DAN MULLEN × ESPN

ESPN has signed former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen as a college football studio analyst, contributing every Saturday on ESPN2 in addition to ESPN studio wraps on Thursday and Friday nights. Mullen joins anchor Kevin Connors, who is beginning his fourth season on the ESPN2 desk, and analyst Sam Acho returning on the regular ESPN2 studio crew.

Mullen boasts nearly three decades of coaching experience, including 13 as a head coach. He spent nine years at the helm of Mississippi State and a combined eight years at the University of Florida, first as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and returning to Gainesville as head coach from 2018-21. Mullen has joined ESPN and SEC Network throughout the past few years as a guest analyst, including at last year’s SEC Championship Game, as well as the past two College Football Playoff National Championships.

Connors’ wide-ranging studio assignments include regular editions of SportsCenter, college football and basketball wraps, as well as Major League Baseball. He has handled play-by-play for college basketball and MLB games on ESPN as well. Acho is back for his second season with ESPN and will also serve as a booth analyst for select college football games this fall.

ESPN Trio of Barrie, Galloway and Palmer Prepare for 2022-23 Season, Palmer Signs New Deal
SportsCenter anchor Matt Barrie enters his fourth season as host of ESPN’s Saturday college football studio coverage, continuing to work alongside analysts Joey Galloway and Jesse Palmer, who ESPN just signed to a multi-year contract extension. Barrie will also call ESPN Thursday night games this season with Louis Riddick and Harry Lyles Jr.

Galloway, now in his 12th season with ESPN, and Palmer, who joined ESPN in 2007 and also hosts ABC’s The Bachelor, continue their prominent studio roles. The former Ohio State All-American wide receiver and Florida quarterback, respectively, will contribute analysis to marquee ESPN college football programming throughout the season. In addition to their traditional studio wraps, Barrie, Galloway and Palmer will also close out each Saturday with College Football Final, highlighting the day in college football.

Negandhi and McFarland Team Up on ABC
Longtime host Kevin Negandhi and college football and NFL analyst Booger McFarland will team up for their third straight season in studio together, wrapping up Saturday action on ABC for the 2022-23 campaign. McFarland and Negandhi also worked together on ABC wraps during the 2017 season.

Beyond college football, McFarland contributes to studio programming across ESPN networks, including Get UpSportsCenter, the annual NFL Draft presentation and Super Bowl week. The two-time Super Bowl champion is a regular cast member on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdownwhich recently announced its new lineup. Negandhi has anchored ABC’s college football studio coverage since 2017, and also hosts ESPN’s coverage of the Special Olympic World Games, the 6 p.m. ET SportsCenter and more.

Wendi Nix Returns as Host of ESPN’s College Football Live
Wendi Nix is back this fall as host of College Football Live, joined by a rotation of college football analysts throughout the season. Nix continues to host NFL Rewind, the Monday afternoon highlights show that recaps all of Sunday’s NFL games. Jen Lada will also host Friday editions of College Football Live from campus sites as part of her role on College GameDay Built by The Home Depot.

NCAA Division I Tournament Ratings

South Carolina‘s wire-to-wire victory in the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship scored 4.85 million viewers Sunday night to become the most-watched women’s title game since 2004, and the fourth-largest audience to watch a women’s championship game since ESPN began exclusively airing the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament in 1996.

The 4.85 million viewers tuning in across ESPN networks Sunday was the most-watched cable program of the day, an audience increase of 18% year-over-year and 30% from 2019. The matchup peaked from 10-10:15 p.m. ET with 5.91 million viewers across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, as South Carolina captured its second national title during ESPN’s MegaCast presentation.

“ESPN’s commitment to women’s basketball has never been stronger and this year’s viewership numbers are a clear indication of the growing popularity of the sport and the NCAA Women’s Tournament,” said Nick Dawson, ESPN vice president of programming and acquisitions. “Since ESPN began exclusively televising this event more than two decades ago, we have consistently strived to raise the bar in our presentation, and we are particularly gratified by our expanded coverage and the introduction of new elements like the MegaCast this year. We look forward to working with the NCAA to further enhance our presentation in the years ahead.”

