Syncing Gut with Mind for Better Mood
Mood is a complex physiological experience. It is the result of the intermingling of neurochemistry, gut health, hormonal balance, and social/psychological experience. It is a moment-by-moment litmus test of how much your life is in alignment with the needs of your body, mind, and spirit.
The greater internal harmony you have, the better your mood. Conversely, the greater internal disharmony within, the worse your mood.
Mood Influencers
We tend to think external circumstances determine our mood. But in reality, our internal harmony determines how we perceive, interpret and respond to our external circumstances. There are many things that can lend to a bad mood:
- Stress (day-to-day, global news, etc.);
- Poor diet;
- Isolation from community or family; and
- Not allowing the mind to rejuvenate through meditation.
However, one of the most important aspects of mood in Ayurveda medicine is the way in which food and gut health impact mental health. Mind and gut are inseparable. The foods you eat and the strength of your digestion determine the quality of your thoughts and mind.
Modern medicine is just beginning to grasp this concept of the relationship between the gut and brain. According to Ayurveda, the gut and brain are one functional unit. The fastest way to shift mood is by changing diet, improving gut health, and shifting your microbiome.
Improve a SAD Mood
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a clinically diagnosed form of depression that begins in the fall, continues into the winter and then typically resolves in the spring and summer. It is a condition that I didn’t pay enough attention to as a general neurologist, but as an Ayurvedic practitioner I became much more attuned to the impact of the seasons on our mood. I found that the majority of us notice some shift in mood with each season, and some of us experience more severe changes that qualify as SAD.
Modern treatments for SAD include phototherapy and antidepressants. Although SAD is a modern medical diagnosis, this shift in mood due to the changes in season is a well-documented psychological phenomenon in Ayurveda, spanning back thousands of years. So, in addition to the modern therapies for SAD, we also have access to ancient Ayurvedic treatments that help to treat SAD today and prevent it in the future.
Know Your Dosha
One of the great blessings of Ayurveda is the knowledge of the doshas and how they manifest in ourselves and in the seasons; this makes life more predictable. Once we understand our seasonal susceptibilities, conditions like SAD do not have to overtake us. We can organize our seasonal routine to combat the underlying causes of SAD before they germinate. It’s like having a GPS system for our body and mind that informs us of the turns before we have to take them. Instead of feeling like we’re always behind the eight-ball, wondering why we feel tired, depressed, anxious or frustrated, we can predict what potential pitfalls each season may hold for us and avert the danger before we ever face it.
You can learn more about your dosha type with my free quiz HERE. To experience more benefits of Ayurveda start with understanding your dosha type.

LONDON ELECTRIC VEHICLE COMPANY
There are now more LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) TX electric taxis on the streets of London than diesel TX4s, as the capital’s transition to a clean, green EV black cab fleet continues to accelerate.
Highlighting the transition away from fossil fuel, LEVC’s TX taxi – the world’s most advanced electric taxi – now represents more than 40% of official black cabs, with over 6,000 vehicles operating in the capital.
As sales continue to increase, so does the positive contribution LEVC’s TX is making to air quality. Powered by its revolutionary eCity technology, LEVC’s electric TX taxi has traveled more than 534 million miles globally and prevented 162,000 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere, since it was introduced in 2018.
Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC, commented: “We are witnessing a significant tipping point in the push towards cleaner transportation, with the TX overtaking the diesel-powered TX4 as the cab of choice in London. There are now more than 6,000 TX electric taxis operating in the capital, accounting for over 40% of the black cab fleet.
“Since LEVC launched the revolutionary TX taxi, it has successfully delivered an unrivalled sustainable mobility solution, perfectly suited for urban environments. With each new TX on the road, we are preventing thousands of tonnes of harmful emissions, helping to create healthier and happier cities.”
Helen Chapman, Transport for London’s Director of Licensing and Regulation, said: “It is great to see that almost half of the entire taxi fleet is now zero emissions capable and there are now more LEVC TX taxis than any model of diesel black cabs in the capital. Alongside reductions to emissions these modern vehicles deliver a really comfortable experience for both driver and passenger.
“London’s taxi drivers are rightfully proud to be at the vanguard of cleaning up the city’s toxic air. The step change in the taxi fleet moving to zero emissions capable is an important part of the bold action the Mayor is taking to deal with the public health crisis that is being caused by deadly pollution, and for tackling the climate emergency.”
The TX taxi is an accessible and inclusive vehicle for all, regardless of age or disability. Featuring flexible space for up to six passengers, the vehicle includes an integrated wheelchair ramp enabling the TX to accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair – the only taxi of its kind to do so.
LEVC has recently announced a new brand strategy to become a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company. LEVC’s new direction will see it grow beyond manufacturing the world’s most advanced taxi, the TX, and commit to delivering smart, green, safe, and accessible mobility solutions to more people than ever before.

