Terrell Hines, Capitol Music Group, 360 MAGAZINE

TERRELL HINES – Get Up

Terrell Hines releases the video for “Get Up,” shot in Quebec at an abandoned Asbestos Mine and directed by Mishka Kornai, the song is off Hines’ debut EP on Capitol Records, St. Mark Rd.. Watch the video HERE.

Hines is not only a songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer with influences as broad as Outkast, Joy Division, Four Tet, and Gullah music, but his mind isn’t quite like other people’s. It’s no wonder Berklee College of Music gave Hines a full ride, or that people’s first exposure to his vision came during a 2019 Apple Keynote— that song, the rip-roaring avant-hoedown “Get Up,” hails from St. Mark Rd. EP, and is a mere peek into the wildness that’s coming.

Pharrell Williams. Chris Martin. Sky Ferreira. Dev Hynes. Well-known names involved in Beck’s new album Hyperspace. But for the album’s title track guest vocals are from Terrell Hines, a new artist who has yet to release a full album, yet whose music contains multitudes in the way it blurs all manner of genres into one big urgent, beautiful, hyper-dynamic ball of energy.

Yes, the core of his sound is a living mix of eerie soul, alt-pop, hip-hop, post-punk, and southern funk, but Hines is a world-builder with a voracious mind. This Georgia-born, Los Angeles-based visionary has created an entire ecosystem for his songs, where sonic structures and lyrics are just as likely to be inspired by the socio-political as they are the personal, by functional architecture as abstract art, by the austere science of survivalism as the limitless potential of technology. The best part is, you don’t have to know all that to feel the holistic magic of Hines’ work. We hear immediacy, exuberance, freedom, and ingenuity — music as surprising as it is captivating — while he sees a burning question: “If shit popped off and society had to be rebuilt,” asks Hines, “how would I do it?”

The concept that drives his music — an even split of postmodern and post-apocalyptic — is how he funnels all his obsessions into what he does best. He’s a renaissance man who can be found devouring books on linguistics, synesthesia, or evolutionary psychology in his downtime. Or considering which metals one would want to gather following a catastrophe, then actually sampling those metals in the studio. “I’m trying to engineer the future,” says Hines.

“An even split of postmodern and post-apocalyptic, Hines’ St. Mark Rd. is the triumphant birth of an artist that knows there’s nothing he can’t turn into song. It makes you feel hopeless and hopeful at the same time. It makes your heart swell…” -Substream Magazine

Question Mid Heart Over Hype

Reebok announces the launch of the all new Question Mid Heart Over Hype sneaker, celebrating those who follow in Allen Iverson’s footsteps by prioritizing energy, passion and determination over flash. The new sneakers will be introduced with a film starring Josh Richardson, who is currently in his first season with Philadelphia, as he learns about the culture of his new team’s city; one that reflects those same values of grit, substance and hard work embodied by Allen Iverson.

A poignant journey welcoming Richardson to Philadelphia, the film follows the guard, clad in the Heart Over Hype sneakers, as he explores the city and meets the unheralded residents, businesses and community organizations that define its unique energy. Whether it’s the owner of local cheesesteak spot Tony Luke’s, the urban equestrians of Fletcher Street, the famed dirt bike riders or the city’s staple Midrange Morris Basketball league, these Philly residents possess a palpable passion for what they do and paint a picture of what “heart over hype” truly means.

“There are so many unmistakable traits that define the city and the people of Philadelphia like hard work, resilience and grit,” said Richardson. “This is a city that shows so much heart, just like Iverson, and it’s an honor to play here and call it home.”

“As a shooting guard who reflects Iverson’s hustle, passion and determination, Josh is the perfect player to take up the mantle of Iverson’s legacy in Philadelphia,” said Johnice Bristol, Head of U.S. Marketing, Reebok. “With Heart Over Hype, we are excited to highlight a local story yet universal sentiment, as we continue to celebrate Iverson and the shoe that forever changed the game.”

When it comes to the admiration and appreciation residents have for their local heroes who, like Iverson, prioritize heart over hype, local dirt bike rider Mont adds, “When Philly rock with you, we rock with you until the wheels fall off.”

Following the sneaker’s global drop, Reebok and Richardson will continue to celebrate Philadelphia by stopping at key locations from the film and distributing pairs of the Question Mid Heart Over Hype throughout the city next month. In addition to the sneakers, Reebok will give away a hyper-exclusive run of Reebok co-branded merch, designed in collaboration with some of the film’s stars.

The Question Mid Heart Over Hype is a reintroduction of Iverson’s iconic Question Mid, which was the first signature shoe he debuted with Reebok in the 1996-97 season. The silhouette features bold red and black colors that signify Iverson’s mentality of valuing energy, passion and determination over flash.

