Fredo’s brand was established on Big Ape, his eponymous 20-song mixtape (with “Story To Tell” (Remix) and “Gangsta Talk” featuring NLE Choppa). Shortly after entering a partnership with Def Jam in the fall, Fredo issued the 16-song Pain Made Me Numb, containing the singles “Cap A Lot” and “Slidin.”

ABOUT FREDO BANG:
With his deep, barking drawl and a natural affinity for melody, Fredo Bang (Fredrick Givens) is the next rhymer to rise out the Bayou. The highs and lows of his life encompass turning down a scholarship at Texas Southern U. in order to study closer to home, and a stiff jail sentence for aggravated battery that was commuted in 2018. At age 23, the Baton Rouge native’s rhymes have now won the South. He has collaborated with everyone from YNW Melly to Moneybagg Yo to Kevin Gates. 2018’s 2 Face Bang mixtape put Fredo on the map with the breakout single “Oouuhh” and a streak of hits including “Shootas on the Roof” and “Father” (over 22 million YouTube views). The street took deeper notice in 2019, with the Big Ape mixtape and a non-stop string of regional single + video hits that included “Oouuh” Remix featuring Kevin Gates, “Gangsta Talk” featuring NLE Choppa, and “Story To Tell” (Remix) featuring Moneybagg Yo. Fredo entered into a partnership with Def Jam in the fall 2019. The hits continued unabated with “Face Down” and “Vest Up,” then “Yo Slime,” and “Waitin 4” (with a beat from Hardbody B-Eazy and DJ Chose). Fredo’s next mixtape, Pain Made Me Numb hit in November, with the single + video releases “Cap A Lot” and “Slidin.” April 2020 brought the back-to-back releases of the single + video “Trust Issues,” and Fredo’s fourth mixtape, Most Hated. Fredo’s next string of new releases, “Receipts,” “Top,” and “Monsters” point the way to his fifth mixtape, In The Name Of Gee, coming soon.

Sam Johnson – Peter Pan

Following on from the success of his previously shared single ‘The Kids Are Alright’, which landed on Spotify editorial playlists Fresh & Chill, Pop Right Now and New Music Friday in the UK, Germany and Switzerland; Apple Music’s New Music Daily in eleven countries, and named Record Of The Week on BBC Radio Shropshire, British singer and songwriter Sam Johnson has now returned to deliver his next wistful offering ‘Peter Pan’, Listen HERE.

Lifted from his forthcoming new EP ‘Are We There Yet?’, ‘Peter Pan’ follows largely in the footsteps of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ with its broad and atmospheric tones. Matching wistful piano and guitar melodies with his own rich and soaring vocals, his newest gem looks to confront the issues of addiction and depression by taking on the persona of a close friend who has experienced these feelings first hand.

Speaking about his new release, he said, “Originally written for one of my friends as a tale of his struggles with addiction and depression, my friend and collaborator Odd Martin suggested that I write the song as if his life were my own and to therefore lyrically step into his shoes, prefacing every sentence with ‘I’. Suddenly the song blossomed into an amalgamation of both our lives and experiences. Having grown up in the same town, gone to the same school, and shared lots of the same friends, my friend and I had been cut from a very similar cloth, and yet grown apart in our twenties. I likened his tale to one of my favourite novels; ‘Peter Pan’, and also my own fear of leaving childhood behind. Naming the song and constructing its metaphor around the aforementioned “boy that never grew up” therefore seemed like the perfect antidote.”

Taken from Sam’s forthcoming EP, his latest collection is set to see him grow more as an artist and a human being throughout. “I create characters influenced by what I see around me,” he says. “A lot of the lyrics are touchstones of my childhood, and where I grew up… and the people that I grew up around.”

Earlier this week Sam Johnson was announced as a member of the Ivors Academy Youth Council. The newly formed Youth Council is made up of sixteen young creators from the Academy’s Youth Network, acting as an advisory group, which will form a central role in shaping the future of the Academy. The Academy’s Youth Network, which was established last autumn, is a growing and connected community of young creators and a hub of partnerships with Universities, Colleges and other non-academic organisations. The Network aims to empower and educate young songwriters and composers of all genres, and provide a platform at the Academy to voice views on music industry issues.

A driven and relentlessly ambitious artist, Sam Johnson’s story also owes a debt to chance. Fate dealt him an unusual card when Kevin Shields – My Bloody Valentine auteur – crossed his path, taking the fledgling talent into the studio for the very first time. “That was a real moment for me… that developed my backbone. It made me want to have that element of legacy. And he made me realise that it could be done.”

A country boy lost in the big city, Sam’s music has taken him from a rural setting to the London metropolis, but he’s driven by an extraordinary sense of purpose. ‘Are We There Yet?’ is a tightly bound EP, one where each passage speaks to the next. Overseen by My Riot at RAK Studios, the production is left deliberately raw, almost unfinished, so that the songs “could breathe, without over-cluttering it too much”.

Gashi – Lies

Gashi releases his new track “Lies” today (listen here). “Lies” is the fourth track to be released from his upcoming sophomore album 1984 which is due out on RCA Records next Friday, August 7th. The 14-track 1984 album sees GASHI exploring and harboring new sounds that will bring you back to GASHI’s favorite time – the 80’s.

