RALPH LAUREN PRESENTS THE SEPTEMBER 2017 COLLECTION FASHION SHOW

On the evening of September 12th, guests will be welcomed to Ralph’s Garage in Bedford, New York for the prolific American designer’s September 2017 Collection Fashion Show.

The see-now, buy-now show and formal dinner following will be held against the backdrop of Ralph Lauren’s esteemed collection of rare automobiles. Ralph Lauren will present menswear looks from Ralph Lauren Purple Label directly alongside his women’s collection, complementing the masculine and feminine references inherent in the automotive designs.

For the first time ever, the celebrities, buyers and press attending Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2017 New York Fashion Show will be welcomed into the American designer’s home in Bedford, New York, where a formal dinner event – and a see-now, buy-now catwalk show – will take place within the unique confines of Ralph’s esteemed garage. It is in this garage that Ralph houses his unrivaled collection of classic and rare automobiles.

Combining Ralph Lauren’s passion for cars, luxury and fashion, guests will be in for an ultimately personalised experience in which his top-line Purple Label menswear and womenswear collections will be debuted alongside each other for the first time in history.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of one of the world’s most esteemed automotive collections, the show presented Lauren’s passion for automobiles and classic, enduring style, in front of the likes of Katie Holmes, Dianne Keaton, Jessica Chastain and Nina Dobrev.

Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid walked the runway with race-inspired looks connecting the elements of speed, style and beauty of the designer’s handcrafted vehicles with the very modern, yet timeless spirit of clothes. To heighten the experience, for the first time men wearing looks from Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label collection joined the women on a runway lined with the designer’s cars in the pristine environment of his Garage.

Models and celebrities had exclusive access to the prolific American designer’s vintage cars collection, which included his 1955 Mercedes Gullwing purchased in the 1980s and his award-winning 1938 Bugatti 57CSC Atlantic.

The hand-selected guest lists included Dianne Keaton, Jessica Chastain, Nina Dobrev, Katie Holmes, Kevin Love, Armie Hammer and more esteemed attendees.

Items from the Fall 2017 collection were immediately available on Ralphlauren.com and in global flagship stores, including New York, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai and through top retail partners including Saks Fifth Avenue, Moda Operandi, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

(Night Cloud #21, Joy Moser)

BACKGROUND: Joy Moser, a painter and longtime adjunct professor at Teachers College, started out as an abstract painter, switched for a time to more naturalistic landscapes, and with the “Night Clouds” exhibit at Teachers College in September, returns to abstraction. “Landscapes are tricky,” Moser says. “If you’re not careful, you can end up painting sappy calendar pictures. What I wanted was the mystery – to take you someplace you want to go but can’t quite figure out. So I’m excited to be going back to abstraction.”

Moser’s sky-scapes are anything but sappy. Her clouds are massive, unknown life forms caught in rare close-ups, in motion against often ominous blues. Like an eclipse, you can imagine them causing people across different states and countries to stop on street corners to look up, eyes shaded, with a mixture of awe and dread.

“Painting in general, and landscape in particular, has a kind of universality,” says Moser, who came to TC in 1992 at the request of faculty member Judith Burton to teach for a single semester and never left. “Unlike books or film, they don’t need translation. And with all the terrible stuff going on in the world, that’s a good thing.”

Admission to the exhibition is free of charge

Two Eco Adventures Just for Women Showcase the Galapagos Islands

Two Adventures Just for Women

Showcase Darwin’s Galapagos

Through Eyes of Female Naturalists

A leading travel company that specializes in women-only expeditions has teamed up with female Ecuadorian, naturalist-trained guides for two itineraries that explore on land or from the sea the Galapagos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Wild Women Expeditions offers more active travel departures for women only than any other tour company in the world. Its programs in the Galapagos epitomize for owner Jennifer Haddow the importance of being part of the solutions emerging in places where tourism, among other issues, places fragile infrastructure at risk.

