How to Pick the Right Jeans for Your Body Type

Read on to learn about the different types of jeans to make the right choice for your body type, style, and budget here.

A whopping 450 million pairs of jeans are sold every year in the United States alone.

With so much denim on the market, it can be tough to decide which types of jeans you need. Indeed, different styles of jeans will flatter different shapes and sizes. What looks best on the mannequin might not suit your silhouette.

We’re here to help you with that. Here are the best types of jeans for each body type.

Boyfriend Jeans

Let’s start with a comfortable favorite — boyfriend jeans.

This style is meant to be slouchy and baggy as if you borrowed your beau’s denim for the day.

For the most part, boyfriend jeans flatter athletic or apple shapes. If you do opt to wear them, pair your pants with a more fitted top to balance out the bagginess of your jeans.

Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut jeans fit closely in the thighs and hips but flare out around the ankles. This style elongates the leg, but that’s not all. The added fabric at the bottom can balance out curvier hips.

That’s why bootcut jeans look especially great on hourglass figures or pear-shaped wearers.

Take your bootcut jeans to the next level by pairing them with a heeled bootie or pump. They’ll elongate your legs even more effectively this way.

As for your top, you can wear just about anything with bootcut jeans. They’re so versatile, which is why they keep coming back into style.

Flared Jeans

Perhaps the bootcut style isn’t enough of a statement for you. You’re in luck — you can wear flares instead.

They provide you all the same benefits as a bootcut pair of jeans. They elongate your legs and balance out fuller hips. Pear and hourglass figures look particularly incredible in this jean style.

However, you do have to make sure you don’t overwhelm your silhouette with massive flares. As a standard rule of thumb, have yours tailored so that they just graze the floor.

You can make them even more flattering by pairing them with heels, which will make your legs seem longer. Then, slip into a billowy 70s-style top or a tighter tee to show off your hips.

Mom Jeans

Mom jeans fit high on the waist and accentuate your hips and bum. They then fit more loosely in the legs.

You may wonder how to style mom jeans, considering they’re a throwback fashion choice. However, you can make them feel fresh with a simple white t-shirt or a 90s shirt for a completely vintage look.

No matter how you wear them, know that mom jeans will look particularly flattering if you have an hourglass figure. You can also use them to create a curvier waist if you have a more athletic build.

Straight Leg Jeans

There’s a slight difference between straight leg jeans and skinny jeans. These have the same straight-up-and-down style, but they’re slightly less clingy in the legs.

As such, straight leg jeans might be your more comfortable option, if you’re not a fan of skinny jeans. In particular, though, this style flatters hourglass shapes, athletic builds, and apple shapes.

You can easily pull off a business casual look with straight leg jeans. Your tailored trousers look perfect with ballet flats and a blazer for the office.

Of course, you can wear straight leg jeans for the weekend, too. Pair them with sneakers and a t-shirt for the perfect comfy-casual look.

Skinny Jeans

On that note, let’s discuss skinny jeans.

The name may imply that they flatter a specific body type, but skinny jeans get their name from their fit. They’re supposed to hug your thighs and calves down to the ankle. In comparison, straight leg jeans aren’t tapered to your ankle like skinny jeans are.

Most skinny jeans come in comfortable, stretchy fabric to create this effect. Better yet, they look good on every body shape.

If you want to make your skinny jeans more flattering, though, choose the right color. Pear and hourglass figures will look best in dark wash denim. Meanwhile, those with apple or athletic shapes will wow in lighter hues.

Balance out your skinny jeans with looser, oversized tops. Of course, you can go full wow and partner them with a shirt that hugs your body. Va-va-voom!

Low-Rise Jeans

You don’t just have to consider the cut of your denim — different rises will flatter your body differently, too.

Low rise jeans sit about two inches beneath your belly button. They can seriously flatter hourglass figures, showing off your curves. They also look fab on athletic bodies.

You can easily find low-rise skinny and straight-leg jeans. For more retro styles, such as mom jeans, you’d be hard-pressed to find them in this more modern cut.

