With the introduction of the ‘Premier Series’ in 2003, Reebok sought to reconnect with its storied running heritage. The result: a series of no-frills performance running products featuring new and cutting-edge technologies that would help reinvigorate a stagnant running footwear market. Premier Road Plus arrived as part of the series that year, with new iterations introduced yearly leading up to the model’s final installment – the Premier Road Plus VI – in 2009. 

Reflecting on the end of a pivotal era in Reebok performance innovation, Premier Road Plus VI returns in 2023 featuring a textile-synthetic mixed-material upper, textile lining, TPU midfoot transition plate, two-piece rubber outsole, and DMX Foam cushioning, which (as described by a 2004 Reebok Running ‘Premier Series’ catalogue) “creates dynamic cushioning through air channels molded in foam to deliver a traditional ride in a longer lasting, more lively feeling system.”

Launched on February 1st, 2003, the Premier Series line of running shoes sought to reconnect Reebok with its storied running heritage. The running market at the time lacked any serious performance options and desperately craved a no frills, excellent product. Seeing this absence in the market as a perfect opportunity, Reebok created a design team comprising exclusively of runners to keep the end user front-of-mind in the design process and developed of a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as DMX Foam, DMX Shear and Play Dry to outfit the product. The brand’s intuition, product, and approach were perfect – so perfect that the line sold over 1 million pairs in its first year and earned a litany of awards for its excellence. 

The first few years of the Premier Series were characterized aesthetically by a focus on metallic detailing and functionality thanks to the implementation of DMX Foam, DMX Shear and PlayDry. DMX Foam was a soft, proprietary cushioning technology that granted immense comfort to the runner. On the other hand, DMX Shear reduced the stress of the heel strike by slowing down the heel on impact. PlayDry, an apparel technology used to wick moisture and help regulate body temperature, was used as a shoe liner that absorbed moisture as it was released during a run. These technologies provided runners both comfort and functionality so successfully that David Lacorazza, the lead designer of the Premier Running Series, would go on to win a 2006 Designer of the Year distinction for his work.

Although the Premier Series was phased out in 2012 to make room for shoes donning ZigTech, Flex, and toning technology, the line’s popularity was strong enough for it to sell through 600,000 pairs each year.

Multi JUNO-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Charlotte Cardin has released “Jim Carrey,” the fourth offering from her stellar sophomore album 99 Nights (out August 25 via Cult Nation/Atlantic Records). The playful, upbeat track, partially inspired by the acclaimed actor of its title, is a love letter to personal freedom as Charlotte repeats in the anthemic chorus, “Goodbye my worthless ego / Without you I’m finally free, oh.”

On the new track, Cardin says, “It’s a special one. I went into this rabbit hole of Jim Carrey interviews. He discusses ego in an interesting way. In his perspective, our need for acceptance holds us back from embracing who we really are. The track explores getting rid of your ego. You can decide what your destiny is if you take a risk and accept to be who you really are at the fullest. It’s a metaphor, but marrying Jim Carrey is a good way to start the inner work.”

Cardin carefully assembled what would become 99 Nights while on the road in 2021. After initial sessions in Montréal, she wrote and recorded in London, Los Angeles, and Toronto to “fuel a creative free flow.”

She shares, “We called it 99 Nights, because it was a big journey through all of these worlds I needed to explore in order to touch base with the most important things in my life. I realized I needed to get the fuck out of where I was. The 99 Nights are a symbol of one chapter closing and another beginning. It’s nostalgic because there’s an ending, but it’s very hopeful since I’m starting over. The first few months of the process traced a path for the sound, emotion, and stories I would be sharing, hence the title.”

Cardin released her debut full-length album Phoenix in 2021 to immense acclaim (and platinum certification in Canada) including a sweep of 2022 Juno Awards that included wins for Artist, Album, Pop Album and Single of the Year and a 2022 Polaris Music Prize nomination. The HiPhi Y was revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, joining as the third member of the HiPhi family, bringing the same blend of striking design, luxury and advanced technology. Orders for HiPhi Y will be available by the end of 2023.

HiPhi’s global expansion plans are unfolding rapidly, with the HiPhi X and the HiPhi Z now available to order in Germany and Norway, with the first vehicles already registered for road use, following inspection by TÜV SÜD. Customers will soon be able to experience the dual flagship models at Europe’s first HiPhi Hub showroom, located at Munich Airport. The run, which is nearly sold out, includes stops in Grand Rapids, Newark, Boston, Anaheim, Denver and more before wrapping up in Laval, QC at Place Bell on Sunday, September 3. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will celebrate a highly contemporary presence at this year’s Festival of Speed. Displayed on the Festival’s Laundry Green, adjacent to Goodwood House, a beautifully commissioned Phantom, Ghost, Cullinan, and Spectre will each provide a unique, exquisite expression of the marque’s peerless craftsmanship. The marque’s presence at this year’s event comes as the company celebrates 20 years of production at the Home of Rolls-Royce, at Goodwood.

For the first time ever, Rolls-Royce Spectre will be presented at this year’s Festival of Speed. Presented in two-tone Chartreuse and Black Diamond, this expression of the marque’s genre-defining motor car exudes cool modern luxury. To embolden the exterior and highlight Spectre’s dynamic presence and prowess, twenty-three-inch wheels are fitted to the motor car – the first time in almost one hundred years that the marque has equipped wheels of this stature and size to a two-door coupé. Chartreuse interior appointments echo the exterior hue, whilst Grace White and Peony Pink create a calming and serene aesthetic to the cabin.

For this year’s Festival of Speed Phantom commission, inspiration has come from the world of yachting, a popular pastime amongst Rolls-Royce’s illustrious clientele. A befitting exterior colour – Submariner Blue – was selected for this unique commission. QUEER EYE RETURNS HOME TO BRAVO WITH 20TH ANNIVERSARY MARATHON ON THURSDAY, JULY 13

Bravo celebrates the 20-year anniversary of its iconic Emmy Award-winning series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” with a supersized marathon from 6 AM – 9 PM ET/PT on Thursday, July 13. The all-day event will feature fan-favorite episodes from the beginning and culminate with its 10-year reunion special. “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” aired on Bravo from 2003-2007 and followed the original “Fab Five” – Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley, and Jai Rodriguez – as they performed a “make-better” on someone by upgrading their wardrobe, renovating their home, and offering lifestyle advice.

Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” pushed boundaries for diversity and representation in reality television, and its legacy left a lasting impression on the media landscape. Throughout its run, the series received numerous accolades including an Emmy Award and two GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Reality Program.
