Automobiles Partner to Develop New Light Tactical Concept Vehicle – Jeep Gladiator XMT



Leading manufacturer of light tactical vehicles, AM General, together with the Jeep Brand of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), today introduced a new light tactical concept vehicle at the Annual Meeting and Exposition of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA). The Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck (XMT) by AM General is the first phase of a collaboration that reunites two companies whose histories trace back to World War II. In creating the Jeep Gladiator XMT, AM General leveraged the Gladiator’s class-leading capabilities and customized the truck to meet global customers’ needs for a light-weight military truck.


“We are extremely excited to partner with FCA and introduce the Jeep Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck at AUSA,” said AM General President and CEO, Andy Hove. “This new venture gives us an opportunity to showcase our expertise in light tactical vehicles and help FCA maximize the Gladiator’s global reach and potentially enter new military markets.”


AM General identified the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator – the most capable midsize truck ever, with 7,650 pounds of towing capacity and up to 1,600 pounds of payload capacity – as the ideal platform on which to develop the Extreme Military-Grade concept vehicle.
“The Jeep brand has an important military heritage, so we couldn’t be happier that AM General expressed interest in creating the Gladiator XMT,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – North America. “The all-new Jeep Gladiator boasts unmatched functionality, versatility and especially capability – including two advanced 4×4 systems, locking differentials, skid plates, tow hooks, and incredible approach, breakover and departure angles – the perfect foundation for this ultra-capable military concept vehicle.”

Based on its over 100 years of experience in the defense industry and deep knowledge of the global military landscape, AM General identified a series of parts and accessories that amplify the Jeep Gladiator’s leading off-road maneuverability and enhance the Gladiator’s capability to provide its end users with the appropriate equipment for tactical communications and service. The Jeep Gladiator XMT has been upfitted by AM General with both custom-built and commercially available military-grade parts to create an even more rugged truck that can traverse the toughest of terrains in adverse conditions and is ready to meet varied military customer requirements.


As with the iconic, proven and versatile Humvee, AM General can also apply its manufacturing and engineering expertise to convert the Gladiator XMT into mission-specific and purposeful light-weight tactical trucks based on customer requirements. Whether the need is to have a rugged personnel transport carrier or a command and control truck, the company has demonstrated through the Enhanced Tactical Kit (ETK) offerings on Humvee, its ability to deliver solutions that are customer-driven, and cost-effective.
Pending feedback and interest in the military marketplace, production could begin in the second half of 2020. In addition to the gas model, Gladiator XMT would be offered to military customers as a diesel version.

JA Manafaru Resort Team Cleans Up Nearby Island

in Support of Parley Maldives Initiative

JA Manafaru Resort in the Maldives collaborated with local partners, guests and the community to undertake a plastic removal and sustainability initiative on a neighboring island

JA Manafaru Maldives recently collaborated with a local school and their ocean activity partner, Best Dives Private Limited, to collect more than 23 jumbo bags of waste from a neighboring island and Marine Protected Area; Gallandhoo for recycling through Parley Maldives. 

Parley Maldives is the Maldives branch of Parley for the Oceans, a global collaboration network with a new approach to environmentalism. The mission of Parley is to end today’s major ocean threats through creativity, collaboration and eco-innovation. The private island resort of JA Manafaru itself is spectacularly beautiful and unspoilt, sitting in the crystal-clear waters of the most northern point of the Haa Alifu Atoll. Although the ocean and beach areas surrounding the award-winning resort are pristine examples awe-inspiring nature, other islands in the Maldives have issues with waste, particularly non- biodegradable materials like plastic.  

Best Dives Maldives, a local diving, excursion and ocean activity company partnered with the JA Manafaru Resort and a local school – Hoarafushi School, to undertake a monumental task in cleaning up the western coastline of Marine Protected Area (MPA), Gallandhoo. The JA Manafaru Environmental & Sustainability team planned the clean-up with Best Dives, informed guests and arranged resort boats to collect volunteers heading to the island to clean the area. Together more than 50 staff, guests, students and parents filled over 23 jumbo bags of waste in one hour. Marine biologists asserted that Gallandhoo Island looked strikingly different after the team efforts and considerable potential damage to marine life was averted. All the plastic waste collected will be sent to Parley.

To address the fast-growing threat of marine plastic pollution, Parley have devised a strategy that can be scaled across private households, schools, businesses and governments: Parley AIR — Avoid, Intercept, Redesign. Guided by these pillars, they advocate avoiding the use of single-use plastics and promoting responsible disposal of single-use plastics. The goal in the Maldives is to boost the protection of the marine ecosystem through collective change. In collaboration with plastic interception partners, Parley has now exported 48 containers of plastic waste from the Maldives, preventing over 800 tons of plastics from entering the oceans. These plastics are recycled and upcycled to help create a new economy of eco-innovation and collaboration, beginning with reducing the use of raw virgin plastics in production processes.

School students and guests were presented with certificates of appreciation for their participation in the JA Manafaru event, and when asked why there was such an issue with plastic waste on Gallandhoo, the students explained there are low levels of understanding for many people regarding the disposal of plastic waste and of the environmental damage it causes. New General Manager, Karen Merrick commented;

In order to preserve the coral reef, beautiful beaches and sea life, the JA Manafaru team has an ongoing commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability. The hotel no longer uses plastic bottles for drinking water and instead have their own glass bottling plant, which results in a huge reduction in plastic waste. The JA Manafaru ‘House Reef Cleaning’ also invites guests to give back in a fun snorkelling and underwater reef-cleaning exercise, which certified divers can join. All items collected are logged so that any notable pollution can be immediately addressed. Other initiatives in planning at JA Manafaru include upgrading the water desalination plant for residual water to be used for landscaping, solar panel installation and a campaign for associates that raises awareness about reducing energy consumption.

