Tom Cronin and Superhuman International are pleased to announce the World Premiere of THE PORTAL at the 22ndAnnual Dances With Films in Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 2:45pm at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in the heart of Hollywood. The film was produced by international meditation expert, Tom Cronin and directed by first-time Australian female director, Jacqui Fifer. The film will be followed by a Q&A with cast and crew, and Cronin and Fifer will be participating in various panels throughout the festival.

THE PORTAL ASKS
As the doomsday clock ticks progressively louder: What would happen if 7 billion people meditated? Could it shift the trajectory of our planet?
THE PORTAL is an immersive, cinematic experience that answers the question: How can we really change the world?
Through heart-opening contemplation and shared experiences of transformation on a personal scale, with global implications, six ordinary people (and a robot) show how stillness and mindfulness can unlock personal change and ignite a planetary shift, providing hope to humankind.
“We are thrilled to be screening at Dances With Films and to give audiences around the world a first-look at THE PORTAL, a film that resonates strongly within the global marketplace, the entertainment industry, and our global community as a whole,” said Cronin. “THE PORTAL is a commercially viable film that raises the genre bar while remaining true to its core messageit’s a film for everyone.”
Filmed in the USA, Canada, Australia and a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan, THE PORTAL is richly visual and sonically powerful. Mesmerizing cinematography and the raw intimate stories draw the audience in, while the immersive soundscape breaks ground in film history with its use of binaural beats in an already evocative score.
“The result is like the casting of a gentle spell, an invitation to slip into a meditation and experience your own metamorphosis,” said former Ibiza DJ, Fifer. “We wanted to push the boundaries with this unique and transformational hybrid feature film experience.”
Tom Cronin is founder of The Stillness Project, a global movement to inspire one billion people to sit in stillness, daily. He is passionate about reducing stress and chaos in people’s lives. Tom’s ongoing work in transformational leadership and cultivating inner peace through meditation takes him around the world presenting keynote talks in such countries as Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Mexico and the USA; hosting retreats; mentoring clients across the globe; teaching in schools; writing books; hosting mindfulness courses in the corporate sector; and creating THE PORTAL film-book experience, all as part of his commitment to the current planetary shift.
Jacqui Fifer has had a dynamic career in the film industry line producing such films as Better Watch Out( 2016), The Osiris Child (2016) and Infini (2015) as well as producing the multi-award winning dramatic feature Concealed (2017). She also co-directed the 2012 and 2013 “Dones en Art” (Women and Film) festivals in Spain. An advocate of human capacity development, Jacqui is thrilled to turn her hand towards a subject that is close to her heart. THE PORTAL is her feature directorial debut.

Strick Returns With Whoa Whoa

Young Thug’s right hand man and artist, Strick returns with his latest music video “Whoa Whoa” which premiered via Hypebeast. His EP, See You When I Land is currently available on all streaming platforms with guest appearances from Gunna, Young Thug, and Duke
Strick is a promising new artist from North Carolina, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a professional background both in business and in the U.S. Air Force, The Young Stoner Life signee has set his eyes on the music industry. Building his career behind the scenes, he landed a placement on Kanye Westand Juicy J’s “Ballin‘,” and went on to work with artists such as Travis Scott, Jeremih, and Wiz Khalifa. In 2016, Strick earned his first platinum record “Coordinate” off Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight album. In July 2017, Strick dropped his debut EP, Risk=Reward. In 2018, he released January’s Risk=Reward 2. Most notable was his smooth contributions on Young Thug’s 2018 Slime Languagecompilation, their collaboration “STS” was well-received and continued to build fans interests in the previously reserved musical curator.

Today, nonprofit Women Who Tech, one of the largest organizations that funds and showcases women-led ventures, announced the winner of the 2019 Women Startup Challenge hosted at Google.

Women-led startups from across the US and Canada pitched their ventures before a prestigious panel of tech industry executives and investors on May 29th at Google’s NYC headquarters.

