Alessia Cara – This Summer: Live Off The Floor

Grammy Award®-winning singer-songwriter Alessia Cara gives fans around the world an intimate look into her creative process and the live evolution of her deeply personal songs with the release of her new EP, THIS SUMMER: LIVE OFF THE FLOOR, available at all platforms today via Def Jam Recordings. Each song on the live EP will be accompanied by a new music video, shot in the studio where they recorded the EP.

Alessia also recently announced she will be donating her share of net royalties to Save the Children for the next 21 years. She explained her decision further on this Instagram post: “I put out an EP last September and shortly after recorded a live off the floor version, which was set to come out this summer. Then the world flipped upside down, so I decided to donate all my proceeds from this EP for the next 21 years to ‘Save the Children’, a global organization that saves and improves the lives of children who have been denied their rights by ensuring they have shelter, food, protection, healthcare, and education. This includes the 12 million kids currently suffering in Yemen, Indigenous children in Canada, children of colour in vulnerable communities, and anyone who needs help across 117 countries.

Recent events have made it even more evident that we need to uplift and care for the youth as much as possible. There are so many kind, colourful, intelligent, and driven kids who don’t have access to the resources they need in order to become the best future leaders or simply live a life they deserve. We won’t see a better world unless the ones who can one day change it are equipped to fulfill their true potential. Thanks to my team for getting on board, and to the wonderful musicians who played on this record. Hope this will be a bit of light in a (for lack of a descriptive enough term) weird time. Love, Alessia”

THIS SUMMER: LIVE OFF THE FLOOR presents newly recorded live performance versions of all six songs from the original This Summer EP. Recorded in a live floor studio session with a group of masterful players, including lush string arrangements,  LIVE OFF THE FLOOR will include bonus live versions of Alessia’s landmark global hits “Here,” her triple platinum debut single, and “Scars To Your Beautiful,” her double platinum hit. Last year, Alessia thrilled fans touring her headlining show and accompanying Shawn Mendes on his world tour, and her September EP release This Summer chronicled her experiences as only Alessia could: with depth, emotion, introspection, and the wicked wit her fans have grown to love.

Most recently, Alessia performed “Rooting For You” at this year’s Juno Awards where she was the biggest winner of the night taking home Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

April 22nd marked the premiere of the #1 Netflix animated feature The Willoughbys, in which Alessia (in her first voice-over acting role) joined an all-star cast including Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, Sean Cullen, and Ricky Gervais.

2018’s “Best New Artist” Grammy Award Winning Canadian singer/songwriter and Def Jam Recordings artist Alessia Cara emerged onto the music scene in 2015 with her first release, “Here,” a global anthem that grabbed the world’s attention when it garnered over 500,000 streams on Soundcloud in its first week.  “Here” went on to become Spotify’s Most Viral Song of 2015, selling over 3 million copies.  Her five-track EP, Four Pink Walls, soon followed, leading to the release of her RIAA platinum debut album KNOW-IT-ALL (November 2015). Alessia’s multi-platinum #1 hit single of 2016, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” was her gut-wrenching take on female identity, on body image and on deleterious behaviors in the name of beauty.  “Stay” her #1 hit with Zedd sold over 2 million copies and received Song Of The Summer raves. Also in 2016, Alessia lent her voice to “How Far I’ll Go,” penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, official song for Disney’s animated film Moana.  The 4x-platinum “1-800-273- 8255,” her historic collaboration with fellow Def Jam artist Logic, was one of 2017’s landmark singles with over 9 billion streams worldwide, contributing to her being named the most-streamed new female artist of 2017.  “Growing Pains” (June 2018), was the prelude to Alessia’s second album, her critically acclaimed THE PAINS OF GROWING (released in November), which included the follow-up single releases “Trust My Lonely” and “Out Of Love.”

