Joseph Black × Luh Kel – Homesick

Today, the rapper/singer/songwriters Joseph Black and Luh Kel share their new emotionally charged single “Homesick.” Released via Untold Stories/Electric Feel/Capitol Records, “Homesick” reveals Blackߣs incredible gift for merging heart-on-sleeve storytelling with hard-hitting beats. Listen HERE and watch the lyric video HERE.

With its potent rhythm and haunting piano work, “Homesick” brings Black’s melodic flow to a high-impact track detailing his experience in heartbreak and betrayal. The song’s moody intensity is perfectly amplified by a soul-stirring verse from Luh Kel, a St. Louis-born rapper/singer/songwriter known for his gold-certified 2019 single “Wrong.”

“My life took a change for the better which caused me to move away. Now I am homesick for a person, and that’s what I expressed when I made this,” says Joseph Black “It doesn’t matter where I am in the world, you are my home and without you I am homesick.”

Bittersweet but undeniably catchy, “Homesick” spotlights the raw emotion Black has previously brought to tracks like his recent single “see you later” and his hit record “(i hope you) miss me.” A breakup anthem released on Valentine’s Day, the latter became a major phenomenon on TikTok thanks to a trend ironically started by the very ex for whom Black wrote the song on. Now at over 60million global streams, “(i hope you) miss me” also landed in the top 5 on Spotify’s US Viral 50 chart and garnered over a 3 million TikTok creates.

ABOUT JOSEPH BLACK

A 22-year-old self-made rapper, singer, and producer, Joseph Black is on a mission to make it. Thanks to his DIY hustle and tremendous talent, he first cracked the mainstream with “(i hope you) miss me,” a painfully honest breakup anthem released in early 2019. Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, Black had a chaotic upbringing that included growing up poor and frequently getting into fights at school before eventually dropping out. At age 15 the self-taught musician began exploring his creative side, inspired by an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Eminem and Lil Wayne to a number of country singer/songwriters. For several years he turned to the lawless, drug-ridden streets of his city, but never stopped pursuing his passion for music. With a sound that’s a virtual Pandora’s box just as likely to deliver a melodic banger, street anthem, or turnt-up-party-jam. Black is on the verge of a breakout and hopes his music offers others the same solace it’s always given him.

deryk – goodtimes

Auckland-based, UK-born newcomer deryk first arrested us with her affecting voice on her debut single “Call You Out” earlier this summer. She has since shared the moving follow up “One Star,” alongside announcing plans for her debut EP release WOMb out on October 2nd.

The EP focus track, “goodtimes” is a heart-on-sleeve account of a time in deryk’s life that she invites us to share with her. The song, which is at times almost uncomfortably intimate, succinctly showcases her impeccable ability to harness a mature understanding of life’s common experiences. A tale of heartache and lessons learnt, “goodtimes” manages to be both melancholic and uplifting—like only the best multidimensional pop music can.

LISTEN TO “goodtimes” HERE!

“‘goodtimes’ is about not being able to reminisce or enjoy looking back on a time period in your life because it turned out to be a complete waste of time. It’s like Good Times, except the tainted, bitter version. I don’t believe in regret because ‘everything is a learning experience blah blah blah’ but reminiscing and only seeing your oblivious, vulnerable self. Wearing rose tinted glasses can be self-destructive. Accepting defeat and letting ‘the goodtimes go’ is a healthy next step. At least you know better now,” says deryk.

The sound of deryk is unique and captivating, molding distinctive, rhythmic vocal phrasings and visceral lyrics around craftily submerged melodies and ghostly modular tones. Slow music for fast times, space and solace amongst the confusion, a gentle reveal in the age of instant gratification, mordant lines over sumptuous melodies—deryk is something special.

deryk is heavily influenced by British culture in all aspects for her creativity thanks to her mum. Musically, she draws inspiration from powerful female artists like PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Esperanza Spalding, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Bjork, as well as her love for Bristol and its culture in the 90’s, deryk has crafted her own sound that feels utterly contemporary while still retaining a hazy, timeless quality. Contributing to that is production and writing spar, Justyn Pilbrow, whose extensive experience with artists like The Neighbourhood, Chelsea Jade and Halsey helped deryk capture her vision.