It is the first silhouette within the “Heart of Hustle” series that will highlight specific aspects of Iverson’s personal life. Retailing for $150, the silhouette is available beginning December 23rd, 2019 on Reebok.com and across the Foot Locker family of brands, including: Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Footaction, Champs Sports and Eastbay.com.

How to Choose air Purifiers

In homes and business premises, poor air quality has a direct impact on the health of the occupants. Exposure to pollutants, fine particles and pathogens can lead to serious diseases. Follow our tips for choosing the right purifier for your situation.

How does an air purifier function?

A turbine propels air through filters that target certain pathogenic species through physical or chemical processes, by capture or transformation.

The pre-filter, upstream of all the others, captures hairs and other volatile wastes that can hinder the proper functioning of the system. Then, discharged solids, the air circulates in a series of different filters composing the purifier. It is this combination of filters that defines the purification quality of the device, which can be used to deal with particles of at least 0.3 μm (micrometers) such as bacteria and viruses.

The filters making up the air purifiers can be particulate, ionization, combustion, photocatalytic or plasma. Each filter corresponds to a use, a precise filtration to deal with several types of pollutants.

Why purify the air?

The air of our habitats can be polluted by many sources: the paint that covers the walls; the furniture decorating the living room; the road traffic if you live in the city or the factory in the corner of the block or neighborhood.

A purifier therefore cleans the air of the room where it is located and reduce our exposure to pollutants that sometimes prove to be carcinogenic.

Ozone production: health risks

When we talk about an air purifier, we quickly fall on articles mentioning the dangers of ozone. Breathing air containing more than 120μg / m3 for 8 hours a day irritates the mucous membranes and respiratory tract and causes asthma. Aggressive air ionization processes produce large amounts of ozone, incompatible with occupancy by other living beings. For home use, make sure that the purifier does not produce ozone.

VOCs: attention danger

Volatile Organic Compounds are emitted by manufactured products that contain glues, solvents or during the burning of certain materials. Furniture made of chipboard, melamine, laminate flooring, synthetic leathers, foam sofas or mattresses are all sources of formaldehyde that can make your air unhealthy. These formaldehyde are recognized as carcinogenic by health authorities. It is therefore necessary to limit its concentration in the atmosphere.

Air purifier: which filter for which use

The filters that you may encounter on the shelves of a seller of air purifiers are various and numerous; each has its own use:

Particle filter

Characterized by the minimum size of the particles that it can capture, expressed in micrometer (μm) or millionth of a meter and for High Efficiency Particulate Air, a HEPA filter is required. These filters can filter up to 99.97% of particles with a diameter greater than or equal to 0.3 μm. These particles are combustion ashes, pollen, dust produced by tires and brake pads. They are responsible for respiratory diseases such as asthma. You will understand that it is essential to have a particle filter of good quality, especially if you are allergic to pollen, asthmatic or if you live near a major road.

Ionization filter

Ionization is the process by which we add or remove electrons from the atoms of molecules to modify their properties. This filter removes electrons from particles and pollutants in the air. Once these particles become neutral, they are less aggressive.

Combustion filter

Bacteria, fungi and particles are burned upon contact with a surface heated to 200 ° C. The air is of course cooled before it is transmitted again in order to avoid harming the comfort of the occupants.

Plasma filter

When ionized air contains as many free electrons as there are neutral atoms, we speak of plasma. A large amount of energy is used to excite the oxygen molecules that are sent into the room air. They will then oxidize the various pollutants and destroy them. The aggressive nature of this filter is intended for industrial use only, it is therefore prohibited for commercial or residential use.

Purifier: noise nuisance

The airflow and turbine can produce a loud noise that can be annoying in a living room, an office where you need concentration or in any other small place. This requires checking the sound pressure, expressed in decibels (dB). A sound pressure of 50 dB corresponds to a normal conversation, which is already a lot for a room.

Below 20 dB, the device will be more discreet. This result can be obtained by very virtuous devices or at variable speed. The volume of air treated per hour can then be decreased, to limit the noise, or, on the contrary, increased, to quickly renew the air of a room. This turbo mode is valuable for very exposed and occupied premises.

What maintenance for an air purifier

Each of the filters mentioned above brings its stone to the room and their proper functioning. Dust, hair and debris taken from the pre-filter must first be removed by hand.

Each type of filter has an interview of its own. Refer to the manufacturer’s technical documentation to see if the filters are cleanable and how to proceed with doing so. Handle them with care and scrupulously respect the instructions to avoid damaging them. The procedure to follow is often to pass under warm water, over a damp cloth or a soft brush and then let them dry before putting everything back in place again.
Disposable HEPA filters should be replaced periodically. Check the periodicity of the replacement and the price of the consumable to avoid it from being ruined.

