MuttNation Foundation Will Attend CMA Fest

MuttNation Foundation, founded by Miranda Lambert and her mother, Bev Lambert, will have a paw-stomping, tail-wagging presence at next week’s CMA Fest. After leading the Mutt March, featuring over 1,000 dog-loving participants and their pets, parading from Nissan Stadium to Walk of Fame Park, Miranda’s MuttNation will bring some of the most adorable, adoptable pups on the planet to the floor of Xfinity Fan Fair X at Music City Center.

“Our goal is to raise awareness for shelter pets across the country while we find as many loving homes as possible for the incredible pups from Nashville Humane. So, if you’ve got a heartbeat, be prepared to fall in love the minute you see them,” said Miranda, the proud owner of eight rescue dogs.

From Thursday through Sunday, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Xfinity Fan Fair X, Nashville Humane Association will have a steady supply of playful pups looking for their new forever families. And while there’s no shortage of amazing performances during CMA Fest – including Miranda’s Nissan Stadium show on Saturday night – few things will be as entertaining as when the adoptable dogs all strut out to the MuttNation exhibit on the Music City Center floor, each day at noon.

“Nashville Humane is thrilled to partner with MuttNation again and can’t wait to join forces with the country fans to find more loving homes for our dogs,” said NHA’s Laura Chavarria, Executive Director. Here is a preview of some of your new best friends that will be available for adoption.

The MuttNation March and Adoption Drive are sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States that also serves as a one-stop shop for all things pet. Tractor Supply is passionate about animals and supporting organizations like MuttNation Foundation that put deserving pets in loving homes.

2019 also marks the 10th Anniversary of MuttNation Foundation, which has grown from a mother-daughter venture to become a leading voice for animal advocacy. Since its inception, Miranda, Bev, and the MuttNation team have stepped up in times of natural disaster, providing millions of dollars to help rescue thousands of animals as well as supporting hundreds of shelters across the country. To help celebrate MuttNation’s 10th Anniversary, a one-of-a-kind Epiphone guitar signed by Miranda will be raffled off to benefit MuttNation’s mission. Enter the drawing here:

Mexico City's Ignacia Guest House, 360 MAGAZINE

Ignacia Guest House Has New Additions

Consistently ranked among the world’s top places to visit, Mexico City is a global capital welcoming more than 12.5 million visitors each year with  its renowned cuisine, vibrant culture, rich history, unique neighborhoods and modern-day travel offerings. A sprawling metropolis bursting with a vibrant personality  blending  old and new, there are over a dozen distinct neighborhoods or “colonias” each with their own character and charm.

An essential part of the city’s cultural and gastronomic life, the adjacent Roma and Condesa neighborhoods are home to Mexico City’s trendy creative class. The area overflows with diverse dining options and alluring nightlife possibilities, as well as varying architectural styles and bold design. A century ago, when La Romita was a wealthy town of grand mansions, no one would have guessed that by the turn of the millennium, it would home to Mexico City’s  hipsters. These days, its neoclassic, beaux arts and art nouveau-style buildings, squares and tree-lined boulevards abound with restaurants, galleries, bars, foodies, artists, eclectic bed and breakfasts and more. In September 2017 an earthquake impacted Roma and Condesa, Mexico City’s most beloved colonias. After, local artists, architects, designers, chefs and residents have worked to restore and revitalize the area, making them more compelling destinations than ever before.

With the recent buzz from this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Director, Alfonso Cuaron’s love story to his hometown of Colonia Roma hit center stage in the internationally acclaimed movie, Roma. Located just a few blocks from the house where Roma was filmed, Ignacia Guest House is an exclusive bed and breakfast with five suites blending history, Mexican artisan tradition and contemporary design. Opening its doors in February 2017, the name is derived from the housekeeper who looked after this 1913 casona for over 70 years, Ignacia.

To celebrate the recent two-year anniversary of its opening, Ignacia Guest House collaborated with prominent illustrator Hilda Palafox, known as “Poni” to design the guest house’s commemorative anniversary tote bags. Born and raised in Mexico City, Poni is a world-renowned designer, illustrator and muralist whose creative work includes murals, illustrations, drawings and ceramics. She studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts and has illustrated for magazines, singers and several national and international brands. Passionate about the female form, Poni uses illustrations and ceramic works to create a variety of womanly characters in her own unique style. Despite being commissioned for murals by Amnesty International, her most famous work is a doodle which pays homage to Mexican activist and feminist Elvia Carrillo Puerto which was featured on Google’s search homepage in 2017. These beautiful signature tote bags designed exclusively for Ignacia Guest House by Poni can be purchased for $25USD at the front desk. In other news, Ignacia Guest House now offers luxurious robes for all guests to adorn during their stay and a new summer mezcal cocktail to be enjoyed during their daily complimentary cocktail hour in the garden.

