Fear not the carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are a type of macronutrient found in many foods and beverages. They are an important source of energy to the body and make up a major part of the diet of many people around the world.

Types of carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are one of the main nutrients in our diet. They help provide energy to the body and three main types of carbohydrates can be found in foods: sugars, starches and fiber. Carbohydrates are also essential for digestive processes and can help prevent stomach or intestinal problems, such as constipation. In addition, phytonutrients, chemical components of some carbohydrates, have cardioprotective effects.

Carbohydrates are divided into three main types: sugars, starches and fiber. Sugars or simple carbohydrates are found naturally in nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, milk and honey, while starches or complex carbohydrates are found in foods such as bread, rice and potatoes. The best way to obtain carbohydrates is through whole grains, dairy products, fruits and vegetables.

Nutrient-rich foods that contain one or more types of carbohydrates include fruits, vegetables, dairy products and whole grains. It is recommended to get most of your carbohydrates from these sources rather than refined grains. The recommended daily amount depends on body weight and level of physical activity. Generally, it is recommended to consume between 225-325 grams per day for healthy adults.

The healthiest source of carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates are those that contain starch and fiber, and are generally considered a healthier source of carbohydrates compared to simple carbohydrates. Some of the best sources of complex carbohydrates include:

  • Whole grains: Whole grains, such as brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat, barley, oats and rye, are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates. These grains are rich in fiber, protein and essential nutrients.
  • Orzo: this is a type of pasta made from durum wheat flour and water. Therefore, orzo is a complex carbohydrate, as it is made from whole wheat grains and contains both fiber and starch. To learn a little more about this food you can follow the following link: https://riceselect.com/product/orzo
  • Legumes: Legumes, such as beans, chickpeas, lentils and peas, are a good source of complex carbohydrates, as well as protein, fiber and essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Vegetables: Many vegetables, such as squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots and peas, are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates and fiber, as well as essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Fruits: Some fruits, such as apples, bananas, oranges, pears and strawberries, are rich in complex carbohydrates and also contain essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds and chia seeds, are a good source of complex carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats and fiber.

In general, it is important to include a variety of complex carbohydrate sources in your diet for optimal nutrition.

Some tips to keep in mind when eating carbohydrates

  • Choose complex carbohydrates: Complex carbohydrates, such as those found in vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains, are a better choice than simple carbohydrates, such as those found in processed and refined foods. Complex carbohydrates provide long-lasting energy and are more nutritious.
  • Control portions: Be sure to eat carbohydrates in appropriate portions. Eating too many carbohydrates, even complex carbohydrates, can lead to weight gain and other health problems.
  • Combine carbohydrates with protein and healthy fats: Combining carbohydrates with protein and healthy fats can help stabilize blood sugar levels and maintain satiety longer.
  • Avoid processed carbohydrates: Avoid processed carbohydrates such as sugary foods, fried foods and refined foods. These foods can be high in calories and low in nutrients.
  • Choose fruits and vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of healthy carbohydrates, as well as vitamins, minerals and fiber. Be sure to include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Consider the time of day: Eating complex carbohydrates at breakfast or lunch can provide energy for the entire day, while eating simple carbohydrates at dinner can cause sleep problems.
  • Listen to your body: Everyone is different, so listen to your body. If you notice that certain carbohydrates make you feel bloated, tired or lack energy, you may want to cut back or eliminate them from your diet altogether.

With this basic knowledge of the body’s interaction with carbohydrates, we demystify the misinformation about their consumption and make us aware of their importance in human nutrition.

Paella: Spain’s Legacy to the World

Paella is a traditional dish of Spanish cuisine, originally from the autonomous community of Valencia, although it is very popular throughout Spain and in many other countries around the world. Paella is rice cooked with a variety of ingredients, which may include seafood, chicken, rabbit, vegetables, and spices such as saffron.

Famous all over the world

Paella is cooked in a shallow, flat iron skillet, known as a paellera or paella pan, and cooked over direct heat. The rice is cooked with broth and seasoned with garlic, tomato and other spices according to the recipe. Once the rice is cooked, it is served directly in the paella pan and is usually garnished with lemon and parsley sprigs. Paella is a very versatile dish and can be adapted to personal tastes and preferences.

If you want to know a little more about rice in general, its characteristics and how to prepare a perfect white rice you can click on the following link: https://carolinarice.com/products/white-rice/.

