Surprising side-benefits of Glucosamine for Cardiovascular Health

A new study published on May 14 in the British Medical Journal has found a surprising side-benefit of regularly taking the supplement glucosamine for osteoarthritis symptoms: Long-term usage also strengthens cardiovascular health and reduces the risk of heart attack death by 22 percent.

The prospective study of approximately 466,000 subjects showed that people who took glucosamine for an average of seven years had an 18 percent lower risk of heart disease; a 15 percent lower risk of heart attack or stroke; a 22 percent lower risk of heart attack death; and a 9 percent lower risk of stroke.

“Either side of this equation is a win-win for patients,” says board certified internist Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, a leading expert in treating chronic pain and fatigue. “Glucosamine is clearly one of the most effective non-pharmaceutical treatments to decrease heart attack and stroke risk safely and naturally, and the only side-effect is that it reduces or totally eliminates arthritis pain.”

“With major studies showing that arthritis medications cause 30,000 – 50,000 US deaths annually, it’s time to rethink how we treat pain,” explains Dr. Teitelbaum. “Offering benefits for one condition while creating side-effects that can kill you is not good medicine!”

“Although arthritis medications (NSAIDs) can be worthwhile when natural remedies are inadequate, simply using the natural remedies first for a six-week trial could save upwards of 70,000 US lives every year.” According to Dr. Teitelbaum, major studies have shown that glucosamine combined with chondroitin was essentially equivalent in effectiveness to Celebrex.

Other studies have shown that a combination of the botanicals curcumin and boswellia was even more effective than Celebrex for arthritis; and this herbal mix is also associated with significant cancer protection and other important health benefits.

“Botanicals have been used as medicine for centuries,” says Dr. Teitelbaum, “and now research suggests that they’re also the medicine of the future. Especially today, the public and physicians are desperate for safe alternatives to opioids for effective pain relief.”

Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, is the best-selling author of From Fatigued to Fantastic! (Avery), Pain-Free 1-2-3, The Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Solution, Real Cause Real Cure, Diabetes Is Optional, and the Beat Sugar Addition NOW! series.  He is the lead author of four groundbreaking research studies on effective treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and fibromyalgia using an integrative treatment approach called SHINE. His research on ribose, a unique 5-carbon sugar, showed an average 61 percent increase in energy at 3 weeks

Earning Money Via Your Phone: Three Best Options

In the world where technology is the main pillar, almost every person strives to keep up with the ever-changing technological trends. That’s why each of us has a cell phone, and in most cases, we pick modern as well as highly functional versions. Accessing Internet via one’s phone is something incredibly commonplace — we do that when we are bored at home, when we’re travelling, and even when we’re at work. The amount of time spent on mobile Internet is staggering! How about earning money when you’re doing it, though?

There are three best and easy ways in which you can make money with your phone. First, you can download various applications and get paid for it. Second, you can try online casino – games like slots can be both stimulating and profitable, so visit website http://slots.io/ to learn which of them are available and pick the one you think is most interesting. Finally, you can solve captcha for money. Let’s regard them more thoroughly.

Downloading Applications

New companies along with independent developers often launch an application available through phone. Naturally, they want to increase visibility of their products, so they offer money to those who download them. Sure, you won’t earn much, but the income will be quite steady. Check the available list, choose preferred payment method, and start earning!

Online Casino

There are three most popular games that people choose when they join online casinos. They include the following:

· Slots

· Blackjack

· Roulette

Slots are probably the most popular choice regardless of the country, age, or gender because they require no knowledge of special strategies. They are fun and they are based on luck entirely. You can win but at the same time, you can lose just as easily. Roulette falls into the same category, though it’s a bit more serious. You need to learn about different types of bets, such as inside and outside ones, and if you want to earn actual money, you have to be observant and daring.

Blackjack is the most difficult game because it requires memorizing lots of strategies for best results. So, it can bring money but you’ll have to work hard and learn a lot before you can do that. In any case, you’re guaranteed to have a great time, and money will be an additional bonus.

Captcha Solving

Ever saw captcha? Solving it is very annoying. But when you actually earn money for it, it gains an unexpected allure! You’ll be surprised to learn how many options there are. Look for sites or install a captcha application on your phone. The tasks are never-ending, so you’ll be earning for as long as you want!

As you can see, earning money via your cell phone is easy. Pick any of the three described options and start making money. Stay realistic, though. If you want a chance to earn an actual fortune, online casino is the best bet. Captcha and applications download are good as a part-time income.