UNDERCOVER UNDERAGE on DISCOVERY+
ID’S UNDERCOVER UNDERAGE RETURNS FOR A SECOND SEASON WITH ROO POWELL TAKING DANGEROUS CHILD PREDATORS OFF THE STREETS.
– Season 2 of UNDERCOVER UNDERAGE premieres on Monday, May 1 at 9/8c on ID –
Every day, countless minors are exploited, groomed, and abused in person and online. Enter Roo Powell and her team at the nonprofit SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse), who work in tandem with law enforcement to apprehend child predators by becoming the targets. After a successful first season resulting in four convictions of sexual predators, ID shows SOSA multiplying that number in Season 2 of UNDERCOVER UNDERAGE as the SOSA team relocates to embed with the sheriff’s office in Canadian County, Oklahoma and deploys three new underage decoys. As the team launches the fictitious online accounts for a 15, 14 and even a 12-year-old persona, it’s a race against the clock to identify the ACMs (adults contacting minors) and build a case against the alleged predators to enable law enforcement to make an arrest before the perpetrators can victimize other children. With 16 arrests featured this season, the pressure is palpable over the course of eight explosive and intense all-new episodes. Season 2 of UNDERCOVER UNDERAGE premieres on Monday, May 1 at 9/8c on ID, streaming the same day on discovery+.
Returning this season alongside Roo are social media lead Shelby Chikazawa and photographer and visuals lead Matt Monath. New to this season is SOSA’s director of communications, Jordan Pérez, as well as various team members in support roles for research and evidence. The entire team works directly in conjunction with Canadian County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) led by Major Adam Flowers, who oversees its ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force, and Sheriff Chris West. Multiple adult decoys are deployed this season with Roo’s guidance including the 12-year-old “Abby,” 14-year-old “Mackenzie,” and 15-year-old “Skylar.” As these young women engage with the ACMs online via their decoy personas, Roo guides them as they process and absorb the impact of the lewd actions and disturbing words intended for actual minors.
Building off the tremendous work of last season, Roo and the team at SOSA continue to carefully craft back stories, social media profiles and photos to help the fictitious decoys transform into teens and tweens and together they work to engage with the alleged online predators to identify them for law enforcement. Once the ACMs engage with the underage decoys, the team communicates with the ACMs via texts, calls and even distressing video chats to gather pieces of information about their real identities. Every adult that contacts the teenage decoys is distinctly told from the outset that they are speaking to an underage girl and is given the opportunity to cease communication at any point. For those who choose to proceed with explicit exchanges with a supposed minor, the team mobilizes quickly to put a name to the offender. Then, once the team at SOSA has enough information for a positive identification, they turn over their findings to law enforcement to make the arrest and get an alleged predator off the streets.

EENK FW23
For 2023 Fall/Winter, EENK presents X for the letter X, a collection dedicated to the territory of the unknown and undefinable. X is the alphabet that represents the unknown in mathematics, the unfamiliar in society, and strange new crossovers in culture.
The collection is a departure from the borders of the old world, and lands in an adventurous territory of obscure boundaries and reconstructed identities.
The rules of gender and time are ambiguous here, where basic items are deconstructed and reconstructed into a sophisticated mystery that keeps you guessing. How many layers? Is it a skirt or are they trousers? Classical check patterns are chopped up and interweaved with Art Deco prints, paintbrush strokes and written words of contemporary literature. Fittingly for its Letter Project roots, EENK adventures into uncharted territory for the letter X.
A huge sculpture from the Korean artist Osang Kwon, internationally known for his provocative 3D sculptures made with 2D images will be present on the runway to share EENK‘s twisted, dark and unmistakably modern vision of X.