Mid-Rise Jeans

Next, you have mid-rise jeans, which sit just beneath your belly button. Most people look great in this style. Plus, they look good with just about any type of top.

So, when in doubt, go mid-rise. You should be able to find most of the above jeans styles in mid-rise cuts, too.

High-Rise Jeans

Finally, you have high-rise jeans, which sit above your navel. The retro-inspired cut flatter hips and whittled waists.

You can also use high-rise jeans to create curves on a more athletic build.

Which Types of Jeans Are Best for You?

Fashion is ever-changing, and so are the types of jeans that are in style. With the above guide, though, you know the basics of which jeans will flatter which body types.

And, with that information, you can find the pair best suited to your shape. So, find them, try them on and see just how fabulous you look in the right jeans. And tell us your favorite style of jeans in the comments section below.

Celeste, 360 MAGAZINE

Celeste – I Can See The Change

Soul singer and BBC Sound of 2020 winner Celeste has shared the official video for her sweeping FINNEAS-produced new single “I Can See The Change,” out now via Interscope Records. The video features iconic footage from the historic 1963 March on Washington.

“The song was written from a very personal and introspective place,” Celeste explains, “however it has taken on a new and more powerful meaning because of what has been happening with COVID-19 and the global reinvigoration of the Black Lives Matter movement. The video was shot at home in my living room, which was completely blacked out using thick, heavy fabric. It was the hottest day of the year so far, so it was a challenge. It was directed by Sophie Jones and shot remotely via Zoom with my housemate Holly Milk who took on the role of camera person, lighting operator and all-round life saver.”

Celeste’s spine-tingling performance of her song “Strange” at this year’s BRIT Awards, coinciding with her Rising Star award win, was a watershed moment for the British-Jamaican singer, placing her in the spotlight in front of luminaries like Stormzy, Dave, Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. Stormzy called it “a perfect song!” while Billie and her songwriter-producer brother FINNEAS have proven to be some of her most outspoken supporters yet. Celeste and FINNEAS ultimately stayed in touch and decided to collaborate on the new song, finishing it during lockdown. Upon the song’s release, FINNEAS shared via his Instagram “Celeste is gonna go down as one of the greats. It was a thrill to produce this song for her.”

Zakat Foundation Food Relief

Zakat Foundation of America will deliver nearly 35,000 pounds of farm-fresh produce into food-insecure East Oakland for free distribution Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Masjidul Waritheen, 1700 47th Avenue, the city’s oldest mosque.

The food relief for hurting families comes after weeks of near-total shutdowns, impelled by violent police crackdowns on diverse anti-racist protestors outraged by ongoing rampant police brutality against African Americans, ignited by the public police-lynching of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day.

The protests and ensuing police action have come in the wake of months of deadly pandemic disruptions, particularly for perennially underserved African American communities locked in health care and food deserts.

“True faith is more than belief in the heart. It is to act quickly with humane empathy and mercy on behalf of the vulnerable,” said Halil Demir, Zakat Foundation’s executive director, “We want to put a little bit of love in the hearts of people, bring some healing to our nation.”

Believers in Humanity Abound

Demir’s quest of compassion has resonated deeply with a growing, diverse array of eager religious and nonprofit groups.

More than 30 organizations under the Northern California Islamic Council (NCIC) umbrella — including Lighthouse Mosque, CAIR-CA (Council on American-Islamic Relations), SABA and others scattered throughout the Bay Area — will help pass out crates brimming with colorful fruits and vegetables to some 7,000 people in urgent need of the fresh nutrition.

“The Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, said, ‘He is no believer who sleeps at night while his neighbor goes hungry.’ So we want to be sure we live by that, that we take care of all our neighbors,” said Hatem Bazian, chair of NCIC, “Each and every human being has a right to quality food, clean water, health care and shelter, and blessed are those that make this possible.”

Jewish Voice for Peace’s Bay Area chapter is also set to volunteer. In a statement, the JVPBA quoted the Torah, which says “Tzedek tzedek tirdof,” translated as “Justice, justice shall you pursue.”

