Britfield Series at Frankfurt Book Fair

Devonfield Publishing is excited to announce that Britfield & the Lost Crown (England), Britfield & the Rise of the Lion (France), and Britfield & the Return of the Prince (Italy) will be represented at the Frankfurt Book Fair (October 18-22) by veteran literary agent Laurie Blum Guest. Already published in the United States and Poland, the international rights are being negotiated with publishers in Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Lithuania, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil, among others.

Since the August 2019 release of Britfield & the Lost Crown, it’s becoming a global phenomenon throughout retail, schools, and education. Children and parents worldwide are enjoying the fast-paced, action-packed pages while learning about history, geography, and culture. Rarely has a book series created its own unique category, a cross between Charles Dickens and Ian Fleming, while removing common literary devices such as mythology and witchcraft. Teenagers and adults connect with genuine characters and authentic situations in a world people can relate to. This type of writing breaks the fourth wall of fiction, reaching the hearts and minds of all demographics. Quoted as “a combination of C. S. Lewis and Dan Brown,” other reviewers have said it’s a blend of “Oliver TwistLes Miserables, and Sherlock Holmes.”

The first of seven live-action Britfield movies will redefine the industry, causing a major paradigm shift. Several award-winning directors are being considered, along with top British actors for the main and supporting roles of Detective Gowerstone, Professor Hainsworth, and Mr. and Mrs. Grievous. 12-year-old Sarah Wallace and Tom will be played by two up-and-coming young actors. Pre-production is tentatively planned for spring 2024, followed by principal photography in England and Eastern Europe in the fall of 2024. Global release could be as soon as November or December 2025.

The Britfield & the Lost Crown series is unique for the literary and film industry as it does not rely on heightened fantasy, demigods, or superheroes. Taking place in current time and using authentic locations, the real-life story creates a new category of family adventure and entertainment. Based on industry research, Britfield is projected to become one of the most successful films in cinematic history, rivaling the original Star Wars (1977), The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005), Night at the Museum (2006), and Harry Potter (2001-2011).

RAYE is riding high from the continued success of her inescapable global hit “Escapism.”, which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart and has been certified RIAA Platinum in the US and 9 other territories. The track has since accumulated over 1 billion streams worldwide and remains the second biggest selling single of the year in the UK where it’s won “Best Social Trended Song” at The Global Awards, “Best Contemporary Song” at the Ivor Novello Awards, and “Best Independent Track” at the AIM Independent Music Awards. “Escapism.” also earned RAYE her highest-peaking song on the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 22) and topped TikTok’s viral music chart where it boasts 110 million views.

RAYE was recently shot for British Vogue and was named one of the title’s Top 25 Women of the Year in its Vogue 25 list.

INFINITY COMIC IS NOW AVAILABLE

An all-new ongoing Avengers series just launched on Marvel Unlimited! Earlier today, attendees of the Avengers Assemble: A This Week in Marvel Special Event at New York Comic Con got a first look at the new AVENGERS UNITED series, and were the first to know that the new Infinity Comic is now available on the app!

Ryan Penagos, VP & Creative Executive at Marvel, hosted a live edition of the This Week in Marvel podcast and was joined by Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, along with writers Jed MacKay (Avengers) and Al Ewing (Avengers Inc.), for a discussion on Marvel’s mightiest line of comics: the Avengers!

AVENGERS UNITED #1 kicks off a 25-chapter Avengers epic as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble in response to an impending interstellar disaster! The comic is written by Derek Landy with art by Marcio Fiorito and colorist Erick Arciniega.

“There is a certain immediacy that you can get with this kind of digital comic—where it’s one panel at a time and you’re constantly scrolling for the next reveal or surprise—that is tremendous fun to play with,” reveals series writer Derek Landy. “Luckily, I’ve been partnered with Marcio Fiorito, who delivers that cohesion and that rhythm in effortless and stylish fashion.”

“I love Derek’s way of telling a story,” adds series artist Fiorito of their creative collaboration. “For an artist, it’s gratifying to be able to build on the story, and Derek really allows me to do that. Also, Derek writes in a way that alternates between big action scenes and cool character moments. What more can an artist want?”

ASPCA and Iglesias will be selling limited-edition t-shirt to celebrate the launch of the Improv’s inaugural “Laugh-Line” program. All net proceeds will benefit ASPCA. The Laugh-Line program is a one-of-a-kind merchandise-based project designed to foster collaboration with the Improv and an artist to raise funds and awareness for the artists’ charity of choice. The new initiative aims to unite the worlds of comedy, artistry, and charitable giving.

“The Improv launched the Laugh-Line program as a comedic force for good, recognizing that laughter is a universal language that can bridge gaps and bring people together,” says Levity founder Robert Hartmann. “By collaborating with comedians to raise funds and awareness for charities, our hope is to prove that humor has the power to not only entertain but also make a positive impact on the world.”