A JUNO award winner for 2016 Breakthrough Artist of the Year in her native Canada, Alessia went on to receive the “Rule Breaker” honor at the Billboard Women in Music annual event.  She won MTV VMAs in 2017 for Best Electronic Dance Video (for “Stay”) and Best Fight Against The System (for her multi-platinum #1 Billboard Pop Song “Scars To Your Beautiful,” which she and Logic performed with Khalid as the climactic moment of that year’s Grammy broadcast).  Alessia also won back-to-back ASCAP Pop Awards for “Stay” and “Scars To Your Beautiful”; along with Dance Song of the Year (for “Stay”) at the iHeart Radio Music Awards. She has earned nominations for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock at the 2017 American Music Awards, the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Breakout Artist, the Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist, the BET Award for Best New Artist, the BBC Award for Song of The Year, and many other top honors. Most recently, Alessia won Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year at the 2020 Virtual Juno Awards.

Cam – Classic

Grammy(r) award-nominated songstress Cam has officially announced the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album The Otherside, out October 30 via Triple Tigers/RCA Records.  The album was written over the last three years in LA, Nashville, and NYC with collaborators Tyler Johnson (Harry Styles, Sam Smith) and Grammy-winner Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Bruno Mars), who she calls her fellow “tinkerers.” The Otherside is available for pre-order now HERE.

As a pre-release treat, she also delights fans with her captivating and *classic* new single, aptly-titled “Classic,” out today. Co-written and produced with Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, St Vincent, The Chicks), “Classic” is about a relationship that transcends time and outlasts trends. “Ain’t nothin new I’m waitin for,” Cam sings, “cause they don’t make em like this anymore.” Full of warm and familiar references “like a bench in the front seat / Like a big yellow taxi / Like your best friend’s mixtape / A big limo and a prom date” to remind us how fun true love can be. “Classic” is available everywhere HERE.

“Jack and I caught something in the air that day and ran with it,” Cam says. “The track is so much fun. Jangling guitars, claps, it feels like when a group of familiar people gets back together over the holidays, clanking around after dinner with too much wine, and amidst the chatter and laughter and closeness they are really telling each other, deep down, just how much they love each other.”

Earlier this year, Cam made her triumphant return with the release of “Till There’s Nothing Left” and musician. She lent her writing voice to Miley Cyrus’ 2015 album, Bangerz, and co-wrote “Palace” with Sam Smith for his 2017 album, The Thrill of It All (the song also became the soundtrack for an exquisite Apple commercial). She broke boundaries with her bold and empowering 2017 lead single, “Diane,” and further showcased her range when she teamed up with Diplo for the genre-bending Thomas Wesley 2019 debut single, “So Long.”  She has consistently sold-out shows across the globe, cementing her status as an international powerhouse on stage. She performed alongside Sam Smith for 4 sold-out shows at the O2 Arena in London and joined him on his 2018 North American tour, opened for Harry Styles at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, delivered standout festivals sets including the coveted sunset slot at Stagecoach in 2019, headlined top venues across Europe and Australia, and performed a “game-changing” (Rolling Stone) debut-headline gig at The Ryman Auditorium. By taking risks and standing up for herself, Cam has continued to hustle and pave her own way.

Cee Kay – Cent

Emerging rapper Cee Kay releases his new single and video “Cent.” On Cee’s track, a trap beat underscores his smooth cadences leading to a rich melodic hook. This perfectly accompanies “Cent”‘s visual where he spits outside of a broken down old Arkansas haunt alongside his friends.

Cee Kay has recently attracted critical acclaim with DuJour naming Cee’s “Mona Lisa” among “our top five favorite new song releases” and wrote, “His passion and soul is clear throughout his music.” Earlier this year, Cee Kay accelerated his ascent to hip-hop’s heavyweight class with one buzzing banger after another, with his most recent intoxicating song “Drugs.” Earning critical nods, Imprint predicted he’s “geared to become a force in rap, maintaining a credo of remaining true to himself and the code of the streets.” Meanwhile, Hip-Hop Vibe crowned him, “Next To Blow Out Of The South.” The rapper put himself on the map with 2019’s Blood On My Hands. Led by “Pressure” feat. YoungBoy Never Broke Again, it has racked up nearly 10 million total streams and received praise from XXL, HipHopDX and more.

Showcasing Robert’s skills as a songwriter and a performer in his own right, “Fake Fine” sums up the trials and tribulations of living in the current climate.

