The State of Sports Betting in Texas – Will it be Legal?

Sports gambling is forbidden in Texas even though the state has a large sports fan population. Even though there are signs of a shift in Texas’ attitude toward gambling, people should not expect to see regulated sports wagering within the next year.

Sports betting regulation has been proposed in Texas, but there are a few key obstacles to overcome.

The State of Sports Betting in Texas: Is it Legal?

Regrettably, that isn’t the case. Sports betting might make Texas the 2nd largest online sports betting jurisdiction in the United States, as per numerous analyses.

If sports betting is ever legalized in Texas, Texans will put $11.5 billion in sports wagering annually, according to the estimates of the state. To put it another way, a 6.75 percent tax would bring in more than $950 million for the government.

Notwithstanding the state’s notoriety for its love of football, it has maintained one of the slowest states to authorize internet betting. As of right now, no one can predict when the sluggish pace would take up again. Texas residents could only make sports wagers via the services of overseas bookmakers. Using offshore bookmakers to make bets in Texas or any other jurisdiction where sports gambling is outlawed is legal since they are located in nations that allow it.

In comparison to other bookmakers, offshore betting companies have the benefit of offering highly competitive odds. In light of the foregoing, it is strongly suggested that you do your homework on the various online bookmakers. There are many credible and intelligent sources of information that cover all aspects and answers the question ‘can I bet on sports online in Texas’ in great detail.

Sports Betting on the Internet in Texas: A Brief Overview

There is no legitimate tradition of sports gambling in Texas, which is a shame. The county has long enforced anti-gambling laws, giving this one of the most restrictive places in the nation. Horse and dog racing are legal in Texas, but wagers must be made in person. It’s illegal to gamble on OTBs.

To better understand the current betting climate in Texas, consider the state’s betting history:

In 1934, Texas became the first state to establish Parvati horse racing gambling.

After four years of legal thoroughbred racing in Texas, racecourses have been shut down, and betting on horse races has been banned.

Until 1971, charity betting was exempt from anti-gambling laws. Two years later, this ruling was overturned, making it illegal once more.

Charitable gambling licenses were legalized in 1983. A revision of the state law was therefore required in 1981.

Horse racing Parvati betting increased in 1987 because of a positive state referendum outcome. When the earliest racecourses outside the United States began collecting bets via broadcast simulcasts in 1993, it marked a significant shift in the industry.

Casino cruises are authorized to operate as long as the boat is within the territorial waters of the United States. The enterprise had been going for twenty years until it was closed down.

As a result of a state lottery decision in 1993, both drawing and scratch-off operations will be allowed.

Tribal group compacts come into focus when bingo halls and casinos on tribal lands are closed down and rebuilt several times. A little distance from the Mexican frontier, south of San Antonio, the Kickapoo Indians hold the sole surviving tribal casino.

Some proposals to boost gambling in the state in 2015 were never implemented. As part of the idea, video poker machines would be offered at racetracks and eight government casinos.

Is Fantasy Sports Legal in the Lone Star State?

Whether or not these types of wagers are permitted by law is a subject of debate.

DFS is not penalized in Texas, despite previous failed attempts to legalize the activity altogether.

Texas is willing to let daily fantasy sports enthusiasts from Texas engage on 2 sites while it considers its future moves on sports gambling.

Who Knows What the Future Will Bring

Although there is still a long way to go, the passage of new legislation to enable sports gambling provides us with optimism for the future.

As per the American Sports Wagering Association, regulated sports gambling may generate over $3.7 billion in additional revenue and over 9,500 new jobs in the United States. Since Texans already bet on sports illegally and in other places, a new law is likely to be approved. The American Pastors Union of Texas has more than 3.5 million members in Texas. As well as opposing the legalization of sports betting, they also condemn the National Lottery.

The spokesperson for the Union said that the planned tax on sports betting will impact the state’s poorest inhabitants disproportionately, similar to the lottery.

It’s Regressive to the point of making a tax system blush. Is it a great idea to spend the money we donate to help others pay for our own government? However, Kohler was skeptical about the claims.

