VanJess × Lucky Daye – Slow Down

Nigerian-American sister duo VanJess release a slinky new rendition of their song “Slow Down” featuring Keep Cool/RCA Records labelmate and fellow R&B heavyweight Lucky Daye. An undeniable standout in what Rolling Stone calls one of the best projects of 2021 (‘Homegrown’ EP), the Top 15 R&B radio single that has amassed nearly ten million global streams exemplifies their glimmering, nostalgic sound.

Listen to “Slow Down” Ft. Lucky Daye here.

On “Slow Down,” VanJess’ on-point harmonies are accentuated by a brassy saxophone line and romantic production from Snakehips & Jonah Christian. In May they made their national television debut on the Tamron Hall Show performing the “sultry ballad” (NPR Music).

Watch the performance here.

‘Homegrown’ – the short yet expansive project – was released February 5th via Keep Cool/RCA Records and is the follow up to their debut album, ‘Silk Canvas,’ which caught the attention of critical gatekeepers for its unique soul/funk integration and careful collaborations.

The project hosts a robust group of collaborators, including KAYTRANADA, Devin Morrison and Jimi Tents. VanJess takes the listener through an alluring sonic journey that weaves through groovy, high energy beats and slowed down, sensual harmonies. From start to finish, the nine-song collection is a showcase of VanJess’ elevated vocal and visual stylings – a testament to the incredible heights they’ve reached since their debut album in 2018.

In 2019, Keep Cool partnered with creative agency Yours Truly and adidas Originals to bring 80+ vocalists, instrumentalists, producers, songwriters, and the one and only Babyface to a historic mansion in Los Angeles to write, record and build together. After a full week of sessions and 120 songs recorded, Keep Cool/RCA Records finally release the compilation EP, Songs From Scratch: Volume 1. Listen HERE.

Songs From Scratch: Volume 1 is a continuation of the adidas Originals and Yours Truly’s long-running Songs from Scratch series that has produced songs from Chance the Rapper, Kelela, Brent Faiyaz, Kehlani, Ty Dolla $ign, Mura Masa, Danny Brown, and more.

Songs from Scratch curator, Will Abramson says, Songs from Scratch Vol. 1, is a natural extension of our ambition to put artists into positions where they can make things that surprise them, and us. For 9 years we’ve curated smaller 1:1 pairings but we always wondered: what would happen if we put a whole bunch of artists and producers in one place, took really good care of them and let them run free? We’re grateful to Keep Cool and adidas originals for helping make that dream a reality.

Keep Cool co-founder and EVP of A&R at RCA Records, Tunji Balogun says: We started Keep Cool with the goal of bringing people together in the name of creativity, inclusivity and great art. Partnering with Adidas on Creator Camp was a magical opportunity to connect artists from all walks of life in an unfiltered, authentic environment that exemplified the power of music in creating bonds and bringing creatives together.

The official camp documentary, produced by Yours Truly, is a kaleidoscopic vision of camp, featuring appearances from Babyface, Smino, Ant Clemons, Victoria Monet, Jozzy, Dijon, Umi, Ruel, D’Mile, Xavier Omär, and more. Watch HERE.

RCA RECORDS × LOUD ROBOT — NNENA’S “HEART MOAN”

NEW SINGLE & LIVE VIDEO “HEART MOAN” OUT NOW FROM NNENA’S FORTHCOMING DEBUT EP BIPOLAR AF OUT JUNE 25TH VIA LOUD ROBOT/RCA RECORDS

On June 11, 2021, RCA Records announced a brand-new partnership and label deal with Loud Robot, the record label from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot to release burgeoning new musical talent.

To kick off this partnership, Nnena, the first musical signing to Loud Robot, released a brand-new track and video for “Heart Moan,” the second track revealed from her forthcoming debut EP BIPOLAR AF, which is set for release on June 25th via Loud Robot/RCA Records. You can watch a live performance of “Heart Moan” HERE. You can pre-order BIPOLAR AF HERE.

Other new artist signings to Loud Robot/RCA Records will be announced soon.

Nnena has scripted and produced comedic bite-sized sketches to post as companion pieces for each track from her forthcoming EP. Check out the one for “Heart Moan” HERE and for the previously released track “Rewind” HERE. Last month, Nnena released a hilarious visualizer and stunning live performance video for lead track “Rewind” from her EP.

An incredible writer, lyricist, rapper and vocalist, bursting with effusive energy and a massive personality, the Cleveland native, born Nnena Adigwe to Nigerian parents, credits some of her robust, descriptive storytelling impulses to her past screenwriting experience. A former basketball player, Nnena began writing comedic sketches during college. That soon led to working on more full-fledged projects—the kinds of works that needed sound tracking. Rather than pay licensing fees, she tried her hand at making her own music.

Nnena has already received critical praise from Teen VogueFlood, BBC 1’s Annie Mac, Apple Music’s Ebro, and has been a sought-after songwriter for artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna and Normani and has recently performed as the opening act for rising star Boogie, Mayorkun and Trinidad James.

She explains making music for her is about telling stories that simultaneously define us and connect us to others. “I want my music to elicit the truth and make the listener feel comfortable. I want people not to feel alone and I never want my music to leave anyone out.”

In the music and visuals that she creates, she shares stories, scenarios, debacles and personal experiences with a warmth, humor and finesse that almost make you forget how hard life can be: “I’ll make the worst situations funny.”

Nnena also finds inspiration for her music from the female experience: “My music is what other females wish they could say out loud, but I do it for them in a song.”

Her music reflects her eclectic influences ranging from Otis Redding to Millie Jackson, from Queen Latifah to Miriam Makeba to Kendrick Lamar and especially “Lauryn Hill, she molded me the most,” along with other neo-soul genre artists Musiq Soulchild and Jill Scott, as well as Drake, J. Cole and Tiwa Savage.