Women’s Final Four Most-Watched Final Four in a Decade

The 2022 NCAA Women’s Final Four is the most-watched Final Four weekend since 2012, averaging 3.46 million viewers. The audience for the trio of games throughout the weekend was up 20% from 2021.

The National Semifinals scored 2.7 million average viewers, up 21% year-over-year and the most-viewed semifinals in a decade. Connecticut and Stanford‘s showdown registered 3.23 million viewers, up 19% from 2021 and 49% from 2019—the most-watched women’s semifinal game since 2012 (Stanford vs. Baylor). The matchup was the second-most-watched cable program of the day and most-watched overall among the coveted P18-49 demo. Louisville vs. South Carolina recorded 2.16 million viewers, up 27% and 43% from 2019, registering the most-watched audience of an early semifinal game since 2016 (Connecticut vs. Oregon State).

2022 NCAA Tournament Viewership Up Double Digits

The full NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament averaged 634,000 viewers per game, up 16% from last year’s coverage. The total hours of consumption were up 6% year-over-year, with viewers devouring 74.6 million hours of content across ESPN platforms, roughly 4.1 million more hours compared to 2021.

The 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament experienced several additional viewership milestones throughout, including:

  • The most-consumed early rounds on record
  • The most-watched early round window in more than 10 years
  • The most-watched Sweet 16 game on cable since 2017
  • The most-watched Elite Eight round in more than 10 years
  • The most-watched Elite Eight game in more than 10 years

CFP Championship’s High Viewership

The 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship was one for the record books, as Georgia secured its first national title since 1980. The viewership of ESPN’s MegaCast presentation reflected the excitement surrounding the Alabama-Georgia showdown, with 22.6 million viewers tuning in across ESPN networks.

The Dawgs‘ thrilling 33-18 victory over the SEC Champion Crimson Tide was up 19 percent from last year’s national championship contest between Alabama and Ohio State. The matchup peaked with 25.4 million viewers.

The Circle City Showdown is the top event on cable since the 2020 LSU/Clemson national championship game and the most-viewed non-NFL sporting event during that span on any network. In fact, the top five non-NFL sports events during that time have been CFP Semifinal and Championship games.

The main ESPN telecast of Monday night’s showcase is the second-most-viewed non-NFL telecast (sports or non-sports) on a single network since February 2020. ESPN’s presentation of the action from Indianapolis is the most-watched TWDC telecast since the 2021 NFL Wild Card Game.

The share of TV viewers tuned in to this year’s CFP National Championship on ESPN networks was the best on record in the CFP era. 29 percent of people and 38 percent of adults 18-49 watching television Monday night were tuned in to the CFP National Championship.

Streaming Creates MegaCast Magic

Across all ESPN3/ESPN App exclusive feeds, streaming minutes were up 33 percent over 2020. Outside of the linear telecasts, Alabama’s Hometown Radio MegaCast was the most-streamed feed for both uniques and minutes. The Alabama and Georgia Hometown Radio MegaCast viewing options saw substantial year-over-year gains across AMA (up 75 percent), uniques (up 30 percent), minutes (up 85 percent), starts (up 20 percent), and minutes/viewer (up 35 percent).

Putting A Bow on Bowl Season

Bowl Season delivered in the 2021-22 season, with 29 of 31 non-NY6 bowls this season surpassing one million viewers. Eighteen bowls drew more than two million viewers and nine topped three million. The 31 non-NY6 bowl games registered 2.6 million viewers across ESPN networks, up 12 percent year-over-year. On ESPN, bowl games recorded 2.5 million viewers per game, up 24 percent from 2020 and slightly up from 2019. Of the 27 bowls with a viewership comparison to 2019, 10 had their best audience since at least 2017 and seven had their best since at least 2015.

Across the regular season and postseason, ESPN networks delivered the four most-viewed games of the 2021-22 season (CFP National Championship, both CFP Semifinals, and The Rose Bowl Game) and 59 of the top 100 games overall. ESPN networks were responsible for 62 percent of live game college football minutes viewed this season across all nationally measured linear networks.

