • Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis created by the Bespoke Design team in Goodwood, England was inspired by the dramatic spectacle and mystery of a total solar eclipse
  • The stunning animated Starlight Headliner adds a true sense of theatre and wonder as one observes the spellbinding solar phenomenon
  • The total solar eclipse passed over the Niagara on the Lake region from 3:22 pm to 3:28 pm on Monday April 8, 2024 an event that will not occur for another 24 years
  • Rolls-Royce Spectre, the newest member of the family joined the event

“The creative concept for Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is drawn from the impressive natural show of a total solar eclipse; a unique occasion in nature, which underpins the rarity and visual impact of a Rolls-Royce Private Collection. Our Bespoke Collective of designers, engineers and craftspeople in Goodwood have captured the magic of this celestial alignment in a truly stunning Rolls-Royce interpretation. Our event at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, celebrates this magnificent phenomenon.”

Martin Fritsches, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, NA

A total solar eclipse is a truly rare occurrence. From 2011 to 2050, only six dates will see such an event. Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective captured the fascinating nature of this phenomenon in the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection incorporating stunning Bespoke features inspired by a total solar eclipse. Only five Ékleipsis commissions have been delivered to clients in North America.

Today, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars celebrated the event, showcasing Ghost and Spectre at an exclusive total eclipse showing in Niagara on the Lake Ontario Canada.

For nearly four minutes, the majesty of the natural phenomena stood as the backdrop for the beautiful vehicles. For As the marque’s Super Coupé and first all-electric offering, Spectre presented yet another stunning backdrop to the eclipse.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presented the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection inspired by this seldom-seen wonder of a solar eclipse. Harnessing the incredible forces of this celestial phenomenon, these exquisite commissions explore the captivating interplay of light and darkness, recreating the awe-inspiring moment when the Moon completely obscures the Sun.

EXTERIOR: GOLDEN DARKNESS

The mysterious, ethereal light cast by a total solar eclipse is captured in the Lyrical Copper exterior color of the motor car. This stunning bespoke finish incorporates powdered copper pigment, which appears darker until it catches the light when it produces a rich and dramatic iridescence. Mandarin adorns the inserts below the Pantheon Grille and brake calipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight witnessed as the eclipse progresses. The same Mandarin hue is used for the hand-painted coachline, which includes a delicate abstract representation of the transition from sunlight to darkness as the Moon approaches to cover the Sun.

ANIMATED STARLIGHT HEADLINER

The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis features a fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner with a special animation that, like the eclipse that inspires it, gives those inside a true sense of awe and wonder. As the coach doors close and the engine is started, the ‘stars’ in the Starlight Headliner darken and a mesmerising sequence begins, replicating the totality of the solar eclipse, when the dark silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the bright light of the Sun.

ILLUMINATED FASCIA AND ‘DIAMOND RING’ TIMEPIECE

The illuminated fascia of Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is adorned with 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A single Bespoke designer had sole responsibility for adjusting the individual size and position of each ‘star’ to create the mesmeric effect; a delicate and exacting process that took over 100 hours to complete.

The composition culminates in a Bespoke timepiece, which incorporates a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, recalling the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect, when a single, dazzling point of light can be seen on the Moon’s outline in the split seconds just before and immediately after it obscures the Sun.

Zurich – Europe’s Creative Hotspot

Perhaps better known for its quaint, historic old town and its charming character, Zurich is also a vibrant, 21st-century global city, home to some of the most dynamic art, culture, design, nightlife and gastronomy in Europe. New urban developments continue to pop up across Zurich’s outlying neighborhoods, attracting the likes of young entrepreneurs and artists across the city, such as in the trendy Altstetten district in the west of Zurich.

The former workshops of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in the Altstetten district are currently being transformed into Werkstadt Zürich (“Werkstatt” translates to “Garage” and “Stadt” translates to “City”), a multi-use space that features housing, commercial spaces, art studios, workshops, pop-ups, restaurants, coffee shops and cultural venues, as well as offices for start-ups, tech companies and more. With the goal of becoming a mini Silicon Valley of sorts, this new destination is attracting young entrepreneurs and trendy new shops, many of which have already opened their doors. The project is set to be fully completed by 2025, but many companies are already calling Werkstadt Zürich home.

Their main focus is on sustainability and using only all-natural ingredients, such as wheat protein and Swiss honey.

Beyond Werkstadt, the Altstetten district is a destination in and of itself for its thrift shops and unique finds for any traveler. In the summertime, visitors can explore the nearby island, Werdinsel on the River Limmat, where locals love to take a refreshing jump into crystal clear water at the end of the day.

BEYONCÉ’S COWBOY CARTER

Beyoncé, who has won the most Grammys ever, has set numerous records with her Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records release of her 8th studio album, Cowboy Carter [CC]. It’s the most streamed album in one day on Spotify for 2024. CC’s industry disruption is due to its 76.13 streams.

The remake of Dolly Parton’s Jolene, Protector f/ daughter Rumi Carter, Smoke Hour f/ Willie Nelson, and the duet with Miley Cyrus II Most Wanted has been highly praised by listeners.

Although the Queen has received massive pushback for not being an actual country music artist, the Bey Hive has fired back by reminding naysayers that she hails from the South. ABC News broadcasted a segment that documented her impact in the entertainment industry, highlighting her four performances at the Houston Rodeo from 2001 to 2007 (both solo and with Destiny’s Child).

Mrs. Carter’s entry into Western has brought about more attention and streams for a group of black and marginalized artists who have been ignored by the community for decades. Historically, country music is deeply rooted in African culture and black music. It is derived from bluegrass, hymns, and jug bands. Furthermore, the banjo is a musical instrument that is rooted in West African culture. A biracial musician from Greensboro, Rhiannon Giddens, who has been awarded a Grammy and Pulitzer Prize, uses a riff on the minstrel banjo for the Texas Hold’em intro. It has created a frenzy on TikTok with a line dance challenge. Moreover, Robert Randolph plays steel guitar on the emotionally charged yet epic 16 Carriages.

Manhattan Beach native Tanner Adell collaborates on Blackbiird (a remake of The Beatles), and it sounds good. She even called upon the magnificent Raye, a six-time Brit Award-winning artist, to help write Riverdance.

Overall, Beyonce is a powerful performer who continues to transcend. Her immense talent is undeniable, and regardless of whether you respect her entry into the southern secular arena, she continues to conquer.

Despite the craze surrounding Cowboy Carter, Beyonce gracefully hosted a CD signing at Tower Records in Shibuya, Japan, with her longtime bodyguard Julius, publicist Yvette Noel-Schure, and husband Jay-Z present.

Another heartfelt moment is when FAMU yodeling scholarship recipient, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and CMA performer K. Michelle tweeted a heart-felt letter bundled with a bouquet of flowers from Beyoncé. It acknowledged the former R&B diva’s transition to pop country and how both of them have had to endure harsh criticism in the male-dominated field.