PathSpot cofounder and CEO Christine Schindler was awarded the grand prize of $50,000 for their innovative hand-scanning system that eliminates the threat of foodborne illness by instantly detecting invisible signs of bacteria and viruses that cause foodborne illness including Norovirus, E.coli, Listeria, Hepatitis A, and Salmonella.

The Audience Choice Award went to Stephanie Yim, cofounder of Good Call, who will receive $120,000 in cloud services from Google for establishing a centralized 24/7 arrest support hotline for those detained to provide legal support in under a minute.

The eight other finalists – Basepaws, Ejenta, Elidah, Farm Fare, i-Subz, Metalmark Innovations, Queen of Raw and The Growcer – will each receive $20,000 in cloud services from Google.

“There is a severe disparity when it comes to funding diverse startups – we need to equally back those who are making an audacious impact on a national and global level. Our Women Startup Challenge at Google successfully showcased an array of innovators who need funding to scale,” said Allyson Kapin, founder of Women Who Tech. “We have hard data to show the investor world that placing big bets on women-led startups will generate big returns.”

“Investors need to put their money where their mouths are to support women founders and close the funding gap for good. This will help maximize innovation and create products that are useful to everyone,” said Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist and Craig Newmark Philanthropies, and Advisory Board member for Women Who Tech.

PRIDE MONTH PROMOTIONS: CALIFORNIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY, CONTEMPORARY JEWISH MUSEUM, OAKLAND MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA

Three Bay Area cultural organizations – California Historical Society (CHS), The Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM), and Oakland Museum of California (OMCA)– are joining together to celebrate PRIDE month with a wide range of programs at each institution, including exhibitions, a lecture series, special programming, and events to help tell the unique stories of the LGBTQA community and shine a light on its historical importance to the region, state, and nation.

This is the first time these three organizations have worked together to promote special programming, also complementing two ongoing exhibitions focused on LGBTQA communities: at The CJM, Show Me as I Want to Be Seen, through July 7, and at OMCA, Queer California: Untold Stories, through August 11. Over the weekend of June 22–23, members of each organization will receive reciprocal access to all three institutions. The California Historical Society programming includes a lecture series held every Tuesday evening during PRIDE month beginning at 6 pm at the CHS galleries at 678 Mission Street featuring authors, archivists, photographers, filmmakers, and historians. The lecture topics include a panel discussion (June 7) Understanding LGBTQA Histories Through Collections and Archives; a talk about Transgender History: The Roots of Today’s Revolution (June 11) with award-winning scholar and filmmaker Susan Stryker; a film screening and discussion of Major! The life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy (June 18); and a presentation on California’s “Gay Revolution” in the Stonewall Era (June 25).

The Contemporary Jewish Museum’s current exhibition (on view through July 7), Show Me as I Want to Be Seen, asks how do we depict “the self” if it is unknowable, inherently constructed, and ever-changing? Positioning the work of French Jewish artist and writer Claude Cahun (1894–1954) and her lifelong lover and collaborator Marcel Moore (1892–1972) alongside ten contemporary artists—many of whom identify as LGBTQA and gender non-binary—Show Me as I Want to Be Seen examines the empowered representation of fluid and complex identity. The CJM will also host a one-day-only Zine Fest on June 9, featuring zines and comic art celebrating self-expression in all its forms. On June 20, The CJM will participate in Call and Responses: Curator Swap, a new progressive gallery talk in collaboration with CHS and the Museum of the African Diaspora, which will bring together educators and curators to examine work on view at the three museums in connection with PRIDE.