“We run adventure programs with highest standards in ecotourism,” says Haddow. “This includes giving back to communities and investing in conservation. Wild Women Expeditions is an Ambassador of the Galapagos Conservancy, and supports the Charles Darwin Foundation whose research and program implementation affect how people both live and visit here in harmony with this environment.”

The land-based, Galapagos Islands Multisport Adventure uses small water craft to explore the distinguishing features of some of the islands that reveal the pressures of a volcanic history that led to the formation of this archipelago. Guests hike to a volcano rim, kayak to beaches of docile sea lions, snorkel through fantasy worlds of colorful fish swarming a lava cone, and even while stand up paddle boarding bear witness to a bizarre birdlife that remains unafraid of humans, even after being the subjects of attention to throngs of curious passers-by. While hiking to the spot where Darwin’s HMS Beagle landed in 1835, the guide discusses Darwin’s theories and findings from his five-week exploration of the islands. On another day, a six-mile roundtrip hike leads up Sierra Negra, an active volcano with the second largest (6.5 mile span) caldera in the world where birdlife is abundant.

The per person, double rate is from $5,495 for this 10-day Multisport vacation with dates of Nov. 11-20, 2017, and Nov. 10-19, 2018. Included are domestic flights from Quito, Ecuador, to San Cristobal in the Galapagos and Quito return from Baltra, plus related airport transfers; national park and transit control taxes and documentation; three nights camping on Galapagos Islands; six nights double occupancy in hotels; ground transportation and private group transfer by motorized boats between islands; all meals from beginning of program to end including a dinner with a local fishing family; four days of sea kayaking and wildlife viewing; one-day hike of Volcan Sierra; all gear and equipment related to programs including kayak, stand up paddle board and snorkeling excursions; and the expertise of English-speaking naturalist guides; Alejandra Mosquera and Africa Berdonoes.

Born and raised in Quito, Alejandra Mosquera started guiding in 2004 and now divides her time between guiding and parenting. See: Here
Africa Berdonoes grew up in the Galapgos islands, scuba diving since age12 and later becoming a Dive Master and guide. She once crossed the Pacific Ocean in a traditional Polynesian canoe, powered by wind and guided by stars. She holds an advanced degree in Protected Area Management. She believes the Galapagos can one day be an example of humans living in harmony with nature. See: here

The cruise-based Galápagos Islands Eco-Yacht Adventure utilizes the M/V Eric a hybrid solar-powered vessel which incorporates some of the best conservation-focused technology in the world and sets the bar for environmental sensitivity for ships in the Galapagos. In accordance with Galapagos National Park protocol, M/V Eric’s route ventures through the islands on routes proscribed to minimize environmental impact. Twenty privileged guests travel aboard this luxury yacht enroute to bold discovery and quiet revelation while walking stretches of land that serve as nesting sites for clusters of fearless, air-born creatures or snorkeling and swimming alongside a friendly sea lion or following the trail to the dramatic ocean blow hole or watching colorful crabs crawling along the shoreline. A visit to Centro de Crianza Fausto Llerena (formerly the Charles Darwin Research Station) helps connect these experiential dots.

The per person, double rate for this eight-day Nov. 26-Dec. 3, 2017, adventure on this solar-powered yacht is from $5,295. The rate includes roundtrip domestic flights from Quito to San Cristobal and related airport transfers; single, double or triple-berth accommodation for seven nights aboard M/V Eric; national park and transit control taxes and documentation; all meals aboard; complimentary use of wet suits and snorkeling gear and excursion and activities-related equipment such as sea kayaks and stand up paddle boards; guided hiking and Zodiac excursions; and the expertise of English-speaking naturalist guides; Malena Cruz and Gaby Espinoza.