Save Journalism Project Launches To Protect Our Press From Big Tech

BuzzFeed Reports on Recently Laid Off Journalists Serving  As Spox For New Campaign To Save Journalism From Monopolistic Power of Big Tech Companies

Today, BuzzFeed reports on the Save Journalism Project that’s launching to raise awareness and engagement about the critical need to save journalism as it faces an existential threat—the monopolistic power of big tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple destroying the economic model of the entire journalism industry, whether its traditional circulation newspapers or digital news outlets. At the same time, Google and Facebook have made acquisition after acquisition, gaining a monopolistic position that lets them dominate the digital advertising marketplace and distribute massive amounts of content from news publishers on their platforms without paying to produce the content. Just now are Facebook, Google, and other tech giants facing federal government and Congressional antitrust scrutiny.

Two recently laid off reporters will serve as spokespeople for the Save Journalism Project, Laura Bassett  and John StantonLearn More and Join the Fight at SaveJournalism.org and@SaveTheNews.

BuzzFeed: These Reporters Lost Their Jobs. Now They’re Fighting Back Against Big Tech.

“John Stanton and Laura Bassett are warning about what they believe the tech industry is doing to journalism, as thousands have lost their jobs this year alone.

By Rosie Gray”

Two prominent reporters who were recently laid off from digital media outlets are forming a new advocacy group formed to raise awareness about big tech’s impact on the journalism industry.

John Stanton, a longtime congressional correspondent and former BuzzFeed News Washington bureau chief, and Laura Bassett, a former culture and political reporter for nearly 10 years at the Huffington Post, have teamed up to launch a new initiative called the Save Journalism Project. The two have first-hand experience with the troubled state of the news industry: Stanton was laid off from BuzzFeed News during a round of layoffs that affected 200 people company-wide this winter and spurred a unionization drive among the news staff. Bassett lost her job in similar fashion in January after Huffington Post laid off 20 employees as part of larger cuts at its parent company, Verizon Media.

This year has been one of the worst in recent memory for journalism jobs. Across the industry, thousands have lost their jobs: from BuzzFeed News, Vice, CNN, and others across the country at local publications. Media organizations have been imperiled by crashing advertising revenues as Facebook and Google vacuum up available ad dollars.

Their new project will be set up as a nonprofit, according to Eddie Vale, a Democratic consultant whose firm is providing the man-power to launch the effort. Vale pitched Bassett on the idea, and the two of them brought in Stanton. Vale said initial funding had been secured from “someone who doesn’t want to be public so Google and Facebook don’t go after them,” and the group plans to continue to fundraise. So far, the pair have co-authored testimony given to the Senate Judiciary Committee highlighting the tech giants’ impact on the news industry — “since being laid off, we’ve made it our mission to understand how the digital marketplace works and how Big Tech is killing the journalism industry,” they wrote — flown a plane above Google’s I/O conference, and authored op-eds.

A key part of their goal is to get journalists, who aren’t known for showing a keen interest in the business side of their publications or for engaging in advocacy themselves, to take an active role in defending the future of their jobs. In an interview, Stanton said they were “trying to educate the public and members of Congress and also start encouraging our colleagues to speak up.”

“Reporters are not generally super interested in speaking about their own problems and about things that affect them directly because they feel like it becomes a conflict of interest, and in certain ways that’s true,” Stanton said. “But when the future of the free press is being pretty seriously endangered by something, I think it’s incumbent upon us to stand up for ourselves.”

Like many reporters, Bassett said she had “never really had to pay attention to the financial side of journalism.”

But “after getting laid off, I started to become really interested in why all of these amazing news publishers were sort of going under, having to lay off staff, why we were losing local newspapers. It’s a tragedy, it’s really bad for democracy.”

Their effort comes at a time of increased scrutiny of the tech industry on the part of the federal government as well as Congress as public concern mounts over repeated privacy scandals, technology companies’ role in spreading misinformation, and their dominance over certain industries. The Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission reportedly made a deal to divide potential antitrust investigations between them; Apple and Google will fall under the purview of the DOJ, while the FTC took Facebook and Amazon. The House Judiciary Committee announced it would “conduct a top-to-bottom review of the market power held by giant tech platforms.”

The Save Journalism Project’s founders are hoping to steer the public conversation around the negative effects of Big Tech towards its impact on journalism.

