Selfridges Plastic Designs
The future of retail is being highlighted by an exciting 3D printing demonstration featuring an ABB robot in Selfridges, one of London’s premier department stores on Oxford Street. Throughout April, the demonstration will feature in a window display, with shoppers able to see an ABB robot 3D printing a variety of personalized designer objects made from Parley Ocean Plastic®—intercepted marine plastic debris collected from Parley’s Global Cleanup network.
The 3D printing demonstration is part of Selfridges’ SUPERMARKET concept, which challenges consumers to think about how the goods they purchase are produced and the impact of this production on the environment.
Marc Segura, ABB’s Robotics Division President, said, “While expanded choice is great for consumers, it also comes at a cost to the environment, with products and packaging often being discarded with little thought about where they end up or whether they get recycled.” He continued: “By re-using plastic from the world’s oceans to print designer objects, we help to highlight the important contribution of robots in creating the sustainable manufacturing processes central to a circular economy.”
Developed in partnership with environmental organization and global network Parley for the Oceans, and innovative design brand Nagami, the demonstration will use ABB’s simulation software, RobotStudio® and an IRB 6700 robot to create a variety of printed furniture, homeware and other objects made from Parley Ocean Plastic®. The robot will work with Nagami’s unique plastic extruder to print the objects which can be selected by customers on a screen and made to order on the premises.
Parley founder and CEO Cyrill Gutsch commented, “Parley Ocean Plastic® was invented to catalyze change in response to marine plastic pollution and the destruction of our oceans. Working with two industry leaders, ABB and Nagami, we can now print on demand anywhere in the world to turn a problem into a solution. Beyond the huge potential for reducing waste by printing directly inside retail locations like Selfridges, we want to use this technology to empower local communities across the globe—giving them the tools to turn local plastic pollution into business opportunities and useful objects. For the oceans, climate and life.”
As well as underlining the importance of eco-innovation, the demonstration will also help to highlight the wider potential of robotic automation in helping retailers attract customers into their stores. Robots are already being used in increasing numbers in inventory and delivery management and in-store services, with research organization Coherent Market Insights estimating a 30% growth in the uptake of robots in retail by 2028.
Marc Segura said, “The ability to introduce robots into their stores both behind and in front of the counter offers exciting opportunities for retailers. By using robots to handle in-store micro-fulfilment operations, staff can be released to people-facing roles, allowing them to focus more on providing customers with a better all-around experience. As demonstrated by the installation at Selfridges, robots can also be used on the shop floor to enable personalized production of goods at the point of consumption, adding a whole new dimension to the retail experience.”
This new customer segment broadens ABB’s portfolio as part of a wider strategy to accelerate expansion into new and high-growth segments including logistics, healthcare, and construction.

DYU RELEASES NEWEST EBIKE
The new DYU R1 20 Inch eBike is the perfect companion for a quick trip to the bodega or a ride around the neighborhood. Sporting an aluminum body and 20-inch tires, DYU’s newest eBike is super lightweight and easy to store. DYU’s new torque sensor is the main feature of this bike, which boosts your pedal strength while riding, facilitating your riding experience: the harder you pedal, the faster it goes. The R1 eBike is perfect for anyone looking for a highly comfortable and effortless ride, as well as anyone just starting to break into the world of electric bikes.
The R1 design is all about flexibility. DYU’s new advanced Lithium-Ion battery sits silently within an adjustable seat, successfully veiling the bike to the external eye. The R1 also features a foldable handle head, making it painless to store in your car, building, or on the subway. The R1 head has two brakes and an LED screen, for which all the wires are neatly fastened together by a sleek black tube, ridding you of messy, unappealing wires in the front of your bike. The back of the bike has a designated space for any bags, groceries, and more commonly, a nice speaker for you to ride in sound and in style. All charging ports and wires are not only very manageable to use and easy to remove, but they are also elegantly placed, making the R1’s curb appeal sleek and simple. The R1 comes in 3 different streamline colors: Black, Green, and Blue. Affiliates of 360 Magazine had the opportunity to test the R1 Black, which was a silky matte, but our team imagines the green and blue colors are just as sleek. The R1 design is all about simplicity and ease.
The technology in the DYU R1 20 Inch eBike is evolved from previous models. Instead of a throttle, the R1 is solely based on a cutting-edge torque sensor to control your power while pedaling. With a maximum speed of 25 mph, the interior of the bike is a 250W Geared Hub Motor, from which there are 3 different gear speeds. The battery inside the seat is a 36V, 5Ah Lithium-Ion battery which takes about 3-4 hours to charge and has a maximum distance of 25+ miles every charge, making it simple to charge overnight or during the workday. The front and rear wheels also have dual disc brakes that add additional safety when braking. For an even more enjoyable drive, the front wheel has double-spring shock absorbers to allow you to go over bumpy roads without hesitation. The left handlebar is fitted with an LCD Display that shows you your battery usage, speed, and gear mode. The power button is placed on top of the LCD Display. For your midnight snack run, the R1 additionally has a light on the front for visibility. The tech in the R1 makes it useful for both leisure rides as well as those under a time constraint.