However, it should be noted that in 2016, the State Lottery raised $1.9 billion for educational purposes. The tax revenue generated by legal sports wagering will be far more than the tax revenue generated by illegal sports gambling.

K-pop boy band inside 360 Magazine

Seventeen unveils medley

K-pop stage-breakers SEVENTEEN unveiled their highlight medley today, providing a glimpse into the 9 tracks on the act’s 4th studio album Face the Sun ahead of its arrival on May 27.

The highlight medley opens with “Darl+ing,” the band’s first-ever English song released last month in advance. It soon segues into a highlight from the lead single “HOT,” a hip-hop based track that encapsulates a riveting listen into the band’s dedication and passion for the path they are on.

The medley then unpacks the dynamic sonic profile of the 7 remaining tracks, seamlessly transitioning from one genre to another. All 13 members make an appearance across various backdrops and sets, singing along to the rock-infused “DON QUIXOTE,” “March,” the pop sounds of “Domino,” “Shadow,” the mellow vocals of “‘bout you,” “IF you leave me,” before closing to the trap beats of the final track “Ash.”

SEVENTEEN will showcase live performances of selected tracks during their comeback show at 7 PM KST on May 28. As anticipation peaks, Face the Sun passed the 2 million pre-order sales mark a week ahead of its release, reaching an all-time high for the band.

The K-pop performance powerhouse also recently signaled their grand return to the concert stage after 2 years and 4 months, announcing ‘SEVENTEEN WORLD TOUR [BE THE SUN].’ SEVENTEEN will kick off the tour on June 25 with two consecutive dates in Seoul, followed by shows in 12 North American cities. More shows are expected to be added to the list, including cities in Asia and a Japan Dome Tour.

New Health Trend: Aqua Cycling

New health trends are quickly emerging as people seek ways of keeping fit. One effective health trend is aqua cycling. Aqua cycling continues to gain popularity for being the perfect exercise that offers maximum health benefits with very minimal pain.

What is Aqua Cycling?

Aqua cycling is a form of aerobic exercise that uses a specialized stationary aqua bike, known as a Hydrorider, in a pool. The equipment is submerged in 1.2 meters -1.6 meters of water and it features 4 paddle flywheels to ensure resistance increases as the cycling speed increases.  Water Cycling combines a low-impact but intense cycling workout with arm, chest, and core exercises for full-body fitness which is easier on your joints than other forms of cardio like running.

Health Benefits Of Aqua Cycling

Improves Cardiovascular Health

The aqua cycling workout is the perfect way to maintain heart health and a healthy cardiovascular system. Water cycling enables you to have a higher intensity workout but maintain a lower heart rate since your heartbeat frequency is 10% lower while working out in water than when on land.

Working out in the water has many benefits for heart health and help those suffering from a heart condition manage it and live a healthy life. The benefits of water fitness include: Making the heart stronger, decreasing the resting heart rate, making blood vessels more supple & reducing blood pressure Increasing stroke volume.

Improved flexibility

While you’re riding on a stationary bike in the water, your body will be working to support itself as it moves. This will help improve your flexibility and range of motion in your hips and knees, which can be especially beneficial for people who spend a lot of time sitting or standing up straight all day.

In addition, it’s also great for loosening up your back and shoulders—especially if you’ve been experiencing pain or tightness there.

Many people find that aqua cycling helps them improve their posture. Aqua cycling has low impact on joints and does not lead to micro-damage to muscle fibres and connective tissues. This reduced impact on your joints, muscles, and bones can help improve your posture since there is no micro-damages or injury that could negatively affect your body positioning.

Weight loss

Aqua cycling is a low-impact exercise that burns calories and tones your body. The water creates resistance, which helps you burn more calories than other forms of exercise, while also providing a comfortable environment to perform.

Aqua cycling is an excellent way to achieve weight loss goals. The high resistance of the water makes aqua cycling a quick and effective calorie burner. This burns up to 800kcal per hour since your body works harder and has a higher metabolic rate, leading to reduced body fat.