Last night, the David Lynch Foundation’s Silence The Violence concert dazzled audiences at Washington D.C.’s The Anthem. The star-studded benefit saw Katy Perry, Mavis Staples, Norah Jones, and many more come together in order raise the funds needed to bring the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique to 10,000 at-risk youth in Washington, D.C. through THEARCPRESS HERE to download photos from the Silence The Violence benefit.

Kicking off the evening, singer-songwriter Jeremy Elliot performed his debut solo track “The Deep End” before DavidLynchFoundation CEO and renowned TM teacher BobRoth, News4 Today anchor EunYang, and THEARC CEO RahsaanBernard addressed the crowd (which included Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner) and led them in a minute of silent mindfulness.


NorahJones captivated audiences with a stunning set that included “JustA Little Bit,” a cover of Neil Young’s “Don’t Be Denied,” “I’ve Got To See You Again,” and “Don’t Know Why.” Her set was followed by a soulful rendition of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me” by the Celebration Gospel Choir. Bringing the audience to their feet, gospel and R&B icon Mavis Staples took the stage to a standing ovation and treated concert-goers to four songs supported by Rob Mathes’ Band, including “Change,” “Will The Circle Be Unbroken,” “TheWeight,” and her showstopping smash-hit , “I’ll Take You There,” that had D.C. dancing in the aisles. 

Proceeded by BobRothRahsaanBernard, and Washington D.C Regional Director RenaBoon who spoke about the David Lynch Foundation and their work as a resident partner operating The Meditation Center at THEARCKaty Perry brought the evening to a close with breathtakingly intimate, re-imagined versions of some of her biggest hits including “Roar” and “Wide Awake.” The audience was treated to one of the biggest surprises of the night when she played one of her most powerful anthems, “Rise,” live for only the second time ever since its 2016 release. Before she closed the night with an electrifying mash-up of the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ “OhHappyDay” paired with “Firework” and the Celebration Gospel Choir, she also led the room in singing “Happy Birthday” to Bob Roth. 

“Mental health is the number one challenge we’re facing in our lifetime,” said Katy Perry. “I’ve had depression in the past, and I’ve used my music and meditation to combat it. Once you learn it, it never goes away. You’ll have it for the rest of your life. Whenever I’m in a funky mood or if I’m jetlagged or if I’m anxious – I’ll say just give me 20 minutes, and I will go deep and come back out a transformed person. I’m here tonight because I hope that we can give this tool [of meditation] to so many young people that are suffering.” 

“The reason why we’re doing this is because no one really knows about it, and thanks to Mavis and Norah and Katy and so many others, we’re getting the word out,” said Bob Roth. 

As the resident partner of (THEARC) West Campus  in Washington D.C.’s Wards 7 and 8, the David Lynch Foundation has taught the Transcendental Meditation technique to over 500 people withinTHEARC Partners. Proceeds will help bring TM to vulnerable communities in the District through in-school and after school programs, churches and community centers, recovery programs, and detention centers in partnership with THEARC(Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus). Research has shown that TM reduces stress, heals PTSD, lowers substance abuse, improves academic performance and graduation rates, and reduces arrests for violent crime.

Previous David Lynch Foundation benefit concerts have included headliners such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sting, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, Robert Plant, Hugh Jackman, Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno, Jim Gaffigan, and more.

NEW INSTALLATIONS
“Building a Milwaukee Icon: Harley-Davidson’s Juneau Avenue Factory” (open now)
A recently recovered cache of architectural drawings includes plans for the original Juneau Avenue facility. The pencil drawings, along with archival photographs, demonstrate the whirlwind pace of the company’s early growth. While building an international business—going from producing just over 1,000 motorcycles in 1909 to manufacturing 27,000 motorcycles in 1920—the company’s Milwaukee factory experienced near-constant expansion. Construction through this relatively brief period created the buildings that today, a century later, are still the proud home of Harley-Davidson.
“Building a Milwaukee Icon” provides a snapshot of Harley-Davidson’s formative years and illustrates a chapter of Milwaukee history when the city was known as the “Machine Shop to the World.”

Custom Culture Installation: “Blackbird”
Blackbird, from the minds of Bobby Greene and Justin Walls, pays homage to Joe Petrali’s 1936 EL landspeed motorcycle. Elements of Petrali’s machine are imitated in this contemporary custom bike. Both vehicles use Harley-Davidson handlebars and forks made for board trackers; both have hillclimber frames; and their wheels are the same design and size. On display for a limited time, race fans will be thrilled to get an up-close look at this tribute to historic motorcycle landspeed racing.

Other guest artists include Candice Boyd on “Carol Of The Bells” and RaVaughn on “Someday At Christmas.”

 

NE-YO puts his stamp on such standards as Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” originally recorded by Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers, and “The Christmas Song,” which was written by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé and first recorded by the Nat King Cole Trio. He recorded Another Kind Of Christmas in Montego Bay, Jamaica with longtime collaborator Curtis “Sauce” Wilson producing many of the tracks.