Stanton, who lives in New Orleans, mentioned examples like that city’s local paper, the Times-Picayune, which laid off its entire staff last month. Around the country, Stanton said, “local reporters are so overtaxed. They’re doing as good a job as they can but there’s not enough of them.”

At the moment, Stanton and Bassett are more focused on warning the public and the industry about the issue than on proposing solutions.

“I do think that everyone is starting to see a need to break up and regulate these companies or something along those lines,” Bassett said. “And with regards to how they’re going to make journalism viable again, I don’t frankly know…I think right now we’re starting with just getting this conversation out into the public and making people aware of exactly what’s going on. I do hope at some point we graduate into saying, ‘here’s a list of policy proposals, here’s exactly what needs to happen.'”

Stanton and Bassett plan to interview elected officials, candidates and colleagues in the media about the industry’s crisis, and started with conducting on-camera interviews with Reps. Mark DeSaulnier and Ruben Gallego. They plan to circulate a letter with which media companies can sign on to their cause. And their first official event will be at the annual Congressional Baseball Game, where they plan to distribute a physical newspaper laying out the problems on their agenda.

“The DC press corps is a really powerful constituency within our industry,” Stanton said. “If we can get our colleagues [there] to start talking about this it will help more broadly.”

Ram Heavy Duty / Jeep Gladiator

Jeep and Ram brands both set full-year records in 2018 with sales up 17% and 7%, respectively. Both brands are poised to continue that momentum with the the return of a truck to Jeep’s lineup and the latest Ram HD that has once again set the benchmark for performance, capability, technology and luxury.

The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty is the most powerful, most capable pickup in the segment with a towing capacity of 35,100 lbs. and a payload capacity of 7,680 lbs. Driving it all, a never-before-seen torque rating of 1000 lb.-ft. from the Cummins I-6 Turbo Diesel engine. The new Ram Heavy Duty also sets benchmarks in ride and handling, luxury, materials, innovation and technology extending well past any competitive offerings. Giving maximum effort all day, every day with confidence, the new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty line of pickups steps forward with the full force of modern capability.

The all-new 2020 Jeep® Gladiator – the most capable midsize truck ever – builds on a rich heritage of tough, dependable Jeep trucks with an unmatched combination of rugged utility, authentic Jeep design, open-air freedom, clever functionality and versatility, best-in-class towing and 4×4 payload, advanced fuel-efficient powertrains, superior on- and off-road dynamics and a host of innovative safety and advanced technology features.

2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine

The all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with eTorque technology is rated a best-in-class 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque and mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine’s torque output surpasses that of the V-6 engine offered in Wrangler. An all-new eTorque system improves fuel economy, launch performance and driver comfort during start/stop operations.

The eTorque system’s hybrid functions include auto stop/start, electric power assist, extended fuel shut-off, transmission shift management, intelligent battery charging and regenerative braking. Both the engine and fuel flow may be turned off during stops, coasting or when the engine is decelerating.

The all-new 2.0-liter I-4 engine features a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger with an electronically actuated waste gate for exceptional responsiveness and performance, even while traversing over difficult terrain. The turbo is mounted directly to the cylinder head to improve durability. A dedicated cooling circuit lowers the temperature of the intake air, throttle body and turbocharger.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine is part of the Global Medium Engine architecture family and features Double Over Head Camshafts (DOHC), dual independent camshaft timing and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (C-EGR) system. This is the first time that the combined use of a twin-scroll turbocharger, C-EGR system, Central Direct Injection and the independent liquid cooling intake of air, throttle body and turbo have been employed together. This combination of technologies enables the high levels of performance and reduces fuel consumption.

Direct injection, coupled with turbocharging, enables more efficient combustion and increased performance. The 2.0-liter I-4 engine’s fuel pump supplies the engine’s 2,900-psi high-pressure common-rail injection system. These high pressures produce better fuel atomization and allow for more precise fuel delivery than port fuel-injected systems, which in turn improves both performance and efficiency.

A variable displacement two-stage oil pump provides high oil pressure under high speed and load, but switches to a low-pressure mode for improved fuel economy during typical driving conditions. The piston cooling jet operation is managed by the two-stage oil pump to enhance fuel economy under normal driving conditions while improving durability under demanding, high-load engine operation. A large capacity oil cooler extends the oil change interval and ensures engine durability.