The high resistance and evenly distributed load ensure that body muscles are evenly exercised, giving the body an even look. This is unlike normal exercise where some muscles are exercised more, giving the body an uneven appearance with some muscles being bigger than others.

Low-impact workout

Aqua cycling is a low-impact workout that allows you to get the most out of your cardio time. Because it’s done in water, there’s low impact on joints, muscles, and tendons which makes this an ideal exercise for people with joint pain or injuries.

The buoyancy of the water also helps to distribute the weight of your body evenly so there’s less pressure on your joints. This means no next-day soreness and you can continue to work out more frequently.

Low risk of injury

Aqua cycling is a low-impact workout that can be done by people of all ages and fitness levels. While the motion of pedaling in water may take some getting used to, the risk of injury is minimal compared with other exercise options.

It’s also great for those who are injured or disabled and want to stay active, as well as those who are new to exercise but aren’t ready for high-impact workouts yet.

Improve Coordination And Body Strength

Aqua cycling improves coordination and body strength in the following ways;

  • Balance and coordination: The water provides a natural resistance that helps build your balance and coordination.
  • Strength: Cycling under water causes hydrostatic pressure that increases blood flow to the muscles. This energises your muscles so they don’t fatigue quickly, enabling you to work out longer and build stronger muscles.
  • Core muscles: Vigorous cycling is an effective way to improve core strength by working the abdominal muscles, back, and pelvic floor muscles.
  • Flexibility: Since you are exercising in water, it allows for a greater range of motion than that achieved on dry land.

Aqua cycling is a great way to improve physical health, and it’s easy on the joints and muscles

Aqua cycling is a great way to improve physical health, and it’s easy on the joints and muscles.

Studies show that aqua cycling improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and body composition. As a bonus: it can be adapted for people with limited mobility or certain medical conditions.

Aqua Cycling classes are also a fun way to stay in shape while meeting new people in your community! It’s perfect for beginners who want to try something new without having to worry about injuries from intense workouts. This low-impact exercise will help you get started on your journey toward becoming more physically active and as you cycle resistance increases so you can continue to grow and challenge yourself. Aqua cycling is good for beginners all the way to elite athletes.

Start your aqua cycling journey today and enjoy its immense benefits.

RACE TO ERASE MS

29TH ANNUAL RACE TO ERASE MS GALA RAISES OVER $1.4 MILLION

Annual Event Featured a Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive Fashion Show and Musical Performance by Nile Rodgers & Chic

On Friday, May 20, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) advocate and Center Without Walls founder, Nancy Davis, welcomed guests to the Fairmont Century Plaza for the 29th Annual Race to Erase MS Gala.  The event raised over $1.4 million to benefit the Race to Erase MS and its Center Without Walls program, a collaboration of top MS research centers working together as a team on ground-breaking research with the goal of treating and, ultimately, finding a cure for MS. The star-studded event featured a performance by Grammy Award-winning composer, producer, and guitarist Nile Rodgers and Chic. Additionally, Tommy Hilfiger presented its latest adaptive collection in a fashion show at this year’s gala. First launched in 2017, the adaptive line features innovatively designed clothing that makes dressing easier for adults and children with disabilities.

Guests at this year’s event included Race to Erase MS Founder Nancy Davis, performer Nile Rodgers & Chic, Fashion Designer Tommy Hilfiger, and special guests Alan Bersten,  Anna Trebunskaya, Angela Lewis, Ashley Alexiss, Austin Aaron, Brandee Evans, Candace Nicholas-Lippman, Christine Devine, Crystal Kung Minkoff, Cybill Shepherd, Daniella Karagach, Darone Okolie, David Faustino, Dawnmarie Deshaies, Deacon Phillippe, Dorothy Lucey, Ed Begley Jr., Ellie Zeiler, Emma Kenney, Emma Norton, Emmett Hunter, Frances Fisher, Francesca Capaldi, Garcelle Beauvais, Gigi Gorgeous, Greg Germann, Greg Phillinganes, Hero Hunter, Inde Navarrette, Isaac Boots, J. Mallory McCree, James Tupper, Jason Lewis, Jay Huguley, Jen Kober, Joely Fisher, Joey Zauzig, Kathy Hilton, Katie Cassidy, Lauren Ash, Madison Grace, Michael Campion, Pasha Pashkov, Samantha Hanratty, Shaun Robinson, Sheree Zampino, Siedah Garrett, Taryn Manning, Tim Realbuto, Vanna White, Victoria Justice, Vivica Fox, and more!