Robert has developed into a hugely in-demand songwriter, having co-written tracks with Dan McDougall, Blair MacKichan, and Josh Wilkinson. KATHRYN TO BE FEATURED IN NEW DOCUSERIES CHART BREAKERS OUT THIS FALL

Singer, songwriter and recording artist Kathryn Dean (KD) released her new single “Friends (Don’t Wanna Be)” today via all digital and streaming platforms. Riddled with sophisticated, contemporary pop arrangements and showcasing KD’s Adele-matching vocal power, “Friends (Don’t Wanna Be)” marks the songstress’ first single release since her 2015 international smash hits “Told You So” and “City of Angles,” the latter of which was the #1 Indie song on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart for 7-weeks straight. Produced by veteran hit machine Sandy Vee (Katy Perry, Rihanna), “Friends (Don’t Wanna Be)” shows a more vulnerable side to KD, diving into the emotional struggles that arise within relationships – while addressing the determination to come out on the other side. The single marks the first of what will be a very healthy slate of song releases in the latter part of 2020. Get the track HERE.

As KD continues to prepare new, long-awaited music for her fans, a new docuseries is also in the works for release this coming fall. Titled Chart Breakers, the episodic series centers around KD, and hip-hop newcomer iNTeLL from 2nd Generation Wu (children of Wu-Tang Clan), and their individual journey producing a pop hit. An array of top songwriters and producers will be featured in the series, including pop-chart veteran of nearly 20 #1 hits, Sandy Vee (Katy Perry, Rihanna, David Guetta etc.) who works with KD on her track “Friends (Don’t Wanna Be),” and hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg and Method Man, both of whom work with iNTeLL.

In the docuseries, viewers will get an intimate look at both artists and their backstories, and get a sense of the joy, heartbreak and hustle that go into defining a pop sound that make each artist unique. The episodic series will culminate with a feature length documentary film set to hit the festival circuit in 2021.

Paul McCartney illustrated by Mina Tocalini for 360 MAGAZINE.

Paul McCartney – Beautiful Night

Paul McCartney today releases the ‘Beautiful Night’ EP as part of the forthcoming re-release of his acclaimed 1997 album, ‘Flaming Pie’. Due for release on July 31st, ‘Flaming Pie’ marks the thirteenth installment in Paul’s GRAMMY Award-winning Archive Collection.

The EP recreates the original 1997 ‘Beautiful Night’ maxi-single, featuring the remastered Flaming Pie single, ‘Beautiful Night’, a 1995 demo of the song, an alternate ‘Run Through’ recording, and ‘Oobu Joobu Part 5’ – a medley of Beautiful Night-themed chat, alternate mixes and interview recordings of Paul and Ringo Starr speaking about the song.A newly remastered music video for Beautiful Night, originally filmed in 1997, is also released today.

Beautiful Night marks one of the first collaborations between Paul and Ringo Starr since The Beatles. Speaking of his memories of that time, Paul said: “I’d been saying to Ringo for years that it’d be great to do something, because we’d never really done that much work together outside The Beatles. One night Jeff Lynne suggested, “why don’t you get Ringo in?” and I said, “OK!” It just sort of happened.

I had this song Beautiful Night which I’d written quite a few years ago. I’d always liked it but I felt I didn’t quite have the right version of it. So I got this song out for when Ringo was coming in, and right away it was just like the old days.”

Originally released May 5, 1997, Flaming Pie ended a four-year gap between McCartney studio albums. Recorded largely in the wake of Paul’s involvement in the curation and release of The Beatles Anthology series, Flaming Pie was shaped and inspired by that experience, with Paul remarking at the time “(The Beatles Anthology) reminded me of The Beatles’ standards and the standards that we reached with the songs. So in a way it was a refresher course that set the framework for this album.”

