The Differences between CBD and THC

It is no longer news that cannabis and marijuana are becoming more and more legalized across countries and all over the world. This is especially due to the discovery of their numerous medical uses and health benefits.

Two of the main natural ingredients in marijuana are CBD, cannabidiol, and THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol. The two compounds, although similar, have many differences.

Cannabis Vs. Hemp

Cannabis or Marijuana refers to the dried seeds, flowers, leaves, and stems derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Hemp is technically different from Marijuana, although they are both plants belonging to the same family.

The defining difference between both is the amount of THC present in each one. Marijuana typically contains more THC than Hemp, while Hemp contains more CBD. Usually, any cannabis sativa plant with about >0.3% THC will be referred to as Marijuana, and those with <0.3% THC are considered Hemp.

Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana refers to using the marijuana plant or the chemical substances in it to manage certain illnesses or conditions. Marijuana contains over a hundred different chemicals called cannabinoids. Each one has its own effect on the body.

CBD and THC are the main components of marijuana employed in medicine and are the two most widely studied by researchers. The most prominent difference between them is that THC is the psychoactive substance in marijuana that produces the “high” people feel when they take marijuana recreationally. It generally has more side effects.

On the other hand, CBD is a safer ingredient isolated from cannabis without any of the intoxicating effects of THC and has more tolerable side effects. It is also the dominant substance used in medical marijuana, while THC is only used minimally.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the many compounds isolated from marijuana. It is the major chemical responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana and acts much like other cannabinoids by binding to receptors in the brain. It produces its euphoric effects or what is known as “high” by stimulating the cells of the brain to release dopamine.

Some of the adverse side effects of THC include memory loss, loss of coordination, reddened eyes, and sometimes an increase in heart rate.

Based on chemical structure, THC can also be present in different forms; we have delta 8 THC and delta 9 THC. Delta 8 THC is said to produce milder psychoactive effects, unlike its Delta 9 counterpart.

Delta 8 THC is used to manufacture products that have medicinal use like; relief from pain and insomnia to reduce anxiety, and manage inflammation.

It should be noted that delta 8 THC products have not been approved for safe use, but some of these products, which come in the form of gummies, flowers, tinctures, and vapes, are on the market for their proposed benefits by several companies. These products may be explored by a simple online search like delta 8 gummies near me.

It is advised that to use THC-infused products, you should have a doctor’s prescription. This is especially important if you are already on some other medications, as they can have some counteracting effects.

CBD

Cannabidiol is one of the phytocannabinoids isolated from cannabis sativa plants. Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects like hallucinations or delusions.

It is largely considered safe to use and has been used in the formulation of many beneficial products like oils, pills, or lotions. Also, it has been suggested to have benefits varying from treating anxiety and epilepsy to managing diabetes and some neurological disorders.

CBD has been approved for developing a pharmaceutical product known as Epidolex used in managing seizures.

CBD has some mild side effects, usually due to interaction with other medications the user may be on. Examples of these include dry mouth, reduced appetite, low blood pressure, and drowsiness, but these are rare and usually well tolerated by the body when they occur.

CBD was first isolated from cannabis sativa in 1940 by Roger Adams. Later on, a series of tests were performed by scientists on test animals, and in the 1970s, a cannabis tincture was allowed for medicinal purposes. Since then, more research has been conducted, discovering several uses of CBD and other cannabinoids obtained from cannabis.

Although CBD and THC are different, they largely have the same chemical composition; two oxygen atoms, twenty-one carbon atoms, and thirty hydrogen atoms. However, the main difference in structure lies in each individual atom’s spatial arrangement. CBD is also known to contain trace amounts of THC

CBD also binds to receptors in the endocannabinoid system; these receptors are abundant in the brain and are capable of modulating body activities such as sleep, wakefulness, memory, mood, metabolism, pleasure, perception of time, thinking etc.

As CBD and THC products continue to increase in popularity for their benefits, it is important to learn about these two substances before usage.