The evening began with a Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive fashion show with models of all abilities on the runway highlighting TOMMY HILFIGER’s innovative line of clothing. The collection features discreet modifications – such as one-handed zippers for easy closure, seams that open to accommodate prosthetics and seated wear designed for wheelchair riders. Each piece is designed to make dressing easier, without sacrificing style or quality. Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive’s mission is to make fashion accessible to everyone so they feel empowered to express themselves through the clothing they wear.

Race to Erase MS founder Nancy Davis took the stage next, thanking guests for being in the room to celebrate the 29th Annual Gala.  She shared her excitement to be back at the Fairmont Century Plaza and spoke of the incredible accomplishments of the organization over the years, including raising over $50 million for Race to Erase MS and its Center Without Walls program. Nancy also thanked her family for the love and support they have provided her to achieve this important goal.

Kathy Hilton, Garcelle Beauvais, and Crystal Minkoff introduced the luxurious live auction, which featured one-of-a-kind opportunities including lunch with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills themselves – including Kathy Hilton, Sutton Stracke, Dorit Kemsley and Garcelle Beauvais, a Four-night Stay at the Fabulous Four Seasons Resort Maui, a Four-night stay at the Little Nell & Aspen Skiing Company in Aspen, a recording session with Nile Rodgers, a one-of-a-kind NFT, and more.  The big item of the night was a Lars Beusker limited-edition panther photograph, which sold to the highest bidder for $39,000.

Vivica A. Fox, Taryn Manning, and Tim Realbuto took to the stage to introduce a video about Race to Erase MS and the research done at the Center Without Walls. Singer-songwriter Siedah Garrett then introduced the musical guest for the evening, legendary performer Nile Rodgers & Chic, who brought down the house playing hits “Dance, Dance, Dance,” “We Are Family,” “Le Freak,” and many more.

In what has become a Race to Erase MS tradition over the past 29 years, an uplifting rendition of “Lean On Me” was performed as the finale of the evening, led by Siedah Garrett, with help from Greg Phillinganes. They invited audience members to join them onstage, alongside Nancy Davis and Nile Rodgers, to close out the special evening.

The Race to Erase MS is honored by the gracious design contribution for the event by Shepard Fairey and Studio Number One. The original artwork was featured in all gala communications; exclusive event merchandise featuring the design is available online at shop.erasems.org. The gala also featured www.159.gallery Los Angeles, which exclusively represents world-renowned German wildlife photographer Lars Beusker, and is represented by agent Sabine Niederberghaus. They donated the sold-out image “Panther” with edition number 1/10 from Lars Beusker’s private collection in XXL size of 94’5” (2,40 meters) for auction. The tote for the event gift bag was also sponsored by the gallery and designed by the artist himself showing one of his extraordinary images. In addition, during the gala event an exclusive showcase of 10 of his artworks were on display, with 30% of sales that evening supporting Race to Erase MS.

Race to Erase MS was founded in 1993 by Nancy Davis and is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of Multiple Sclerosis. Since the Race to Erase MS foundation was created, there has been more than $50 million raised and 22 FDA approved therapies created to aggressively fight MS that have provided hope, inspiration, and resources to those in the Multiple Sclerosis community. The gala directly benefits the foundation’s Center Without Walls program, a unique collaboration between the world’s leading MS research scientists and investigators who have bolstered their individual efforts into collective action that has led to exciting discoveries in the search for a cure.