Magdalena “Malena” Cruz enjoys sharing her knowledge of sea currents, geology and the marine reserve. She studied to be a Tourism Professional Guide at the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador. When not guiding, she manages her family’s hotel on San Cristobal. See: here

Maria “Gaby” Espinoza holds degrees in science education from the University Estatal Guayaquil. Fluent in English and German, she became a naturalist guide in 1990. Conservation is her passion. See: here

FAHREN FEINGOLD Solo Exhibit To Open September 26th at The Untitled Space

The Untitled Space gallery is pleased to present a debut solo exhibition of works by artist Fahren Feingold opening September 26 and on view through October 8, 2017. The exhibition, curated by gallery director Indira Cesarine, will feature over fifty watercolors by the artist, who will be presenting a new series of large-scale watercolor paintings along with many of her signature works. Touted as “a trailblazing artist on a meteoric rise” by Vogue, watercolor artist Fahren Feingold brings an ethereal state to her unique paintings depicting the female form. Her watercolors featuring bold feminine nudes reference imagery from early 20 century French erotica, 70s & 80s American vintage magazines, and today’s Internet girls.

The Los Angeles native moved to New York at the age of seventeen to study at the Parsons School of Design. After earning her BFA between Parsons and Glasgow School of Art, she worked as a fashion designer for top brands including Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller, and J.Crew, among others. In 2016, her dreamy watercolors caught the eye of the legendary Nick Knight, who commissioned her to illustrate Paris Fashion Week for SHOWStudio. Between 2016 – 2017, her work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions, including “Moving Kate” curated by Nick Knight at SHOWStudio in London and The Mass in Tokyo, Japan, “The Vulgar” at The Barbican, London curated by Judith Clark and Adam Phillips, “Red Hot Wicked” at Studio C Gallery in Los Angeles, as well as The Untitled Space group shows “UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN” and “SECRET GARDEN” curated by Indira Cesarine and “LIFEFORCE” curated by Kelsey and Remy Bennett.
Over the past few years, her watercolors have steadily gained recognition from collectors and critics alike for their sensitive, dreamlike colors, graceful brush stokes and rendition of the female nude. Vice Creators praised her work stating, “Feingold’s watercolors appear to swim on paper. Her figures bloom and radiate with ethereal energy, and the occasional splash of bright colors imbues them with life.” V Magazine noted her as a “particular standout” while the Huffington Post said, “Fahren Feingold captures the space where the ethereal meets the erotic…Her artwork is an attempt to undo the centuries of censorship, shaming and patriarchal politics that clouds the simple beauty of a naked body.” Through her erotic depictions, Feingold gives new voices to women of the past and present, while exploring larger notions of female constructs in today’s society. With her palette of bright pastels and soft colors blending together, she invites the viewer to step inside her dreamlike erotic world.
“Nude paintings are a beautiful part of our history in art and culturally.  Yet there still remain a lot of people who are frightened by nudity (their own and others). I paint the female figure as others before me, and continue to push boundaries by exploring current political constructs of feminism through erotic imagery.  My brushstrokes are languid as I paint in a ‘wet’ style of watercolors, using many complimentary colors, which wash together in an almost ghostly spirit.  This soothing technique, normally used for flowers and landscapes, I manipulate as a veil to present my direct and often bold messages about female sexuality, empowerment and equality.
When I paint a woman, I imagine giving back her emotional voice, where she may have felt stifled otherwise. I don’t look to paint people as they look, but rather as I feel them, which is why viewers will often not know the natural skin color – since I paint in watery aura like dreamy colors. When someone stands in front of my painting, I hope they really take a moment with it. I want my viewers to see feminine humanity, intimate beauty, and fearless ethos above all else – because that is the core of all women.” – Artist Fahren Feingold

About the Elton John AIDS Foundation

At the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) we believe AIDS can be beaten. We act on that belief by raising funds for evidence-based programs and policies, and also by speaking out with honesty and compassion about the realities of people’s lives. Elton John created EJAF nearly 25 years ago, first in the United States in 1992 and then in the United Kingdom in 1993. Through the generous support of far-sighted individuals, foundations, and corporations, the two foundations together have raised more than $385 million over the past quarter century to challenge discrimination against people affected by the epidemic, prevent infections, provide treatment and services, and motivate governments to end AIDS. The U.S. foundation focuses its efforts on programs in the United States, the Americas, and the Caribbean, while the U.K. foundation funds HIV-related work in EuropeAsia, and Africa. Join us in speaking out, taking action, and contributing to our efforts to achieve a world without AIDS.  For more information, please visit www.ejaf.org.