The cast aluminum alloy cylinder head features a central injector and high tumble intake ports. This combination provides increased charge motion and balanced airflow for improved fuel efficiency and performance. Cast-aluminum pistons with a 10:1 compression ratio have four valve pockets to accommodate the dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system. Each cylinder bore is fitted with gallery-mounted piston oil squirters to limit piston temperatures, reduce spark knock and increase piston durability.

The 2.0-liter I-4 engine features a low-pressure, sand cast-aluminum block with cast-in iron liners. The bore diameter is 84 mm and the stroke is 90 mm. Total displacement is 1,995 cc.

A water-cooled, integrated exhaust manifold helps reduce turbo inlet temperatures while providing increased engine reliability.

An inverted tooth primary chain drives both the intake and exhaust camshafts and minimizes noise. Camshafts are robotically assembled using hollow shafts and have polished cam journals to reduce weight and improve durability for start-stop engine operation. The use of hollow shafts provides a 3.5 lbs. weight reduction when compared to an equivalent solid shaft.

Select-fit main and rod bearings enable reduced clearances to help lower system oil demand and oil pumping effort. In addition, floating piston pins utilize Diamond Like Coating (DLC) for reduced friction.

The ignition system includes a high-energy ignition coil for better fuel efficiency and precious-metal spark plugs with iridium and platinum provide lasting durability. Located in the center of the cam cover, the spark plugs are easily accessible when service is required. Sodium-filled exhaust valves and plasma-coated piston rings also help extend the engine’s life and bolster durability.

The Music behind the Slot Games We Love

Rocking Out with Slot Games

When it comes to slot games, it’s fair to say that we’ve come a very long way from the original one-armed-bandit. These days, players can chose from a kaleidoscopic array of online slot machines. Gameplay styles can range from the standard format of 3 reels and 5 paylines to games with 5 reels and hundreds of paylines, and each game has its own special features and accompanying storyline. Modern graphics are truly out of this world and they are accompanied by incredible sound effects.

Slot games have become so popular that online casinos dedicate much of the space in their game libraries to this genre. And their popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed by the big guns in both the movie and music industry. We’ve seen a massive rise in the amount of brand-themed slot games that tie into to a particular movie, TV series or musical artist.

Today, we’re focusing in on music slots and the artists that are featured within them. Software developers have long been aware of the power that music has on the psyche of the player. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever come across a game that is devoid of all sound effects – of course, you have the option to turn them off, but you’re unlikely to do so; who wants to sit in total silence? Even a game of mobile blackjack will have a few bells and whistles to get you in the mood – check out http://mobile-casino.ca/games/blackjack and see for yourself. And now, not only do slots have sound effects, they have full on soundtracks.

Rock On…

..On the slots that is. Musical artists have been quick to see the benefits of allowing themselves to become the theme of a slot and have their music feature heavily within it. As previously mentioned; slot games are insanely popular. So if your music is part of a popular slot game, you’re going to get an incredible amount of exposure and potentially gain a whole new fan base.

Veteran rock bands, such as KISS and Guns N’ Roses, both have slot games dedicated to them and their music. And both have had sell out tours in the last couple of years – we’re not claiming that these two things are definitely connected, but we are saying that there are probably a lot of new, slightly younger, fans at their gigs that might not have been there pre-slot game!

Jimi Hendrix has a slot game dedicated to him, and there’s truly something magical about hearing those crazy electric guitar melodies ripping through the reels while you sit there spinning! Jimi never goes out of style and the popularity of his slot game proves it. Fans, young and old, can’t get enough of a game that provides a soundtrack that goes straight to the heart. And the right music certainly makes losing easier to bear! American Idol has got in on the slot game act too. Their slot game showcases new talent and gives players a chance to feel as though they are part of the show.

It’s no secret that rock stars live lives of extravagance and excess, and it’s no secret that most of us wish we could too. We play slot games for one reason only – to win a life-changing jackpot. So it makes sense to combine rock music with a game that has the potential to make all our wildest dreams come true. Seeing those rock stars on the reels and hearing their music while the reels are spinning is the probably best incentive ever to keep placing bets. If you want to party like a rock star, you’ve got to take risks like a rock star!

Why You Should Take a Holiday to Saint Barts

Saint Barts in the Caribbean is a hotspot for luxury and adventurous travellers. The tiny island is St Martins neighbour and gets only a small number of annual visitors. You can find some spectacular Villas in Saint Barts along the coast that are among the best in the world. If you’ve never heard of the island or don’t know anything about it, check out these reasons why you should take a holiday to Saint Bart’s this year.