Maintenance-free filters, such as combustion ones, need to be replaced when they are no longer working. The availability of these spare parts guarantees a long-term usage.

Consumption and sizing of the air purifier

Power consumption

The nominal power of the device characterizes its consumption during normal operation. For a simple hepa filter, the power required to turn the turbine is merely a few watts (W).

The UV, ionization or combustion filters are more greedy and a multi-level purifier can consume a hundred watts. This power is sometimes more than the device can handle.

Dimension: air treatment cycle

It is considered that to obtain a good quality air, the device must be able to treat 3-4 times the volume of the room in one hour. Multiply the volume of cubic meter of your room by 3 or 4 and you will have the volume of air in cubic meter per hour. If this purifier is intended for a living room, you can opt for a design air purifier. If you want to be able to move it around the house or office, a compact model weighing less than ten kilograms is perfect.

How to regulate hygrometry with an air purifier

The humidity level, or hygrometric rate of the air of a house should be in a range between 30 % and 70 %. Underneath, dry air causes certain respiratory diseases and facilitates the spread of viruses including influenza. Beyond this, excess moisture condenses on cold walls. This moisture promotes the appearance of mold on walls, clothes or anything made from leather. In addition to the unpleasant smell, spores released into the atmosphere cause asthma attacks in vulnerable people.

6 Ways to Use Technology Mindfully

A smartphone is a tool, not a person–we all know that. And yet, we’re only spending 34 minutes a day with our families. This adds up to just 8.6 days a year spent with our loved ones–compared to 50 days a year on our phones.

There is often a big gap between knowing we want to use technology more mindfully, and knowing how to do just that. Here are some ways to break the cycle of addition to our devices and bring back intention and thoughtfulness into your technology use.

Here are 6 Ways to Use Technology Mindfully:

  1. Turn off all notifications that aren’t from a human being in real time.

This is a vital step for stopping the cycle. Text messages and phone calls are okay, but all app and news notifications are out. App notifications, after all, are simply advertisements trying to get you to open up an app–which might be in the business’ best interest, but it is rarely in yours.

2. Put your phone into greyscale mode.

While it will still function just the same, putting your phone into greyscale mode makes many of the things we do on our phone much less interesting–and thus much less tempting. If you don’t want to leave your phone in greyscale mode all the time, you can do it occasionally. I have a keyboard shortcut set up so that I can easily put my screen into this mode if I’m having trouble putting my phone down.

3. Don’t do anything on your phone that you can do on your computer instead (especially social media.)

This is a wonderful way to cut back on things like social media usage without forcing it: when we limit things like reading news and scrolling our social feeds to our computers, we will naturally spend less time doing them–and will also limit this behavior to just one spot, rather than, well, everywhere.

4. Get your phone out of the bedroom.

Get an alarm clock, if you don’t already have one, and charge your phone in another room at night. If you truly feel like you need to have it in the bedroom with you when you sleep, put it into “Do Not Disturb” mode (this way your important contacts can get through in an emergency) and plug it in across the room and away from your bed. It’s key to have it out of “reaching” distance, so that there is effort between you and the temptation. (And in case it has to be said: your phone doesn’t belong in your bathroom, either.)

5. Commit to screen-free time once a week.

For many of us, our brains have become so used to having our phones as constant companions (more than 2/3 or us are sleeping with them, after all) that we can’t imagine even taking a walk without them. Commit to spending some time once a week–even an hour once a week is a great idea–with no technology at all. No TV, no e-book reader, no computer, and no phone (seriously, no phone; turn it off and put it in a drawer.) This time helps our brains remember that we can be okay without our devices, which begins to take some of the power away from the addictive cycle.

6. Clear out your home screen.

Use “out of sight, out of mind” to your advantage, and clear out your home screen. Hide apps that tend to tempt you in folders and several pages over, and limit what’s on your home screen to only things that serve you (such as, perhaps, calculators, meditation apps, or timers.)

There is no need to do all of these things at once; cold turkey rarely works. But by beginning to bring intentionality and thoughtfulness into your interactions with technology, you can become an increasingly more mindful user of technology–and bring human connection to the forefront of your life once again.

Purple Disco Machine

The Purple Disco Machine remix of ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ has been unveiled today and is available now at all digital retailers. Listen to the remix HERE.

An Academy Awards shortlisted, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award nominated song, the original version of ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ was written especially for the ‘Rocketman’ soundtrack by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and performed by Elton and Taron Egerton. The original version is featured on the GRAMMY nominated Top 5 album ‘Rocketman: Music From The Motion Picture’ (out now on Interscope Records) and played out over the movie’s closing credits. With his remix, Purple Disco Machine gracefully transforms ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ into a joyous, slinky disco groove, keeping Elton and Taron’s show-stopping vocals and the track’s Motown inspired soul at its core.