NY Six’s High Viewership Record

The 2021 New Year’s Six delivered viewership records and multi-year audience highs from Dec. 30 – Jan. 1. This year’s New Year’s Six finished up double digits year-over-year, averaging 12.7 million viewers, and every bowl of the 2021 New Year’s Six surpassed 7.5 million viewers for just the third time of the CFP era. The non-Semifinal New Year’s Six bowls averaged nearly 11 million viewers, ranking third out of the eight years of the CFP.

Across both of ESPN’s MegaCast presentations, the College Football Playoff Semifinals averaged 16.9 million viewers, on par with 2015’s Year 2, the last time the semifinals were on a weekday New Year’s Eve. The share of TV viewers tuned in to this year’s CFP Semifinals on ESPN networks (25.9) was the best since Year 1 (2014) of the CFP era.

The College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl between Georgia and Michigan netted 17.2 million viewers, peaking with 20.5 million viewers early in the action. The late Semifinal is the most-viewed non-NFL sporting event across any network and top telecast across ABC and ESPN networks since last year’s CFP National Championship game. The top four non-NFL sporting events of 2021 were CFP Semifinal and National Championship games.

The College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic between Cincinnati and Alabama scored 16.6 million viewers, a 6% gain from Year 2’s early Semifinal (2015 Oklahoma/Clemson). Despite the scoring margin, the audience peaked at 18.2 million viewers late in the game.

Rest of New Year’s Six Notches Ratings Records

The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Capital One Venture X registered 16.6 million viewers, the second-most-viewed non-Semifinal New Year’s Six bowl game of the CFP era (2019 Washington/Ohio State, 16.9 million viewers). The audience tuning in to No. 11 Utah and No. 6 Ohio State peaked at 19.7 million viewers over the game’s closing minutes.

The CFP Semifinals and the Rose Bowl Game are the top three games of the college football season.

Additional New Year’s Six Highlights

  • The Allstate Sugar Bowl between No. 7 Baylor and No. 8 Ole Miss averaged 9.8 million viewers, peaking early in the action with 13.6 million viewers.
  • The PlayStation Fiesta Bowl between No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 5 Notre Dame registered 8.0 million viewers, up nearly 20 percent from the 2020 Fiesta Bowl. The audience peaked with 14.3 million viewers in the final moments.
  • The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl recorded 7.6 million viewers, up more than 25 percent from the past two standalone weekday primetime games (31% – 2020 Cotton Bowl; 26% – 2019 Orange Bowl). The action from Atlanta peaked with 8.7 million viewers in the final 10 minutes of play between Pittsburgh and Michigan State.
  • The 2021 New Year’s Six finished on par with the 2019 season.

Additional Holiday Week Highlights

  • The TransPerfect Music City Bowl recorded 5.6 million viewers, the most-viewed non-New Year’s Six Bowl this season, and the third-most-viewed non-New Year’s Six bowl game in the past six seasons. The matchup between Tennessee and Purdue was the most-watched Music City Bowl since 2010, and the audience peaked with 8.9 million viewers in the final 15 minutes.
  • The SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl featuring Wisconsin and Arizona State registered 3.7 million viewers, up from the last two Las Vegas Bowls that both aired on ABC
  • The Duke’s Mayo Bowl, highlighted by the clash of the Carolinas and a victory mayo bath, netted 2.6 million viewers to start the morning on Thursday, Dec. 30.

Across Thursday’s four bowl games, ESPN averaged 4.9 million viewers.

College Football Viewership Hits New Heights

Michigan at Penn State Tops Week 11 College Football Viewership, ABC’s Most-Watched November Saturday Since 2016

ESPN networks secured a strong Saturday showing in Week 11, as ABC/ESPN registered multi-year viewership highs and several marquee matchups set the stage for a primetime sweep.

ESPN leaned into a strong Big Ten doubleheader and a top 15 matchup in the SEC to deliver its most-viewed week of the year. Overall, viewers watched 5.3 billion minutes of live games on Saturday, making it the most-watched day of the college football season across ESPN networks. ESPN platforms were responsible for 64% of the minutes watched in Week 11 and aired four of the top six most-watched games on Saturday.