Types of paella

There are many types of paella that can be found in Spain and around the world, and the choice of ingredients can vary according to region, season and personal tastes. Some of the most popular types of paella include:

  • Paella valenciana: The original paella, which includes rabbit, chicken and green beans.
  • Paella de mariscos: A paella that includes a variety of seafood.
  • Paella Mixta: A combination of all the ingredients mentioned above.
  • Vegetable Paella: A vegetarian paella that includes vegetables such as peppers, peas and green beans.
  • Paella negra: A paella made with black rice dyed with squid ink and including seafood.
  • Paella de montaña: A paella that includes game meat, such as venison or wild boar, and mushrooms.

These are just a few examples, and there are many regional and personal variations of paella.

Some necessary preparations

Preparing a good paella requires some special techniques and skills to ensure that the dish is cooked properly and tastes authentic.

Important techniques

  • Heating the paella pan: It is advisable to preheat the paella pan over medium-low heat to obtain a good temperature and prevent the ingredients from burning or sticking.
  • Sauté the ingredients: Ingredients such as onion, garlic, tomato and meats should be sautéed in olive oil before adding the rice. This helps to flavor and create a base for the dish.
  • Add ingredients in the correct order: It is important to add ingredients in the correct order, starting with those that take the longest to cook, such as meat, and ending with those that cook the fastest, such as seafood.
  • Cook rice properly: It is important to use the right type of rice (such as Bomba rice) and cook it with broth and spices for flavor. The amount of liquid should be adequate so that the rice is well cooked and is neither too dry nor too wet.
  • Let the paella rest: After cooking the paella, it is recommended to let it rest for a few minutes so that the rice absorbs the flavors and the remaining liquids.

Preparing the paella pan

Before using a paella pan for the first time, it is important to prepare it properly to ensure that it is ready for use and to prolong its life. The following are the steps to follow to prepare a paella pan before use:

  1. Wash the paella pan: Wash the paella pan thoroughly with soap and water, making sure to remove any residue or impurities that may have been left over from manufacturing or storage.
  2. Dry the paella pan: Dry the paella pan with a clean cloth and make sure it is completely dry before use.
  3. Coat with oil: Heat the paella pan over medium heat and coat the surface with olive oil or vegetable oil. Be sure to coat all areas of the pan and allow the oil to heat until it begins to smoke.
  4. Cook the paella pan: Cook the paella pan for about 10-15 minutes over medium-high heat to allow the oil to penetrate the surface and create a natural non-stick coating.
  5. Allow to cool: Remove the paella pan from the heat and allow it to cool completely before cleaning and storing it again.

By following these steps, your paella pan will be ready to use and will have a natural non-stick surface that will help prevent ingredients from sticking and make it easier to clean after use. It is important to repeat this process from time to time, especially if the paella pan has not been used for a long time.

Finally, all that remains is to enjoy this legacy of Spain, a worthy reminder of the diversity and richness of this culture for the whole world.

The upbeat track, which was created by Lloyiso along with Earwulf and Grammy-award-winning producers Mr. Hudson (John Legend, Janelle Monae, Jay-Z) and Stargate (Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith), fuses shimmering keys with a swooning beat and head-nodding claps. He hits a towering high-register on the bridge before his vocals ring out on the refrain, “I’m gonna fly, gonna reach the sky, take up all the space and time. I just wanna run.

It lands in the wake of the fan favorites “Let Me Love You Now” and “What Would I Say,” which have already racked up millions of streams and counting. Everything just paves the way for his anxiously awaited body of work Seasons in March. Get ready to feel his voice, artistry, and spirit!

His prior single “Speak” has amassed over 8 million streams. Right out of the gate, OkayAfrica touted it as one of “The 20 Best South African Songs of 2022 So Far, and hailed it as “an emotive, piano-laden ballad that, like most of his songs, highlights his soothing voice. Additionally, last year he made his international debut with the single “Seasons. Right out of the gate, it tallied 22 million streams and garnered a ton of buzz. Off of the success of both tracks, Lloyiso was nominated for the “Songwriter of the year | Most Promising Artiste” award at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2022.