Epic musical fantasy ‘Rocketman’ was greeted by a wealth of critical and commercial success upon its release in May and shows no sign of slowing down as it heads into awards season. Having already taken more than $195 million in global box office, it has been shortlisted for two Academy Awards for Makeup and Hairstyling, and Music (Original Song). Rocketman has also been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Original Song and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). It has also garnered nominations for three Critics’ Choice Awards and its soundtrack has also been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media.

Elton says “Bernie and I wanted to celebrate the nominations for “I’m Gonna Love Me Again”.  I’m so happy that Purple Disco Machine was able to come to the party with a fabulous new remix. I’m a massive fan of his work.”

The release caps off a year which has been truly astonishing in its breadth of achievements, even by Elton John’s standards. Alongside Rocketman’s ongoing success, 2019 has seen the release of Elton’s first autobiography ‘Me’. It has already amassed global sales in excess of 700,000 copies to date, topping bestseller charts around the world in the process and garnering widespread acclaim with critics heralding it as a genre-defining rock memoir. Reaching the top 5 of the UK Charts, the GRAMMY® nominated album ‘Rocketman: Music From The Motion Picture’ saw producer Giles Martin reimagine Elton’s unparalleled back catalogue to fit Rocketman’s narrative, working with the filmmakers on the production and pulling a vocal masterclass from Taron in the studio. September 2019 saw The Royal Mail issue a set of 12 stamps as a tribute to Elton being one of the most popular and enduring music artists of all time. Elton is one of only two individual music artists to be featured in a dedicated stamp issue. In June 2019 President Emmanuel Macron presented Elton the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest award, for his lifetime contribution to the arts and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Elton’s ongoing Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour was named Billboard’s Top Rock Tour in May 2019, the accolade coming a year after Billboard named Elton as the most successful male solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 chart history.

CLEOPATRA OF CULTURE

Fine Artist Dimitra Milan Shapes the Next Generation of Social Sales-Womanship

In a generation filled with unabashed selfies, Dimitra Milan stands apart.

An art prodigy who has gained international recognition after being discovered at the tender age of 15, Milan has amassed an impressive following of eager-to-buy audiences who are apt to discover the next big thing.

A celebrated fine artist, her unique signature style reveals highly structured and figurative compositions that unravel an entire world before us. Like a map, the work guides us through a multilayered mystery that is both alluring and untamed. Milan’s work shifts in time and space and requires close attention when unearthing the dramatic effect of her imagination.

The vast catalog of her work has been sold in nine different galleries across the U.S and Europe, reaching over $1M in sales within her very first professional year.

“I’m inspired to paint beauty and to bring more beauty into this world. The world desperately needs more light and truth. I hope my art inspires people to follow their own dreams and pursue their passions. I want my art to touch a deep place in people and bring them into a higher mindset.” —Dimitra Milan

As a new generation of Millennial art collectors enter the scene, they are determined to turn the stereotype of salesmanship squarely on its head.

Historically, collectors bought work at auction or through art galleries. Still, the marketplace is quickly moving online, empowering a digital generation of art buyers quick to pick up pieces through PayPal. Online communication makes buyers instantly privy to what was once a private process, connecting artists directly with customers, which millennials prefer.

This is the matrix of Milan’s mission.

As part of the next generation of artists sharing their work on social media, Milan has built a global fanbase while her sought-after paintings have resided in private collections all over the world.

As a young entrepreneur with vision and a pioneering spirit, Milan bucked tradition to work directly with collectors through social media where she grew her Instagram and Facebook followings, created online events, and worked with private collectors while instituting a print program.

Fully embracing the financial success of independent autonomy, her plans now include the creation of virtual interactive commissions, live studio streaming, and building a social platform for other independent artists to grow their own social businesses.

Independence has proved successful as Dimitra Milan’s sales have quadrupled, and her work has enjoyed a wider international audience of auctions and appreciation.

Born into a family of established artists, Dimitra developed her style from a very young age at the Milan Art Institute, founded by her parents Elli and John Milan. From oil techniques to contemporary mixed media, Dimitra’s skill set grew along with her desire to paint. The artist then started homeschooling so she could dedicate her free time to improving and exploring her creative talent. It proved to be time well-spent because after finishing high school early, she started painting full time. The Milan’s teenage daughters — Dimitra, Dafni, and Dalia — are all accomplished artists in their own right, and collectively, their work has sold to collectors in Saudi Arabia, the United Emirates, Australia, Japan, and throughout Europe. The family members are all active on social media, where Dimitra has more than 120K Instagram followers and a store on Pinterest.

Although the next generation may never return to the foundational media the older generation used, new roads often lead to undiscovered lands. A perfect setting for the whimsical and surreal world Milan creates where anything is possible, and fearless subjects harmoniously coexist.