Relief workers from the international humanitarian agency, headquartered in Bridgeview, Illinois, near Chicago, have packed each produce box with 25 pounds of farm-fresh tomatoes, apples, oranges, cucumbers, lettuce, celery, carrots, asparagus, onions, potatoes, and other fruits and vegetables.

Bazian, who is co-editor and founder of the Islamophobia Studies Journal, director of the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project, and a senior lecturer in the Department of Near Eastern and Ethnic Studies at University of California, Berkeley, quickly points to where credit for the food project should go.

“NCIC’s partnership with the leadership of the Black Muslim community has made the efforts to address immediate food insecurity in the Bay Area possible,” Bazian said.

He lauds, as well, “the resourcefulness of Zakat Foundation of America. They’ve responded to the growing humanitarian needs in East Oakland, in particular — one of the heaviest hit with COVID-19 in Alameda County.”

Standing Up to Stand Together

But Bazian, too, has his eye on the larger societal picture.

“Our hope is that this is a first step of many toward building a healthy and more inclusive society,” Bazian said.

Organizers plan to follow the upcoming food giveaway with a socially distanced communal prayer.

Amna Mirza, the global charity’s head of marketing and communications and cornerstone liaison for the event, laments how “COVID-19 and recent curfews have forced us to stay indoors and keep away from family and friends. A sense of loneliness has overcome many of us, which is ironic because we live in an ever-connected world.”

So Mirza set Zakat Foundation’s fresh-food support for America’s downtrodden and pandemic-wearied in motion after Floyd’s murder. She’s now seen her idea spring to life in food distributions from coast to coast — including in North Carolina’s Triangle Region, coronavirus-battered New York, refugee-hub St. Louis, and protest epicenter Minneapolis.

“For two decades, Zakat Foundation has stood with the oppressed, providing aid to underrepresented communities throughout the world. Now is no time for us to stay silent,” Mirza said, “This is what Zakat Foundation stands for. To truly feel connected to each other. To understand the plight of our neighbor. To feel empathy. To understand it’s our humanity that connects us. It’s putting our common humanity above what divides us.”

Although Karen Huger and Ray are back in Potomac with a beautiful new home, their 23-year “institution” may be in question when Karen discovers that Ray’s feelings for her might not be the same as they used to be.

Ashley Darby and Michael are in heavenly bliss with their new baby, Dean. But just when their relationship gets back on track, their newfound happiness is threatened by news of Michael’s wild night on the town.

Robyn Dixon and Juan have been through hell and back, and after living under one roof with their two sons for six years, Robyn is ready to make things official. Now all she needs is for Juan to make his move or will she make hers first?

Juggling a house with three kids and a new feathered friend is taking its toll on Monique Samuels. The last thing she needs is drama with Candiace, but when a night with the girls gets out of hand, their friendship takes a turn that impacts all the women.

Candiace Dillard Bassett and Chris celebrate their first year of marriage and contemplate adding a baby to the equation. Before Candiace can focus on family matters, though, she must deal with her unresolved issues with Ashley and mounting conflicts with Monique.

Nigerian-American Dr. Wendy Osefo, the newest housewife, is a triple threat as a professor, political analyst, and entrepreneur. She’s been married for nine years and is the mother of three children, including a newborn daughter. Never one to be underestimated, she is full of sass and ready to make her mark in Potomac.

Meet the new housewife: Wendy Osefo

Dr. Wendy Osefo is the essence of a Renaissance woman— professor, political analyst, and entrepreneur. As a Maryland native, Nigerian-born Wendy joins the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” this season. With her strong personality, she knows how to hold her own and speak her mind when it comes to standing up to the other ladies.

Wendy’s life and upbringing embody the ultimate immigrant journey. Growing up with a single immigrant mother who put herself through college, Wendy learned first-hand the value of hard work and never thought of excuses or failure as options. Now an award-winning Nigerian-American television personality and progressive political analyst, she is on a quest to fulfill her insatiable appetite to succeed and obtain the American dream. Wendy received a Bachelor of Arts from Temple University, a Master of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Science from Rutgers University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Rutgers University, where she made history by becoming the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Public Affairs/Community Development.

