2023 Lexus RX car review by Vaughn Lowery inside 360 MAGAZINE

2023 LEXUS RX

Listen to MacKenzie Richter, Lexus Product Marketing chat w/ Vaughn on 360 MAG Apple/Spotify podcast about 2023 Lexus RX HERE.

360 MAGAZINE had an intimate driving commitment at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara with one of the top-selling vehicles in the Lexus fleet. Although 2023 Lexus RX pricing was not announced, exterior colors, trim and powertrains were readily available for testing. After five generations, performance, style and innovation have intermingled in the luxury of the new age with this hot stepper. All in all, we strongly believe the RX F SPORT is the heavyweight candidate for this reboot.

Design

The silhouette of the RX has been redesigned with stylish and sporty lines. To many, at first glance, it is a lean and agile approach. Ready to pounce. Suitable with a grill brooch coupled with jewel headlamps and taillights. The cabin is also marked by embossed patterns on the door panels and headrests of top-of-the-range models. Race-inspired red bucket seats with bespoke like black side panels. Ambient lighting is also available in different models in a variety of color combinations.

Technology

14-inch infotainment screen effortlessly placed on the dashboard for easy use of the driver’s control. This season, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are wireless, making it more intuitive and fluid. Wireless charging stations are larger for the next generation of phablets, in particular the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Z Fold4 flagships. Not forgetting, the inside has USB-C ports sprinkled throughout. Sure, you can head nod to Drake‘s Sticky with its optional Mark Levinson signature speaker set.

Performance

Larger calipers signify better braking. Rear wheel steering is a must-have, especially for parallel parking, snaking roads and u-turns. The ability to displace torque in different ratios also allows the riders to push outside of its previous capabilities.  21″ wheels in tandem with low profile Michelin tire add much needed traction for various terrains. Offered power plants are as follows: RX350 has a 2.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged pushing 275 HP; RX350h possess a 2.4L 4-cylinder with AWD as well as CVT produces 246 HP and RX500h F SPORT matches electric alongside of 2.4L turbocharged to produce 367 HP. Adaptive cruise controls, lane departure paired with civilian detection – excellent for the increase of low-stanched fat tire e-bikes in cities. Just because they have pedals, doesn’t mean they can’t excel beyond 50+ mph.

In short, the Lexus RX cocoon has become a magnificent butterfly with the RX500 F SPORT variant. It literally floats, moves easily within tight spaces, and is sure to cause a stir with transcultural youth. Lastly, a two-row, five-seater SUV with muscles and brains that can survive a hectic Gen Z household.

John Legend New Legend album via 360 Magazine

John Legend – Legend Album

Multi-platinum, 12-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend released his highly anticipated eighth studio album, LEGEND, via Republic Records.  Executive produced by Legend and prolific producer-writer Ryan Tedder (Beyoncé, Adele, et al), the vibrant double album is suffused with an unapologetic spirit of sensuality and joy, informed by the full vulnerability of pain, praise and healing. LEGEND is available to stream/download HERE.

ACT I of the epic double album recalls vividly the worldly, sensual pleasures of Saturday night – full of lust, self, sex and adventure.  It opens with “Rounds”, an immersive joint featuring Rick Ross, an artist with whom Legend has collaborated perhaps more than any other.  Other tracks include the smoldering R&B bedroom romp “Splash” featuring Jhene Aiko and rapper Ty Dolla $ign, “Dope,” a “summery, feel-good track” featuring rapper JID (Rolling Stone) and “Love,” featuring Jazmine Sullivan, whom Legend has known since she was a young artist.  ACT I climaxes in the immediately addictive and utterly uplifting “All She Wanna Do” featuring Saweetie, which Uproxx called a “sexy, dancefloor banger” and Rolling Stone described as a “roller disco jam.”

ACT II evokes the feeling of a Sunday morning, with its focus on healing, intimacy, soulfulness and commitment.  It includes “Honey,” “a sultry, jazz-inspired” R&B track featuring Muni Long (Billboard) and “Wonder Woman,” a touching tribute to the power and grace of all the women in Legend’s life featuring the nostalgic, soulful Dap Kings.  Other tracks on ACT II include “Good,” featuring Ledisi, a tale of intimate healing and the relief that comes with knowing you’re in a relationship with the right person and “Pieces,” a devastatingly beautiful ballad about living with loss and grief.

LEGEND has the feeling of a classic, and yet feels new, representing a fresh start for the artist with record label Republic, and a playful, adventurous feel. At the same time, it asserts its place in the canon of Black art, where honoring one’s ancestral story is as much part of existence as is that love, beauty and joy.

“I never feel divorced from my ancestors,” said Legend. “I have such reverence for my musical heritage, that I don’t feel like I need to leave it behind to be adventurous, or creative, or to try something new. When I’m creating something new, I’m still hearing the voices and influences of Stevie, Marvin, Curtis, Aretha, Nina, Donny and Prince.  Black musicians have always been at the forefront of innovation in music. But where I think hip hop is always about what’s new, with soul music, we are a bit more nostalgic … and hopefully what we’ve been able to do with LEGEND is that synthesis of looking forward, but also connecting with where we come from.”