Ann Carrington’s artwork via Dreweatts for use by 360 Magazine

DREWEATTS × ANN CARRINGTON

Dreweatts is delighted to announce that it will be holding a charity auction in conjunction with celebrated contemporary artist Ann Carrington, to raise funds for Royal charity ‘The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild’. For the auction, the artist has offered a unique work titled Pearly Queen of St. James’s Palace, a large-scale piece encapsulating the well-recognised image of a first-class postage stamp.  The work is in white and natural acrylic and features pearl buttons hand-sewn by the artist onto a black canvas. It sits in a Perspex box frame and is estimated to fetch £10,000-£25,000 when it goes under the hammer in a public auction at wwww.dreweatts.comfrom November 1st – 22nd, 2022.

Commenting on this unique charity auction, the Guild’s Patron since 2003, HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, said: “I am very proud to be associated with the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild as it celebrates the great achievement of 140 years of helping those in need. The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild is so grateful to artist Ann Carrington for creating and donating this unique piece for auction, the proceeds of which will contribute significantly to the vital work of the Charity to provide more new clothing and bedding to those in need across the UK.”

On donating the work, contemporary artist Ann Carrington said: “I am very proud to have made this special Pearly Queen artwork for the 140th anniversary of the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild. Hand-sewn from thousands of pearl buttons, each button represents the volunteer sewers and knitters whose hand-made contributions since 1882 have enabled the charity to grow and flourish. The iconic Queen image is symbolic of the Royal Patronage received by the Guild”.

Commenting on this unique sale, Will Richards, Deputy Chairman of Dreweatts, said: “Dreweatts are honoured and proud to be supporting the Queen Mothers Clothing Guild, one the UK’s longest established charities. Ann Carrington has created the unique Pearly Queen of St. James’s Palace, to represent the fact that the Guild was founded in 1882 when the Penny Black was in circulation. The auctioning of this generous gift by this internationally renowned artist, will help raise important funds for the Guild whose work, especially now, is critical to so many.”

The artwork is one of only 23 of its’ kind made by the artist, with the first one being snapped up by Jacob Rothschild for the Rothschild collection. One of the works was commissioned by Her Majesty the Queen, with her version being produced in red and gold. It was commissioned to accompany a banner also made by Carrington for Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee.  Other owners of works from this series include Elton John, Lulu Guinness and fashion designer Paul Smith, who all purchased them for their private collections. Carrington is also the only fine artist to hold a license from Royal Mail to produce artworks in the form of the postage stamp!

The sale offers the opportunity to bid for a unique work by the award-winning artist, as each from this series is totally unique. Every head and shoulders image of the Queen is drawn out separately, then sewn with buttons that fit that specific work, which means that all of the buttons are applied in a different way. Colours are also changed depending on the particular piece. The works in this group are all named after different areas of London that Carrington has lived or has special memories of and this particular piece carries the title of the Pearly Queen of St. James’s Palace due to its’ link to the charity.

Ann’s work has become increasingly popular in recent years, with commissions around the globe for private collections, such as; HRH, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Charles, The Duke of Westminster, Gwyneth Paltrow, Issey Miyake and Gordon Ramsay, amongst others. Her work is also held in many public and company collections including: The Victoria and Albert Museum, The United Nations, The Royal College of Art, The Design Museum, London, The Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation and The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, The National Trust, The Commonwealth Institute, Citibank, Waldorf Astoria, W Hotels, DAKS, Dunhill, Agent Provocateur and London’s fashionable Chiltern Firehouse.

The originality of her oeuvre is in the creative use of use of abandoned every-day items which are repurposed, as well as the use of multiples of objects to create pattern and interest, which is central to her function as an artist.  She explains that “all objects are saturated with cultural meaning which, as an artist, I seek to explore, unravel and investigate. Mundane objects such as knives and forks, barbed wire, pins and paintbrushes come with their own ready-made histories and associations, which can be unravelled and analysed if rearranged, distorted or realigned to give them new meaning as sculpture”.

It is being donated by Carrington to raise funds for the Royal charity set up in 1882 by Lady Wolverton, whose friend Princess Mary Adelaide of Teck (mother of the future Queen Mary) became the Guild’s first Royal patron. In 1897 her daughter, the Duchess of York (the future Queen Mary) became the patron, having helped her mother with the charity since childhood. It has remained under Royal patronage to date, having been renamed several times, including in 1910 when Queen Mary (on becoming Queen Consort) renamed the charity ‘Queen Mary’s Needlework Guild’ and in 1914 established St James’s Palace as its’ headquarters.

