somegirlnamedanna DROPS DEBUT EP twenty one, twenty two

somegirlnamedanna – New EP

Receiving widespread critical acclaim and affirming herself as a rising artist to watch this year, somegirlnamedanna presents her much-buzzed-about debut EP, twenty one, twenty two, today. Listen HERE via LAVA/Republic Records.

Of the EP, she commented, twenty one, twenty two represents the journey that the last year has taken me on: the ups and downs, and the love and the heartbreak. To me, this ep has been about self-discovery and the path to self-acceptance. I think it’s easy to forget that people are not living the perfect lives portrayed on social media, and these songs were inspired by the real challenges and downswings that many of us face behind the screen. I want people to remember they are not alone in these times and I hope we continue to display our vulnerabilities and traits that make us human in popular culture.”

Additionally, she just unveiled the music video for her latest single “seriously just stop. Watch it HERE.

She added about the video, We shot the “seriously just stop” music video during quarantine, making sure to be safe with proper protocol. I wanted this music video to feel empowering and show my personality, to convey how I felt when I wrote the song.  I had a lot of fun channeling that same attitude I wrote this song with during the video shoot too.  I’m pretty sure my cat Bean (furry co-star) did the same.”

Generating over 1 million cumulative streams and views thus far, the EP also boasts her first single “hello i am, “kitchen table, and the recently released “california. As well as three brand new tracks, including the new single “seriously just stop”, “monday”, and the intimate confessional “abandonment.”  Check out the full tracklisting below.

MTV selected her as the first artist to be featured on its MTV Push: FIRST series, which will focus its global spotlight on a curated selection of exceptional new artists just embarking on the start of their careers. The series will also include custom artist-focused short-form content that will feature the artist across all MTV platforms.

Let’s make this clear. somegirlnamedanna is not a brand. It is not an image. It is not an alter ego. Instead, it is the story of Anna, “a girl with a name like all of us are.”  Born and raised in a remote area of Minnesota, her imagination flourished without television or social media. An antique grand piano in the living room called to her as she repeated melodies and jingles from the radio by ear as a young child. While painting in the kitchen, mom played classics by Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, and Tori Amos fueling her daughter’s love for music and the arts, in general. At the same time, she developed a knack for poetry and writing short stories at school, combining the two in songwriting eventually. Balancing college and bartending four nights a week, she spent countless hours in the studio writing and recording demos as well as developing her voice. After one listen to these early demos, LAVA Founder Jason Flom personally signed her in 2019. That brings us to her debut twenty one, twenty two EP out now.
