Anna Sofia – Either Way

On the song Anna Sofia said: “I wrote this song as a note to someone I really care for. They have been struggling with body image issues and have always been very self-conscious. I wanted to find a way to really get through to them and let them know how I feel about them -to let them know that I love them no matter what they look like.”

In addition, this release is the first time Sofia and her producer Jeff Hazin were able to work with Jeff Kleinman (Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs, Beyoncé). On working with Hazin Sofia said: “Working with Jeff Kleinman was huge for Jeff Hazin and I. Jeff K was a super amazing person to work with and it was pretty crazy to even get the chance to be in a studio with him. He has worked with some of my favorite artists from Frank Ocean to Beyoncé, so to be able to work with someone that I look up to is so unreal to me and I’m so thankful for the opportunity.”

The song adds to the accolades Anna Sofia received from her debut SelfAware Bitch EP which received critical acclaim from Ones To Watch, Affinity Magazine, That Buzzing Sound and more and accumulated over 3 million cumulative streams. In addition, she released the official music video for the song’s title track “Self Aware Bitch” which shows Anna tackling dodgeball try-outs and school drama with a twist ending. The project was primarily produced by rising producer Jeff Hazin with Grammy® nominated producer Frank Dukes (Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Post Malone) lending his talents to the song “Self Aware Bitch.” A triad of successful singles set the stage for the six-song EP. On the heels of “Meaner Girl” and “I Try,” she closed out 2019 with the buzzing “No Fun.” Streamed nearly half-a-million times on Spotify, OnesToWatch claimed, “The charming single is a pleasant introducer to her forthcoming EP, Self Aware Bitch” and dubbed it “an impactful introverted anthem.”

Contagiously confident and irresistibly melodic, Anna Sofia asserts herself as a powerful presence in 2020. 16-year-old Toronto singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist ANNA SOFIA threads together narrative pop with the scope of a classic nineties teen flick and the unpredictability of 21st century genre-bending. Through a pure perspective only an insider could possess, Anna Sofia chronicles these moments and so much more in her music. Streamed over 3 million times independently as of 2019 and acclaimed by Ones To Watch, Lyrical Lemonade, and Complex who dubbed her, “a prodigious new talent,” she places listeners in the front row of her world on the introductory 2020 EP, Self Aware Bitch [Electric Feel/Republic Records], and her forthcoming full-length debut.

Orville Peck x Shania Twain

Columbia Records is proud to announce Show Pony, the eagerly awaited EP from country artist and songwriter Orville Peck. The self-produced 6 track EP is an evolution of Peck’s debut album Pony, which was released in March 2019, and features all new songs including a duet with reigning Queen of Country Pop and Global Icon Shania Twain, as well as a cover of Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy”. Show Pony will be available globally on June 12th; pre-order here.

Says Peck, “I loved my experience with Pony. However, Show Pony is a more confident perspective and allows me to share even more both lyrically and musically. Like all country albums, Show Pony is a little collection of stories – some sad, some happy – and I am excited for people to hear it. Working with Shania was a dream come true, her music made me feel empowered as a kid and was a huge influence on me.”

Peck celebrates the news of Show Pony with the release of a new track and video, “No Glory in the West”. Directed by Isaiah Seret with narrative and creative direction by Peck and his creative director Carlos Santolalla, the video finds Orville and his horse traversing across a darkened, frozen landscape. The miles are endless, the nights are longer than the days and the silence hangs heavy. Listen to the song here and watch the video here.

Prior to “No Glory in the West” Peck released the Show Pony track “Summertime”. Whereas “Summertime” explores hope and the belief of perseverance and patience, “No Glory in the West” examines how exhausting that can be. Listen to “Summertime” here and watch the video here.

The video combines animated clips and video of Trippie Redd with old videos of Juice WRLD and his girlfriend, Ally Lotti, who is also shown singing along to the lyrics. It ends with the title cards “In loving memory of Jarad ‘Juice WRLD” Higgins'” and “Legends never die.” Speaking on the video, Cole Bennett said “I included footage and aspects from all of mine and Juice’s videos. Rebelution – “Attention Span Dub”

Grammy-nominated reggae/rock band Rebelution have launched “Attention Span Dub,” the first single from their album Dub Collection, which will be released on July 17.

The original version appeared on the band’s debut album Courage To Grow. The dub album, a joint venture between the band’s 87 Music and Easy Star Records, features 15 dub versions of fan favorites and five songs will be released on consecutive Fridays through June 26 with each track representing a different album from throughout their effervescent career. The band’s lead touring guitarist, Kyle Ahern, was given the reins to mix these tracks, and he has delivered a release that will have Rebelution fans grooving in their homes and reminiscing about past shows, all while looking forward to what’s to come.

