Lou Stone is a rising multi-instrumentalist & songwriter. Although a Londoner by birth, much of Lou’s youth was spent in Sydney, playing in local bands and exploring his ever-growing passion for music. It was while studying in Australia that Lou Stone fully realized his true calling was music, so he swiftly left Sydney behind to busk his way around the cities of Europe, performing early versions of his songs in diy mly lit streets and on metro station platforms. He now finds himself back where it all began, in London, and has spent recent years honing his craft, writing and recording, with 2019 bearing the first fruits of his output in the shape of an independently released debut EP.

Still relatively new to the scene, his rich, evocative, and versatile vocals haven’t gone unnoticed, with Lou picking up support from the likes of The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, high profile playlistings from Spotify, and of course the ears of Zero 7. Michelle Phillips Auctions California Girl NFTs

Auction includes an NFT with a private dinner with Michelle Phillips and friends.

Michelle Phillips, the vocalist behind the Mamas & the Papas, songwriter, actress, and model is auctioning her original California Girl memorabilia and her videotaped hand drawn group image through ViciNFT through June 29. In support of charity, funds go to The Painted Turtle, which offers its flagship Camp for Kids with serious medical conditions.

The video of the original drawing, the digital drawing will be included in the NFT and the original will be presented to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  There are 10 identical NFTs each for a minimum price of $10,000 dollars. Each successful initial bidder receives an invitation to have dinner at PASTINA in Westwood California, with Michelle Phillips and her friends at her favorite restaurant on September 21, 2021.  Winning bidders can each bring one guest. RODRIGO Y GABRIELA ANNOUNCE BY REQUEST US TOUR FOR FALL 2O21; INVITE THEIR FANS TO PICK THE SONGS THEY WANT TO HEAR LIVE

Grammy-winning guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are back on the road in America from September 1, their first US shows in two years. Their plans to tour their 2019 studio album METTAVOLUTION were denied by the pandemic, and Rod and Gab spent much of lockdown in the Mexican studio space, doing regular online sessions, including one-off cover versions, old album favorites, and even vegan cookery and mindfulness classes.

Thrilled to be back on the road; for this new By Request tour, the band have elected to hand over setlist selection to their American fanbase. Rodrigo says, On the Mettavolution tour in 2019, we played the whole of that album. Here we are, two years later, and we have decided to let the fans choose what songs they want to hear from us on the ‘By Request’ tour.

Rodrigo y Gabriela have posted a long list of songs on their website and their social media platforms, repertoire covering 20 years of playing their unique brand of fiery acoustic rock together; with an invitation to fans to select the songs they want to hear played live on the By Request tour. Gabriela adds: We are so excited to be getting back out on the road again. The ‘By Request’ tour puts the setlist in the hands of the fans. We can’t wait to see what songs they pick.

A voting page for fans has been set up on their website, and there will be invitations to cast votes on Rodrigo y Gabriela’s social media platforms going out later today.

David Brown Automotive has expanded into central London with a conveniently located new showroom site in the prestigious St John’s Wood area. The purpose-built retail space allows customers the chance to experience both of the brand’s flagship models; Speedback GT and Mini Remastered.

Kali Uchis Earns “Inspira Honoree” at Hispanic Heritage Awards

THE HISPANIC HERITAGE AWARDS WILL RECOGNIZE KALI UCHIS AS THE 2021 INSPIRA HONOREE, THE COLOMBIAN-AMERICAN SINGER WILL ALSO PERFORM DURING THE 34th HISPANIC HERITAGE AWARDS BROADCAST, PRESENTED BY TARGET, OCTOBER 8th ON PBS

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) announced today that fast-rising Colombian-American GRAMMY winner KALI UCHIS will be recognized as this year’s Inspira Honoree and perform during the October 8th broadcast of the 34th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. The Inspira Award was created to honor Latinx role models that provide inspiration for youth on a national stage.

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is thrilled to recognize Kali Uchis with the Inspira Award, said Jose Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of HHF.  As an international star, Kali has used her exceptional talents, authentic presence, and positive energy to inspire youth as well as proudly represent her Latinx culture. We are also excited to have Kali perform during the Hispanic Heritage Awards on PBS and join us in celebrating Latinx accomplishment, vision and culture with all of America.

Raised between Virginia and Colombia, Kali Uchis rose to prominence with her project Por Vida in 2015. Uchis’ 2018 debut album, Isolation, received widespread critical acclaim and was featured on Best Of lists in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, Vulture and many more. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Juanes, Diplo, Major Lazer, Tyler, The Creator, Daniel Caesar, Bootsy Collins, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges and more and has toured the world over, with much-lauded sets headlining at Coachella, Governors Ball, Tropicalia and Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and many others.