The Center Without Walls program currently includes physicians, scientists, and clinicians from Cedars-Sinai, UCSF, Harvard, Yale, Oregon Health Science University, Johns Hopkins, UCLA and USC. The Race to Erase MS Gala has been instrumental in funding pilot studies that have contributed to drugs now on the market and other very important therapies that are improving the lives of people worldwide suffering from MS.

Davis also created the annual “Orange You Happy to Erase MS” campaign, which takes place for the entire month of May (MS Awareness Month) and adds yet another branch of fundraising for MS research.  Throughout the month, a variety of orange products, many of which are specially created for this initiative, are sold to benefit the cause and elevate public awareness about MS.

Eleven Tips for Good Brain Health

Your heart may pump blood through your body, keeping you alive, but the brain is what makes you uniquely you. As we age, our brains get older too and will decrease in size and function. By taking action now, you can reduce your risk factors for more rapid aging. Healthy habits can also lower your risk of mental health problems, stroke and dementia.

  1. Exercise Regularly

Working out increases blood flow to your brain and can boost the size of your hippocampus, which shrinks as you age. Getting some form of movement for 30 minutes a day can drastically improve your memory and cognition.

Studies have shown benefits from most types of exercise, including aerobics, weight training, yoga, pilates, tai chi and dancing. If you don’t have the time or ability to complete a full workout, start small and break your movement into chunks throughout the day.

  1. Schedule Yearly Exams

Yearly check-ups with your primary care doctor can catch any number of health-related issues. During your appointment, you may undergo a brief neurological exam to assess your balance, mental stability, muscle strength and reflexes. Any problems with these signs or your vitals would tip your provider off to a more significant problem and hopefully get you the early intervention you need.

  1. Watch Cardiovascular Health

Heart conditions can negatively impact brain health. High blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar are risk factors for dementia and other cognitive problems associated with aging. Also, blood clots keep oxygen from getting to parts of the brain and can cause a stroke, which can lead to permanent damage or death.

Regular checkups with your primary care physician and cardiologist can help you gain control over cardiovascular problems.

  1. Get Quality Sleep

One of the best things you can do for your brain is to give it time to repair itself. While you sleep, your brain clears out toxins that can cause Alzheimer’s and dementia. It also converts short-term memories into long-term and clears out any unnecessary information. Getting 7-9 consecutive hours of sleep at night also improves cognition, focus and mood.

To get the best night’s sleep, don’t eat stimulating foods within a few hours of bedtime, turn off electronics an hour before bed and have a consistent nighttime routine designed to help you wind down and go to bed at the same time each night.

  1. Quit Smoking

Smoking negatively affects many of your body’s systems, including your brain. Smokers are more likely to suffer a stroke, dementia and cancer and tend to have more rapid age-related brain volume loss.

The good news is quitting can reverse these adverse effects. Within 5-15 years, most of the increased risks level out with nonsmokers. Stopping this habit as soon as possible limits the potential for severe and lasting health problems.

  1. Protect Your Head

Accidents happen, which is why you need to take extra safety precautions. Head trauma doesn’t even have to cause a concussion to be detrimental to your overall brain health. If you’re in an accident, doctors will perform a diagnostic to check your mental capabilities. Taking a little extra time to buckle your seatbelt or put on a helmet can help you prevent serious head injury and loss of brain function.

Early signs of brain injury include blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, confusion and problems with balance and coordination. Repeat head injuries worsen these problems and can lead to long-term brain problems, including impaired cognition and memory loss.

  1. Limit Alcohol Intake

Compulsive or binge drinking can lead to severe brain health problems. Heavy alcohol consumption changes the brain’s chemistry almost immediately, with slurred speech, decreasing coordination, slow reflexes and lowered inhibitions.

Over time, the chemical changes add up and cause permanent brain damage leading to stroke, poor blood flow to the brain, decreased brain volume, memory problems and mental health issues.

  1. Eat Brain-Healthy Foods

Studies have shown following the Mediterranean diet correlates with a lowered risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s. This way of eating focuses on whole foods, lean meats, healthy fats and plenty of seafood. Healthy fats are a key ingredient for brain health, improving cellular function and keeping it younger for longer. Extra-virgin olive oil, walnuts and fatty fish are just a few great choices.