Architecture and Design

Ignacia Guest House has been internationally acclaimed for its interior design, architecture and restoration. Led by Fermin Espinosa and Gerardo Salinas of Mexico City-based Factor Eficiencia, with the design firm Estudio de Interiorismo A-G, Ignacia Guest House was developed based on a concept from the design and communications firm, Fuckin’Fitz & Co. The concept reflected the personality and background of Ignacia, from the chromatic color palette and gardens inspired by the forests of Guerrero (Ignacia’s home state) to the privacy of each space. The historic building joins public spaces, including the lobby, reception, library, dining room, and kitchen, directly to the master suite, La Habitación Negra. In a completely new building, the other four suites, La Azul, La Verde, La Rosa and La Amarilla, are arranged one on top of the other on the central patio with individual balconies or terraces. Each has a unique color scheme, and rooms have their own specific ambience that works in harmony with the complex. The interior furniture blends traditional, past and contemporary, including designs by Eileen Grey, Eero Saarinen, Serge Mouille, Sean Dix, and James Tan. The spaces complement each other with examples of contemporary design by A-G, Bo Concept, PECA, and Jonathan Adler. All common spaces boast works from master artisan potter José Cervantes of San Agustín Oapan, Guerrero.

History

Ignacia was born around 1914 in Guerrero and arrived in Mexico City in the late 1920s to work in the estate house. She first helped with the cleaning, then began caring for the children, eventually becoming the head housekeeper until the year 2000, at which time she moved with the family that she worked for so many years to an apartment in the south part of the city. For 70 years, she dedicated her devotion to the house, and became part of it. Her imprint is still alive in the building; as a character of Pita Amor, Ignacia enjoyed the house as her own and in the end, practically it was – she knew every last corner and administered to it with rigorous discipline. She planted two orange trees in the garden that she crossed thousands of times.

Cuisine

The cooks at Ignacia Guest House hit the pantry bright and early to prepare each day’s breakfast selection and source all ingredients at traditional neighborhood markets. They prepare everything—salsas, condiments—from scratch. Artisanal breads, delicious fruits and juices one can only find in Mexico complement cooked-to-order entrees ranging from seasoned eggs, regional charcuteries, tamales and chilaquiles to lesser-discovered tastes guests will remember long after their travel ends. The cooks offer vegetarian and vegan options for all their breakfast dishes and can accommodate guest’s dietary restrictions. Guests can enjoy the complimentary cocktail hour at Ignacia’s garden, under the two orange trees, between 5pm and 7pm daily. Each day, the chef prepares a different cocktail for guests, made with mezcal from Oaxaca, gin, tequila or other liquors. Ignacia’s signature cocktail is made with grapefruit, sparkling water, mezcal and a hint of Ancho Reyes, a liquor made from the ancho chile. The decoration of the glass has a special touch – chefs add worm salt frosting on one side of the glass along with fresh grapefruit. Celebrating the onset of summer, their newest drink is a mango and mezcal cocktail made with mango and pomelo juices, Eureka lemon, mezcal, Ancho Reyes liquor, mint and rosemary syrup, ginger ale and ice.

Sustainability

Ignacia Guest House is committed to preserving our environment. Solar panels produce most of the electrical energy consumed on property, preventing 3.8 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year (the equivalent of planting 85 trees per year). The solar panels reduce fossil fuel consumption up to 60% in bathrooms and the kitchen. The ingredients used to prepare food and beverages (fruits, vegetables, legumes, coffee, eggs, dairy, tortillas, bread) come from small local producers, which guarantees their freshness and quality, as well as fair trade (supporting the local community). In-suite toiletries are provided by Loredana, a Mexican company that specializes in natural, organic products free of parabens, sulfates and EDTA, which are all environmentally friendly and made free of animal cruelty. Water bottles are provided courtesy of Casa del Agua, a Mexican company that triple-filters water using evaporation and condensation, which provides the highest purification standard (100%) in the market. Additionally, water is harmonized with intention, through a process of flow forms, light and, music. Only glass bottles are used, so the property does not contribute to plastic waste. The cleaning products used are sourced from Corpo Citrik, a Mexican company that manufactures all its products with biodegradable citric extracts, without chemicals, abrasives or irritants, Kosher certified and as low foam to promote saving water saving.