The ASPCA is dedicated to safeguarding animals’ well-being by engaging communities, taking proactive measures, and providing vital resources and care when needed. Iglesias’s decision to support this noble cause exemplifies his dedication to making the world a better place for animals in need.

When asked about his charity of choice

said, “When the Improv asked me what charity I would want to select, it was no question it would be ASPCA.  It’s a great charity to support as it gives hope and protection to the voiceless creatures who depend on our compassion and care.”

During the program’s launch period (October 4th, 2023, to October 4th, 2024), Improv Comedy Clubs will donate 100% of net proceeds from the sale of exclusive Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias’ t-shirts. BIA – REALLY HER

BIA, the Boston-area global star, releases the international deluxe edition of her latest EP, Really Her, today. The EP executive produced by BIA, AzizTheShake and Lil Rich, boasts seven brand-new tracks that feature top flight international acts such as Sfera Ebbasta (Italy), Giggs (UK), Tion Wayne (UK) and Luciano (Germany). The project is available now for download and stream.

[Get ‘REALLY HER (INTL DELUXE) EP’ here]

The standard edition of the Really Her EP released in July and finds BIA collaborating with a multi-generational slate of Hip Hop legends, from J. Cole and Swizz Beatz to Busta Rhymes and Timbaland, a testament to the reputation she’s built as an artist in the last few years. BIA, who raps on her Swizz Beatz collab, “Classy,” that she’s an “outstanding, international icon,” didn’t stop there. Despite the “EP” designation, she expands Really Her to 16 tracks that express the full range of her artistry and further confirm her versatility as a collaborator.

On a new version of “London,” which has amassed over 24 million YouTube views, she welcomes legendary U.K. rapper Giggs as a collaborator. For “Milano,” BIA collaborates with Italian star and rapper Sfera Ebbasta on a drill-adjacent record that also features stateside drill star Fivio Foreign. Elsewhere on the project, BIA infuses elements of U.K. grime beside Pa Salieu and genre-blending Nigerian artist ODUMODUBLVCK, and delivers a high-octane ode to “Dubai” with UK drill veteran Tion Wayne—all records that feel right at home beside much of her catalog. German-based drill artist Luciano, who scored a no. 1 hit on the German charts with BIA in 2022 (“Bamba”), delivers a boisterous chorus on “Lifeline,” another example of their proven chemistry. Though she pushes her creative bounds, BIA continues to find ways to stay true to her musical self-center and shine in each lane she occupies. “This project is a vital part of my career because it has pieces of where I came from, where I am now and hints of my new direction as an artist” says BIA.

BIA’s ascent in recent years has been captivating to witness. After independent success earned her a deal with Epic Records in 2020, BIA quickly generated momentum with the inescapable “Whole Lotta Money,” earning a remix from Nicki MInaj and a multi-platinum certification from the RIAA. Subsequently, her first EP to release on Epic, For Certain, would earn the rapper her first placement on the Billboard 200 albums chart, a clear indicator that she had arrived. Since then, BIA has been no stranger to the charts, impacting the Hot 100 singles chart again with the J. Cole-assisted “London” and notching a Top 20 mark on U.S. Rhythmic with the Timbaland backed “I’m That Bitch,” both of which feature on the standard Really Her EP.

Her impact extends beyond the numbers. Last summer, BIA was called upon to appear on Nicki Minaj’s massive remix to “Super Freaky Girl” alongside the day’s hottest young female stars. This summer, Busta Rhymes invited BIA to feature on his “Beach Ball” single, which the pair performed during the BET Awards’ “Hip Hop 50” segment honoring the culture’s past, current and future stars. She also joined 21 Savage on world-renowned Dutch DJ Tiesto’“Both,” which is at over 7 million streams on SPOTIFY alone. She also released a solo record, “Raised Me,” as part of Google Pixel/Mass Appeal’s Hip Hop 50 campaign and teamed up with Tones And I and Diarra Sylla FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup official walkout song, “Bring It On.”

Next, the rising star is setting out on her first headlining tour, the Really Her tour along with Lakeyah and Lebra Jolie, kicking off nationally in October.

Tickets are on sale HERE.

As the Beatroute cover subject for the month of September, she tells the Canadian outlet, “I’ve been dying to pull up on my fans, see who they are, who they look like, and see them saying the words with me. I want to go hug them.”

Ice Spice – Pretty Girl

Ice Spice releases the song for “Pretty Girl (with Rema)” on 10K Projects/Capitol. The rapper, singer, songwriter and overall It Girl is joined on the track by Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter Rema and produced by RiotUSA.