The charity, which makes, sources and buys new clothing, sleeping bags, bedding and towels to give to British charities (such as babies and children in hospital, the homeless and refugees, the elderly and people in hospices and women and children in refuges), still receives, sorts and distributes the clothing and bedding at St James’s Palace today. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother served as their patron for almost fifty years (from 1953 until 2002). It was renamed again in 2010 as The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild, its’ title today, as a tribute to her.

Speaking from The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild, Hadley Denny explains: “The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild is one of the UK’s oldest charities and from its’ foundation in 1882 its’ purpose has been to support those most in need. We respond to charities across the UK for clothing and bedding items that they have difficulty sourcing or funding themselves. We know that a gift of new clothing or bedding provides warmth and comfort, helping restore dignity and self-respect. Over the year The Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild fundraises in order to source and purchase large amounts of clothing and bedding and our many supporters and volunteers also lovingly hand make thousands of hats, gloves, scarves, clothes and blankets. Every autumn, as we have done for over 100 years, we hold an event at St James’s Palace in London, where we sort, count and pack all of the clothing and bedding, ready for collection by the various charities. Distributing in autumn works well for many charities as their needs are greatest in the winter months. We hope this generous donation of a stunning work by Ann Carrington will help towards our central goal, to help as many people as possible.”

Tobias Dray New Single "Fuk It" Cover Art via Big Hassle Media for use by 360 MAGAZINE

TOBIAS DRAY – FUK IT

TOBIAS DRAY DOCUMENTS HIS DESCENT INTO MADNESS ON NEW SINGLE FUK IT LISTEN

TERRORIZES THE STREETS OF NEW YORK IN ANIME-MEETS-REALITY MUSIC VIDEO  WATCH

Up next in his string of deviant from the mainstream releases, French producer turned rock emblem Tobias Dray today releases FUK IT with an equally as angsty official video. After watching fans voraciously open the pit to this song night after night on his sold-out headline tour of Europe and Canada this summer, Dray was straining at the leash to get this song out into the ether. FUK IT is now available on all DSPs stream the official video HERE.

Today’s single is nothing short of a middle finger to societal constraints. With lyrics like, If I wanna dance, I do it / If I wanna scream, I do it/ If I make a scene, I do listeners are brought into how little Dray cares if anyone has something to say about how he chooses to express himself.

In the official video directed by Martin Klapperbein, we see Dray take on the role of a disgruntled businessman who has been pushed past his brink by his boss. Trashing his office and then evolving into an anime style Joker-esque villain, he takes to the streets of New York for an overly animated, disorienting whirlwind of a breakdown. This descent into madness matches the manic energy of the track. From how the video was publicly filmed, you can tell that Dray truly doesn’t care at all what people think of him.

On the single, Dray said, “I wanted to create myself as a character who goes nuts, and is too tired from overthinking and taking care of stuff that doesn’t matter.”

Earlier this year, Dray released the cinematic Bottle of Bombay and the bass-driven world of Espada Primo. These two releases, along with today’s, are heavily influenced by his affinity for anime. This year’s releases have been met with praise from the likes of Consequence, The FADER and EUPHORIA, and he’s only getting started.

ABOUT TOBIAS DRAY

At only 25 years old, Tobias Dray already has a decade in the music industry under his belt. A well-polished producer turned recording artist, the French musician is an agitator of what the indie-electronic genre typically entails. Having lived in Paris, London, Toronto, and soon heading to New York, Dray’s music has a depth that could only be crafted by someone prone to open-minded experimentation across the globe.

Dray recognizes the role of a musician as a savvy marketer of their own brand and has built an online army of supporters, from millions of followers on TikTok, to his Spotify listenership that is quickly closing in on 1 million people monthly. His music has received early nods from Spotify, winning him coveted positions on the covers of the Lorem and Fresh Finds playlists. His most streamed track to date HMU has garnered over 11 million streams on Spotify alone. Earlier this summer, Dray set out on a sold-out headline tour of Europe and Canada in support of his latest releases. The rest of this year will see an influx of new releases as the artist continues to push the envelope.