Foods rich in antioxidants help fight inflammation and improve brain health. Some powerhouse options include blueberries, pumpkin seeds, broccoli and dark chocolate.

  1. Learn Something New

When learning a new skill or improving an old one, your brain creates new connections between cells. These pathways make it difficult for brain disease to work its way in. Engaging your brain and stimulating it builds “muscles” like weight training for our bodies.

Doing a daily crossword, playing a strategy game and reading are easy ways to get your brain working. Stimulating conversations is another good one. Also, you could pick up a new hobby like cooking, gardening or rock climbing. If you have the resources, learning a new language is highly beneficial.

  1. Make Time for Friends and Family

Spending time with a close circle of friends and family can help combat depression, which is known to impact the way your brain functions. Also, socializing stimulates blood flow to different areas of the brain. Chatting with friends could keep your mind young and strong.

Simply talking to and seeing a loved one can help improve your mental and brain health. However, if you want to get the largest benefit, combine socialization with an activity to enhance your brain’s strength. To meet new people, you could join a club or organization that matches your interests or spend some time volunteering.

  1. Manage Mental Health

Your mental health can affect your daily life and your long-term brain health. Everyone deals with stress from time to time, but chronic stress leads to inflammation that can cause permanent brain damage. Combat this by seeing a doctor or therapist in combination with meditation, journaling, yoga and slow outdoor walks.

Depression and anxiety literally change the size of parts of your brain. Depression alone causes the hippocampus to get smaller, which reduces your ability to remember things clearly. Prolonged untreated depression is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s. Depression and anxiety together increase the size of the amygdala, which is responsible for your fight or flight response and emotions, making you more likely to experience panic attacks and other panic disorders.

2023 2023 Toyota Sienna marks the model’s first quarter-century of success and celebrates with a limited-availability 25th Anniversary Edition via 360 MAGAZINE

2023 Toyota Sienna

2023 Toyota Sienna marks the model’s first quarter-century of success and celebrates with a limited-availability 25th Anniversary Edition. Based on the sport-infused XSE grade, the special model gains additional luxury cabin features from the Limited grade and adds exclusive exterior and interior trim. Toyota will build just 2,525 of these models for the U.S., making this a “gotta have it” minivan.

Toyota has sold more than 2.2 million Sienna models since its debut in 1997. The fourth-generation Sienna debuted for the 2021 model year, offering hybrid power exclusively and giving customers the benefit of Toyota’s 20+ years of global hybrid leadership and well documented quality, durability and reliability. The 2023 Sienna lays down impressive numbers. Its Toyota Hybrid System II delivers 245 total system horsepower and earns the vehicle an EPA-estimated 36 combined MPG fuel economy (front-wheel drive).

The Hybrid-exclusive strategy has been a winner for Sienna, which was the top-selling minivan in America for 2021, capturing 35% of the segment. The new-generation Sienna offers the choice in front-wheel drive or Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, which employs a separate rear electric motor rather than a heavy AWD transfer case and space-robbing driveshaft to the rear wheels. As a result, EPA-estimated combined fuel economy is 35 MPG, nearly matching the 36 combined MPG for front wheel drive.

Happy Silver Anniversary

The ultra-sporty XSE model on which the 25th Anniversary Edition amps up the sporty factor with available dark 20-in. split-5-spoke wheels, bolder looking front and rear bumpers, black-painted caps and a sport-tuned suspension that are unique to the XSE. The Sienna 25th Anniversary Edition is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and includes the XSE Plus Package, which equips the Sienna 25th Anniversary Edition with roof rails, Premium Audio with JBL speakers and navigation, wireless charging and a 1500-watt converter.

Appropriately for the occasion, the Sienna  25th Anniversary Edition is available in Celestial Silver, with Wind Chill Pearl as a second color choice. Special black badging and exterior trim, including mirrors caps and shark fin antenna, accents the two available exterior colors.