Classic Queensrÿche Albums Get Special Reissue

LANDMARK QUEENSRŸCHE ALBUMS ‘OPERATION: MINDCRIME’ AND ‘EMPIRE’ DUE JUNE 25 AS DEFINITIVE BOX SET COLLECTIONS

On June 25, Capitol/UMe will celebrate two landmark progressive metal albums by Queensrÿche. The breakthrough collection Operation: Mindcrime and its successful follow-up, Empire, will be released in multiple formats. In addition to the original versions remastered for CD and 180-gram vinyl 2LP, both titles will be available in expanded 2CD editions and in multi-disc CD+DVD box sets that stand as the final word on these albums, which carried the ambitious conceptual approach of such artists as The Who and Pink Floyd to a new decade and to a new hard rock audience.

Newly mastered at Abbey Road Studios, the deluxe versions of these remarkable albums bring together all the available recordings in 10′′ x 10′′ boxes that also contain DVDs of accompanying promotional videos and live performances of the albums. The live audio material revisits Queensrÿche’s worldwide headlining status during the Building Empires Tour, an 18-month trek that saw the band headline arenas after previous high-profile supporting slots on the Def Leppard Hysteria and Metallica And Justice For All tours. The Operation: Mindcrime deluxe features live audio concerts from London’s Hammersmith Odeon in 1990 and Wisconsin’s Target Center in 1991, plus a DVD that also includes the bonus track “The Making of Operation: Mindcrime” and an Operation: Mindcrime TV spot. The Empire deluxe version completes the Hammersmith Odeon 1990 concert with the live audio from the non-Mindcrime setlist. Geoff Tate, inducted into the 2020 Metal Hall of Fame, sheds new light on Operation: Mindcrime and Empire in extended interviews with noted journalist Alex Milas for the liner notes.

The deluxe versions of Operation: Mindcrime (originally released May 1988) and Empire (originally released August 1990) are available for preorder now. Ahead of — and leading up to — the releases, the celebration of these comprehensive box sets and releases includes a weekly premiere of remastered high-definition video on Queensrÿche’s official YouTube channel, HERE. With its sinister backdrops, a dramatic unfolding of characters and Queensrÿche’s high-octane stage performance, the Operation: Mindcrime HD remastered video, available now, provides a glimpse into the album’s intricate concept. The HD remastered video rollout for Operation: Mindcrime continues with Eyes Of A Stranger (May 14) and Grammy®-nominated single for Best Metal Performance I Don’t Believe In Love (May 21), all of which bring the plot to life. HD remastered video premieres from Empire are the title track, Empire, (May 28), Best I Can (June 4), Anybody Listening? (June 11), the Grammy®-nominated No. 1 rock hit Silent Lucidity (June 18) and, on release day, June 25, remastered HD videos will premiere for two more fan favorites Another Rainy Night (Without You) and Jet City Woman.  

Queensrÿche’s third studio album, Operation: Mindcrime, took the quintet to an entirely new level. The concept, revealed through the songs, revolves around the character of Nikki, a recovering drug addict disillusioned with a corrupt society. Drawn into a cult-like revolutionary group headed by Dr. X (voiced by the late and beloved British actor Anthony Valentine), Nikki is manipulated to assassinate political leaders until his friendship with nun Sister Mary finally opens his eyes to the truth. Regarded as one of the greatest concept metal albums of all time, Operation: Mindcrime was certified platinum in 1991 in the U.S. and was ranked in the Top 100 Metal Albums Of All Time by both Kerrang! and Billboard magazines. Rolling Stone included it on a similar list, noting that nearly 30 years after its initial release, Mindcrime feels eerily relevant.

Reaching No. 7 on the Billboard album chart, the follow-up, Empire, built upon the success of Operation: Mindcrime. Produced, like its predecessor, by Peter Collins (Bon Jovi, Rush, Alice Cooper), the collection features brilliant and intelligent lyrics and songwriting complemented by incredible musicianship, with songs ranging from beautiful ballads to strong melodic rockers and classic heavy fist-pumpers. A rarity at the time, Empire spawned six singles that lit up Billboard’s rock tracks chart with the Top 10 hits Silent Lucidity (#1), Jet City Woman (#6), Another Rainy Night (Without You) (#7) and Top 30 hits Anybody Listening? (#16), Empire (#22) and Best I Can (#28). The power ballad Silent Lucidity was the band’s first crossover hit, topping the Billboard rock singles chart and reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Silent Lucidity also earned a Grammy® nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and received an MTV Viewer’s Choice award. RIAA-certified triple-platinum, Empire is the band’s most commercially successful album to date.

