Polo and Pan – “Feel Good”

Parisian electro duo Polo & Pan today released their first single since last summer, a timeless and joyful record to lift spirits. “Feel Good,” is the lead track off their forthcoming EP of the same name, a bite-sized look into their second full-length album currently in the works. Much like their previous releases, “Feel Good,” is a menagerie of kaleidoscopic sounds that underscore their pop sensibilities and legacy as French Touch innovators.

Listen to “Feel Good” here.

Last month the French visionaries crafted a grandiose mixtape of rare edits and globally-sourced records – a hallmark of their eclectic palette. “Home Sweet Home” served as a primer for their new music on the way as well as a groovy sonic voyage that provided an escape for listeners in isolation. To date, the duo have earned over 280 million streams worldwide, continuing to build on success from their only album released thus far, the critically-acclaimed Gold and Platinum work, Caravelle.

Polo & Pan have spent the better part of the last two years traveling their live show around the world, performing to sold-out crowds in notable venues like LA’s Novo, London’s Printworks, NY’s Terminal 5, and Montreal’s MTELUS. The run saw them play to 30,000 fans in North America alone, with rave performances across leading festival stages including Coachella, CRSSD, Corona Capital, and more. With the postponement of their marquee headline at The Hollywood Bowl this summer, Polo & Pan are back in the studio perfecting their next transportive body of work, sure to push the boundaries of their culturally rich soundscapes once again.

MUSTARD × YG × POSTMATES

Grammy-award-winning music producer and artist, Mustard, continues to expand his entrepreneurial portfolio with Fishbone Seafood, a Southern-style seafood eatery co-owned with longtime friend and collaborator, YG. The native Angelenos become co-owners in the existing seven locations across LA and this week, they are partnering with Postmates to give back to their community by delivering $100,000 worth of food to LA residents and community organizations.

“I met one of the owners at a gas station, and he told me we should do business,” says 4Hunnid artist YG. “I called Mustard and told him about the opportunity, and he was ready to go.” Mustard, who was born and raised in Baldwin Village, explains why it was so vital for him and YG to give back to South LA right from the start.  “COVID-19 has hit Black and Brown communities the hardest,” stated the 10 Summers CEO. “YG and I have not forgotten where we come from and feel a duty to support those who are less fortunate and have been our biggest supporters from the beginning.”

To celebrate the second annual “Mustard Day” and honor Juneteenth, Mustard and YG have partnered with Postmates to give back to their community by delivering $100,000 of meals. Only on June 19, $50,000 worth of free meals will be delivered to residents around the city within the delivery radius. Participating Fishbone locations will offer two free and healthy options to select from: The Mustard Plate (Grilled Shrimp and Filet Sole with Sautéed Veggies) and the YG Plate (Grilled Filet Sole with Sautéed Veggies.) To order, visit Postmates.com or download Postmates on iOS or Android. Only on June 19, the selected free meal discount will automatically be applied to the Postmates order. The free meal offer is valid for one meal per order while supplies last.

Additionally, $50,000 in meals will be delivered to several community organizations around Los Angeles through the next week, including A New Way of Life, Hollywood Food Coalition, Midnight Mission, Watts Empowerment Center, Upward Bound House and five St. John’s Well Child and Family clinics.

In 2019, Los Angeles honored Mustard by declaring June 19 “Mustard Day” to recognize the significant commitment and support he has provided to his South LA hometown. Naitonally, June 19 is known as Juneteenth and commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States and is an important day to highlight Black voices and Black-owned businesses.

ASCAP Announces HBCU Internship Program

ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, announced the launch of a new paid internship program for students enrolled in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. This summer, the PRO will offer five HBCU students the opportunity to join ASCAP’s team to gain real-world experience in the music industry.

Howard University (Washington, DC), Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA), Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA), and Bennett College (Greensboro, NC) will be initial partners in the program, which will run through July and August. Interns will work remotely, alongside ASCAP professionals in their field of interest.

ASCAP plans to continue and expand the initiative moving forward, offering paid internships to HBCU students each summer.

“We have a responsibility to seek to nurture talent and empower the next generation of Black leaders in the music business, just as we do on the creative side,” said ASCAP Senior Vice President, Rhythm & Soul Nicole George-Middleton. “Our goal is to provide experience within ASCAP and to help our interns connect with the larger industry as they pursue their careers.”

ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews added, “This program is a natural extension of ASCAP’s ongoing work to create and evolve a culture of inclusion and belonging that reflects and serves the incredible diversity of our ASCAP membership. By creating a new pipeline for college students to gain music industry work experience, we hope to provide meaningful mentorships and opportunities to new generations of Black leaders who will influence the future of the music business.”

“Bennett College is thrilled to be a part of the inaugural class of ASCAP’s HBCU internship program. ASCAP will provide our students with invaluable, real-world experience and expand their understanding of the music business. We are looking forward to this partnership and what the future holds for our talented students,” said Yolande Johnson, Bennett College Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship / Interim Coordinator for Career Services.