It’s the kind of voice that shines in any arena—whether in front of a laptop camera or under the lights of a festival stage. It’s the kind of voice that makes you stop what you’re doing and sing along. At 16-years-old, he appeared on South African Idol and placed fifth in the competition. Following “three weeks at university, he left school and focused on music inspired by the likes of Sam Smith and Travis Scott. He performed anywhere possible, singing in exchange for dinner at local pubs. He even recorded in English and ten different African languages. Taking over social media, Lloyiso amplified his voice globally by posting covers on Facebook before embracing YouTube. He gained the endorsement of everyone from Kygo to Tyga and gradually amassed an enthusiastic audience. Nailing viral renditions of Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi, and more, he launched his TikTok during 2020, generating tens of millions of views and attracting the attention of labels worldwide. Finding his home, he notably made history as “the first South African artist signed to Republic Records.” In 2023, he will connect like never before with new music and much more to come this year.

Myrne and Manila Killa collaborate on Conflicted single via 360 MAGAZINE.

Myrne – Conflicted

Singaporean producer MYRNE aims to keep dancefloors fresh in 2023, after a revitalised past year, with “Conflicted,” his new single and latest collaboration with Filipino-American producer Manila Killa. Listen HERE via Astralwerks. The track marks the three-year anniversary of their collaborative EP, Fluorescence.

With this new track, MYRNE marks a new phrase in his career with a proclamation: “2023 is the year I make music specifically for dancing.”

In 2022 MYRNE released his single “What Can I Do”, where the prolific dance music producer gave fans a peek into his new outlook as a full-fledged artist, one who battled uncertainty and listlessness after navigating his way in the world as Southeast Asia’s most exciting newcomer in EDM. He then followed up with his EP Circles.

“Conflicted” shows him refining his style as he keeps his finger on the pulse. After all, the world of dance music has changed since he first broke out into the scene in 2017.

“It’s one of the first times I actually thought of making music for the club, while in the club,” MYRNE says on “Conflicted.” “I was at a Soap party in Seoul and they just had the best atmosphere, lights, people and all that.” In the middle of the dancefloor, inspiration struck MYRNE, and he recorded a voice note while the ideas were still fresh.

The chemistry between the duo of MYRNE and Manila Killa, remains the same as it did when they first collaborated. “It took less than three takes between us to get it right,” MYRNE says. The duo spent time hanging out in Los Angeles, but their collaborative process took place entirely online. “I added a really simple, dark, brooding drum loop and sent it off to Manila Killa, and he flipped the entire song on its head. He turned it into something really energetic!”

“While MYRNE lives on the other side of the world, the way we work is just through sending each other our projects. I was inspired by my nights out in the Philippines, reconnecting with old friends, and I wanted to express that energy in “Conflicted,” Manila Killa says. “We’re both on the same wavelength when it comes to our taste and direction in music so it was pretty easy to go back and forth to finish the track over the few weeks.”

Where that leaves MYRNE is a long road ahead that shines brighter than ever. When he wrote “Conflicted,” he kept it simple: “I just imagined myself back at that one night in Seoul, having too good of a time.” That attitude is now a mantra as he steps forward: to him, the dance floor is a place of exhilaration and harmony. He intends to keep it that way.

How to get a car on finance with bad credit

If you’ve been declined car finance, you may be thinking it’s the end of the road. Whilst for many applicants, this can mean that you may not get approval, it can be worth having hope and putting yourself in a better financial position before you start to apply again. There are factors that you can consider helping increase your credit score, build a credit score, and increase the likelihood of getting a car on finance. However, firstly, it can be a good idea to get more of an insight into how car finance is affected by credit scores. The guide below looks to do exactly that. Let’s take a look at how your previous credit affects approvals and also the top 5 ways in which you can increase your chances of getting a car when you have poor credit

How does credit history affect car finance?

Many people with bad credit don’t actually know how their low credit score affects car finance approvals. When you apply for car finance, a lender wants to know the likelihood of you being trusted to pay back your loan on time and in full. They can do this by referring to your previous borrowing history. If your history shows high levels of debt or missed or late repayments, you are more likely to default on any future loans too. This increases the risk to the lender, and they may decline you. Alternatively, some lenders can approve you for finance but can set a higher interest rate to help secure the deal. Having a better credit score and a long history of being able to handle your credit or finance responsibly will not only get you easier acceptances, but it will also increase your credit score and get you a better car finance rate.

5 ways to increase the chances of getting a car with a poor credit score.

Whilst car finance will never be guaranteed and you will need to meet the lenders criteria before you can get approved, there are a few factors you can consider preparing your application.

  1. Check your credit report.

You’d be surprised how many car finance applicants don’t know what their current credit score is and what is listed on their report. It can be a good idea to get a free credit report from a trusted credit referencing agency and take some time to see what’s recorded on there. You should make sure all your information is accurate and up to date as having misinformation on your credit report can be negatively affecting your score. It’s also important that the information you supply on your application matches your credit report as lenders use it to confirm your details and reduce the risk of fraudulent applications.