For a full-fledged performance test on the capabilities of the newest DYU R1 20 Inch model, affiliates of 360 Magazine took the R1 out in Little Italy in the Bronx. Dating back to the 1850s, Italian immigrants began to move towards Belmont as the Bronx Zoo and the Jerome Park Reservoir were constructed. What resulted was an authentic hub of Italian cuisine and community, a cultural cornerstone of New York City to this day. The terrain around Arthur Avenue has both smooth flat grounds, as well as hills and bumpy roads. 360 Magazine took the R1 on an outing, passed by Full Moon Pizza, enjoyed lunch at Avenue Gyro, during which the R1 remained dependable. Although this eBike could be considered a subtle eBike, we made sharp turns, dodged double parked cars, and went over all the terrain in the area to test out the R1 features and aptness for all scenarios. This eBike is great for brief rides. Riding the R1, there is no problem in controlling the frame and the brakes were extremely receptive, so riding in the street with cars is no problem. However, it became clear to 360 Magazine that this bike is for leisure rides only, or maybe for your Abuela to go to the store and back. At first gear, if pedaling at a casual pace on flat ground, the R1 goes about 11 mph. At second gear, 14 mph. Finally, at third gear (considered to be the fastest) it only reaches about 16-17 mph. If you’d like to go faster and break the 20mph mark, consider going downhill or pedaling extra hard. Moreover, attempting to go faster by pedaling standing up feels like you will fall forward due to the size of the tires and the height of the handlebars. Yet, the DYU R1 20 Inch model is the perfect neighborhood-friendly eBike. DYU checked off every box for the comfortability of the R1. Enjoy a super straightforward to handle and lightweight eBike that does not go too fast but beats walking in both style and convenience.
ERGONOMICS X ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The R1 is a part of a bigger movement, along with all DYUs electric bikes. The DYU company is made up of staff from former high-tech enterprises like Huawei, Baidu, Mindray and more, so it is expected that their electric bikes will both be high quality and great for the environment! The eBikes have a high efficiency, featuring zero-emissions. By lowering their owner’s carbon footprint, having long-lasting batteries, and featuring fast charging times, their eBikes make a positive impact to our roadways and feature a green way to have fun!
In New York City, the other most common electric bike that is purely pedal assist are the electric Citi Bikes that have stations all over the city. Being a much bigger bike with big wheels and only one gear speed, those bikes are more suited for long distance and speedy travel. The R1 is perfect to take on the subway downtown for a ride through the West Village or a stroll in Washington Square Park; a mode of short-distance transport.
While riding the R1, it is certain you will get some swiveling heads in the neighborhood as you cruise through to your deli, but don’t be blinded by admirers. Priced at $999 and currently on sale for $849, you will want to make sure that your eBike is safe from theft. Although it does not come with any Smart App features, nor an anti-theft system, it does include a lock for the back wheel and the seat (which is important because the battery is within the seat) as prevention features. Therefore, without additional safety features, as an owner you want to make sure that you are consciously keeping the bike out of sketchy areas and out of clear sight. Don’t always leave your bike in the same place, use a good lock like a Kryptonite Folding Lock, and even use multiple locks on different parts of the bike. Anchor your bike down to objects that are more durable than the bike frame itself. Your first choice, however, should always try to bring the R1 inside.
Overall, the DYU R1 20 Inch Electric Bike is most suited for those looking for a very casual bike; not anything to go long distance and back quickly, but something for a brisk excursion through your neighborhood – perhaps a means of getting groceries and coming back home. This eBike is also appropriate for anyone of an older age wanting something that helps them move around with ease but is not too powerful that they lose control and injure themselves. GoTrax Emerge Electric Bike
GoTrax has recently unveiled its 2021 electric bike series. With enhanced durability and power—and the same affordability customers love and expect—GoTrax provides an even more incredible e-bike selection than ever. 360 Magazine had the opportunity to test ride GoTrax’s newest model, the GoTrax Emerge Electric Bike 26”, on the reopened, bustling streets of New York.
360 Magazine took the Emerge for an exhilarating evening cruise through the Bronx and by the Lincoln Center, during which we clawed around sharp turns in Central Park with dexterous stability. If you’re in New York City, consider taking advantage of the public bike paths on summer nights.
The Emerge electric bike is a batmobile for commuters in a concrete jungle. With shock-absorbent, wear-resistant tires, this model is perfect for smooth city cruising. With the powerful 350w read-drive motor, this e-bike packs robust torque for unimpeded riding. As such, the Emerge can also handle rugged, uneven mountain terrain.
GoTrax offers electric transportation solutions that are becoming increasingly popular in today’s personal transportation-dependent society. Especially in the time of many being wary of public transportation, e-bikes provide a practical solution and sustainable alternative to traditional travel. Environmentally friendly and efficient, this bike is essential for active, ecologically conscious cyclists. With an auto hibernation function that goes into effect after 10 minutes of standby, the Emerge helps cyclists conserve energy.