One of the biggest trends in travel right now is boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts that feel like a home-away-from-home. Globetrotters are seeking personalized service that go beyond the usual hotel concierge and find that properties with ten rooms or fewer allow them to really slip into local life with total tranquility and ease. With its unique offering of just five suites, Ignacia Guest House’s guests experience a stay in a chic design-led accommodation that is unlike any other. Whether traveling for pleasure or business, Ignacia Guest House is the perfect basecamp to explore the city. All guests receive exceptional individualized attention from the staff, complimentary Wi-Fi, daily breakfast, daily cocktail hour in the garden from 5pm – 7pm and more amenities. Nightly rates for the suites in double occupancy are: Master Suite Negra ($442.10USD), Standard Suites Amarilla, Verde and Azul ($387.94USD) and Junior Suite Rosa ($318.91USD). 5 Tips to Conquer Your First Day at the Gym

All of us want that perfectly-shaped body, but attaining it is a very difficult task. Most people hit the gym only to get demotivated by the sheer amount of work they have to put in. Many quit after the first day!

So, here are some tips to help people conquer their first day at the gym.

Start with Light Workouts

Most people make the mistake of starting with a heavy workout regime right away, without caring for the implications that it may have on their bodies. Beginners often start with heavy exercises which can cause intense muscle pain and even injuries.

The body needs time to get used to the change in its usual routine. Starting with light warm ups will loosen the stiff muscles and help the body become adjusted to the sudden changes. Stretching and light cardio exercises will ease the transition into a healthy lifestyle.

Get Comfortable Workout Clothes

Beginners often make the mistake of choosing tight-fitting gym clothes, which can aggravate muscle pain and also cause injuries. To start a workout routine, it is important to choose the right gym clothes so that the person can exercise properly.

For men, it would be best to wear gym clothes that can control muscle rhythms during workouts. Compression shorts are easy to wear and also reduce the risk of injuries.

List Your the Goals

Keeping a list of the objectives that one wants to achieve with regard to their body can make a person determined and motivated to continue with the gym. It will also help people to stick to a routine, and make the necessary changes to their lifestyle easier.

Ask for Help

A person should ask family and friends for help in maintaining exercise routines. The push from loved ones can help the person to keep going to the gym. After all, they know what is best for us.

Find the Right Workout Regime

Sometimes, the wrong workout regime can dissuade people from going to the gym. It is very important to consult health experts and trainers when it comes to personal workout regimes so that you can map out a proper plan.

Final Thoughts

Getting into shape is a tough job. The sheer amount of hard work and willpower required may seem like an uphill task. It can make many people quit the gym after just one day.

However, once a person overcomes this uncertainty by following these simple tips, they can achieve their desired results in no time. Taking care of one’s body should be an important priority and should not be neglected.

Kemba “Last Year Being Broke”

Rising Bronx rapper Kemba unleashes a brand new single entitled “Last Year Being Broke”.

Get it HERE via Sounds Music Group/Republic Records.

“Last Year Being Broke” once again illuminates the edge of his indisputable and inimitable take on timeless East Coast hip-hop.

The single also follows up his recent breakout “Deadass.” The latter’s music video just debuted on Complexlast week. Plus, the track has amassed 1.5 million Spotify streams and counting to date. Dubbing it “a great one,” Brooklyn Vegan praised how the single “finds the middle ground between Kendrick Lamar and classic New York rap.” Putting it best. HotNewHipHop pegged him as “bound to do some big things this year.”

It makes perfect sense Kemba calls The Bronx—the birthplace of hip-hop—home. He literally carries the genre with him everywhere. Making a name for himself as a fan favorite under the name of YC The Cynic, he dropped a series of lauded projects and songs from 2010 through 2013. Adopting the moniker Kemba, he ignited his rise with the album Negus. In addition to a highly cited interview on Real Late W/Peter Rosenberg, he joined Kendrick Lamar on stage during an American Express-sponsored concert live-streamed online. He kept his head down and continued writing just as any true hip-hop hero would.

Opinion: Will tariffs really raise consumer prices?

President Trump recently raised tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese exports and threatened to impose import duties on all Chinese goods coming into the United States.  Will American prices rise substantially as a result? This is a loaded question, because contrary to popular belief, tariffs don’t always raise prices.

