Thrice Announces New Album Horizons/East

Thrice releases new single, Scavengers, in anticipation of their new album, Horizons/East, out this fall.

Returning with their 11th studio album, the dynamic and explorative California-based rock band Thrice announces new album Horizons/East, out September 17 via Epitaph Records on streaming platforms. The album exemplifies art as a work of recognition: the human task of perceiving oneself amid details, disasters, and blessings as a relentlessly relational phenomenon among others. In this, Horizons/East is the rare rock album on which interrelatedness is a theme, painting an adventurous and lush landscape mixed by Scott Evans that the band self-produced and recorded at their own New Grass Studio.

The powerful new single, Scavengers, is out today. Over a dark and intricate braiding of guitar and drum grooves, the lyrics challenge us to discern the issues and information that bonds us versus what disintegrates and destroys. For vocalist Dustin Kensrue, the song is – but also kind of isn’t – a thing of the past. Whether lost in a media diet that is essentially a disinformation pipeline or, relatedly, trapped in fear of a future of eternal conscious pain, Kensrue speaks of “toxic worldviews I once inhabited, and in truth, a lot of people that I love are still in that place.”

To emerge from a global pandemic with a renewed sense of situational awareness, hard-won insight, and a new album is the kind of move we’ve come to expect from Thrice over the last twenty years. With Horizons/East, Kensrue and his bandmates address, with candor and courage, the fragile and awkward arrangements that pass for civilization, while inviting us to dwell more knowingly within our own lives. Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they’ve given us a profoundly meditative work, which serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.

Horizons/East conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility. Some of the writing even began with open-ended challenges that the band laid on themselves like building a song using the quartal chords they found in much of the jazz they loved, or taking the Fibonacci sequence and turning it into a guitar riff.

Thrice seems ever eager to step out into these spaces unknown to them, unsure of where their feet will land, and this new record is no exception. Horizons/East is a soundtrack for deeper dreaming.

Amber Van Day Releases Touch

Once again, the multitalented Amber Van Day is taking us back to the dance floor with the release of her second solo single “Touch” out via Capitol Records. Following her global Shazam success with her debut single “Kids in the Corner”, prominently featured in the opening scene of the #1-Netflix-Show “Fate: The Winx Saga”, and her anthemic collaboration “See You In Tears” with fellow singer, songwriter and creative powerhouse Ilira, the new single “Touch” has everything to become the anthem of the summer! Stream HERE.

The beat-driven tune, infectious hook and stunning vocals melt into a catchy dance pop banger, celebrating desires, lust, passion and closeness. Especially the latter, which was more or less banned in the past pandemic months and left a void in all of us. “Touch” is the perfect sequel to the self-reflecting and powerful songs Amber Van Day has released so far, adding another hit to her more dance infused productions and collaborations such as Hugel, Younotus and most recently the top UK producers Goodboys (Meduza / Piece Of My Heart). The new single is coming from the empowering perspective of a young female artist, who is in the game to stay and eventually takes what she desires.

“Writing Touch was so much fun. I don’t really write too much about love or lust but this was a really natural one for me”, Amber says about the creative process behind the new single. “We kept all of the original ideas from the first session and even the original vocals in for the final version. The production feels really nostalgic. I do just love how dark and conversational it is.”

BabyJake – Head In The Clouds

Today, singer, songwriter BabyJake gifts fans with his new single, “Head In The Clouds,” taken from his debut EP, Don’t give me problems, give me wine, out this Friday—listen HERE and watch the visual HERE!

On the bouncy, jangly “Head in the Clouds,” BabyJake explores the hidden weight of emotional escape, juxtaposing bright guitarwork against moody lyrics about self-defeat and the pitfalls of depression and avoidance. Of the song, he says, “I’m always late. I have a hard time focusing. My mind is always somewhere else. ‘Head In The Clouds’ is about that…my daily struggles.”

Head In The Clouds” follows BabyJake’s breakout singles, “Confidant,” “Blue Cellophane” and “MadHappySad,” as well as his collaborations with Dillon Francis, “You Do You” and “Touch,” released earlier this spring. Stay tuned for Don’t give me problems, give me wine out this Friday!

ABOUT BABYJAKE

Jake Herring, the artist who records as BabyJake, has a complicated relationship with music. Growing up in Fort Meyers, Florida, Herring first picked up the guitar when he was eight years old. By the time he was in high school, he was juggling a deep, somewhat private love of music with genuine enthusiasm for sports and partying with his friends. He didn’t feel like he fit in in any specific social group, and soon felt alienated. For solace, Herring turned to his dad’s folk records, favoring the low-key contemplative sounds that resonated with the sense of alienation that he was feeling. Though he maybe wasn’t conscious of it at the time, Herring was priming himself to be a sort of musical chameleon. Well versed in the building blocks of rock music, the intimacy of folk, and with an innate understanding of the rap and pop music he grew up around, he was constructing a well of disparate influences to draw from when he eventually made a serious go at a music career. After his freshman year of college, Herring dropped out and started writing songs as often as he could, debuting as BabyJake in 2019 with his viral single “Cigarettes on Patios,” which has accumulated over 35 million streams to date. Before too long, he had his first official body of work, which quickly evolved into a multifaceted career that currently involves a record label called daycare with an added merch/streetwear line and a budding career penning and producing songs with other artists. His seven-song debut EP, Don’t give me problems, give me wine, feels like the result of an artist older than his years, someone who has lived recklessly and loved hard and is ready to put it all on record.

PARADE OF LIGHTS

PARADE OF LIGHTS RELEASE NEW TRACK “TIDAL WAVES”

LISTEN HERE

Los Angeles-based alternative rock band Parade of Lights share their first new song of 2018, “Tidal Waves” [Astralwerks]: LISTEN HERE. Alt Nation, the first station to support and play Parade of Lights at the start of their career, premiered the track yesterday on their weekly Advanced Placement show.

“Tidal Waves” is the newest tease from Parade of Lights’ forthcoming sophomore album. Last year, they shared two new tracks, “Touch” and “Victorious,” which were met with praise from fans and critics alike. Baeblewrote, “‘Touch’ is charismatic in its hook-packed chorus and instrumentals that make you want to dance.” Earmilkcalled it “an ’80s tinged, synth and hook-laden tune that evokes visions of palm tree lined streets and Instagram-worthy sunsets.” Idolatoragreed, claiming “if you like Bleachers and WALK THE MOON, this is the song for you,” while also describing “Victorious” as “synth-drenched pop/rock with a giant hands-in-the-air chorus.”

Painting an artful pastiche of pop, alternative, shoegaze, and electronic, Parade of Lights have quietly become a phenomenon since the 2015 release of Feeling Electric. The title track featured in EA Sports’ FIFA 16 and racked up 4.8 million Spotify streams, while “Golden” cracked 8 million Spotify streams and played during high-profile spots for the Super Bowl®, NBC Winter Olympics, the Academy Awards®, and the GRAMMY® Awards. Meanwhile, they continue to make fans move on tour, having sold out numerous headline dates between sharing stages with Imagine Dragons, X Ambassadors, AWOLNATION, Fitz & The Tantrums, and more. Moreover, the band’s vision remains solely their own: not only do they write and produce their songs, but they also produce lyric videos and social content and even handle graphic design for online and merchandising.