LAND ROVER REVEALS ALL TERRAIN CHAMPION

NEW DISCOVERY SVX: LAND ROVER REVEALS ALL-TERRAIN CHAMPION AT FRANKFURT IAA

· New Discovery SVX revealed at Frankfurt Motor Show is a production preview of the ultimate all-terrain Land Rover Discovery, with a 525PS 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol powertrain

· Most extreme Land Rover yet, with go-anywhere capability – increased ground clearance, body and suspension lifts, more wheel articulation and large all-terrain tyres

· Specially tuned Terrain Response 2 system and Active Roll Control are firsts for new Discovery

· Discovery SVX will be the first Land Rover assembled by hand at the SVO Technical Centre when production begins in 2018

· Prospective customers and Land Rover enthusiasts are invited to register their interest in new Discovery SVX here.

Land Rover has revealed the Discovery SVX – the ultimate Discovery for off-road enthusiasts seeking epic adventures.

Discovery SVX, launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show, adds extreme all-terrain capability to the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) product triangle. SVX will sit alongside the acclaimed Range Rover Sport SVR and Range Rover SVAutobiography, which are hallmarks for outstanding on-road performance and supreme luxury respectively.

Discovery SVX will be the first Land Rover hand-assembled by expert craftsmen at the SVO Technical Centre in the UK when production begins in 2018.

John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, said:

“SVO designers are embedded within the Land Rover team and have worked with our engineers to unleash their own passion for adventure to create another truly desirable and versatile vehicle in the Land Rover line-up.”

Discovery SVX embodies the design excellence and engineering integrity that are core values of every Land Rover, building on the legendary Land Rover all-terrain capability and adventurous spirit to deliver the ultimate in off-road performance and desirability.

Since its launch in 2016 the fifth-generation Discovery, built on Land Rover’s strong, safe and light aluminium architecture, has won admiration as the world’s best full-size versatile SUV. That makes it the perfect base for SVO’s first SVX vehicle. New Discovery is the first modern Land Rover to wear the SVX badge.

Mark Stanton, SVO Director, said: “The SVX product line gives us a fantastic opportunity to deliver the ultimate Land Rover all-terrain capability in a dynamic and distinctive manner, creating a rugged and versatile SUV that the whole family will love: effortless, unstoppable and connected, whatever the terrain.

“Discovery SVX is designed to reward off-road driving enthusiasts with the next level of all-terrain capability, without compromising comfort and practicality.”

SVX takes Discovery versatility to new levels through further development of its formidable off-road ability. It will be offered exclusively with Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol powertrain, tuned to deliver 525PS peak power and 625Nm torque, along with suspension modifications to enhance driver confidence when tackling the toughest terrain.

Hydraulic Active Roll Control (H-ARC), is new to Discovery on SVX. It gives increased wheel articulation and improved body control, enhancing extreme off-road traction while also reducing body roll for smooth and sure-footed on-road driving.

Discovery SVX has improved approach, departure and breakover angles, achieved by raising both the lightweight aluminium monocoque architecture and the four-corner air suspension system, employing long-travel dampers and revised knuckles, and fitting larger 815mm diameter 275/55 R20 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tyres on forged aluminium alloy wheels.

Tyres with higher side-walls reduce contact pressure and improve performance on soft surfaces. Combined with a more aggressive tread pattern, this improves grip in muddy conditions.