Michigan at Penn State (noon ET, ABC) was the most-viewed game of Week 11 across all networks with 5,942,000 viewers. It ranks as ABC’s most-viewed noon or afternoon game of the season and fifth-best game overall. The audience for Wolverines-Nittany Lions peaked with 8.7 million viewers as Michigan edged Penn State for the win.

ABC’s B1G Saturday aided the network in airing its most-viewed November Saturday of games since 2016. The 3:30 p.m. matchup of Purdue and Ohio State recorded 4,739,000 viewers on ABC, ESPN networks’ most-viewed game in the afternoon window since Week 1. Across the trio of matchups, ABC averaged 4,701,000 viewers, its most-viewed tripleheader since Week 1 and most-watched November Saturday since Nov. 26, 2016.

ESPN/ABC Reign Supreme in Primetime

Texas A&M at Ole Miss (3.5 million viewers, ESPN) and Notre Dame at Virginia (3.3 million viewers, ABC) helped ESPN and ABC rank as the top two networks in primetime among all viewers and all key male and adult demos for a second consecutive week. In the average minute, 7.6 million viewers and 2.4 million P18-49 viewers were watching college football on ESPN networks from 8-11 p.m.

CFB Viewership Continues to Experience Exponential Year-Over-Year Growth

For the second straight week, viewership across ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 is up at least double digits from Week 11 in 2020 and 2019. ABC aired its most-viewed Week 11 since 2016 and was up 13 percent from the same week in 2020 and 20 percent from 2019. ESPN was up more than 50 percent from both 2020 (50 percent) and 2019 (57 percent), while ESPN2 was up 91 percent from the same week in 2020 and up 32 percent from 2019. ABC and ESPN both posted audiences above their season averages.

Additional Viewership Highlights:

  • Washington State at Oregon (1,991,000 viewers, ESPN): Most-viewed game starting after 10 p.m. on any network since Sept. 8, 2018 (Michigan State-Arizona State)
  • North Carolina at Pittsburgh (1,213,000 viewers, ESPN): ESPN’s second-best Thursday game this year
  • Kansas at Texas (487,000 viewers, ESPNU): Most-viewed game of the year on ESPNU. Kansas has now participated in the top game on ESPNU in 2021, the second-most-watched game on ESPN2 and third-ranked noon/afternoon game on ESPN

College GameDay’s Return Trip to The Grove Garners Second-Best Viewership of 2021

College GameDay Built by The Home Depot‘s trip to The Grove at Ole Miss registered 1,962,000 viewers, making it GameDay’s second-most-watched telecast of the season. College GameDay remains tops among Saturday morning college football pregame shows, and 2,460,000 viewers tuned in for the final hour. The show is up 44 percent from 2020’s Week 11 show, which was GameDay‘s once-in-a-lifetime telecast from The Masters.

LSU × Alabama Record Ratings

ESPN networks had one of their strongest overall weekends of the 2021 college football season, as ESPN and ESPN2 both aired their most-watched games in years during Week 10. Fueling the year-over-year growth were two compelling Southeastern Conference showdowns – LSU and Alabama on ESPN, and Tennessee at Kentucky on ESPN2. Overall, ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 were all up significantly from Week 10 in both 2019 and 2020.

The most-watched game of the weekend on ESPN networks was LSU at Alabama (7 p.m. ET, ESPN), averaging 5 million viewers – the most-viewed college football game on cable this year. The primetime presentation was the top game in Week 10 among key male and adult demos (18-34, 18-49, 25-54). The audience was up 18 percent from the same matchup in 2020 and peaked with 6 million viewers from 10-10:15 p.m. in the final minutes of the game.

Tennessee at Kentucky (7 p.m., ESPN2) averaged 1.5 million viewers, ESPN2’s most-viewed game in more than three years (Auburn at Mississippi State, Oct. 6, 2018). ESPN2 also registered a strong showing with Friday night’s Virginia Tech at Boston College matchup (7:30 p.m., ESPN2), notching 1.2 million viewers. Season-to-date, ESPN and ESPN2 are well ahead of the pack as the top two most-viewed college football cable networks, with ESPN2 up 20 percent from 2019 and up 97 percent from 2020.