GASHI says of the album, “I wasn’t alive during that decade, but I connect so much with everything from that era. I love everything about 80s culture from the music to the films to the fashion and I always wished I could have experienced that time in history. My parents got married in 1984 and some of the greatest music ever made came from the 80s.  I just wanted to make music that made people feel the way I feel when I hear anything from that era.”

About GASHI

Born in Libya, GASHI spent much of his young life as a refugee, moving from country to country. His family eventually settled in Brooklyn, NY, where he was introduced to music at a very young age. GASHI absorbed a melting pot of musical influences throughout his youth, resulting in the formation of his own unique sonic palette that blends together different genres of music. His dynamic sound has allowed GASHI to collaborate with a wide range of talents ranging from Chris Brown to Travis Scott. In the last couple of years, he released his self-titled debut album, sold out venues all across the globe, and has accumulated nearly 550 million streams with over 90 million video views worldwide.

Y2K is mad talented, and it was really fun to dive into something that’s always been more of a guilty pleasure. We had a blast, and I think we made a pretty great record.”

A Year of Ta-Dah will give Scissor Sisters diehards — and the uninitiated — a reason to dance and have fun.

Scissor Sisters arrived on the New York scene as gender-blurring, sex-positive firebrands, burst onto the scene with their 2004 disco makeover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” Their debut album Scissor Sisters reached number one in the UK and was the best-selling album of 2004, later certified platinum by the BPI, and earned them three BRIT Awards in 2005. In 2006, their follow up single “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ hit No. 1 in England and, along with that year’s Ta-Dah, which the track appeared on, vaulted them to superstardom and international accolades. They’re for the trans community, by the trans community The Hotline was, and still is, the only service in the U.S. and Canada in which all operators are transgender. Because of the particularly vulnerable relationship transgender people have with police, it is also one of few services with a policy against non-consensual active rescue. Trans Lifeline also recognizes that some problems can’t be solved by emotional support alone, which is why their Microgrants program gives trans people money to legally change their name and gender alongside specialized support for trans people who are imprisoned or detained.

Scissor Sisters, both as a band and individually, have remained intrinsically connected to the fringes of queer culture throughout their career, and in particular have continued to support the queer community in their hometown of New York City. As such, the Trans Lifeline is a charity close to their hearts and they are delighted to be spotlighting them. The collection and dispersal of the funds will be facilitated by YouTube’s Giving program. Fans can donate to Trans Lifeline during the premiere and during the seven-day VOD (video on demand) period afterward.

somegirlnamedanna DROPS DEBUT EP twenty one, twenty two

somegirlnamedanna – New EP

Receiving widespread critical acclaim and affirming herself as a rising artist to watch this year, somegirlnamedanna presents her much-buzzed-about debut EP, twenty one, twenty two, today. Listen HERE via LAVA/Republic Records.

Of the EP, she commented, twenty one, twenty two represents the journey that the last year has taken me on: the ups and downs, and the love and the heartbreak. To me, this ep has been about self-discovery and the path to self-acceptance. I think it’s easy to forget that people are not living the perfect lives portrayed on social media, and these songs were inspired by the real challenges and downswings that many of us face behind the screen. I want people to remember they are not alone in these times and I hope we continue to display our vulnerabilities and traits that make us human in popular culture.”

Additionally, she just unveiled the music video for her latest single “seriously just stop. Watch it HERE.

She added about the video, We shot the “seriously just stop” music video during quarantine, making sure to be safe with proper protocol. I wanted this music video to feel empowering and show my personality, to convey how I felt when I wrote the song.  I had a lot of fun channeling that same attitude I wrote this song with during the video shoot too.  I’m pretty sure my cat Bean (furry co-star) did the same.”

Generating over 1 million cumulative streams and views thus far, the EP also boasts her first single “hello i am, “kitchen table, and the recently released “california. As well as three brand new tracks, including the new single “seriously just stop”, “monday”, and the intimate confessional “abandonment.”  Check out the full tracklisting below.

MTV selected her as the first artist to be featured on its MTV Push: FIRST series, which will focus its global spotlight on a curated selection of exceptional new artists just embarking on the start of their careers. The series will also include custom artist-focused short-form content that will feature the artist across all MTV platforms.

Let’s make this clear. somegirlnamedanna is not a brand. It is not an image. It is not an alter ego. Instead, it is the story of Anna, “a girl with a name like all of us are.”  Born and raised in a remote area of Minnesota, her imagination flourished without television or social media. An antique grand piano in the living room called to her as she repeated melodies and jingles from the radio by ear as a young child. While painting in the kitchen, mom played classics by Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, and Tori Amos fueling her daughter’s love for music and the arts, in general. At the same time, she developed a knack for poetry and writing short stories at school, combining the two in songwriting eventually. Balancing college and bartending four nights a week, she spent countless hours in the studio writing and recording demos as well as developing her voice. After one listen to these early demos, LAVA Founder Jason Flom personally signed her in 2019. That brings us to her debut twenty one, twenty two EP out now.