Dub is a unique form of reggae that remixes existing tracks, focusing heavily on dropping instrumentation and vocals in and out, while layering them with effects like reverb and delay. “We thought about putting out a dub version of our last album, and then realized this would be a better idea,” says singer, guitarist, and lyricist Eric Rachmany. “There’s so many of our old songs that deserve a dub version. We know our fans love the early Rebelution material, so this seemed appropriate.” Kyle Ahern’s approach, while steeped in the history of the genre, is more modern than some dub purists. “He was the perfect candidate to produce the album, because he understands both the Rebelution sound and dub music,” says Eric. “We’re so excited for people to hear it, because it’s a celebration of six albums and the Rebelution community being behind us for over 15 years.”

Duckwrth Releases New Anthem

Critically acclaimed Los Angeles rapper Duckwrth releases his new feel-good anthem “Find A Way” feat. Alex Mali and Radio Ahlee today.

Listen to “Find A Way” feat. Alex Mali and Radio Ahlee: HERE

“In this journey we call life, us as humans will inevitably fall off the path. Sometimes due to forces outside of our control. But we always find our way. This is the theme song to Our Comeback. Let’s Find A Way,” says Duckwrth on the track.

The South Central sonic insurgent delivers a global anthem powered by pulsating analog synths, organic tribal percussion, nimble rhymes, and a soaring refrain. The combination of percussive stomps and soulful choruses immediately energizes creating an uplifting, upbeat, and undeniable track.

Over the last five years, LA-based wunderkind Duckwrth has quickly risen up the ranks as a promising star of the future of music. His collection of critically acclaimed projects including Nowhere (2015,) I’m Uugly (2016), Xtra Uugly (2017) and The Falling Man EP (2019), have transcended streaming platforms and landed in films, TV series, and brand ad campaigns and have received critical acclaim from a vast amount of outlets including NPR, The FADER, Complex, XXL and more. This cumulation has led the rapper to become an international touring staple, headlining shows globally, and performing at Austin City Limits and opening for superstars Billie Eilish and Anderson Paak. Duckwrth’s music has appeared on shows like CW’s All American, HBO’s Insecure and Real Time with Bill Maher, and his song “Start A Riot” was featured on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack. His music has appeared in campaigns for the likes of Cadillac, Microsoft, Peloton, Amazon, and Apple Music, and he’s worked with fashion legacies like Levi’s, Vans and Fila, as well as high fashion men’s suit designer Paul Smith.

Landon Cube – “Groceries”

22-year-old singer-songwriter Landon Cube releases his new track “Groceries” feat. Lil Keed today.

On the track, Landon Cube weaves together his signature nimble rhymes over glassy synths and a steady beat. He carries an echoing hook that proves impossible to shake as Young Thug’s YSL Records’ phenomenon Lil Keed pops up with a slick cameo of his own to deliver another banger.

There’s a poignant yet feel-good vibe that makes 22-year-old recording artist Landon Cube’s sound infectious. The Southern Maryland native has a diverse history within music, punctuated by his versatile catalog. At 16, he made the firm decision that music was his chosen trajectory and once he graduated high school, he dropped his introductory cut “Euphoria.” His participation with local viral video crew Cufboys added fuel to the fire, as Landon began galvanizing a fan base through his laid-back authenticity and knack for melding sounds. Through Cufboys he met burgeoning star Lil Skies, as the two joined forces on cuts like “Red Roses” and “Nowadays.” It wasn’t long before Landon was Los Angeles bound and continued his upward mobility as an artist, ultimately joining the Republic Records roster. Landon Cube, who already has nearly 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, has already secured a solid following based upon his honest and heartfelt music, and the next phase in his career will bring more of that to the forefront.

COVID-19’s Impact on Film

The Coronavirus outbreak disrupted film production as well as major film and entertainment events all over the world, ranging from major studio theatrical releases to film festivals. In a new interview with C.M. Rubin, Founder of CMRubinWorld, BFI London Film Festival Director Tricia Tuttle says it’s “an incredibly tough time for the film industry and it will get worse before it gets better.”

Tuttle believes that festivals will remain relevant but notes that festivals “will have to adapt to new ways of working” and find “better ways to support producers.”

She shares 4 predictions for the future of film and film festivals;

1.  More experimentation in partnerships between indie distributors and exhibitors.

2.  Increasingly cautious distributor spending on theatrical campaigns, more innovation.

3.  Greater partnership working between film festivals.

4.  We will see innovation and experimentation on Virtual Festival models (digital screening elements added to film festivals in addition to live).

San Miguel De Allende Reactivation

San Miguel de Allende, a city known as the “Heart of Mexico” and located in the Bajio region, will enter Phase 0 of its Covid-19 Reactivation plan — activation of the local economy for the local residents — starting June 1.