Discovery SVX is also equipped with active centre and electronic rear locking differentials which work with the specially tuned Terrain Response 2 system to optimise traction on all surfaces.

Complementing these hardware upgrades are unique software calibrations for the eight-speed automatic transmission with twin-speed transfer box, and Discovery’s dynamics systems including Hill Descent Control, Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Adaptive Dynamics, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) and variable ratio electric power-assisted steering (EPAS). Discovery SVX also features a model-first Pistol Shifter in place of the Drive select rotary shifter to offer the driver optimum control of gear selection in off-road manoeuvres.

To visually reflect Discovery SVX’s inherent robustness and go-further ability, Land Rover designers have referenced features of iconic Discovery off-road challenge vehicles, such as those used for Camel Trophy and G4 Challenge events, to give SVX a distinctive, aggressive and purposeful appearance inside and out.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, said: “The combination of design excellence and engineering integrity inherent in every Land Rover is the foundation of everything we do. The Discovery SVX reinforces Land Rover’s unrivalled reputation for building vehicles with true all-terrain capability for customers who desire the ultimate in off-road performance.”

The production preview SVX at Frankfurt IAA features unique front and rear bumpers with protective skid plates and exposed Rush Orange-finished metal recovery eyes – each rated to enable recovery of more than six tonnes, an anti-glare bonnet finish and an integrated rear-mounted electric winch system.

Discovery SVX also stands out through its exclusive satin Tectonic Grey paint finish, a unique colour and material combination of Lunar and Light Oyster with Rush Orange accents inside, and ‘X’ logo perforations on the SVX-branded seats. Unique Narvik Black side vents with V8 badging, a Narvik Black Dynamic grille, Black roof rails and a roof-mounted unit with two additional light pods for improved low-light visibility complete the transformation.

The first Land Rover SVX from SVO makes its world debut on the Jaguar Land Rover stand at Frankfurt IAA, 12-24 September, alongside a comprehensive range of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles including SVO stablemates the Range Rover Sport SVR, Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic, Jaguar F-TYPE SVR and Jaguar XE SV Project 8.

Architects for Animals + “Giving Shelter” Event

Architects & Celebrities Including Clint Eastwood, Jay Leno & William Shatner Accept Challenge to Help Homeless Cats

Architects for Animals “Giving Shelter” Event October 19 in Southern California’s Culver City to Benefit Local Non-Profit FixNation

One of this year’s most innovative design events, Architects for Animals® “Giving Shelter” exhibit, returns to the Herman Miller Showroom in Culver City on Thursday, October 19th 2017. The event is expected to be a sold-out fundraiser for LA-based non-profit FixNation, which provides free spay/neuter services for the city’s skyrocketing population of homeless cats.

LA’s top architecture and design firms as well as individual architects and designers have been invited to design, build and donate one-of-a-kind and functional outdoor dwellings for cats. Shelters will be displayed at a cocktail reception attended by the public, VIPs and media representatives. Also on display: cat food bowls decorated by feline-loving celebrities such as Jay Leno, Beau Bridges, Elvira, William Shatner, Clint Eastwood, Eric Dickerson, Tricia Helfer and Morgan Fairchild, which will be available for purchase via an online auction.

“These cat shelters are absolutely remarkable,” says FixNation’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Karn Myers. “They will help raise awareness about homeless cats and provide practical solutions that can be implemented throughout our community.”

This year’s event has added significance as the organization honors Myer’s late husband, Mark Dodge. The couple co-founded FixNation 10 years ago.

Los Angeles is home to one of the nation’s largest populations of homeless felines, an estimated one to three million cats. FixNation is a model for successful Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and humane colony management programs across the country and around the world.

“Many communities use lethal methods in an attempt to control the population of stray, abandoned and feral cats. Such methods are not only horribly cruel, they simply don’t work,” explains Myers. “We founded FixNation because we believe TNR is a much more effective and compassionate alternative.