ABC’s top game on Saturday was Purdue’s upset of Big Ten rival Michigan State (3:30 p.m.), which scored 4.4 million viewers and was the top game of the late afternoon window.

ESPN Networks Own Saturday Primetime
In the average minute, 9 million viewers and 2.8 million P18-49 viewers were watching college football on ESPN networks. The audience peaked with nearly 10 million viewers from 8:15-8:30 p.m. ESPN networks had the top two college football games in primetime, and ESPN and ABC ranked as the top 2 networks from 8-11 p.m. among all viewers. Among P18-49 viewers, ESPN, ABC and ESPN2 ranked as three of the top four networks in primetime Saturday.

CFB Viewership Sees Exponential Year-Over-Year Growth
Viewership across ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 is up at least double digits from Week 10 in 2020 and 2019. ABC aired its most-viewed Week 10 since 2016 and was up 59 percent from the same week in 2020 and 13 percent from 2019. ESPN was up triple digits from both 2020 (136 percent) and 2019 (103 percent), while ESPN2 had above-average audiences in nearly every window and was up 135 percent from the same week in 2020 and up 27 percent from 2019.

Crucial Conference Clashes Take Center Stage on ESPN Networks, 15 Ranked Teams and Nearly 50 Games Highlight ESPN’s Week 11 College Football Schedule

Week 11 of the 2021 college football season features 15 of the CFP Top 25 – including three matchups with ranked teams on both sides of the ball – in action on ESPN networks. In total, nearly 50 games are slated for ESPN platforms, with every game available on the ESPN App.

ESPN’s Saturday primetime game features a big SEC West battle, as No. 14 Texas A&M takes on No. 16 Ole Miss in Oxford. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Radio, with Chris FowlerKirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe on TV, and Marc Kestecher and Ben Hartsock announcing the action on ESPN Radio. The Aggies-Rebels showdown will be supplemented by the AT&T 5G SkyCast and the Great Clips Command Center on ESPN3 and the ESPN App. The game will be amplified by ESPN’s College GameDay Built by The Home Depot from The Grove on Saturday morning (9am – noon, ESPN & ESPNU).

A trio of top-10 teams are set for the spotlight on ABC in Week 11. A B1G Saturday kicks off ABC afternoon action, with a quartet of Big Ten teams scheduled for conference contests. Penn State hosts No. 7 Michigan at noon, with Sean McDonoughDan Orlovsky and Molly McGrath on the call. At 3:30 p.m., Purdue looks to knock off fifth-ranked Ohio State, with Joe TessitoreGreg McElroy and Katie George commentating from Columbus.

ABC’s Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One features No. 10 Notre Dame on the road against Virginia. The primetime presentation is set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC and ESPN Radio, with Dave Pasch, Dusty Dvoracek and Tom Luginbill on ABC and Sean Kelley, Barrett Jones and Ian Fitzsimmons on the ESPN Radio call from Charlottesville.

In addition to the seventh-ranked Wolverines, several ranked squads are slated for noon kickoffs on Saturday. On ESPN, another SEC West showdown is set between No. 17 Mississippi State and No. 13 Auburn. Bob Wischusen, Jordan Rodgers and Kris Budden are announcing the action from The Plains. On ESPN2, No. 21 Wisconsin hosts Big Ten foe Northwestern featuring Clay MatvickRocky Boiman and Tiffany Blackmon on the mic. On SEC Network, second-ranked Alabama welcomes New Mexico State to T-Town, with Taylor ZarzourMatt Stinchcomb and Alyssa Lang calling the Aggies-Crimson Tide contest.

