An Ottawa trio of brothers—Jig Dubé [bass, lead vocals], Liam Dubé [lead guitar] and Quinn Dubé [drums, backup vocals]—proudly live up to their chosen name on their self-titled LAVA debut. “ZIG MENTALITY means being ready to adapt and grow,” exclaims Jig. “A zig is a sharp change in direction, so we’re willing to keep an open mind and break rules. That goes for the fact that we’re playing rock music our own way. If you come to one of our shows, there are mosh pits, stage diving, and crowd surfing, we want young people to benefit from the vibe we offer.” As kids in the Canadian capital, the boys grew up surrounded by instruments, obsessed with music, they began busking throughout Montreal and Toronto. By middle school, they hosted parking lot performances before and after OSHEAGA Music and Arts Festival, Ottawa Blues Fest, and Bonnaroo. It wasn’t long before residents started calling cops to shut down their outdoor rock shows. The brothers moved the shows indoors, to the homes of their friends and hosted parties of their own. These gigs became the stuff of local lore and established them as hometown heroes. During 2019, they inked a deal with LAVA and hit the studio with producers Sacha Skarbek and Florian Reutter, recording in Orange Lounge Toronto and their own basement. Culling equal inspiration from Queens of the Stone Age as well as Kendrick Lamar and Rage Against The Machine, they emphasized live bass at the forefront, breaking from tradition even further. In the end, ZIG MENTALITY embodies what punk has always been about but with a sound belonging in the 21st century.

In conjunction with the new capsule, a “Break the Monotony Block Party” will be held on May 9, via Instagram Live as a dedication to celebrate the music, style and community of The Fresh Prince. The event will feature 60-minute live sets from several of the biggest DJs in the world (across all genres), including DJ D-Nice, Just Blaze, DJ Clark Kent, Bryan-Michael Cox, Neil Armstrong, Crespo, Dede Lovelace, Four Color Zack, Noodles, Mick, Pope, Craze, Venus X, DJ Puffy, Kayper, Bash, Andrea Vandall and a headlining set by DJ Jazzy Jeff. The block party name is inspired by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince’s lyrics in their 1991 smash hit “Summertime.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff’s MC – Dayne Jordan – will host the block party via Instagram while each DJ goes live from their individual IG handles, plays music and pays homage to the Fresh Prince. In some instances, multiple DJs will perform at the same time, which will give fans a festival-like experience that will enable them to choose which DJ set to watch.

As part of the “Break the Monotony Block Party,” a percentage of sales from the new collection’s sales on May 9 will be donated to No Kid Hungry, which is helping provide consistent access to healthy meals for vulnerable children who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting school closures.

“It’s humbling to see how The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and our music has transcended time and continued to shape pop culture,” said DJ Jazzy Jeff, who collaborated on the development of the new capsule. “Between this new collection and the block party, I hope we can come together during these trying times, celebrate culture, put smiles on people’s faces and raise money for an important cause.”

The “Fresh Prince / Summertime” collection boasts a bright, neon palette with its prints drawing from the distinguished imagery from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Fans of the TV series will also appreciate the nod to some of the imagery from the show’s opening credits with the collection’s graffiti pattern and “Fresh” license plate pieces.

Spice Island Beach Resort – November 2020 Reopening

SPICE ISLAND BEACH RESORT, GRENADA EYES NOVEMBER 2020 REOPENING

The team at Spice Island Beach Resort has been carefully monitoring local, regional and international developments related to the COVID 19 pandemic, and verily believes that the resort can play an integral role in the economic recovery of Grenada and more specifically the hospitality sector. The team continues to prepare steadfastly in order to be fully operational for a tentative reopening on 01st November, 2020.

The Spice Island Beach Resort’s first priority is the health and safety of its staff and guests and therefore will be working with all the guidelines of the local and international health officials regarding COVID 19, particularly all the protocols required for restaurants and hotels along with the accompanying amenities and services.

“The management and staff will make the necessary adjustments to the resort’s operations in order to adapt to the new normal that will be required once travel and social restrictions have been eased by the Government of Grenada,” said Janelle Hopkin, president and managing director of the resort.

“We will be back and we can hardly wait to welcome our new and returning guests,” said Hopkin. “Just the thought of their smiling faces and creating memorable experiences for them, keeps us going,” she added.

Hopkin outlined her current plans for the resort, highlighting the on-going enhancements which commenced two years ago. “There’s a lot more work to be done to take us to the next level and that is what we will be using this time to achieve,” she noted.

The newly appointed President and Managing Director of the resort, who succeeded her late father Sir Royston Hopkin KCMG, says, “we still have a lot going for us and my intention is to complete the work my dad began by sticking to the master plan he unveiled in 2018 and rolling out a new and improved resort for 2021.” The resort’s reservations team will be available Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m., through the resort’s telephone +1-473-444-4258 and reservations email reservations@spicebeachresort.com will continue to be active. Jhene Aiko’s CHILOMBO debuted at #1 on the Billboard R&B album charts with the biggest debut from a female R&B artist since Beyonce’s Lemonade.  The biggest R&B album of 2020 finds new life with a deluxe version dropping 5/22. CHILOMBO proclaims the artist’s full name, Jhené Aiko Efuru CHILOMBO, as it celebrates her coming into her own personal power.  The initial jam sessions where she freestyled the lyrics to each song, took place on The Big Island of Hawaii where Jhené’s great grandmother was born. Jhené was inspired by the beauty and power of the island’s volcanoes, having visited throughout the years. Chilombo means wild beast. The volcano is symbolic of the beautiful, yet powerful beast. Jhené Aiko is Chilombo.