In addition to its exhibition, Queer California: Untold Stories (on view through August 11), which explores many of the untold narratives of California’s LGBTQA communities through contemporary art and history, the Oakland Museum of California will also host special events and film screenings during PRIDE month. This includes, among another programming, Friday Nights at OMCA on June 7 that features Queer California Drag Family Storytime (6-7 pm) and Queer California Film Series (7:30 pm);  In Conversation: Queer Cinema on June 14, a powerful conversation about the history of queer movie-making and the absence of queer stories from mainstream cinema; and In Conversation: Black Trans Women on Resilience and Strength on June 15, a multigenerational discussion on transgender rights and policies to help us imagine a safe and equitable queer future.

During the San Francisco PRIDE parade on June 30, staff members from each of the three institutions, in partnership with several other Bay Area cultural institutions, will march in the parade together as part of Museums with Pride.

As Airline Satisfaction Climbs to Record Highs, Line Blurs Between Low-Cost and Traditional Carriers, J.D. Power Finds

Alaska Airlines Ranks Highest among Traditional Carriers for 12th Consecutive Year; JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines Tie for Highest Rank among Low-Cost Carriers

Is this the golden age of air travel? According to the J.D. Power 2019 North America Airline Satisfaction Study, SM a combination of newer planes, better ticket value and improved customer touchpoints have driven overall satisfaction with airlines to its highest point in history, up 11 points (on a 1,000-point scale) from last year’s record-setting performance. The surge is driven by significant improvements among traditional carriers, while satisfaction slowed with low-cost carriers.

“Airlines continue to deliver on the operational side of air travel,” said Michael Taylor, Travel Intelligence Lead at J.D. Power. “New technology investments have dramatically improved the reservation and check-in process. Fleets are newer and travelers generally feel that they are getting great value for their money. These improvements have been most profound in the traditional carrier segment, where customer satisfaction has climbed considerably.

“While low-cost carriers have historically had the highest levels of customer satisfaction in our study, due to a strong sense of value for money among customers, that line is starting to blur as traditional carriers improve their services and operations,” Taylor added. “The one area where both traditional and low-cost carriers can still improve, however, is in in-flight services. It continues to be the lowest-ranked factor in the study, as many airlines still struggle with in-flight entertainment, connectivity, in-seat power, and food service.”

Following are some of the key findings of the 2019 study:

  • Record-high customer satisfaction: Overall satisfaction with airlines increases 11 points to 773, continuing an eight-year trend of satisfaction improvement.
  • Improvement is driven by traditional carriers: This year’s significant gains in customer satisfaction are driven by the traditional carriers, whose segment satisfaction score improves 22 points from 2018.   • Tech investments in reservation and check-in systems pay off: The reservation and check-in experiences are the most satisfying portions of the airline experience, driven by investments in digital check-in technologies, self-service kiosks and a concerted effort among airlines to improve the efficiency of the pre-flight process.
  • In-flight service remains a stumbling block: In-flight services, such as seatback entertainment, food service, and Wi-Fi continue to be the lowest-ranked part of the air traveler experience. Specific in-flight amenities that have the greatest positive effect on customer satisfaction are fresh food, seatback games and seatback live television.

Study Rankings

Among traditional carriers, Alaska Airlines ranks highest for the 12th consecutive year, with a score of 801. Delta Air Lines (788) ranks second and American Airlines (764) ranks third.

Among low-cost carriers, JetBlue Airways (817) and Southwest Airlines (817) rank highest in a tie. For Southwest, this is the third consecutive year at the top of the J.D. Power ranking.

Among Canada-based airlines, Air Canada (729) saw its customer satisfaction score declined 5 points from 2018. WestJet (758) saw its score increase 11 points but remains below the low-cost carrier average.

The North America Airline Satisfaction Study, now in its 15th year, measures passenger satisfaction with airline carriers in North America based on performance in seven factors (in order of importance): cost and fees; in-flight services; aircraft; boarding/deplaning/baggage; flight crew; check-in; and reservation. The study measures passenger satisfaction among both business and leisure travelers and is based on responses from 5,966 passengers who flew on a major North American airline between March 2018 and March 2019. The study was fielded from April 2018 through March 2019.
