Champion × The Renewal Workshop

Champion® Athleticwear Partners with The Renewal Workshop to Give Consumers Additional Eco-Friendly Apparel Choices.

Brand launches new collection that expands responsibly made products and supports “Be Your Own Champion” campaign

As part of its global “Be Your Own Champion” campaign, Champion Athleticwear today announced that it has launched Champion Renewed in partnership with The Renewal Workshop – a company that renews apparel that would have otherwise gone into landfill.

The partnership helps extend the lifespan of the brand’s apparel and reduce waste, while supporting the “Be Your Own Champion” campaign inspired by Champion’s consumers – who care as much about how they play the game as the end result. It also articulates the brand’s commitment to designing stylish, athletic apparel and footwear that enables everyone to be a champion by confidently expressing themselves … and feel good while doing it.

The exclusive, Champion Renewed line features the brand’s iconic Reverse Weave® sweatshirts renewed by The Renewal Workshop. The collection ranges from $30-$45 (40% off the original MSRP) and is available at Here.

“To us, ‘Be Your Own Champion’ means encouraging consumers to do things the right way and do them with heart – both on and off the field,” said Jon Ram, group president of global activewear for HanesBrands. “Extending the life of apparel that would have likely ended up in landfill is part of that effort, and it gives our consumers yet another reason to be proud to wear our brand.”

The Renewal Workshop uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to measure the impact of the textile fibers most frequently received, such as cotton, polyester and wool. Using this data, in addition to each garment’s weight, the organization can evaluate energy savings, greenhouse gas reductions, and water consumption decreases, among other things, for each item that is renewed. The Renewal Workshop then sorts, grades, thoroughly sanitizes the products using state-of-the-art waterless technology and repairs them to like-new standards. Once inspected and verified to joint quality standards, they are given a Renewal Workshop tag and made available for purchase.

“We’re thrilled to have Champion join our growing list of brands, and we’re eager to support the brand in its larger efforts to salvage apparel, giving clothing a chance for a second life,” said Nicole Bassett, co-founder, The Renewal Workshop. “By having a brand as iconic as Champion begin the process with us, we’re encouraged that others within the industry will soon follow suit.”

The partnership between Champion and The Renewal Workshop is part of the brand’s promise to increase the use of responsibly made fabrics and find ways to creatively reuse products to reduce energy use and water consumption during the manufacturing process. As part of the HanesBrands family, Champion’s efforts support the company’s 2025-2030 global sustainability goals, which include all of its brands having a fully circular product or significant circularity initiative by 2025.

Champion has already made significant progress reaching ongoing sustainability goals, including offering classic jersey tees made with 100% U.S. cotton, which is traceable and some of the most responsibly produced fiber in the world; introducing two environmentally conscious collections, Natural State and Rally Pro Earth, in 2021; and manufacturing “Game Day” sweats using 95% recycled polyester fibers, as well as other Sports category apparel with a significant percentage of recycled polyester fiber.

Champion Athleticwear × New Artist Series

Champion Athleticwear Unveils New Artist Series Supporting Talent Across The Country

Series Features Four Artists, each with a Collection Defined by Authentic, Inspired, Grassroots Voices

Champion Athleticwear, makers of authentic athletic apparel since 1919, is introducing an Artist Series to celebrate the diversity of talent and creativity found across the United States.  The series features four street artists who have unique perspectives on design, fashion and personal expression. The artists have ties to cities across the country, including New York City, Chicago and Seattle.

The first drop is from Ricardo Gonzalez, a designer and artist from Durango, Mexico, currently based in Brooklyn, New York, who lives by the philosophy, “IT’S A LIVING,” which inspires his work. Ricardo uses typography as his medium and has incorporated his signature script into a variety of work spanning large-scale murals to commercial work for brands to simple stickers seen on the streets.   As part of the collection drop, Champion commissioned Ricardo to create one of his signature murals in Brooklyn, New York.

Ricardo’s vibrant, colorful script style will appear on a limited collection of Reverse Weave hoodies, heritage graphic tees and Reverse Weave cut-off shorts for men and Reverse Weave cropped cutoff hoodies, heritage graphic tees and Reverse Weave shorts for women. The apparel has black, oxford gray, white and scarlet colors supporting neon text overlay of phrases including “Better Yourself,” “Keep Tryin’,” “The Way Up” and “Change The Future.”  Ricardo hopes his signature positive messages and uplifting designs unify people together during these challenging times.