In primetime on ESPN2, No. 18 Kentucky visits Vanderbilt Stadium to face the Dores at 7pm, with Anish ShroffMike Golic Jr. and Taylor McGregor on the call. ACC Network is home to the third ranked vs. ranked matchup of the day on ESPN networks, as No. 9 Wake Forest plays host to in-state ACC rival NC State. The 19th-ranked Wolfpack are set to take on the Demon Deacons at 7:30pm, with Dave O’BrienTim Hasselbeck and Kelsey Riggs announcing the ACC action.

ESPN’s robust schedule of ranked games kicks off Thursday with No. 25 Pittsburgh hosting North Carolina. Matt BarrieRoddy Jones and Katie George will be on the ESPN call at 7:30 p.m. Friday night features a primetime battle between No. 6 Cincinnati and American rival South Florida on ESPN2. Set for 6pm, Jason BenettiAndre Ware and Paul Carcaterra will be providing commentary. College Football Playoff Top 25 Revealed on Tuesday at State Farm Champions Classic

In a college football season filled with upsets and thrillers, ESPN will exclusively reveal the second week of the College Football Playoff Top 25 with the College Football Playoff Top 25 Ranking Show Presented by Goodyear on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at approximately 9 p.m. between State Farm Champions Classic men’s college basketball games. Rece Davis will host the show live from New York City, joined by college football analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Joey Galloway and David Pollack.

College Football on ESPN+

ESPN+ features 50 college football games this week, including action from the SEC, American, Conference USA and Sun Belt. Highlights from this week’s ESPN+ college football original programming include:

  • Eli’s Places– The season finale, Episode 10: “Big Manning on Campus,” debuted last week. Eli Manning returns to The University of Mississippi and joins his father and Ole Miss all-time great, Archie Manning, to reminisce and have his college jersey retired.
  • Our Time: UCF Football– Available to stream now on ESPN+, Episode 8: “Tough Love” looks at offensive line coach Herb Hand — despite his demand for perfection, he cares more about his guys than what they can do on the field. New episodes debut every Thursday throughout the season.
  • SMU Football: The Hilltop– “Trick or Treat,” the ninth episode of SMU Football: The Hilltop, debuted last week. New episodes of The Hilltopwill be available to stream every Thursday during the season.

Paolo Uggetti × ESPN

Paolo Uggetti, one of the nation’s most talented young sports journalists, has joined ESPN as a college football writer.

Uggetti has covered the NBA nationally for The Ringer for the past five years, writing features on everything from Devin Booker’s Mexican heritage to players’ mental health in the bubble, to tracking down the KIA that Blake Griffin dunked over in the 2011 dunk contest.

Uggetti also interned with The Wall Street Journal sports department, where he discovered the kinds of stories he loves to write — niche, sometimes quirky, but always human.

Uggetti is proudly from El Salvador but moved to Los Angeles when he was nine years old, falling in love with other sports besides fútbol. Uggetti is fluent in his native Spanish and graduated from USC in 2017. There, he covered the Trojans football team for two seasons and won two LA Press Club awards for stories he wrote for the student-run online publication.

Week 5 of college football across ESPN networks boasts a baker’s dozen of ranked squads in action, including three of the top four featured in this week’s AP Top 25. Highlighting the schedule this week is an all-SEC tripleheader on ESPN, featuring No. 2 Georgia, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 10 Florida and No. 22 Auburn.

At noon ET, the eighth-ranked Razorbacks head between the hedges to battle the second-ranked Bulldogs featuring Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe on the call, with the AT&T SkyCast available on ESPN3 and the ESPN App. ESPN’s College GameDay Built by The Home Depot pregame show arrives in Athens on Saturday morning (9 a.m. – noon).

At 6 p.m., the No. 10 Gators look to Lexington and a matchup with undefeated Kentucky as Bob Wischusen, Dan Orlovsky and Kris Budden announce the action. At 9 p.m., No. 22 Auburn is set for a showdown with SEC West foe, LSU. The Tigers vs. Tigers tussle is set for both ESPN and ESPN Radio, with Joe Tessitore, Greg McElroy and Katie George live on ESPN and Sean Kelley, Barrett Jones and Ian Fitzsimmons on the radio call in Baton Rouge. Auburn-LSU features a SkyCast viewing option on ESPN3 and the ESPN App.