DAVID PARKER – NEW BOOK

A San Francisco Conservative Challenges Conventional Political Beliefs

The ancient wisdom of Euclid, Plato and Aristotle still applies today, suggests entrepreneur, investor and lifelong educator David Parker.

“I am a San Francisco conservative — a classical liberal, a classical conservative,” Parker said. “I am Apollo. Reason. All my friends and my family are romantic liberals. Compassion — from the heart. There’s a place for both in the world.”

Parker discusses both ends of the political spectrum and everything in between in his thought-provoking new book, A San Francisco Conservative: David Parker Essays Volume Two.

In it, Parker reminds readers that the timeless principles of economics are essential to the preservation of American democracy.

Parker went back to school at age 50 to gain a deeper understanding of these enduring ideas — and the missteps of nations that deviated from them — to write A San Francisco Conservative. Just as his first book, Income and Wealth, provided readers with a thought-provoking examination of the foundations on which this nation’s freedom rests, his latest book also serves as a message of reassurance and challenge to the conventional political thinking of the day. He calls it “a letter to progressives.”

The issues Parker addresses are those he has focused on for more than half a century, throughout his 40-year career as a teacher in San Francisco public schools. In A San Francisco Conservative, he reminds readers that “crises” have affected the American economy numerous times over the nation’s history — but they pass.

Parker provides well-researched support for his belief that economic opportunities always exist. He cautions that government leaders — especially those who identify themselves as progressives — are jeopardizing the very democracy that has produced prosperity.

Themes covered in A San Francisco Conservative range from education to taxes and the political process itself. Parker challenges the widespread belief that a “conservative” (whether a resident of San Francisco or elsewhere) lacks empathy or a personal commitment to help those who are less fortunate. Government programs supported by many in today’s progressive movement to counter this misunderstanding merely increase the nation’s deficit in dangerous ways, Parker says.

Parker began his career in education at the age of 24 and served students at San Francisco’s inner-city public elementary schools for four decades as a music teacher, followed by 10 years as a volunteer. While pursuing his career in education, Parker became a successful real estate investor. It was success in business that focused his writing, teaching and career as a professional musician. Parker spent 20 years as a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, then 20 years as leader of the Dave Parker Sextet, which twice headlined the San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Festival. His essays have been featured in The Economist, The Financial Times and prestigious law journals.

Scheduled to coincide with the publication of David Parker’s playfully titled newest book, A San Francisco Conservative, a new podcast series sharing that title showcases Parker’s views on the proper role of government and how individuals can arrange for the principles of a free-market economy to work in their favor. As the podcast’s co-host, longtime journalist Tom Martin, has noted, “David Parker’s scholarly approach to the study of political economy provides much-needed historical context to important topics dominating the news, including the progressives’ call for dramatically increased government spending.”

Monster Energy × Dew Tour 2022

The world elite of skateboarding descends on the Midwest! Monster Energy congratulates Brazilian team rider Luiz Francisco on taking second place in the Men’s Skateboard Park final on July 30, 2022. In the night session at Lauridsen Skatepark in Des Moines, Iowa, the 22-year-old from São Paulo rose to the podium with a perfect run in America’s largest outdoor skatepark.

In Friday’s Men’s Skateboard Street final, 29-year-old Kelvin Hoefler from São Paulo, Brazil, secured a podium spot by taking third place against the world elite in a down-to-the-wire contest.

For the second consecutive year, the summer edition of Dew Tour was contested at Lauridsen Skatepark in downtown Des Moines. Built and designed by expert park builders California Skateparks, the competition-grade facility is the largest of its kind in the United States. On two action-packed days, more than 40 male and female professional skateboarders and adaptive athletes from across the globe descended on the Midwestern city to compete in Street and Park disciplines from July 29-30,2022. The skateboard contest and festival were open to the public free of charge and broadcast live via web stream across various platforms. The schedule also included the Battle of the Shops contest, featuring skate teams from regional skate shops in a Street competition.