Wendy is also a philanthropist who has sought to give back by supporting the next generation of leaders as the founder and CEO of the 1954 Equity Project, LLC, which provides tools, mentorship, and resources to underrepresented minorities to help them thrive in higher education. Wendy is currently a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education specializing in urban education and politics. Prior to joining the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University, Wendy served as the Director of Family and Community Engagement for President Barack Obama’s anti-poverty initiative, DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative. When she is not busy traveling to exotic destinations or on date nights with her hubby, Wendy loves to cook for her family. Wendy also has a penchant for interior design and hopes to start her own home essentials line in the future.

Wendy has been married for nine years. She and her Nigerian husband, attorney Edward Osefo met as teenagers, were friends for several years before making it official after graduating college, and have been together ever since. They have three beautiful children together, seven-year-old son Karter, five-year-old son Kruz, and the newest addition to the family, newborn daughter Kamrynn.

“The Real Housewives of Potomac” is produced by Truly Original with Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh, Lauren Eskelin, Lorraine Haughton-Lawson, Lauren Volonakis, and Kemar Bassaragh serving as Executive Producers. 4 Travel Goals You Need to Check Off in 2020

2020 has been a tough year so far. With lockdowns, isolation and social distancing, it has been difficult to really live life to its fullest.

If you are feeling a bit itchy to get out, know that you are not alone. In fact, research shows that 72% of Americans are already booking their trips now for when restrictions are lifted, with 35% of those willing to head out during the summer.

Has 2020 become the year for people to finally start ticking off their travel bucket list items? It sure seems so! With this in mind, we thought we would take a look at some of the most popular and most memorable experiences you can do this year, and most of them will not involve huge crowds of people.

RV Through the US

This particular trip tops the list of almost everyone who has a serious drive for adventure and travel. The beauty of RVing through the US is that you can choose the length of your trip, as well as decide which route you want to take.

Whether it would be taking in the majestic Rocky Mountains and stopping in at museums, diners, and, of course, Yellowstone, or a trip through the south to revel in some music, food, and incredible scenery through Florida, New Orleans and of course, Texas, you definitely won’t regret it.

There are endless possibilities that will lead you on totally different adventures, through vastly different scenery.

RVing is something that you will need to prepare for thoroughly because you can never know what might happen and whether you’ll have the right resources at the time being to fix it. This is easily avoidable if you just have everything at the ready so you can enjoy your trip to the max. One of the more important things to consider is to make sure you have enough fresh water and a good RV water softener solution that will tie you over in even the most desolate areas. Remember that water should always be your top priority,  Make sure you also plan your trips in detail before heading out so that you are not caught in the middle of nowhere without supplies and emergency services.

Explore the Wonders of Cape Town

Although Cape Town has been listed as one of the top beauty spots to visit globally by various sites, it is still one of the most chronically underrated spots to visit in the world. What makes Cape Town so special you ask? Well, it has almost everything you want out of a trip. This South African city, perched at the tip of Africa, has a uniquely international feel to it, and for the most part, you will forget that you are in fact, in Africa.

Besides boasting one of the seven wonders of the world, Table Mountain, the city has long stretches of white beaches, a bustling city life; bursting with art and culture, and sunsets that will make you want to live there forever.

Not even an hour out of Cape Town, you will find the sprawling Winelands, tucked into spectacular mountain ranges with some of the best wine in the world. Might we add that the food in South Africa is something not to be missed, from the fresh seafood to the world-famous braais, you will be in for a treat.

The city is steeped in history, and even if you are after a safari experience, you can also find this within a short drive out of the city. If you are a foodie, a wine snob, a coffee connoisseur, or an art fanatic, this city has it all!

Trek Through Peru

This is certainly not for the faint-hearted nor the chronically unfit. But, if a spiritual journey and soul-freeing trip is what you are looking for after months of cabin fever, this is for you. There are a plethora of trails and treks to choose from in this tourist popular region, each with its different levels of difficulty and challenges.

One of the most popular trails, the Inca trail is an iconic four-day hiking trail which leads you through the steep high mountains, from km. 82 all the way to the majestic Machu Picchu. You will follow the route taken by the original Incas to the historic World Heritage Site.

