Macfox X2

The popularity of e-bikes has skyrocketed over the last few years. Due to the rise in petty crime on mass transit in both LA and NYC as well as expensive prices at the pump, millennials who reside in close proximity to their jobs have decided to ditch their cars. As micromobility options have become a way for individuals to express themselves, it’s important to find brands like Macfox that make it easy to customize their models.

The Super73 and Onyx Motorbikes were some of the most impressive e-bikes on the market. Even though they were both well-constructed and attractive, they both had a high price tag ($3,800-6500) and a lengthy waiting list. Then emerged the newcomer, Macfox X1, which cost roughly $1100, was an excellent lightweight choice in comparison to the aforementioned bulky models. Whatever the case, this initial prototype didn’t seem to measure up.

The following year, Macfox carefully listened to their customers and created the X2:

° Full suspension
° Turn signals that are integrated
° Hydraulic brakes
° A secondary battery clamp
° A headlamp with low/high beam
° 750 watt motor (1000 watt output)
° Half-thumb throttle

This metacycle is both nimble and easy to maneuver, with adequate stopping power and enough torque (our top speed on flat pavement was 30-33mph). And for those who like to boast about their bespoke, you can purchase the 20′ fat tires with brown walls and banana seat for that straight-from-the-box look. Moreover, unlike many of its competitors, you get a ton of branded accessories which will have you on the road right away rather than fishing for components.

The unit is relatively easy to assemble and is packaged with tools. We viewed a few tutorial videos on YouTube. This marks the first time we didn’t have to employ someone to assemble. Yes, we saved approximately $145, but we eventually had to visit a technician to reassure the overall build.

In short, the Macfox X2 is the perfect purchase, especially for those who need extra power to overcome challenging inclines in Central Park and a memory foam seat for long rides, providing high levels of comfort on or off the road.


PROS: affordable, well-made Shimano shifters, stylish design, and great battery life.

CONS: thin tires, small handlebars, metal pedals, and grinding noise at top speed.

BUCHAREST BIENNALE 11

International Bucharest Biennial for Contemporary Art will take place September 19 – October 06, 2024, under a new direction.

In a groundbreaking move, BUCHAREST BIENNALE was successfully acquired by a new organisation. This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in the contemporary art landscape.

The board of directors of the newly formed organisation appointed Daniel Roșca, a Romanian cultural manager and artist, as director of the Bucharest Biennale 11. Eugen Rădescu, the former director, will take the position of director-at-large, member of the board of directors of the entire organisation and remain the co-founder of Bucharest Biennale.

The Bucharest Biennale founded 20 years ago, has long been celebrated for its commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and showcasing diverse perspectives. With this acquisition, BB11 aims to foster cross-cultural dialogue, amplify artistic innovation, and elevate the biennial experience to new heights supporting underserved communities of artists including queer community, minorities and emerging artists. BB was the first biennial in history to use an AI curator in 2021.

“I am thrilled to be at the helm of Bucharest Biennale, building upon the significant achievements to date and exploring innovative approaches to uphold the same level of excellence and introduce fresh perspectives in the realm of art.”, said Daniel Roșca, the director of Bucharest Biennale. Daniel Roșca is a cultural manager, artist and climate change activist. His artworks have been exhibited in Bucharest, Kiel, Ulft, Geneva, Copenhagen and Paris, among others. Since 2017, he has been a founding member of the Grund, an organisation promoting emerging Romanian artists, facilitating artistic and philosophical education, and larger exposure for emerging artists.

BUCHAREST BIENNALE 11 will unfold under the theme “Democracy’s Uncharted Territories.” The curatorial approach is anchored in the principle of participatory democracy, accentuating the engagement of citizens in decision-making processes (Smith, 2009). This conceptual framework contests the conventional role of the curator as the singular arbiter of artistic significance, advocating for a more encompassing and cooperative milieu. Additionally, it will serve as a critical commentary on the misuse of democratic rhetoric solely for vested interests by Romanian cultural actors.

In BB11, the designation of a curator will be eschewed. Rather, the entire BB11 team will function as the selection committee and curatorial collective. Participating artists will be chosen through an open call process, adhering to a first-application-first-selected approach. The open call will be disseminated in the forthcoming weeks.

LENNY KRAVITZ – HUMAN

VICTORIA FUTRELL GOODE

Today, we pay tribute to the memory of Victoria Futrell Goode, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was affectionately known as Aunt Tora. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and enriched the lives of all who knew her.

On April 25, 1927, in Potecasi, North Carolina, Victoria was born to Magnus and Virginia Vergie Bradley Futrell. She received her formal education at Potecasi Grade School and continued on to W. C. Creecy High School in Rich Square, North Carolina, where she graduated in 1945. Victoria was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Potecasi, where she quickly learned that the Lord knows her name.

On March 2, 1950, Victoria married the late Raymond Goode, of Seaboard, North Carolina. They were married for over 50 years, and were devoted to each other until his passing in 2003. Their union was blessed with 7 children: Diane, Eloise, Joyce, Raymond, Denise, Cynthia and Angela. The couple raised their family in Brooklyn, NY, where they met, after migrating from the south. They were surrounded by extended family and maintained their strong ties back home in North Carolina. Victoria joined Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York where she worshiped and fellowshipped for many years. One of her favorite church hymns was One Day at a Time (Sweet Jesus). Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:6, In all thy ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.

Throughout her life, Victoria was a housewife, but because of her love of children and her desire to be a teacher, she worked as a family daycare provider and also cared for her friends and neighbors’ children. Victoria was a woman of faith who had a big heart and would share whatever she had with anyone in need. She was always a caregiver, and in this way, she served her loved ones and close knit community of Clinton Hill /Fort Greene, Brooklyn, for many years. Even in her last days, she was more concerned about how her family was managing during the COVID 19 pandemic, while they were only concerned about her.

Victoria was the matriarch of the Goode family. Her values and principles have been permanently imprinted in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was an example of grace, dignity and kindness. Victoria always had a kind word for her friends and neighbors and those who needed it. Her timeless wisdom and loving words will always be with us. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, Victoria exited this life and entered eternal rest. In addition to her parents, and beloved late husband Raymond, she joins her late sisters, Magnolia, Rosette and Henrietta and her brother Magnus. She also joins her great-grandson, Liam and great- great- grandson Messiah.

With her service on Earth now complete, Victoria leaves behind her children: Diane, Eloise, Joyce, Raymond, Denise (husband Patrick), Cynthia (husband Kelvin), Angela, and her dear niece Maudie, who loved her like a mother; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Clarissa Siposs, known professionally KARMÅ, is a classically trained composer, songwriter, producer, and performer known for her unique brand of dance music.