Some of the Caribbean’s Best Beaches

Saint Barts has a total of 22 beaches spanning the coastline. Some are popular with locals who like to hang out with their friends in the evening. Others have a handful of resorts and vacation rentals nearby. Expect a band of white sand curving around the shore. Thick jungle borders to the one side as the gentle waves roll in on the other. You can easily find secluded beaches in Saint Barts. Rent a car and drive around the mountain roads and you’ll find your own slice of paradise. If you like surfing, head to Toiny Beach where the waves crash offshore bringing in a current to ride.

St Bart’s Doesn’t Feel Touristy

The Caribbean receives millions of tourists each year. Cruise ships dock at the popular ports and the tiny seaside down become overrun with visitors every day. The resorts on other islands burst with holidaymakers taking away the charm and charisma of the islands. Saint Barts, on the other hand, is relatively unknown. This means it only gets a fraction of the tourists compared to more popular spots like Jamaica. So, you’ll have more opportunities to see the real Saint Barts rather than the superficial touristy zones.

The Perfect Honeymoon Destination

Because of the beauty of the island, it has become a magnet for honeymooners in recent years. Saint Barts can be defined as the closest thing to a tropical paradise. You can find vacation rentals next to the coastline overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Sit in the rooftop infinity pool. Relax with a glass of wine. Then watch the sunset. Then you can get a car and drive down to town and enjoy the exceptional dining experiences. If you want to have a luxury getaway filled with romance, Saint Barts is the place for you.

The Island’s Picturesque Capital Gustavia

Saint Bart’s capital Gustavia almost resembles a fairytale-like tropical paradise. The small buildings have the island’s characteristic red roofs which make them look a little bit similar to a gingerbread house. You can walk around the capital (more of a small town) in a single afternoon. Highlights include both Fort Gustaf and Fort Karl in the northern part of Gustavia. Spend an hour or two at Shell Beach or watch the world pass by overlooking the harbour.

Yacht-Lovers Paradise

Saint Barts is a haven for exclusive luxury yachts. Wealthy owners moor up on the island after cruising around the Caribbean. You can stand in the harbour and count hundreds of yachts of all shapes and sizes. Some of the larger ones cost millions of dollars. Even if you’re not a yacht owner, you can still soak up the atmosphere. Stand in the harbour and snap photos of the elegant vessels. Stroll around and read the quirky names and wave to the people on board.

Saint Barts has the Perfect Climate

It doesn’t get too hot in Saint Barts. Nor does it get too cold. Temperatures hover in the high 20s (Celsius) all year round. This is the ideal weather for wearing t-shirts and shorts and sunbathing on the beach. May and June see slightly cooler temperatures while December and January get higher temperatures. If you love the sun and want to top up your tan, Saint Barts makes the perfect holiday destination. Despite having a rainy season, you can practically guarantee good weather for most of the year.

Incredible Food

Stroll around the waterfront in Gustavia and you’ll find plenty of high-end restaurants. Some offer the catch of the day while others focus more on international cuisine. But the real culinary treat lies in the island’s unique fusion of French and Creole food. Order the grilled yellowtail snapper or warm zucchini soup with lobster fritters. If you want to try some of the more local dishes, order some street food from the vendors. You’ll feel an explosion of flavour when you bite down, and come away with a deeper appreciation of Caribbean food.

You Might Bump into Your Favourite Celebrity

Saint Martin receives the highest number of celebrities on vacation compared to its island-nation neighbours. The likes of Roman Abramovich and The Clooneys have their own private villas on the island. If you drive around, you’ll occasionally come across an enormous complex with a higher level of security than most properties on the island. These are where the celebrities spend their time. Paparazzi often follow the celebs on Saint Martin and you might see them hanging outside their villas. Because of the island’s population of just 35,000 people, you have a much higher chance of bumping into someone famous. Especially down near the waterfront or in the restaurants. Keep your eyes peeled. You never quite know who you’ll bump into.

Luxurious Holidays in Saint Barts

The island paradise allures celebrities and yacht-owners, but doesn’t see the hordes of tourists like some of its Caribbean neighbours. Visitors can book coastal villas, try a unique fusion of French-Creole cuisine and explore the quaint capital Gustavia. Check out the gorgeous white-sand beaches and keep your eyes open for famous faces.