“As an artist and designer, it means so much to me to collaborate with Champion on an inclusive collection that promotes my positive aesthetic to the masses,” said Ricardo Gonzalez.  “The phrases we chose for this collection fit really well with Champion’s philosophy. My favorite piece is “Better Yourself,” as it expresses self-improvement and what it means to be competitive as a Champion.  I hope when people wear my Champion pieces that they feel empowered and like a Champion.”

Apparel in Ricardo’s It’s A Living collection ranges from $35 to $75 in sizes XS through 2XL and will be in Champion retail stores and online at Champion.com, Champs Sports and Footaction beginning May 12, 2021. Each Artist Series drop will be available for a limited time with Brooklyn-based neon artist Adam Fu, up next in the series. Fu will be followed later this year by New York-based Steffi Lynn and Chicago-based Merlot.

“Champion is founded on the principles of inclusion, creativity and self-expression,” said Jon Ram, group president of global activewear for Hanesbrands Inc. “and we are dedicated to fostering up-and-coming talent. The Artist Series is an exciting new chapter in our commitment to supporting a wide range of artists with the goal of inspiring all consumers to be their own Champion through their apparel – the ultimate form of self-expression.”

Ram added that Champion is committed to creating a better world for the champions of today and tomorrow where all are included.  The Artist Series adds a new dimension to the brand, which is known for increasing access to sports in a number of ways, including providing apparel and uniforms to Special Olympics USA, Urban Dove and NBPA Summer Camps.

FIRST U.S. CHAMPION STORE × LA

CHAMPION® ATHLETICWEAR OPENS FIRST U.S. RETAIL STORE IN LOS ANGELES

The Iconic Brand Blends the Heart of a Champion and City Culture with New Retail Venture in California

Champion Athleticwear, makers of authentic athletic apparel since 1919, is bringing the brand to life in a unique and genuine way with its first U.S. store opening in Los Angeles, California, at 123 South La Brea Avenue.

Opening its first American specialty retail location in one of the city’s top shopping destinations, Champion selected Los Angeles’ flourishing La Brea District to plant its retail flag in an area comprised of dozens of trendsetting stores and brands. The first 500 customers to shop at the grand opening on Saturday, April 7 will receive a limited edition canvas tote bag with exclusive art designed by Stella Blu, a local artist.

“The global sphere of influence in Los Angeles with regard to fashion, art, sports and entertainment culture make it the perfect place for Champion to bring its iconic heritage and product stories to life,” said Susan Hennike, President Champion Athleticwear. “In today’s retail landscape, it’s vital to create a direct connection with our consumers. The need to provide a seamless customer experience across all channels makes this exactly the right time and place for Champion to launch this exciting retail concept in the United States.”

The Champion store will feature onsite customization, allowing shoppers to design one-of-a-kind Champion garments made on-demand and tailored to their specific preferences. Additionally, there will be a number of specialized product assortments only available in the Los Angeles store and frequent product drops will take place from the company’s global lines. Regional collections inspired by the Southern California area in which the store resides will also be available and will include exclusive styles, colors and partnerships with local influencers.

“The store will showcase not only our iconic pieces, such as Reverse Weave®, but also our heritage and key moments in time, further illustrating our brand’s unique identity,” said David Robertson, Director Champion Brand Marketing. “We truly believe in our mantra that ‘it takes a little more to make a Champion’ and we’ve transformed this concept into a reality with this store.”

With the launch of the first U.S. store, Champion has developed a retail concept that is true to the brand, the consumer and the local community to tell one holistic story. The store’s design is inspired by Champion’s incredible sportswear heritage but interpreted in a modern way, mirroring how the brand continuously reinvents its classic and iconic products.

Through imagery, product displays and merchandising, Champion is able to bring its key icons like Reverse Weave to life in a new way. Key materials used throughout the store give a nod to the brand’s authentic American athleticwear positioning, which includes reclaimed basketball court hardwoods, gym lockers and metal mesh (like the mesh fabric Champion pioneered).

Situated in the heart of La Brea, the store creates a space for shoppers to visit when looking for iconic styles, simple classics or bold designs, all curated and merchandised by Champion for a one of a kind experience.