One alarming study from The Trade Partnership, a think tank, estimates that an average American family of four may have to pay an extra $767. And if all Chinese exports are taxed, the cost could rise to more than $2,000.

However, the effects of tariffs on prices are not as straightforward as they may appear at first glance. Indeed, until the pioneering contribution by the late Lloyd Metzler, a University of Chicago professor, the question was not even explored. It was taken for granted that tariffs automatically raise the prices of imported goods. But Metzler’s article, known in the literature on international economics as the Metzler Paradox, changed this view once and for all. Let us analyze the problem without hysteria.

Tariffs have two effects on prices: one tending to raise them, the other tending to lower them. The overall impact depends on which effect is stronger.

It all comes down to supply and demand for goods in China. The United States is a large importer of Chinese products, so tariffs will cause a huge decline in American demand for Chinese goods because of the initial rise in prices. But as demand falls substantially, the prices of exportable goods inside China will also decline substantially.

Assuming that transportation costs are minimal, as they are nowadays, the American price of a Chinese product is determined as follows: American Price = Chinese Price(1 + t), where “t” is the rate of tariff. From this formula, it is clear that there are two countervailing effects on the U.S. price of Chinese goods. A rise in the tariff rate initially tends to raise it, whereas the resultant fall in the Chinese price tends to lower it. The final effect depends on whether the Chinese price declines more or less than the rate of tariff.

As a simple example, suppose Walmart imports a shirt from China for $20, and then faces a 25 percent tariff on that import. If China’s price is constant, then the same shirt will now cost $24. But the Chinese price cannot stay constant. Since the United States imports a vast number of Chinese shirts, the demand for Chinese shirts will fall sharply, and that will lower the Chinese price. Say this price declines to $18, then a 25 percent tariff will raise its U.S. cost by one fourth to $22.50, which is still higher than its free-trade cost of $20.

At a Chinese price of $16, the tariff-inclusive price will be the same as the free-trade price. But if the Chinese price were to fall below $16, the cost to Walmart will be less than $20. Thus, it all depends on the forces of supply and demand inside China.

The extent of the Chinese price decrease depends on the cost of producing a shirt. If this cost is low, then the price decrease can be large in the wake of declining demand, because a producer can still make some profit. Since Chinese wages are much lower than American wages, the Chinese cost of producing a shirt is likely to be very low, in which case the Chinese shirt price can fall substantially. If that happens, American prices of goods imported from China could actually decline.

Indeed, this may explain why thus far the U.S. tariffs that were imposed on Chinese exports in September 2018 have not been inflationary. In fact, even the Federal Reserve has been surprised by the recent cooling of core inflation and, as a result, pledged not to raise interest rates any further.

So the American consumer has nothing to worry about, especially when the consumer can easily switch to imports from other countries.

Large trade deficits with China have decimated American manufacturing and wages. U.S. industries need a revival, and tariffs are indispensable toward this purpose. In 1800, at the start of the American republic, barely 5 percent of the U.S. labor force was employed in manufacturing; today, according to the Economic Report of the President, 2019, the share is about 8 percent — vastly below the 30 percent figure that prevailed in the 1960s.
We are very close to where we were in 1800, and clearly, the manufacturing sector still needs a lot of support.

Note that under Abraham Lincoln tariffs were as high as 60 percent. As a result, following the Civil War, American manufacturing became the envy of the world. By 1900 the United States was among the nations with the highest living standard. Even though tariffs were high, prices fell or remained stable for several years.

Such price behavior helped raise the overall standard of living. When a 60 percent tariff rate could not harm the American consumer, how can a mere 25 percent? Free trade has been the holy grail of international economics for decades, but historically, the fastest growth in the American living standard has occurred under the umbrella of tariffs.

The Dead Files Returns

Former NYPD homicide detective Steve DiSchiavi and physical medium Amy Allan are back on the case with a brand-new season of Travel Channel’s hit series, “The Dead Files,” premiering on Thursday, July 11 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In each of the 10 one-hour episodes, the duo joins forces to help frightened property owners suffering from unexplained and dangerous paranormal activity. From their unique viewpoints, DiSchiavi and Allan work to uncover the truth behind their clients’ startling claims – and ultimately decide if it’s safe for them to stay.