BUGATTI’S MOST BEAUTIFUL RACER JOINS CONCOURS OF ELEGANCE 2021

An example of arguably the most beautiful Bugatti racing car, the 1934 Type 59, is coming to the Concours of Elegance from 3-5 September

In total, nearly 1,000 vehicles will be on display across the weekend as further features are revealed in the coming months

The Concours of Elegance – famed for gathering the rarest cars ever created – will showcase one of the most beautiful racing cars in existence, the Bugatti Type 59, at Hampton Court Palace this year. Taking place from 3-5 September, the event is renowned as one of the top three concours d’elegance events in the world for the quality of cars it attracts; nowhere else in the UK can the public see such a high standard of rare historic vehicles.

The Bugatti Type 59 is famed as the most beautiful of all Bugatti’s motorsport creations and one of the best-looking racing cars of all time. Unlike many cars of its time, the Type 59 opted for a shape with the width of a two-seater so the driver could sit low next to the gearbox – Ettore Bugatti didn’t like having to sit his driver high over the propeller shaft as he would have to in a tighter, single-seat body. That shape tapers into a sharp point at the tail, which itself houses the fuel tank, in between two beautifully riveted halves of metal. Every detail is perfect, right down to the signature piano wire wheels, beautifully engineered and the perfect complement to the Type 59’s proportions.

The engine was a straight eight-cylinder, with two overhead camshafts driven by a train of gears from the rear of the crankshaft, this drive also being taken to the Bugatti built supercharger mounted on the right-hand side of the engine, with two down-draught Zenith carburettors on top.

Despite its advancements, and its beautiful shape, the Type 59 was arguably too late in development to best the German competition on the Grand Prix circuits of the world. This example, #59124, had a best result of fourth at Spa-Francorchamps with Robert Benoist at the wheel. But with just six or seven built, and its enviable looks, the Type 59 remains one of the most desirable pre-war cars ever made.

Outside of the main display of vehicles, the Concours of Elegance will gather a total of around 1,000 cars in a number of special features and displays, including a Gulf vs. Martini celebration, a display of unique or bespoke modern rarities in the Future Classics class and a line-up of the finest coachbuilt Rolls-Royces. New for 2021 is a collection of 95 British cars gathered to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 95th birthday, and a 30UNDER30 Concours aimed at inspiring the next-generation of classic car enthusiasts.

Away from the automotive displays, Concours of Elegance remains an occasion of pure luxury, with champagne provided by Charles Heidsieck, picnics by Fortnum & Mason, live stage interviews with Chubb Insurance, hosted by Jodie Kidd, and a collection of art, jewellery and fashion displays. Presenting Partner, A. Lange & Söhne, recently confirmed to support the event for a further three years, will continue to showcase some of its most intricate timepieces.

Purdue Names First Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellow

Purdue Engineering names first Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellow, Yung-Hsiang Lu, professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named the first Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellow in Purdue University’s College of Engineering. 

A Purdue University professor and innovator who works to inspire the next generation of technology leaders has been named the first Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellow for the College of Engineering.

Yung-Hsiang Lu, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, has developed several patented technologies and helped his students start their own companies. He is a Purdue Faculty Scholar, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Distinguished Scientist of the Association for Computing Machinery.

We move our discoveries in the lab out to the world for impact through patents and commercialization opportunities, Lu said. This new role provides me with a great opportunity to help connect members of our engineering family with resources to move their technologies and research to communities and people in need.

Lu’s appointment comes as the College of Engineering has put a new emphasis on the importance of faculty innovation and commercialization. These entrepreneurial activities can be documented in the formal tenure review process.

Yung is the perfect fit for this position to help connect our College of Engineering with the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship and resources to support entrepreneurship and commercialization, said Wayne Chen, associate dean for research and innovation in the College of Engineering and Reilly Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Materials Engineering. We want to further develop our culture of support for faculty and students who take their research and lab work to the world through patents and startups.

Lu will collaborate with the Purdue Foundry, an entrepreneurship and commercialization hub, and the Purdue for Life Foundation. He has advised several student teams that won business plan competitions and helped a company obtain two Small Business Innovation Research grants.

Everett Berry, a Purdue alumnus who, with Lu, co-founded a company called Perceive, said he remembers fondly the professor’s belief in the ability of undergraduate innovators.

Having seen Silicon Valley inside and out by this point, I know Dr. Lu embodies the best of the entrepreneurial instinct that we celebrate, Berry said. He was my first, and still strongest, inspiration for building hard technology.

Another alumnus and former member of Lu’s research team, Zohar Kapach, started a company called Oqullo. He said Lu helped him realize his love for computer engineering and the opportunities to grow an entrepreneurial career in the field.

I continue to apply my experiences working with Dr. Lu to my daily research work, Kapach said. I was able to apply the knowledge I gained from working with him to raise a substantial seed fund.

Lu continues to work with the Purdue Research Foundation Office of Technology Commercialization to patent inventions. This office operates one of the most comprehensive technology transfer programs among leading research universities in the U.S.