Must-See Places in DC via Bike

By Lia Summers

Loop of the National Mall

The National Mall is the most popular attraction in Washington, DC for good reason. The iconic buildings, memorials, and greenery are breathtaking. Biking is one of the best ways to see the glory of the National Mall. Start at the 15th Street bike trail on the Northeast Side of the White House and follow 15th street past the Washington Monument. Stay on the sidewalk and go clockwise to view the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Capitol, the Holocaust Museum, the Jefferson Memorial, and the George Mason Memorial to Ohio Drive. Continue on Ohio Drive and view the Potomac River, the Arlington Memorial Bridge and Arlington National Cemetery in the distance. Hang a right on West Basin Drive to see the FDR Memorial, MLK Memorial and the DC World War I Memorial. Hang a left onto Independence Ave to see the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool and the Vietnam Memorial. Take Constitution Ave East and view the Federal Reserve, Constitution Gardens and the Lock-keeper’s House. Hang a Right onto 17th Street to get a close up view of the WW2 Memorial, the John Paul Jones Memorial and the Tidal Basin.

If you are feeling adventurous, cross the Arlington Memorial bridge on the North side into Virginia and cross to the West side of Jefferson Davis Highway to follow the trail to the Netherlands Carillon and a recently restored Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima).

Another option is to take the South side path on the Arlington Memorial Bridge and merge onto the Mount Vernon trail. Take the scenic ride along the Potomac River to the 14th Street Bridge and ride East to land back in DC at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

Hains Point

Hains Point is the location where the Potomac and Anacostia rivers meet and the location of East Potomac Park. Now that the SW Waterfront has been redeveloped, there are beautiful views along the road that hugs the perimeter of the park. There are trees along the route including Weeping Willows, Horse Chestnuts, Buckeyes and the oldest section of surviving Yoshino Cherry trees on the National Mall. There are also several recreational activities in East Potomac Park including swimming, tennis and mini golf.

Pennsylvania Ave Capitol/LOC/SC

Head East from South Side of the White house to the center bike lane on Pennsylvania Ave to see the historic buildings on Federal Triangle, City Hall, the Old Post Office, the National Gallery of Art and the Capitol Building. Bike up the walkway around the Capitol to the see the East side, which is the front of the Capitol and where every presidential inauguration has been held until Ronald Reagan’s in 1981. Behold the beautiful views of the Capitol visitor center, the Supreme Court and the Jefferson Library of Congress on First Street. Bike North on First past the Senate Buildings to view Union Station.

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens – Formerly known as Shaw Gardens, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is a historic water lily farm started by Walter and Helen Shaw Fowler. It is set in the Anacostia River Tidal Wetlands and is easily accessible on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail North bicycle Trail. Water lilies bloom from early May to mid-September and enjoy the lotus seed pod heads for three seasons. Enjoy the beautiful marshes, bird watch, or have a picnic!

Anacostia River Trail South and Kingman Island

Starting at RFK Stadium there is a lovely bike trail that hugs both sides of the Anacostia River. This trail passes Kingman Island, several boating clubs, fishermen, and beautiful views on the West Side of the Anacostia River. Cross the Philip Souza bridge and go North on the West side of the river for a complete loop, or continue South on the East side to the Navy Yard.

Navy Yard/Nats Stadium

The Anacostia river trail ends on 11th St SE. You can then cross the highway to the Navy Yard boardwalk and continue along the Potomac River and several historic military memorials to the boardwalk at Yards Park which hosts several restaurants and Nats Stadium.