“Some of the most meaningful education takes place outside of a traditional classroom, and we are excited to have our students learn from top executives in the music industry. ASCAP is a global leader in entertainment and this internship opportunity is priceless,” added Cafabian Heard, Creative & Marketing Services Specialist University Relations, External & Community Affairs, Clark Atlanta University.

Students selected for the ASCAP HBCU internship program will have the opportunity to work within the following departments: Marketing & Communications/Events; Membership (Film & TV, R&S/Urban, Country, Pop/Rock, Symphonic/Concert and Latin); Data Strategy; International Affairs; Finance; Licensing; and Global Technology Solutions. In addition, interns will have access to ASCAP employee perks, such as Wellness Events, Employee Jam Sessions, and Online Learning tools.

WQXR Music For Juneteenth

In honor of Juneteenth, WQXR is devoting the entire day to spotlighting the work of Black composers and performers from around the globe with an all-day tribute “Music for Juneteenth: A Celebration of Black Classical Artistry.

Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 and commemorates the date in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was finally enforced by Union officials in the state of Texas, over two years after the Proclamation was issued. Also known as Freedom Day, it is now widely celebrated as the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the United States.

Over the course of 24 hours — from midnight to midnight — WQXR will showcase the talent, work, and voices of Black musicians. The day’s playlist includes over 150 pieces of music, featuring more than 40 Black composers and over 60 Black soloists and conductors.

Highlights include powerful symphonies by Florence Price, William Grant Still, and William Dawson; the Violin Concerto in F-Sharp Minor by Jose White, a virtuoso who performed with the New York Philharmonic in the 1870s; uplifting choral music by Margaret Bonds and Robert Nathaniel Dett; ragtime favorites by Scott Joplin; living composers like Adolphus Hailstork, Jessie Montgomery, Valerie Coleman, Daniel Kidane, and Nkeiru Okoye; performances by legendary singers such as Marian Anderson, Paul Robeson, Jessye Norman, and Leontyne Price; as well as great artists on the concert scene today including Wynton Marsalis, Lara Downes, Anthony McGill, and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, plus emerging stars.

At 7pm, WQXR will break its music-only format to present a special conversation about race and diversity in classical music. WQXR’s Terrance McKnight will host “The Black Experience in the Concert Hall,” a live two-hour program and discussion with listener call-ins and guests including:

  • Martina Arroyo, legendary soprano and founder of the Martina Arroyo Foundation
  • Wynton Marsalis, virtuoso trumpeter and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center
  • Khalil Gibran Muhammad, professor of History, Race, and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and author of The Condemnation of Blackness
  • Jesse Rosen, President and CEO of the League of American Orchestras
  • Alvin Singleton, composer
  • Chelsea Daniel, pianist
  • Greg Sandow, music critic and composer

“Classical musicians of African descent have existed on the margins of obscurity for centuries — in the classroom, the concert hall, the record industry, and on the radio,” said Terrance McKnight, WQXR’s Evening Host. “This underrepresentation is what brought me to work in public radio, and this 24-hour Juneteenth marathon is something I’ve looked forward to my entire radio career. I’m excited to share the work of these artists in a concentrated way, on Juneteenth and beyond.”

“We are honored to mark Juneteenth with a showcase of the work of Black performers and composers, many of whom have long been excluded from the canon,” said Matt Abramovitz, Vice President, WQXR. “And while a call-in show is an unprecedented break with our usual all-music format, a discussion of race and classical music is the conversation we need to have right now, and WQXR has the platform and mandate to host it. We hope listeners will join us for this day of celebration and reflection.”

“Music for Juneteenth: A Celebration of Black Classical Artistry” airs all day beginning at 12:01am June 19 on WQXR 105.9 FM and will stream online at WQXR.org.

ABOUT WQXR

WQXR is New York City’s only all-classical music station, immersing listeners in the city’s rich musical life on-air at 105.9FM, online at WQXR.org and in the real world via live events and broadcasts. POORSTACY × Travis Barker

South Florida-bred POORSTACY has released his latest single and music video “Choose Life,” a collaboration with Blink 182’s Travis Barker, via 10K Projects. The prolific artist’s newest single “Choose Life” follows up his debut album, The Breakfast Club, less than four months after its release. Inspired by the famous monologue from the UK film Trainspotting, POORSTACY’s “Choose Life” takes “the monologue and puts it in [his] own voice and [his] own words as a way to tell people to not give up and to choose life instead.”

Growing up on a diet of punk, metal, and hip hop, rising artist POORSTACY is a sum of disparate influences. The 21-year-old singer, rapper and guitarist spent his formative years performing shows in small venues around his hometown of Palm Beach, Florida: “There’s a real metal scene out here. Lots of punk rock, gothic stuff. I’ve chosen to actually make music based on what I grew up around.” Combining the power chords and angst of punk with the 808s and half-sung melodies of modern hip hop, POORSTACY quickly gained the attention of record label 10K Projects, who signed the young artist in early 2019. With lyrics often focused on themes of isolation and anxiety, POORSTACY’s work feels both intimate and universal, and has led to collaborations with multi-Platinum selling producer Nick Mira (Juice WRLD, Post Malone) and, most recently, Blink-182’s Travis Barker.