It’s an action-packed Saturday on ABC with a trio of games set for the spotlight. ABC’s Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One features a Big Ten battle between Indiana at No. 4 Penn State at 7:30 p.m. ET, with SkyCast and the Great Clips Command Center available on ESPN3 and the ESPN App. Sean McDonough, Todd Blackledge and Molly McGrath are on the TV call, with Marc Kestecher and Ben Hartsock live on ESPN Radio.

Pac-12 action is set for mid-afternoon on ABC, as Dave Flemming, Rod Gilmore and Stormy Buonantony call No. 3 Oregon at Stanford at 3:30 p.m. Gilmore returns to his alma mater where he was a two-sport athlete in football and baseball for the Cardinal. At noon, a Lone Star State showdown looms between Texas and TCU, as Dave Pasch, Dusty Dvoracek and Tom Luginbill kick off the day’s action on ABC.

On ESPN2, 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III calls his first game featuring his alma mater, as the No. 21 Baylor Bears take on Big 12 rival Oklahoma State. The 7 p.m. matchup between Baylor and the 19th-ranked Cowboys is this week’s 4K Game of the Week.

Also in primetime, No. 15 Texas A&M hosts Mississippi State at 7 p.m. on SEC Network, with the SEC Saturday Night trio of Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic on the call. At 7:30 p.m., Boston College looks to keep their unbeaten streak going against No. 25 Clemson on ACC Primetime Football, as Dave O’Brien, Tim Hasselbeck – a former Eagles quarterback – and Kelsey Riggs announce the action.

Finally, Saturday’s slate concludes with a matchup of undefeated teams in the Big Sky as Montana (3-0) travels to Eastern Washington (4-0). Clay Matvick, Rocky Boiman and Tiffany Blackmon have the call at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

ABC and ESPN continued to see multi-year viewership highs in Week 3 of the season, highlighted by Saturday night’s primetime matchup between then-No. 22 Auburn and then-No. 10 Penn State.

ABC’s Saturday Night Football Presented by Capital One averaged 7,606,000 viewers, the second-most-watched Week 3 game across all networks and fifth-best game of the year. ABC has aired three of the top five most-watched games of the year, and only once in the past decade (2016) have five games surpassed the 7.5 million viewers mark in the first three weeks of the season. The 7.6 million viewers is one of the five best September game audiences on ABC since the start of the 2018 season.

The matchup between the Tigers and the Nittany Lions peaked from 10:45 – 11 p.m. ET with 8.9 million viewers in the closing minutes of the game. This was the most-viewed Week 3 game on ABC since 2011 and the audience was up more than 100% from Saturday Night Football in 2020’s Week 3 (Miami/Louisville) and Week 3 in 2019 (Clemson/Syracuse). Driven by this game, ABC for the day was up +43 percent from 2019’s Week 3.

ESPN networks once again owned primetime as the top two networks among all key male and adult demos from 8 – 11 p.m. During that window, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU had a combined average minute audience of 10.7 million viewers.

Across the entire sport, 9.4 billion minutes were watched across all networks, up +12% from Week 2 and the most-viewed Week 3 since 2016.

ESPN Boasts Top Two Games on Cable in Week 3
ESPN notched the top two games on cable for Week 3, including South Carolina/Georgia (2,548,000 viewers) in primetime on Saturday, and Friday night’s UCF/Louisville matchup (1,881,000), which was up +8 percent from the 2019 Friday doubleheader (North Carolina/Wake Forest and Washington State/Houston).

College GameDay Built by The Home Depot Has Banner Day

ESPN’s College GameDay Built by The Home Depot (9 a.m. – noon) had a high-powered weekend in Happy Valley, with the three-hour show averaging 1,910,000 viewers, which ranks as the most-viewed College GameDay since Rivalry Week in 2019. The audience was up +84 percent from Week 3 in 2020 (Louisville) and +7 percent from Week 3 in 2019 (Ames).

Saturday’s show ranks as the best Week 3 airing of the show since 2016 and the final hour (11 a.m. – noon) averaged 2,425,500 viewers, the best final hour since the 2019 season.