Mt Olivet Cemetery and the National Arboretum

Mt. Olivet Cemetery is an underrated attraction that features some of the oldest graves in the city. Most importantly, they allow bikes on their main roads! This iconic cemetery is one of the oldest in Washington, DC and features rolling hills, ancient marble headstones and elaborate family vaults. It’s also the final resting place of Lincoln Conspirator, Mary Surratt and White House Architect, James Hoban.

This is a challenging ride with many hills, so it’s ideal for an electric bicycle. Mt. Olivet Cemetery is located in Northeast Washington, DC off of Bladensburg Road. It’s best to drive and park at the cemetery before you ride. The National Arboretum is across the street from Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Enjoy 400 acres of gardens, a world-class Bonsai collection, and a stunning display of the Old sandstone Capitol columns.

Zach Gill – Cocktail Yoga

ZACH GILL FLEXES HIS MUSICAL MUSCLES LIKE NEVER BEFORE ON GROUNDBREAKING NEW SOLO ALBUM COCKTAIL YOGA

Watch Lyric video for “Playground In Your Soul” HERE!

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist ZACH GILL unveils his third full-length solo album, Cocktail Yoga, today.

Stream Cocktail Yoga HEREvia Brushfire/Republic Records and view the lyric video for “Playground In Your Soul” HERE!

Zach Gill, who over the course of his career has accumulated over 18 million global streams, heralds the nine-track instrumental new album with the single “King Dancer’s Delight.” Punctuated by nature sounds, immersive production, and artful sonic transmissions, Cocktail Yoga also drew critical attention right out of the gate. In addition to features from JamBase and more, Santa Barbara Independent enthusiastically wrote, “To me, it sounds like that ‘space-age bachelor-pad music’ made famous by Mexican legend Esquivel!”

He bends genres on Cocktail Yoga and twists up instrumental escapism unlike anything else out there.

While quarantined at home this year, Zach locked himself in the “Creativity Lounge, i.e. his garage, and escaped. Tinkering and toying with instruments and gear accrued over decades, he tuned out the noise of the news and stress of a world under duress and simply played. Without words, he unassumingly conjured what he refers to as “sound spaces.

By happenstance he manifested an album that provides sonic respite and relief with fluid laidback performances straight from the heart right when we need it most. “King Dancer’s Delight” introduces his vision with its analog synths and ethereal keys, inviting audiences to breathe in the beat and exhale bliss.

In a time where we all feel like we all need a cocktail, or to do some yoga, Zach Gill asks the question… “Why not both?” Cocktail Yoga stretches the bounds of his creativity yet again. See a note from Zach below on the album.

What is Cocktail Yoga by Zach Gill?

At the start of the 2020 global lockdown, as a traveling musician, I found myself with a sudden plethora of time at home, surrounded by ideas and inspiring instruments. Over the last decade, I’ve created a small and always evolving music studio in my garage. I call it the Creativity Lounge. Each time I get a new instrument or piece of recording gear, I spend a little time exploring musical possibilities with it. These aren’t songs in the traditional sense but more like “sound spaces” and as time has gone on I’ve ended up with quite a few of these exploratory, instrumental tracks. Each one unique, like an alien planet with its own inhabitants, climates, and landscapes. When the news of the day was stressful and life felt chaotic with too many voices in my head, I’d put on my headphones, fire up the recording gear and escape to these sonic planets without words, each time adding new elements and whittling away old, until one day I realized I’d accidentally made an album. An album called Cocktail Yoga.

Cocktail Yoga is music for unwinding the mind, the body and the soul. It’s music meant for dreaming, for painting, for cooking and for crafting. It might inspire you to stretch your hammys and roll your shoulders, or it might inspire you to make a hot toddy and curl up with a good book or call an old friend. It’s playful and seamless and doesn’t require anything from you. Inspired by composers like Esquivel, Martin Denny, and The Three Suns, Cocktail Yoga is fresh, yet rooted in an older, seemingly simpler time. It’s a portal out of the realms of opinion and decision and into the spaces between, where time is infinite and all endings are also beginnings.