Produced by Paul, Jeff Lynne and George Martin and featuring a supporting cast of family and friends including Ringo Starr, Steve Miller, Linda McCartney and son James, Flaming Pie is equal parts a masterclass in songcraft and a sustained burst of joyful spontaneity. With highlights ranging from the uplifting and inspirational opener ‘The Song We Were Singing’ to the raucous title track (named for a quote from an early John Lennon interview on the origin of The Beatles’ name: “It came in a vision – a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them, ‘from this day on you are Beatles with an A.’”) to the pensive ‘Calico Skies,’ and featuring singles ‘Young Boy,’ ‘The World Tonight’ and ‘Beautiful Night,’ Flaming Pie would represent yet another pinnacle in Paul’s solo catalogue: Released to rapturous reviews, the album would be Paul’s most commercially successful release of the ‘90s, achieving his highest chart positions since the ‘80s and would receive gold certifications in the US, UK, Japan and more.

Paul’s critically acclaimed and universally beloved tenth solo album Flaming Pie will be the latest to receive the Archive Collection treatment, released on formats including a 5CD/2DVD/4LP Collector’s Edition, a 5CD/2DVD Deluxe Edition, plus 3LP, 2LP and 2CD editions.

Sewing project tiger pillow

DIY Home Sewing Projects

By Tabitha Sewer,  Brother Ambassador, Sewing and Fashion Blogger and Entrepreneur

The virus has taken a toll on all our lives this year. It has completely turned all of our goals and plans for this year upside down. Rather than wallowing in self-pity over something I have no control over, I decided to see the positive side of all of this. Since building my home a few years ago, I never had the time to style it the way I really wanted. Now, with all the time in the world, I jotted down which rooms needed a makeover and what exactly I wanted to do with them.

The first project we took on at the start of quarantine was our back patio. This space was a muddy landing under the patio that stored my husband’s tools. This space was no doubt an eye sore. Before starting, we sat down as a family and discussed what each of us wanted the outcome to look like. Since vacations were off-limits this year, it was very important to us that this space had a relaxing, tropical vibe that could transport our minds away from everything that’s going on in the world.

My husband and I created a budget, planned out each project that we would complete in this space and moved forward with completing this transformation. We hired a professional to pour and level the concrete for the foundation of our new patio. To keep costs down, my husband and I laid the marble porcelain tile ourselves and even built our own couch.

The styling of the space was easy enough since I created a mood board with elements that we desired to have in this space. In two months time, our new back patio transformed into a backyard tropical oasis. When we step into this space, we literally feel like we are walking into a resort.

Some projects around the house don’t require an extensive timeline or huge budget. There are small, inexpensive projects that can be done to elevate your home and create an impactful moment.

We have a vintage velvet couch in our home that I found at a local thrift store for only $10. When we bought it, it looked extremely tattered and was on its last leg. We tore apart the fabric and cushions and refurbished it into the blue velvet couch we have today. This couch is most definitely beautiful enough to stand alone, but when I came across some designer velvet pillows online, I thought it would pair really well with the couch. So, I decided to make them.

As a Brother Ambassador, I love being able to share my love for Brother sewing machines. I use my machines to create my handmade wardrobe as well as projects around my home. Sewing has a stigma of being a craft that our grandparents would enjoy. I’m here to tell you that sewing isn’t for your grandmother’s anymore. I like to share sewing from a millennial’s point of view; recreating designer projects for less. With social media, inspiration is all around us. Being able to sew what inspires me is something I truly enjoy. Sewing allows me to have access to the things I want without breaking the bank.

So, get after it and feel empowered to create at home. You can upcycle old jeans into shorts during this Summer heat or get quality fashion without breaking the bank. While a pandemic absolutely doesn’t mean you have to come out with a new skill, after all we are just trying to get through each day with our friends and families. But, it can be a time that we come together, inspire and create to release some steam. Here’s how I created this designer-inspired velvet pillow to match my home.

Designer-Inspired Velvet Pillow

Materials:

  • Brother Stellaire Innov-is Sewing Machine
  • Embroidered Thread in Various Colors
  • Large Square embroidery Hoop
  • Tiger Embroidery File (6 in.)
  • ½ yard Velvet Fabric
  • 1.5 yards Braided Trim
  • ½ yard Pellon Sol-U-Film Wash Away Embroidery Stabilizer
  • Sulky Self- Adhesive Tear Away Stabilizer
  • 15” x 11” Pillow Insert

Note: You can purchase your embroidery file from Etsy as there are many available options.