Kierra Luv – Take It or Leave It

18-year-old artist Kierra Luv returns with her debut mixtape Take It or Leave It. Featuring a wide range of rap offerings, including the previously-released hit “Can’t Stand It” (feat. Tory Lanez), Kierra shows off her versatility and her powerful voice as an artist. A 2020 high school graduate, Kierra Luv celebrates her independence on Take It or Leave It and proves that she is a force to be reckoned with.

Often spitting so hard that tears stream down her face, Harrisburg, PA artist Kierra Luv raps with the surefire spirit, undeniable intensity, and street wisdom of a hard-lived life. Last week Kierra uploaded an emotionally charged freestyle speaking out on the police brutality faced by Black people in America.

Kierra’s music has always provided an outlet from a rough home life. Of Puerto Rican and African American descent, she grew up in her grandparents’ small house where she was witness to domestic violence against her mother, and her grandfather’s alcohol addiction. At school Kierra began writing poetry as a method for trying to heal from her breakups and unsettling home life. These rhymes set the stage for her to eventually pick up a mic. Inspired by Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, she auditioned for The Rap Game. Despite not making it onto the show, Kierra began to grow an online following as she consistently uploaded freestyles and her first single, “You Lied To Me.”

In 2018, Kierra uploaded her take on Cardi B’s “Money”, which quickly exploded on the internet; it went from a plug on Say Cheese to WorldStarHipHop in a matter of days. The remix eventually made its way to Cardi B who shared it on Instagram and opened up the floodgates for Kierra. The video was viewed over 14 million times in under six months, and had major labels clamoring to sign the young Philly artist.

Finding a home with 10K Projects/Electric Feel Entertainment, Kierra dove into crafting her debut project. Her 2019 single “Put You On” showcases her deft rhymes, hard-hitting hooks, and bulletproof bars, culminating on lines like “I’m a little girl, but look, I’m moving like a don.”

“Put You On is basically me telling myself that I can put you on, show you how to make some money, and everything is going to be okay,” explains Kierra. “Everything was reckless before now, including my home life. So this is a motivational track to show you what can happen in the future if you don’t give up.”

“When you listen to me, I want you to know you’re not alone,” she leaves off. “It’s all about having a winners’ mindset. I hope to give that to everyone so they know tomorrow will always get better.”

Planning a US Trip After the Quarantine? Here’s What You Need to Prepare

Traveling is good for people’s souls as it reduces stress to most of us. But with this current pandemic happening around the world, people can’t even go back to their normal life and it really affects everything. It is like a nightmare that everyone’s wishing to end. Many flights these days are postponed and canceled and traveling is very limited for essential goods only. Quarantine and lockdown are implemented globally and it requires social distancing.

We all know that most people dream to travel across the US. It is the most popular travel destination throughout the world. You can still pursue your American dream when the virus is not present anymore. Planning a US trip for a vacation after this pandemic can be very exciting after a long period of staying at home, but we have to be more careful than usual and prepare everything needed to travel safely because as they say this is the new normal.
Here are the things you need to prepare for your future US Trip.

Passport and Visa

When traveling to other countries, it is important that you have a valid passport with at least a minimum of 6 months’ validity for most of the countries requirements. It is also important to obtain a visa if the consulate requires you to have before you enter the country. This depends on the regulation for every passport type. Some countries will be asked to obtain ESTA or the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, which replaces the American express visa system in the US for certain countries. https://www.estaform.org/ was formed by the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, allowing 39 nations the freedom to travel to the US without needing to apply for an official American visa.

TSA Approved Lock

When traveling to the US it is a must to buy a TSA approved lock before packing your luggage. Transportation Security Administration or TSA implements strict baggage procedures for safety and security. All bags are screened and sometimes need to be physically checked so they are allowed to break your bag lock. It is helpful if you buy a TSA approved lock to avoid losing or breaking it and to keep your bags safe to your final destination.

Itinerary

The United States is a very big country and it has many states. Before your trip, it is essential to plan your itinerary so you can fulfill your American dream. Consider exceptional and thrilling destinations with rich histories and cultures. Of course don’t forget to list down the popular places like New York, LA, and Vegas. Prepare for the activities you might want to visit and try like Universal Studios. List down everything so that you will not miss out on anything on your trip.

Accommodation and Pocket Money

No one wants to cram at the airport with their heavy luggage and ruin the trip because of stress. Book your hotel or accommodation before your trip so that everything will go smoothly upon arrival in the US. You have endless options for accommodation so you can choose whether you prefer the luxurious or the budget time lodging. Most prices in the US are listed excluding the tax and it also depends on where you are visiting. So be prepared to have enough budgets as everything will have additional costs.

All things will run smoothly if you will be well prepared for your dream US trip. You just have to keep in mind that this time you also have to be extra careful and practice proper hygiene to prevent any health risk. Don’t forget to always bring alcohol and sanitizers and of course, always wash your hands to keep yourself traveling healthy and COVID free.
