Tones and I – Welcome to the Madhouse

Global superstar Tones And I has announced her widely anticipated debut album, Welcome To The Madhouse, which will arrive worldwide on July 16th Tones And I has shared the forthcoming album’s lead single, “Cloudy Day,” which is available on all streaming platforms and accompanied by an animated video streaming on her official YouTube channel. Available for pre-order today, Welcome To The Madhouse stands out as a deeply reflective and personal body of work for Tones And I, with the Australian artist writing the entire album by herself and co-producing every song.

Tones And I commented on the significance of Welcome To The Madhouse explaining, “This album for me is very up and down and reflects the forever changing emotions in me. There are songs on the album that were written before “Dance Monkey,” about not knowing if busking was right for me. There are songs about my good friend T passing away and not wanting to deal with those emotions. The ups and downs of life in lockdown and the mental challenges/struggles. Some songs make me laugh and some make me cry but there is no running theme or vibe to the album – the songs are unique to how I was feeling the day I wrote them.”

Regarding “Cloudy Day,” Tones And I elaborated on the single’s origins noting, “After my friend T passed away I was struggling to write any songs that were happy or that I even liked. I met up with a friend who told me this saying from his late mum: ‘On a cloudy day, look up into the sky and find the sun.’ I knew I wanted to use that as a lyric and the next time I went into the studio I wrote ‘Cloudy Day.'”

Tones And I Initially laid the foundation for Welcome To The Madhouse last year with the release of “Fly Away,” a poetic and powerful composition which has amassed over 190 million streams with Tones And I delivering performances of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She followed it up in 2021 with the release of “Won’t Sleep,” which arrived alongside an official music video continuing what has become a tradition of highly unexpected and unforgettable visuals. Both tracks reflected the inimitable idiosyncrasies of Tones And I’s signature style, highlighting her clever lyricism, unpredictable songcraft, and indisputable knack for a hook.

Having had to postpone her global tour in 2020 due to COVID-19, Tones And I will be announcing new US, European and UK headline dates in the coming weeks. For more information on Tones And I’s tour dates and tickets to upcoming shows, click HERE.

Tones And I‘s global smash “Dance Monkey” officially became the 3rd most streamed song of all time on Spotify making the track the most streamed song ever by a female artist on the platform. The “Dance Monkey” official music video has surpassed 1.6 billion views on YouTube, while the track has eclipsed six billion streams globally and earned 4x platinum certification from the RIAA in the US as well as multi-platinum or diamond certification in sixteen other countries. Plus, “Dance Monkey” hit #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, making “Dance Monkey” the first top five Hot 100 hit solely written by a woman in over eight years. In Australia, “Dance Monkey” holds the all-time record for the most weeks spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, while in the UK “Dance Monkey” has made Tones And I the longest running #1 of all time by a female artist on the Official Singles Chart. The New York Times detailed the making of “Dance Monkey” in their Diary of a Song video series, speaking with Tones And I about her journey from local busker to global star.

About Tones and I

Originally from Australia’s Mornington Peninsula, Tones And I traveled to Byron Bay in early 2018 to take a chance at busking. On the first day she had crowds spilling onto the street. Tones quit her retail job and decided to make Byron her new home where she lived out of her van for a year, honing her songwriting and busking every weekend. A year later, she had one of the biggest songs in the world with her global smash “Dance Monkey.”

The Avalances – Since I Left You Deluxe Edition

The 20th-anniversary edition of The Avalanches‘ groundbreaking debut album, Since I Left You, has been released via Astralwerks. Originally released in Australia in 2000 and in the U.S./U.K. in 2001, Since I Left You was named one of the year’s best albums by critics around the world and later placed in the Top 10 of Pitchfork’s Top 200 Albums of the 2000s and in the Top 20 of Rolling Stone’s Greatest EDM Albums of All Time. Since I Left You 20th-Anniversary Deluxe Edition is available in vinyl, CD, and digital formats HERE.

In the hours leading up to the release of the deluxe edition, The Avalanches shared the visualizer for “Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life” (MF DOOM Remix), one of the remarkable remixes exclusive to the deluxe edition. A previously unheard vocal contribution on the track serves as a bittersweet homage from the late, enigmatic master of the hip-hop underground, who passed away last October. Daniel Dumilethe, who performed as MF DOOM, was praised by The New York Times for forging “a style that was intricate and imaginative, calling on both esoteric and lowbrow references as well as cartoonish imagery in lyrics that could be poignantly emotional.” Born in London and raised on Long Island, Dumilethe released six albums plus full-length collaborations with Madlib and Danger Mouse, among others.

Prince Paul, the de facto fourth member of De La Soul and renowned remixer of Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Queen Latifah, revisits the album’s exhilarating title track and acclaimed British producer/DJ Leon Vynehall brings a profound sense of reflection to his remix of “Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life.” The deluxe edition also includes fresh mixes from Mario Caldato Jr., who produced the Beastie Boys’ multi-Platinum classics Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty.

No album ever made history quite like The Avalanches‘ debut. A meticulous labor of love sifted from the second-hand record bins of Melbourne, Since I Left You was an unprecedented act of musical invention filtered through the loving hands of young music-obsessed DJs and musicians to blossom into the ultimate feelgood world party soundtrack. The boundary-pushing orchestration of samples, some say as many as 3,500 uniquely sourced and spliced sound fragments, was unanimously acclaimed as an act of technical genius. But the glowing heart of the project, a story of oneness through time, space, and infinite diversity, was the magic spell that made the world melt in elation.

Since I Left You’s achievement was to break the easy but facile equation of depth with darkness, intensity with misery: on this record, it is happiness that is the complicated and mysterious state.”

The release and subsequent touring in support of Since I Left You was followed by a 16-year radio silence, which was broken with the release of The Avalanches’ sophomore album, Wildflower, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart and atop the Australian Albums chart in 2016. Their third album,  We Will Always Love You, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and won the prestigious 2020 Australian Music Prize.

Announced as the inaugural Luminary Artists in Residence, The Avalanches will be performing Since I Left You with Australia’s Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on July 30 as part of “Illuminate Adelaide”: a major new event celebrating innovation, music, art, and light.

It’s a special song to me because it symbolizes focusing on the things that matter most to me in life. What keeps me grounded, happy and healthy. I am really happy to release this song, especially during times like these, when more than ever we need to be reminded of what really matters. I hope this will be a pick-me-up for my fans. We all need it right now!” The remaining dates on the Just Be Real 2020 tour – GIIA’s first headline outing – have been rescheduled for August. The run will include an August 22 hometown show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. Tickets are available HERE. See below for itinerary.

GIIA joined Louis the Child last summer for the duo’s sold-out Red Rocks Amphitheatre show. “FOCUS” is the follow up to February’s “SWITCH OFF,” which Flaunt hailed as “her most powerful single yet…a new bass-heavy anthem.” The New Nine said, “EVAN GIIA is the new cool girl to keep on your radar…’Switch Off’ is upbeat, pulsing and sure to be on repeat on your playlists.” Soundazed praised the “a bass-heavy electropop rager.” E! Released by ODESZA’S Foreign Family Collective in 2018, GIIA’s breakout single “WESTWORLD” and the accompanying music video propelled her to #1 on Hype Machine. Combined global streams of the song now exceed 10 million. Since the release of “WESTWORLD,” GIIA has been in sessions with Hudson Mohawke, Georgia Ku, Nate Campany, Kyle Shearer, Chris Lyon, RITUAL, OjiVolta, Kate Morgan, CHVRCHES, What So Not, Matias Mora and Larzz.