Enjoy responsibly,

Love
Zach

Part 2 also features the previously released track, A Good Song Never Dies which debuted in PlayStation’s MLB The Show 20. Keep on the lookout for accompanying visualizers and acoustic videos which are currently in pre-production. Conceptually, THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK is modeled after a three-act movie, sometimes referred to as the Hero’s Journey storyline, manifested as three Parts that eventually combine to form a single album.

PART 1 was heralded by the infectious lead single Van Horn. Known for their cinematic aesthetic, the band brought the western-themed official music video for track directed by Saint Motel frontman A/J Jackson to life with an inventive performance on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!. Earlier this year, the band sold out their entire North American headline tour in support of PART 1, culminating with hometown finale in Los Angeles, days before the country went into quarantine due to Covid-19.

Remaining on the cutting edge of innovation, Saint Motel make history as “the first band to open their own virtual world” powered by Mozilla Hubs. In this 3D VR chatroom enabled for all headsets and browsers, audiences can enter an exclusive, immersive environment to engage directly with the band through virtual meet-and-greets and intimate, live performances, consume exclusive video content, and much more. Additionally, it doubles as a space for fans to congregate and get to know each other. Saint Motel’s New World upholds what has become a tradition of engaging with groundbreaking technology for the guys. Visit here to explore the New World. In 2016, they dropped their Elektra full length debut saintmotelevision as the first-ever Virtual Reality album and first-ever Augmented Reality album and accompanied the record with the free saintmotel AR/VR app.

In recent months, Saint Motel has made a concerted effort to mobilize their fans to join them on a pair of philanthropic causes through special, limited edition merchandise. Named for their breakout hit Just My Type, the pins are also available for purchase with 100% of net profits going to The American Red Cross. Likewise, Saint Motel has joined with the National Independent Venue Association’s #SaveOurStages campaign to ask Congress to provide aid to their network of nearly 2,000 independent live music venues across the countrymany of which the band has performed in ߝ that have been 100% shut down with zero revenue due to the pandemic. Watch the Too Many Nights Lyric Video HERE

Following the stellar success of his Don’t Need Love featuring GRACEY, 220 Kid returns with his latest single Too Many Nights alongside close friend and collaborator JC Stewart. Too Many Nights is out now via Astralwerks. Listen HERE and watch the LA road trip themed lyric video featuring 220 KID & JC Stewart HERE.

Too Many Nights encompasses the instantly anthemic melodies and bold, infectious beats 220 Kid is fast becoming synonymous for. A producer, DJ and writer that centers powerful and emotive songwriting at the forefront of all of his music, Too Many Nights was written alongside Joe Janiak (Ellie Goulding, Tove Lo, Snakehips, Britney Spears) and features an impassioned and uplifting vocal from rising pop powerhouse, JC Stewart.

Speaking of the single, 220 Kid said “this is a special single to me, written at a pretty wild time in my life when I was very torn and trying to find answers. I remember going to the studio and texting Joe on the way saying I thought we’d had too many nights in LA and it was taking its toll on my personal life and dream chasing. It has emotional value to me, but it’s also special because it’s a completely different step to what people will expect; they will be thinking we are coming with a copy of Don’t Need Love, but we’re going with something fresh, it doesn’t sound like anything out there, its dramatic and emotional but fun and playful, it’ll have you in your feels but also singing and dancing about.

Combining bold riffs and a progressive dance sound, Too Many Nights brings both a chill house Balearic vibe underpinned by pop lyrics that have potent hit potential. This fusion builds to a harder dance beat and bassline drops making for a record that is truly multifaceted both sonically and lyrically.Too Many Nights follows a string of 220 Kid remixes that recently just dropped, reimagining both the hit Anne Marie single To Be Young featuring Doja Cat as well the latest Little Mix track Holiday. Amassing over 80 million streams across all platforms alongside a top ten spot for his first release, 220 Kid’s musical ascent has been somewhat stratospheric with his breakthrough single peaking at #1 in the US Dance Radio Chart as well as earning gold BRIT certification.