What do you need to be prepared for? Because of the height of the mountains that you will be hiking, you are most likely to suffer from altitude sickness, insects, dehydration, and of course, the blisters, injuries, and pain that comes from trekking through deserted mountainsides. But, it is totally worth it once you cross the last mountain and come face to face with Machu Picchu.

Take it Easy in Thailand

If this all sounds like too much effort, and what you feel like right now is just lying back on a warm beach, drinking cocktails, Asia should be your next destination.

Not only is Thailand incredibly affordable, but it offers visitors endless adventures and activities. The beauty of the islands is indescribable, with long, white beaches, still blue waters and dotted palm trees to really get you in the holiday spirit.

The food is incredible, the people are warm, friendly, and accommodating, and the weather is hot and humid at all times.

You can choose to island-hop to the various idyllic islands spotted around the crystal blue waters, including the iconic island that featured in the movie, The Beach. There are a number of other islands to visit, including Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, and Ko Phi Phi Don.

Alternatively, you can head up into the jungle and trek up through the mountains on an elephant adventure, or on foot to explore the rivers and waterfalls on this amazing island.

Wrapping Up

From world-class beaches to bustling cities, there are endless options for you to choose from. A desert adventure in Morocco could be down your alley, or a Northern Lights display on the tip of the Arctic. Whether you are a foodie or looking to take in some good live music and dance the night away, choose something that suits your unique personality and that will create memories that will last a lifetime. If it is unwinding in the sun after this stressful time, or feeling alive in the crisp mountain air, you know what your soul needs to ensure that 2020 is a year to be remembered.

Top Trans Models

By Katrina Tiktinsky

It’s Pride Month, and as we collectively recall LGBTQ+ history, and consider the particular challenges faced by these community members in our present society, it’s evident there’s much work to be done. Pride Month commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which found a leader in Marsha P. Johnson. Johnson was a black drag queen who ultimately identified as transgender. The NYPD originally ruled her premature death a suicide, but activists later called for a reopening of the case, and the police reclassified the cause of death as undetermined. The invaluable lives of trans people continue to face an especially disproportional high risk of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and violence so extreme as murder.

Vogue and the fashion industry at large have come under fire recently, and specifically in the midst of Black Lives Matter protests, for their failure to elevate minority figures. This lack of representation is symptomatic of broader systems of prejudice. And it’s important to remember the human cost of this prejudice, sometimes more insidious oppression, sometimes quite obvious violence. The fashion industry is inexcusably overdue when it comes to championing diversity in meaningful ways. With this context in mind, 360 has compiled a list of a few transgender models to watch — follow them on social media, support them, and (if you’re in the fashion world) cast them!

Isis King: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

The first trans woman on America’s Next Top Model (2008), King has modeled as the face of American Apparel, and created her own fashion line. She has transitioned toward acting, appearing in Netflix’s When They See Us.

Leyna Bloom: Instagram | Wikipedia

A model, dancer, and activist, Bloom was the first openly transgender model to walk in New York Fashion Week (2017), as well as the first trans woman of color on the cover of Vogue India. She broke a third record, as the first trans woman of color in a leading role for a movie featured at a major film festival (Port Authority, at Cannes). Her roots are in the Chicago ballroom world, but she moved to New York as a teenager to pursue modeling.

Andreja Pejić: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Pejić became the first trans woman to sign a cosmetics contract, to appear on multiple magazine covers, and to headline a campaign for Bonds. She has modeled both men and women’s clothing.

Valentina Sampaio: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

The first transgender woman to model for Victoria’s Secret, less than a year after the CMO declared he would never hire a trans model. Sampaio has also graced Elle, Vanity Fair Italia, and Vogue Brasil covers.

Nathan Westling: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Westling has modeled for the likes of Versace and Dior, as well as gracing major magazine covers. Business of Fashion named him one of the 500 most influential figures in the industry. He began his modeling career in 2015, quickly gained steam as a top female model, and transitioned in 2019.