Ski Big Air
Ski Big Air: Monster Energy’s Troy Podmilsak Claims Men’s World Championship Title.
In the Men’s Ski Big Air discipline, 18-year-old Troy Podmilsak (TPOD) from Park City, Utah, claimed the victory. Currently riding for the Monster Army support program, the Team USA skier also landed a never-been-done trick in competition.
In the final session featuring ten qualified riders, Podmilsak stunned the competition despite qualifying into the final in last place. On his first attempt, he pulled out a technical switch right double bio 1980 safety to start off on a strong 91.25-point score.
Maintaining his strong momentum, Podmilsak went where no other went before: Landing the first-ever right triple cork 2160 mute in a ski competition earning 95.50 points as the highest score of the day. With a combined total score of 187.75 points, the American rookie claimed the Bakuriani 2023 Men’s Ski Big Air gold medal.
“I actually did not think I would be world champion here. I thought maybe a few years down the road. It feels good, and I’m really proud of myself and my team. I can’t even really believe it. It almost feels like a dream to me. We worked really hard for this,” said Podmilsak upon winning the Men’s Ski Big Air title in Georgia.
Speaking on the never-been-done 2160 aerial, Podmilsak said: “That was the first time I’ve ever done it! I did it on the airbag a few times and didn’t really land it. I just went for the win today. I didn’t” want to get second place. I just wanted to win. That’s the first time I’ve ever really landed it, ever.”
Podmilsak was joined on the podium by 22-year-old Birk Ruud from Oslo, Norway, in the bronze-medal position. Ruud has earned podium finishes in every FIS Freeski competition in the 2022/23 season, and kept the streak going on Saturday.
In his first run, Ruud put down a perfect switch left triple cork 1980 mute grab. On his second run, he followed up with a left double bio 1800 mute for a combined score of 183.50 points for the bronze medal, just one point behind Austria’s Lukas Muellauer in second place.
Earlier this week, Ruud ended a dominant FIS World Cup season by winning the Men’s Freeski Slopestyle World Championship title at Bakuriani. In 2022, Ruud won the gold medal in Men’s Ski Big Air at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Also claiming a podium spot, 21-year-old Megan Oldham from Canada claimed bronze in Women’s Ski Big Air. Oldham was coming in hot after landing the first-ever women’s triple cork aerial to win X Games Big Air gold at X Games Aspen 2023 in January.
On her first attempt, Oldham stomped a perfect left double cork 1080 mute. Keeping the tricks coming, she posted a switch left double cork 1080 Japan on run two, and Oldham took home bronze.
This third-place finish is the second medal of the Bakuriani 2023 World Championships for Oldham after her Slopestyle silver medal. It also marks the third World Championships medal of her career.

LEIPZIG
Since 2022/2023, Leipzig, the seventh-most populous city in Germany with more than 600,000 residents, is a destination worth seeing! In the state of Saxony, it is the city with the highest population. Leipzig is encircled by water, parks, and floodplain forest. Thanks to its numerous bike paths and its extensive system of small rivers and canals, it is easy to get around the green city on foot, by bike, by boat or canoe – alternatively, there is a complex public bus and tram network.

Base Camp
When we arrived, we immediately checked into Felix Suiten. Undisputed accommodation, carrying loft like suites that felt like a spacious home. With massive windows and a kitchenette, it was my chance to catch up on some cooking. Our room was right in front of the city center, which was loaded with shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.

With the giant Ferris wheel just outside our third-floor window, we were charmed by the chatter and loud laughter. And if it didn’t offer us the excitement, the music from the fourth floor lounge in tandem with the restaurant aroma prompted us to join the party. Regardless of the frigid temperatures of late December, we spotted several on bicycles, traveling by taxi and/or tram. In fact, much of the crowd seemed physically fit while they drank hot apple cider and swallowed delicious fingerfoods.
The Art Scene

Leipzig is recognized for its exceptional art and fascinating outdoor recreation environment. It is often referred to as a city of vibrant trade, business, and music. 360 Magazine’s guided visit of Spinnerei offered a glance at this dynamic art scene. Spinnerei, formerly the largest cotton mill of continental Europe, is now home to galleries, exhibition halls, and artist studios. Since its decommissioning in 1992, the factory has been subject to constant change. Artists have developed the cotton mill into a real cosmos of art. Meanwhile, about 100 of them have their own studios at the Spinnerei, along with 11 galleries and the non-profit space Halle 14. A key figure of the so-called “New Leipzig School” is artist Neo Rauch, who was one of the first to set up his studio there.

Robyn Chamberlain is a virtuous goldsmith and handweaver. She completed a bachelor’s degree in jewelry design at NSCAD in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon graduation in 2012, this Canadian artisan decided to relocate to Germany.
As of late, Robyn was mentioned on 360’s Most Interesting listing.

The Karl-Liebknecht-Straße offers a distinct opportunity to interact with many different trends found in Leipzig’s Southern District. The street is one of the best known in Leipzig, and it is reminiscent of early squatter scenes and club culture. The street is accompanied by many bars and pubs, as well as outdoor seating areas, usually used throughout the summer months.

Life in Leipzig
Leipzig is quite special, both in terms of commerce and industry, as well as in terms of music, culture, and history. There are several colleges, universities and research centers in this city, which allows for a very diversified city. The University of Leipzig is the second-oldest university in Germany with a founding date of 1409.
According to an interview between Dana Marschner and our president, Lowery, Mrs. Marschner stated that her favorite aspect of Leipzig was the close proximity of just about everything. She continued by highlighting the constant transformation of the city that never stands still, spreading good vibes and offering a high quality of your stay!

Leipzig uses environmental zone badges as part of its effort to improve its environmental footprint. A green badge is required for all drivers to enter Leipzig. Only drivers of motor vehicles with a low level of air pollution are permitted entry. Drivers who don’t comply with this condition are fined. This enhances the impact of their environmental footprint in Leipzig. Whether looking to embrace a wide variety of cultures, continue studies at a prestigious institution or wanting explore a new way of life; Leipzig has it all.