Here’s how the action unfolded for team Monster Energy in Des Moines this weekend:

Men’s Skateboard Park: Monster Energy‘s Luiz Francisco Takes Second Place

The level of progression was on full display in the Men’s Skateboard Park final on Saturday night. The California Skateparks-designed bowl course featured an array of pools, vertical extensions, wallrides, banks, and a centerpiece volcano for creative lines.

The roster of twelve finalists, including several X Games gold medalists and World Cup winners, hailed from three countries: Australia, Brazil, and the United States. Monster Energy‘s Luiz Francisco came to Dew Tour 2022 fresh off claiming the bronze medal at X Games 2022 in Vista the previous weekend.

On Run 1 of the final, the 22-year-old from São Paulo, Brazilian, put down a perfect routine stacked with his signature selection of technical tricks: frontside lipslide the deep end, huge frontside boneless off the flat bank, varial kickflip Indy, hardflip body varial Indy over the hip, frontside feeble grind the extension, kickflip melon over the corner, Indy nosebone, kickflip backside 50-50 pull-in over the center ledge, and frontside blunt earned Francisco 86.33 points and second place.

Also putting on a strong performance in the final, Monster Energy’s Kieran Woolley looked like a lock-in for a podium spot. On the strength of a perfect first run, the 18-year-old from Minnamurra, Australia, held down third place for the majority of the final session.

A perfect routine including backside boneless off the extension box above the bank, frontside nosegrind the vert extension, frontside Smith grind the deep end, frontside boneless the bank, giant backside 540 nosegrab, kickflip Indy over the hip, backside Smith grind the bowl corner, alley-oop frontside 50-50, backside air to disaster, backside wall bash the centerpiece, and Miller flip earned Woolley a strong 84.00-points score. But when the action moved to final attempts of the night, Woolley found himself leapfrogged by Keegan Palmer sliding into third place on Run 3.

Nevertheless, Woolley is currently emerging as an unstoppable force in park skating after claiming the gold medal in Skatepark Park at X Games 2022 the previous weekend and winning the bowl contest at the Copenhagen Open this summer. Keep an eye on this kid!

Sea Turtle Mosaic Project made by Custom Mosaics via Connie Williams for use by 360 Magazine

CUSTOM MOSAICS BY CONNIE

Custom Mosaics, which Connie Williams founded in 2012, focuses on customizing mosaics to each customer’s specifications. Each mosaic made from Custom Mosaic is unique and “One of a kind,” perfectly matching every client’s personality.

After moving to the coast (Near Gulf Shores, AL), Connie and her husband were not able to find the perfect sea turtle for the kitchen and bath of their new house. Therefore, under the influence of her mom who was a Ceramic teacher for most of Connie’s life, she decided to use some of her basic ceramic skills to make and install the “Sea Turtles” by herself which surprisingly played a huge part in the selling of the home. In the end, Connie decided to go into the “Sea Turtle” business, turning the marine organisms into mosaics to bring the “AT THE BEACH” feel.

Although Connie has made many mosaics close to the “Sea Turtle” one, the “Sea Turtle” shower project has been the most popular mosaic so far with the overall goal of making people feel like they are actually among sea life. The shower that the “Sea Turtle” is in started as a 5-foot garden tub and was replaced with a 5-foot shower. The mosaic is the focal piece of the shower and is 20” tall by 32” wide. Every mosaic piece was hand cut from ceramic clay by Connie, starting with a 25-pound block of clay.

For a complete project, Connie would always make many “filler” tiles at a time and try to keep all different colors in stock. As for the focal pieces, such as sea turtles, tropical fish, etc, she tries to keep most of those made and in stock as well so shecan directly pull the focal piece the client wants and start their one-of-a-kind mosaic. Customers would always be involved as much as possible during the whole project to ensure they could get the most satisfactory design. Meanwhile, The installation process is also accessible by simply adding mortar to the wall, pressing mosaic on and letting them dry and grout.

Besides the regular business running, Connie makes several pieces every year and donates for auctions with organizations such as Cancer Research, Autism and several different Dog Rescue groups. She always feels wonderful and proud after seeing the pieces raise money for these groups. Last year, the piece of a surfboard-shaped mosaic with a sea turtle raised over 2,000.00 for one of the groups alone.