  1. Reduce any existing debt.

One of the factors that can affect your car finance application and also your credit score is how much debt you currently owe. High levels of existing debt negatively impact your score and you should try to reduce any debt before taking out car finance. You should try to only use around 50% of any available credit limits and if you really want to make an impact on your credit score, try to keep it under 30%. From a lenders point of view, when you have lots of debt already and aren’t clearing it, they may think you can’t handle taking on any more credit. By taking control of your finances and reducing your debts it can make your finance more manageable and could increase your monthly affordability.

  1. Build a credit history.

It’s a common misconception that having no previous credit history is a good thing. However, lenders can’t see how you handle credit without any evidence. It can be hard to get a car on finance but without a credit check being performed but most lenders use a soft search that won’t affect your score. You can start to build a small credit history by using a credit building card to make small purchases on and paying them off on time and in full each month. Alternatively, something as small as getting a mobile phone contract in your name and setting up a direct debit to meet the repayment each month can build a credit history.

  1. Make payments on time.

If you currently have finance or credit, it’s important that you focus on these repayments first before you look to open new credit accounts. The easiest way to increase your credit score is by keeping on top of repayments and showing evidence that you can meet deadlines. It can be a good idea to set up direct debits for any payments you need to make so they are never missed. If you are struggling with your current repayment schedule, you should never miss the payment and instead speak with your lender who provided the loan and see how they can help.

  1. Consider hire purchase.

If you’re struggling to get a car on finance, you may be applying or the wrong kind of agreement. Hire purchase deals are never guaranteed but they could be more accessible for bad credit applicants. This is because hire purchase is a form of secured loan and means the lender owns the car throughout the agreement. If you fail to stay up to date with your repayments, the lender has the right to take the car off you so it lessens the risk, and they can use the car as collateral. This shouldn’t be taken lightly though and missed payments or having the car repossessed can lead to much more serious financial implications and massively affect your ability to borrow money in the future.

What are the best tips for making Mexican food?

Mexican cuisine

Mexican cuisine encompasses a wide variety of recipes from the different regions of Mexico. This type of food commonly uses beans, rice, tomatoes, chilis and tortillas in many dishes. Proteins, such as beef, chicken and seafood, are also common ingredients in Mexican recipes. Mexican food is generally flavorful and well-seasoned. When preparing Mexican food, it is generally best to use fresh ingredients that are in season.

Mexico is a large country with many regions. Each of these has a distinct cuisine based on the ingredients that are available there. For this reason, Mexican food recipes generally taste better when fresh ingredients are used. This type of cuisine uses many vegetables, herbs and spices, which can usually be purchased at a farmer’s market or supermarket. Many large cities have Mexican markets that contain some of the more obscure ingredients that can be ordered in native dishes.

Typical dishes

Tortillas are often part of Mexican recipes. These can be made from corn or flour, and can be used to make dishes such as tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Tortillas can also be served in the same way that other cuisines serve bread with a meal. Homemade tortillas generally taste the best, but high-quality tortillas can also be purchased at a Mexican bakery or market.

Several authentic Mexican food dishes have a spicy flavor due to the use of chilis, such as jalapenos and habaneros. When preparing a dish that calls for hot peppers, care should be taken to avoid touching the face or eyes after handling. If a recipe is too hot for a person’s taste, the cook can cut off the top of a bell pepper and remove the seeds for a milder flavor. Chilis can also be roasted to enhance their flavors.

Many Mexican dishes are served with rice and beans. Refried beans made with lard are very popular, but whole black beans are also common in Mexican cooking. Beans and rice are staples of Mexican cuisine, but many Mexican food recipes also call for a type of protein. Chicken and beef are commonly used, and there are many recipes that call for seafood, such as shrimp or fish. When cooking Mexican food, the protein is often marinated for maximum flavor. If the proper ingredients are not available to make an authentic Mexican marinade, meat that is pre-seasoned and marinated can often be purchased at a Mexican butcher or grocery store.

Red rice

Red rice, also called Mexican rice or Mexican-style rice, is a typical dish of Mexican gastronomy.

Its preparation is very simple, similar to that of white rice, although in this case the rice is cooked with a broth made with tomato, garlic, onion and chicken broth. As with white rice, red rice is used as an accompaniment to other dishes, and is not usually eaten alone.