Teddy Quinlivan: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Quinlivan was discovered by Louis Vuitton’s Nicholas Ghesquière in 2015, and named the first openly transgender model to be the face of Chanel Beauty in 2019. She is a staunch advocate for the trans community in the fashion world and beyond. She has modeled for the likes of Jeremy Scott and Diane Von Furstenberg.

Chella Man: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Man is another record-breaker, the first deaf transgender model to sign to a major agency (IMG Models). He is an advocate for the deaf-trans community, and has shared his life story openly with the hopes of aiding others. Man portrayed deaf superhero Jericho in DC’s Titans.

Lea T (Leandra Medeiros Cerezo): Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

“Lea T” became the first openly trans face of Givenchy in 2010, and the first openly trans face of Redken in 2014. She remains a muse to former Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci. She has posed for French Vogue and LOVE.

Hunter Schafer: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

A model with an exhaustive resume that includes Dior and Erdem, Schafer has also forayed into acting. She plays Jules opposite Zendaya in the critically-acclaimed HBO series Euphoria.

Indya Moore: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Like Schafer, Moore has expanded beyond her high-end fashion career into the world of acting. They now star as Angel Evangelista in Pose. Moore has modeled for Gucci and Dior, and posed for Vogue España. They are the first openly trans person to have posed for the cover of Elle.

Laith Ashley: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

Ashley also starred in Pose, a show that has cast the most transgender actors in lead roles of any scripted series ever. Ashley modeled in a viral Calvin Klein underwear campaign, and has walked runways for numerous top designers. He is also a recording musician.

Ines Rau: Instagram | Wikipedia | Agency

The first out trans woman to appear as Playboy’s Playmate centerfold, Rau has modeled for major labels like Balmain, and has posed for Vogue Italia.

UMC Dismantling Racism

United Methodist Church leaders will launch a plan of action to galvanize church members and others to actively stand against racism in the wake of the death of George Floyd and protests across the U.S.

The “Dismantling Racism: Pressing on to Freedom” initiative is a multi-level effort throughout the church to initiate a sustained and coordinated effort to dismantle racism and promote collective action to work toward racial justice. The church-wide effort will kick off on June 19, 2020, to coincide with Juneteenth, the commemoration of the end of slavery in the U.S. An announcement from members of the United Methodist Council of Bishops will be broadcast at 11:00 am CT on UMC.org/EndRacism and Facebook.

Participating in the event will be Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey of the Louisiana Episcopal Area, president of the Council of Bishops and the first Hispanic woman to hold that post, Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi of the Pittsburgh Episcopal Area, Bishop Bruce Ough of the Dakotas-Minnesota Episcopal Area, Bishop Gregory Palmer of the Ohio West Episcopal Area, and Bishop Thomas Bickerton of the New York Episcopal Area.

“Words are great, words are important – but action is really important,” said Bishop Harvey. “Pick up your pen, pick up your voice, pick up your feet, and do something.”

A day of prayer and worship will follow on June 24, 2020, with an online service to be broadcast at noon CT on UMC.org/EndRacism and Facebook. There will also be a denominational virtual town hall event on July 1.

Regional and local worship events and town hall meetings involving community partners will subsequently take place, either online or in keeping with social distancing protocols.

United Methodist Communications has launched a national advertising campaign on social media and news websites across the U.S., as well as digital billboards in Atlanta, Minneapolis, Houston, and Louisville. The ads direct viewers to a website, UMC.org/EndRacism, where they can find resources to help them learn more and take action.

The United Methodist Council of Bishops has asked all United Methodists to join in prayer at 8:46 a.m. and p.m. for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the time the officer held his knee on George Floyd’s neck, for at least the next 30 days.

Advocacy and worship resources will seek to equip leaders, members, and the public to join in this important racial relations work. To encourage wide participation, a variety of materials will be made available in English, Korean, Spanish, French, and Portuguese translations.

The denomination has a long-standing history of advocating for justice. The Social Principlesof The United Methodist Church recognize racism as a sin and commit to challenging unjust systems of power and access. Additional information and resources are available online at UMC.org/EndRacism.