All of GoTrax’s products are certified to UL safety standards, and the company understands the importance of ensured safety, ferocious performance, and high-quality design.
Available in a sleek black or vibrant teal color, the streamlined design of this e-bike has major curb appeal and competitive performance ability. The fatigue and fracture-resistant 6061 aluminum alloy frame makes for an ultra-durable bike body.
Weighing in at 53.9lbs, this vehicle is sturdy, but also easily lightweight and transportable. The vehicle’s product dimensions are 68.5” x 25.6” x 42.9”. Further, this e-bike has an IPX4 waterproof rating, so riders can travel in any weather condition.
The Emerge has a maximum payload of up to 265lbs. However, the bike’s smaller frame was designed for optimal use with smaller, shorter riders. The compact design of this e-bike makes for effortless maneuvering and cornering.
Access all your digital needs in fingertips’ reach during your ride with the e-bike’s digital LED display. With an integrated power switch, battery indicator, front headlight, and gear switch, riders have complete control behind the wheel.
GoTrax knows that customers crave convenience, so the company made sure to prioritize such on their newest commuter bike model. On the handlebars, next to the digital display, riders can also access the bell, hand brakes, throttle, and three-speed level settings effortlessly.
The Emerge bike is equipped with mighty, sturdy 26” tires. These pneumonic rubber tires have tenacious grip, which is helpful when riding on rugged or slippery surfaces. They can even endure light potholes.
Further, these heavy-duty tires are shock absorbent and wear-resistant. Compared to regular tires, they provide a faster ride with less drag.
Cruise all day in your new favorite e-bike, thanks to its 36V, 7.5aH battery capacity. Once fully charged, the Emerge can transport riders up to 26 miles using pedal assist, and 16.7 miles on pure electric mode. Riders need not wait long after their cruise to keep going, as the high-capacity battery recharges in just 4-6 hours. This quick charge provides a long-life cycle for extended bike trips or unpredictable travel situations. Conveniently, the battery is removable and comes with a built-in lock, so riders need not worry about it becoming lost or stolen. Simply use the enclosed key and lift the battery for removal.
If you’re looking for even more power, look no further than the Emerge’s 250w brushless gear motor. This powerful motor can provide speeds of up to 20mph, delivering riders to their destinations in a breeze.
Ramp up your ride with the e-bike’s convenient hand throttle brake. The Emerge packs in major brawn and power, allowing riders to effortlessly climb hills with up to 14-degree inclines.
When it’s time to take a pause, the Emerge comes with a dual disc brake and an electric, anti-lock braking system. The Shimano professional 7-speed transmission system guarantees user control while on the go. This top-of-the-line transmission system ensures a comfortable and controlled cruise. Once stopped, the e-bike’s installed kickstand ensures proper, upright storage.
With its horn and illuminating LED headlamp, the Emerge e-bike is a safe option for nighttime rides. Extra LED lights can be attached to the bike’s front and back for increased nighttime visibility.
For users looking for aid while cruising, the Emerge has an assisted bicycle mode for long travels. Assist mode allows riders to avoid zero starting, frequent braking, and aids in driving against the wind.
Other modes include pure electric mode and normal bike. Riders can adjust the vehicle to their exact specification with the three gear speeds: 1 gear (8.7mph), 2 gear (14.3mph), and 3 gear (19.8mph.)
360 Magazine recommends checking that the brake system is properly functioning before use. Be sure to review the e-bike’s safety warnings.
Ergonomics × Additional Features
Compared to other bikes in its category, such as the Swagtron EB7 commuter e-bike, the Emerge has a larger battery capacity, faster speed capability, and larger tires. Further, the Emerge is trendier than other e-bikes, with its Samsung battery sleekly camouflaged inside the bike’s body. As such, GoTrax’s newest Emerge model leaves other electric bikes in the dust. While the Emerge is similar to GoTrax’s earlier Alpha XL model, the Emerge stands out as the clear choice for smaller and shorter riders.
The Emerge Electric Bike comes modestly priced, at the cost of $699.99. Upon purchase, orders are generally processed in 24 hours and shipped out in 3-5 business days,
We’re sure you’ll love the Emerge e-bike as much as us, but if you’re not satisfied, GoTrax offers a 30-day return and 90-day warranty. Furthermore, for additional purchases, customers can add on a 2-year or 3-year warranty plan. Consider giving your new, shiny e-bike a name upon purchase.
Agile × Easy to Assemble
Note that while the bike arrives 95% assembled, customers still have to finish assembly manually or should seek assembly service. Cyclists looking for aid in constructing their e-bike should call Velofix– a mobile bike shop with many locations across the United States. For those on the East Coast, Cycle Haus is another trustworthy option for mobile e-bike repair. On the West Coast, Hoopty Bikes Mobile Bike Repair offers 24/7, mobile bike services. Once their e-bike is put together, riders are to be cruising in style wherever they journey on the GoTrax Emerge Electric Bike.