In every hair-raising episode, DiSchiavi and Allan first investigate each case separately. Utilizing his detective skills, DiSchiavi interviews witnesses and experts, and researches the history and facts behind each location. Allan, a physical medium who sees and communicates with the dead, assesses the property to identify what underlying entities reside there. Keeping their findings hidden from each other, the team avoids all contact with one another – coming together only at the very end to reveal their shocking discoveries to the property owners, and each other. In each episode’s intense conclusion, the team will determine if there’s a way for the clients to stay and fight, or if it’s best for them to leave.

“I’ve seen a lot of things throughout my career, but the cases this season shock even me,” said DiSchiavi. “These families need our help, and for many, we’re their last hope. Amy and I are determined to bring them the answers they need to move forward.”

“I never know what I’m going to encounter when I go into these places, and it can be terrifying,” added Allan. “But providing much-needed information for these homeowners, and giving them the tools to overcome these hauntings once and for all, is the ultimate payoff.”

In the season opener, DiSchiavi and Allan investigate a frightened woman’s claims that decades of paranormal activity in her Tonawanda, New York, the home has now become dangerously violent. During their separate investigations, DiSchiavi uncovers the story of a twisted teenager who poisoned several children, while Allan’s walk reveals a dark entity focused on tormenting the living.

Upcoming episodes:

“Demon Seed” – Premieres Thursday, July 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

Steve DiSchiavi and Amy Allan travel to Gatesville, Texas, where a couple is being tormented by demonic entities hellbent on destroying their home and their grandchildren. During their separate investigations, DiSchiavi uncovers the dark and sordid history of a boys’ reformatory turned female prison, while Allan encounters a vicious serpent-like entity that is set on contaminating the souls of all who inhabit the property.

“The Watchers” – Premieres Thursday, July 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

Steve DiSchiavi and Amy Allan travel to Blue Springs, Missouri, where a mother fears for the safety of her children as unseen forces torment them on a daily basis. During their separate investigations, DiSchiavi discovers the property was the scene of a gruesome murder-suicide in the 1960s, while Allan encounters the spirit of a dead man who has a deep resentment towards women and children.

“Not My Child” – Premieres Thursday, August 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

Lexus Reveals Hoverboard

Following the unveiling of the Lexus Hoverboard in June, the luxury automotive company is completing a full and final reveal of the project concluding a successful testing phase which took place in Cubelles, Barcelona.

Mark Templin, Executive Vice President at Lexus International said: “Embarking on this project, we set out to push the boundaries of technology, design and innovation to make the impossible possible. With this project we call ‘SLIDE’, we collaborated with partners who share our passion for creating enjoyment out of motion. Even through combining our technology and expertise, we discovered making a hoverboard isn’t an easy process. We’ve experienced the highs and lows and have overcome a few challenges, but through mutual determination we have created a demonstration of our philosophy in design and technology to create Amazing in Motion.”

The Lexus Hoverboard project began 18 months ago through a collaboration with a team of scientists from IFW Dresden and evico GmbH, who specialize in magnetic levitation technology. Following extensive testing with pro skateboarder and hoverboard test rider Ross McGouran, in Dresden, Germany, the team were determined to push the hoverboard to its limits and conduct further tests within dynamic surroundings.

“I’ve spent 20 years skateboarding, but without friction it feels like I’ve had to learn a whole new skill, particularly in the stance and balance in order to ride the hoverboard. It’s a whole new experience,” said pro skateboarder and hoverboard test rider Ross McGouran.

Since the Lexus Hoverboard was unveiled in June, testing has been carried out in a specially constructed hoverpark, combining elements from skate culture with technology within its architecture. Up to 200 meters of magnetic track was transported to Barcelona from the Dresden facility to lay beneath the hoverpark surface in order to create the dynamic test, offering Lexus the opportunity to demonstrate tricks no skateboard could ever perform, like travelling across water. Lexus has captured the final ride footage and released it as a film led by award winning director Henry-Alex Rubin.

The Lexus Hoverboard technology features two “cryostats”—reservoirs in which superconducting material is kept at -197 degrees through immersion in liquid nitrogen. The board is then placed above a track that contains permanent magnets. Dr. Oliver de Haas, evico CEO, said: “The magnetic field from the track is effectively ‘frozen’ into the superconductors in the board, maintaining the distance between the board and the track—essentially keeping the board hovering. This force is strong enough to allow the rider to stand and even jump on the board.”

The Lexus Hoverboard film called “SLIDE” features the high performance GS F and is part of the fourth project in the Lexus “Amazing in Motion” campaign series that showcases creativity and innovation from the Lexus brand.