Legend is set to perform “Pieces” from the new album at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 12.  Next month, the EGOT winner will return to Las Vegas for his critically acclaimed “Love in Las Vegas” residency, with shows running from October 14 through  October 29.  Billboard previously raved about the show, saying “…Legend held the full house in his hands as they danced, screamed and aah-ed their way through a generous set encompassing the multiple Grammy winner’s eight-album catalog of hits and fan faves.” Tickets are available HERE

New York City Fashion Designer Terry Singh shows at NYFW announced via 360 MAGAZINE

GURU: TERRY SINGH

Terry Singh exhibited his gender-neutral SS23 collection during NYFW at Daylight Studio on Friday, September 9.

Vaughn Lowery has taken Singh to heart in a two-part series on 360 MAG Amazon | Google | Spotify | Apple podcast. They have a meticulous discussion about the new world order and how it will redefine gender norms.

Native New Yorker, Terry Singh, is reshaping the way the world views masculinity, diminishing society’s view of how a man should look.

After a six-month tour of India as a Yogi, Singh had a revelation. During a morning ritual at the summit of a mountain, his swami changed forever his male state of mind while bathing him while the sun kissed his skin.

After his spiritual journey, Singh defied his Western imposition of love, giving birth to his eponymous mark. He was inspired to recreate this sense of release through a dhoti, an ancient garment worn by leaders and warriors. “I was inspired by the freedom to wear a dhoti because it flows and it also somehow brought me to this space,” the cultural curator said.

In addition, Terry explains that nature is the essential motivation for his capsule. ‘‘I would say that we are always evolving and changing tomorrow, you can watch a documentary, you notice something in nature, and you feel something, and that feeling that comes to you is so intrinsic that it only needs you,’’ states Terry.

Upon his return to New York, he received a new direction: reintroduce the perspective of men’s clothing. This deep movement enabled Singh to proudly wear his dhoti alias the NYC wrap. His vision was to impact world culture. According to the designer, dhoti is a reflection of his transforming experience and the way we enter into ourselves over a period of time.

Terry Singh, a father of four, identified his suits as his signature, pairing them with his elegant salt and pepper hairstyle. While designing the pieces, Singh constantly ensures that he preserves a certain masculinity in the room. Instead of wearing a belt, he added adjustable buttons to the waist strap.

No doubt, Terry Singh, alongside other progressives like Pyer Moss and Telfar break down the barriers in fashion. Lowery continues, “You are saving lives.” After all, the statement of classy masculine figurines on a stage like NYFW will encourage others to do the same, creating a domino effect. And, perhaps put an end to the intimidation which Jaden Smith, Harry Styles and Machine Gun Kelly continually encounter in the mass media rocking skirts.

In the very near future, Terry Singh expects men of all ages to reach for his suit of armor instead of a traditional tuxedo.

Listen PT2 of Singh on 360 MAG.

Gucci attache campaign via 360 Magazine

GUCCI ATTACHE

Gucci Attache, the house’s latest bag style. The Attache Bag is characterized by an adaptable “G” clasp at the bottom of the strap which transforms the silhouette into a stunning half moon shape. This style draws upon a playful 1970s aesthetic and reaffirms the house’s ongoing efforts in gender inclusivity, offering eight distinct unisex styles.

A piece of contemporary design created from the awareness of a modern attitude and of the intentional revival of a historical object from the archive: Gucci Attache is a bag that reinterprets tradition and the system of House codes while transporting a silhouette, which draws from an intuition and an attitude of the 1970s, into the present through a narrative and gesturality outside the confines of gender, feminine or masculine.

Attache, like the French word for “hook,” like the geometry with which, through the power of symbols, can be defined as onomatopoeic because it closes onto itself like a hook. Or like the metallic hook that attaches the two corners. Attache, therefore, is the bag that progresses from a half-moon design encompassed by the Web, distinguished by a metal G that opens and closes its silhouette.

Versatile as a symbol, in shape, and in volume, the Gucci Attache is presented as the essence of a very current attitude and gesturality. Both in its medium and small sizes and in the diverse ways it can be worn, either on the shoulder or across the body, the line presents that appeal that only objects with dual functions can have.

“I was fascinated by the bag after having laid upon it a casual and fleeting glance while I was in the archive… Immediately, a desire took shape to reinterpret it and include it in the Love Parade collection for the fashion show in Los Angeles because its silhouette, typical of the Seventies, projects a very modern attitude that convinced me to draw out an eclectic symbol that could express the idea of a dual function. It is its G-shaped clasp detail, with its mechanical origin, that makes it the joining link between a bourgeois spirit, typical of an object of this kind, and the functionality of the world of utility,” says Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of Gucci.

With its interchangeable straps, in leather or the Web, that allow it to become both a shoulder bag and a handbag, the Gucci Attache is an item of design that is both transportable and ergonomic, living in contact with the body, a perfect silhouette to add to a hypothetical collection of objects of desire. In other words, of those wonderful, useful, inseparable objects that in the culture of contemporary living, have become bags.

The Gucci Attache is featured in a campaign that Art Director and photographer Max Siedentopf shot against a metropolitan backdrop, underlining the same symbols that form the meaning of this bag: references and perspectives that together, know how to create that glam-utility that is the expression of a culture of appearance and practicality. Two elements that create a desire for beauty.