Instructions:

  1. Take your Pellon Sol-U-Film Stabilizer and lay it directly on top of your velvet fabric. Take both and hoop it into your embroidery hoop. Make sure both the stabilizer and fabric are pulled taut inside the hoop. The stabilizer allows your machine to embroider on top of the fabric without the threads getting lost inside the texture of the velvet. Without it, you would not be able to make out the design.
  2. Flip the entire hoop upside down and attach the Sulky Self- Adhesive Tear Away Stabilizer. Be sure to press the stabilizer onto the fabric with your hands, making sure that it stays in place. This stabilizer is important because it gives the fabric and design more stability. It helps the design hold its shape without tugging on and distorting the quality of the delicate velvet fabric.
  3. Once the hoop is set up, place it inside your sewing machine. Set your machine up for embroidery and start. Keep an eye on your machine as it stitches to make sure that your machine doesn’t run out of thread as it stitches.
  4. When your embroidery design is complete, remove it from your machine. Tear away the Pellon Sol-U-Film Stabilizer that was on top of the velvet fabric and tear away the Sulky Self- Adhesive Stabilizer that was underneath. This should be an easy process.
  5. With the tiger centered on the fabric, cut the velvet fabric in the following dimensions: 15.5” x 11.5”. Cut two.
  6. Lay your fabric with the tiger embroidery facing up, pin the braided trim along the outer edge of the front of your pillow making sure the braid is facing the center of your pillow. It may be difficult to stitch the trim perfectly around the corners of your fabric, so be sure to curve around each corner.
  7. Stitch the braided trim in place by sewing as close to the braid as possible. Be sure to remove the sewing pins as you sew along. When you get to the end of your trim, fold it towards the center of your fabric to prevent the ends from showing on the outside of your pillow.
  8. Take the back side of your pillow case, the second velvet fabric you cut previously, lay it directly on top of the first. Make sure the right side of the velvet fabric are facing each other. (The wrong sides of the velvet fabrics should be facing the outside). Pin in place.
  9. Sew around the outer edge of your pillow using the braided trim as a guide. Leave 6 inches unsewn on the bottom edge of the pillow.
  10. Turn pillow right side out. Push out all four corners of your pillow with a blunt tool being careful not to poke a hole through your fabric. Your design should now be on the outside of your pillow.
  11. Folding your pillow insert in half tightly, place it inside of your pillow case.
  12. Fold the back edge of your unsewn fabric to the inside about a ½ inch. Top stitch in place.

Calboy Clueless

Today, multi-platinum selling Chicago artist/rapper/songwriter Calboy releases a new track and visual for “Clueless.” The track is from his upcoming Long Live The Kings Deluxe project which is due out July 24th via Polo Grounds Music/RCA Records.

The release of “Clueless” comes on the heels of Calboy sharing “Rounds” ft. Brooklyn drill artist, Fivio Foreign and “Brand New” ft. King Von.

All tracks will appear on the Long Live The Kings project along with three additional new tracks, “Holy Water,” “Fake Love” ft. Polo G and “Put Em On Your Shirt” ft. Yo Gotti.

Released in February, Long Live The Kings holds special meaning to Calboy as he juggled rising to stardom last year with his 3x platinum hit “Envy Me,” while also losing six of his closest friends to violence in Chicago. The name Long Live The Kings pays tribute to his fallen friends.

On the initial release, Calboy shared what the title means to him:

“Long Live The Kings is an ode to six of my friends from Chicago who passed away last year. Each song speaks to who they were and what they stood for. It’s also a tribute to everyone we lose to senseless violence, including the most recent loss of Pop Smoke. I hope to tell their stories through my music.”

Earlier this week Calboy let fans see his artistic creativity on his Instagram, sharing a video of him working with oil paints on canvas. As a multi-talented artist, this is another passion of Calboy’s and outlet that he uses to share his life experiences and feelings as shown in his paintings.