From there, this celebration model adds a slew of features from the Limited grade, including the exterior mirrors with memory, auto-dimming, puddle lights, power-fold and reverse-tilt down function. Inside, the Limited also donates black leather-trimmed seating with silver-colored stitching, including heated and ventilated front seats with memory. The Limited’s memory steering column and second-row seats with ottomans enhance onboard comfort, and illuminated door sills greet front occupants. Special “25th Anniversary” floormats treat the feet, and an exclusive black key fob cover with silver-colored stitching features a “25th Anniversary” badge.

Sienna’s Journey

As minivans entered the market and gained popularity in the eighties and nineties, Toyota first imported its rear-drive Van and then the more market-suitable Previa. Meanwhile, Toyota was preparing a much more focused entry, and it arrived for 1998: the Sienna.

The Sienna proved to be right on target for the market, and through each design generation has evolved to a state of family vehicle perfection. Here’s a look at how it got there.

First-Generation: 1998-2003

Designed expressly for the U.S. market, the 1998 Sienna was assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. in Georgetown, Kentucky. Toyota called the first Sienna “The Camry of Minivans,” and for good reasons. Firstly, it was based on a larger version of the Camry’s front-wheel drive platform, which ensured an excellent balance of handling agility and ride comfort. Also, the Sienna was designed to give buyers the same combination of quality, user-friendly operation and value that had made the Camry so popular.

The first Sienna was 193.5 inches long on a 114-inch wheelbase, making it easy to maneuver and park. The powertrain paired a 3.0-liter, 194-horsepower V6 with a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The 1998-2003 Sienna had an EPA-estimated 17 city MPG / 23 highway MPG / 19 combined MPG fuel economy ratings.

The Sienna offered the choice of 7- or 8-seat configurations and provided renowned Toyota value in CE, LE and XLE grades. A driver’s side sliding rear door was standard on LE and XLE and optional for CE, and the XLE offered optional leather-trimmed seats.

Toyota engineered the first Sienna with the safety that family van buyers sought. Anti-lock brakes were standard, and Sienna was one of the few vans at the time to offer available front seat-mounted side torso airbags and Vehicle Stability Control. The first Sienna achieved the highest rating (“Good”) in all six IIHS frontal crash tests.

Second-Generation: 2004-2010

Customers loved the first-gen Sienna so much, they wanted more … more room, more versatility, more power and more safety. The second-gen Sienna for 2004 delivered on all counts. The chief engineer for the new model, Yuji Yokoya, and his family drove a first-gen Sienna throughout North America and met with minivan owners to gain a deeper understanding of how owners used these vehicles in daily life. Influenced by that input, the second-gen Sienna introduced for 2004 grew significantly to offer more room and versatility. Wheelbase and length both increased by five inches, and the new Sienna was also four inches wider and 1.6 inches higher than the first-generation model.

The second-gen Sienna debuted an all-wheel drive option, and the Sienna would remain the only minivan to offer AWD for many years. All models gained a 3.3-liter V6 with 230 horsepower, teamed to a new 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings increased to 17/25/20 EPA-estimated MPG for the front-wheel drive model.

Seating and cargo room increased all around. Notably, as minivans were frequently used for trips to warehouse stores, the Sienna could now easily carry 4×8-foot sheets of plywood. The second-gen Sienna debuted a luxurious new Limited trim. And, recognizing the value of keeping passengers entertained, Toyota offered an optional rear-seat DVD entertainment system with two 110V outlets.

In the safety category, side curtain airbags, optional on certain 2004-2005 trims, became standard on all for 2006. Vehicle Stability Control was made standard for all models in 2008. Continuous evolution brought new features such as Bluetooth wireless tech for hands-free phone use and music streaming, a power-folding third row, rear view camera, rear parking sensors and navigation. For 2007, the Sienna received a 266-horsepower 3.5-liter V6.

Third Generation: 2011-2019

The third-generation Sienna introduced for 2011 ushered in a bolder design, along with a growing roster of luxury and tech features. The design emerged from Toyota’s CALTY studios, with engineering handled by Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as in Japan. Sized the same as the second-gen Sienna, the new model added versatility.