During this initial phase of the plan, San Miguel will see most of the business infrastructure that affects local residents reopen, including restaurants, shopping centers, markets, public transportation, offices, and more. At this point, hotels, bars, cantinas, clubs, public or hotel pools will not yet reopen. All residents are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and apply extensive hygiene practices. Businesses will be required to implement international-grade sanitation protocols, including shoe-cleaning, a decrease in interior foot traffic, set-up of dispensers of antibacterial sanitizer containing 70% alcohol, provision of face masks for people without them and hourly disinfecting of public spaces.  At no point can any groups gather inside or outside public spaces.

Access to San Miguel de Allende has been closed since March to non-residents, with city police filtering all its entrances (Querétaro, Celaya-Comonfort, Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo, and Dr. Mora). Those permitted to enter must not show symptoms of Covid-19 and be essential to the needs of the recovery phase the city is currently in.

San Miguel de Allende’s Mayor, Luis Alberto Villarreal García, clarified that San Miguel de Allende is not open to tourism. Phase 0 will reopen restaurants, operating at 50% capacity, and markets, at 30% capacity, for residents only.

“We still haven’t opened the doors to our visitors,” said Mayor Villarreal García. “San Miguel is not opening to tourism, not yet; We will do it gradually. Gradually and responsibly, as the number of infections marks us.”

Reinforcing the Mayor’s stance, San Miguel de Allende’s City Council has passed an ordinance stating that guest properties cannot push bookings on digital platforms until the city enters Phase 3. If they do so, said the mayor, they are putting public health at risk.

During this current Phase, businesses are asked to obtain their “Health First” certification, which the city launched on May 25. The certification accredits compliance with sanitary protocols for reopening. Hotels (which may start reopening as Phase 1), golf courses, activity centers, cultural spaces (which may open on Phase 3), must apply for the certificate HERE. Businesses will have to complete a series of paperwork and training sessions and have local health and safety officials evaluate each location for certification as an establishment that puts the health and safety of its patrons first. Certification is “free but mandatory,” stressed Mayor Villarreal García.

While recognizing the commitment of the people of San Miguel to safe recovery, the Mayor stressed that the beginning of Phase 0 does not imply a return to daily life as it was before. Rather, it is a different approach with attention to health care to avoid starting a lockdown again. “If we do it right in this first stage, we will be able to open other shops gradually,” Villarreal García said.

Aminé Releases New Single

AMINÉ RELEASES NEW SINGLE: “RIRI” FOLLOWING “SHIMMY” VIDEO ATTENTION + 5X RIAA CERTIFIED PLATINUM “CAROLINE” SMASH HIT

“…amiable, inventive and idiosyncratic, one of the year’s most intriguing….” — NY TIMES

Today, multiplatinum hip-hop multihyphenate Aminé shares a new single entitled “Riri” showcasing his own verses and vocals alongside a closing skit with writer/comedian Jak Knight from ABC’s Black-ish fame; ahead of forthcoming official music visual arriving on Monday, self-directed in quarantine. The Portland-based rapper, artist, director, culture shaker and innovative ingenue brings dynamics and depth to “Riri”, which heralds the arrival of his anxiously awaited sophomore project and you can listen to here.

Earlier this year, Aminé continued on his promise to change perceptions and defy expectations with “Shimmy” paying homage to his past, while declaring 2020 as his. Accompanied by a co-directed music video love letter to Portland, the song garnered 20 Million streams globally and the gamut of fanfare which you can watch here. In addition to looks from Rolling Stone, Complex, and more, HYPEBEAST claimed, “The song is doused in a scratchy ‘90s-inspired beat, laced with sampled bits from O.D.B., soulful vocal harmonies, trickling sitar notes and crisp drum loops reminiscent of the raw and bare sounds that dominated much of hip-hop in the Golden Age.”

“In the visual… we see the Portland rapper whipping around with his
boys, scaling a mountain, and driving a boat, as he praises the past
while looking to the future.” -COMPLEX

“…the whole thing looks like a love letter to Portland…” -EATER

Continuing to expand his influence, 5x platinum certified artist for mega-smash “Caroline” recently appeared on HBO’s Insecure this month. Artists who move culture forward create their own. Aminé’s debut LP, “Good For You” did just that for Portland’s music scene, hip-hop and the culture at large — buoyed by his 5x platinum RIAA certified breakout smash “Caroline,” “REDMERCEDES,” and “Wedding Crashers” feat. Offset. The album which displayed mosaic influence from his parents’ Ethiopian heritage to trailblazers like Kanye West and André 3000, made an instantly indelible impact — scoring a RIAA gold certification, millions of singles streams, Spotify #1s, and 21 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs Chart, peaking at #11. Aminé further solidified himself as a force of nature between explosive festival sets (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza) and show-stopping late nights (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers). Maintaining this momentum, while owning his subdued profile and preference for an AirBNB wilderness cabin over a posh studio for recording, Aminé released his self-described 2018 EP/LP/MIXTAPE/ALBUM “ONEPOINTFIVE” which you can listen to here.