A new 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine became standard but was discontinued after two years. The 3.5-liter V6 continued and was paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. For 2018, power jumped to 296 horsepower with the addition of Toyota’s D4-S direct fuel injection, and an eight-speed automatic replaced the six-speed. EPA fuel economy estimates with this combination were 18 city / 24 highway / 20 combined.

Standard features included three-zone climate control, three power ports, power door locks and remote keyless entry. As a fun surprise, a new SE model grade added some sport sedan verve to the driving experience. Front styling was even bolder, with side skirting that visually lowered the vehicle and smoked taillights that made a distinctive statement. Specially tuned suspension, revised steering and 19-inch alloy wheels boosted agility and driving engagement. This was the minivan with attitude.

The third-gen Sienna brought a major advance in active safety for 2015 with optional Pre-Collision System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) was made standard for all model grades in 2018. TSS-P included Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beams.

Additional safety features included a rear-view camera with 180-degree view, driver’s knee airbag and Toyota Safety Connect. On the luxury and user tech side, the Smart Key System with Push-Button Start added new convenience, and the available second-row sliding Lounge Seating could slide up to 23 inches rearward to open up enormous legroom.

The Sienna’s Entune 3.0 multimedia system included a live-traffic map, while the higher grades also featured Wi-Fi connectivity for up to five devices. An available 11.6-inch dual-view rear seat entertainment system was a real passenger pleaser.

Fourth Generation: 2020-

Toyota reimagined the fourth-generation Sienna to support a wider array of life stages and activities than the typical minivan. That included answering the call for more luxury, multimedia and outdoors-amenable features.

Assembled in the U.S., the fourth-generation Sienna was designed by the combined effort of CALTY’s Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, studios. It is built around an all-new minivan structure based on Toyota’s versatile TNGA-K Platform architecture, and the evocative design was influenced by the bold and robust character of SUVs.

The Sienna delivers a confident, agile driving experience with exemplary ride comfort, thanks in large part to the TNGA-K Platform combined with a trailing-arm multi-link rear suspension. The sporty XSE and lavish Platinum grades fill their wheel wells with standard 20-inch aluminum clad wheels with P235/50R20 tires for FWD. (All-Wheel Drive versions have 18-inch wheels.)

The 2023 Sienna line includes LE, XLE, sporty XSE, outdoors-oriented Woodland Edition, luxurious Limited and ultra-plush Platinum trims. The Woodland Edition introduced for 2022 combines adventure-inspired rugged styling, a standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive System and increased ground clearance to take family fun further afield.

The 2023 Sienna offers many available premium features across the model line (depending on model grade), such as kick-open and closed sliding side doors and rear gate, four-zone climate control system, heated second-row Super-Long Slide captain’s chairs with ottomans, power tilt and telescoping steering column with heated steering wheel, 10-in. color head-up display and 12-speaker JBL® Premium Audio system.

All 2023 Sienna models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0), a comprehensive active safety system that includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist

The Sienna LE and some XLE models come equipped in 8-seat configurations with a stowable middle seat. The Super-Long Slide second-row captain’s chairs in some 7-seat models slide 25 inches, providing ample legroom and flexibility to maximize comfort, especially when used with the available ottoman feature. (Standard for 25th Anniversary Edition, Limited and Platinum and available for certain others.)

Cutting-edge visibility tech and the available Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan provides a live, 360-degree view to help the driver see potential obstacles.

The 2023 Sienna offers a smorgasbord of connectivity and entertainment, with versatile Toyota Audio systems providing something for everyone. The base Toyota Audio system in the LE grade is jam-packed with features, including a 9-in. touchscreen, six speakers, Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay® and Amazon Alexa compatibility, seven USB media ports, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology, SiriusXM® with 3-month Platinum Plan trial subscription and Safety Connect® with 1-year trial and Wi-Fi Connect with up to 3 GB within a one-month trial.

And, did we mention an up to EPA-estimated 36 combined MPG rating and available Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. That is the anatomy of a minivan innovator and leader.