LISTEN HERE

“Pretty Girl (with Rema)” comes days after the Bronx-born Ice Spice was announced as the season premiere musical guest on Saturday Night Live, won Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards and Best New Artist at the 2023 Video Music Awards, graced the cover of Variety magazine and LA Times, added “Deli” as her 3rd RIAA-Certified Gold single with (the other two are “Munch (Feelin’ You)” and “In Ha Mood.” “Boys a Liar Part 2” with Pink Pantheress is certified platinum). Another week in the life of 23-year-old Ice Spice.

The collaboration with Rema — the recipient of MTV’s 2023 Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats — follows back-to-back smash collaborations with rap trailblazer Nicki Minaj, including “Princess Diana (with Nicki Minaj)” and “Barbie World (with Aqua)”, which marked the biggest female hip-hop debut of 2023 and broke Whitney Houston’s 31-year record for biggest jump to #1 in Billboard Rhythmic radio history. Further aligning herself with her music idols, Ice recently showed up on a remix of Taylor Swift’s track “Karma”, which reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and then Ice performed live alongside the icon at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.

All these back-to-back hits – which have all reached the Top 10 of the Billboard charts – have made Ice Spice, the artist with the most Hot 100 Top 5 singles in 2023. This meteoric rise is actually as organic as they come, as the fan-dubbed ‘Princess Diana’ connects with her audience, dismisses noise, stays the boss of her own destiny and continues to focus on her songwriting and manifestations.

Not only has Ice Spice made waves on the charts, but she has also broken records on socials. Last month, it was announced that she achieved the biggest streaming debut for a female rapper on Spotify. The Bronx rapper surpassed a record previously held by Nicki Minaj. “Karma,” on Taylor Swift’s deluxe album, garnered an impressive 5.036 million streams in its first day. This propelled it to No. 5 on the global Spotify chart. This is the biggest streaming debut for a woman rapper in global Spotify history for her “Karma” collaboration with Taylor Swift.

This success should come as no surprise, as Ice Spice’s debut EP “Like..?” (10K Projects/Capitol) boasts nearly 2.5 Billion combined global streams and is packed with viral hits that earned universal acclaim and spots on countless “Best Song of the Year” lists from the likes of  The New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling StoneBillboard, NPR and The Washington Post among others. These accomplishments have put Ice on the cover of Billboard’s 40 Under 40 Issue, Teen Vogue and Paper Magazine, and the aforementioned Variety and LA Times. Critics and fans alike love her funny bad-ass lyrics, her deep voice and her laissez fair delivery.

Last year saw Ice Spice establish herself as one of the most notable names in the rap game. The New Year’s, 2000, baby came out of 2022 as TikTok’s #1 Emerging Artist of the Year, Vevo’s 2023 DSCVR Artist to Watch, Shazam’s Top 2023 Artist Prediction, Billboard’s Hip Hop Rookie of the month and rounded out 2022 as BET’s Amplified Artist of the month.

Ice Spice’s road to stardom accelerated with “Munch,” but she’s been buzzing in NYC for a long time. At age seven she was writing poetry and freestyling, and from there she first gained attention with “No Clarity,” a bite-sized banger that decries the lack of communication in a relationship, and the soul-sampling “Name Of Love,” which Ebro featured as his “discovery of the day” on Apple Music Radio.

This Fall, catch her on the Scarlet Tour with Doja Cat. As the past year has been monumental for Ice, she revealed to Variety that she has no place to slow down anytime soon.

SCARLIP – No Statements

Breakout NYC-bred star ScarLip releases her new single and video, “No Statements,” today to major DSPs. The video, directed by Sarah Mccolgan (H.E.R., Nas, Miguel), arrives via Complex Media World Premiere, and can be viewed HERE.

New York City’s rap’s 2020s resurgence is entering its post-drill era, and ScarLip continues to state her case as one of the movement’s crown jewels with “No Statements.” The record comes equipped with ScarLip’s trademark sinister delivery, aggressive but deliberate, with a chorus that’s instantly infectious, which led to the social media hype. In just one week pre-release, ScarLip generated over a million views of “No Statements” snippets and previews, teasing and acquainting her highly-engaged audience with her newest single.

Their reward is one of ScarLip’s most complete works to date, a versatile new song that flaunts ScarLip’s growth as a songwriter and entertainer but retains the raw energy that initially put her on the national radar. Swizz Beatz, one of ScarLip’s early star supporters and collaborators, makes a cameo on the heels of featuring the Bronx born and bred rapper on Hip Hop 50 Vol. 2, the collaborative EP with Nas-led Mass Appeal Records Swizz produced.

As ScarLip’s catalog grows, so does her profile. Billboard named “This is New York,” ScarLipr’s star-turning single released earlier this year, as one of its 50 Best Songs of 2023. In a roundtable segment titled, “Are Women Saving New York Rap?,” Complex featured ScarLip as one of the women helping to carry NYC’s rap scene into its next phase of dominance.

This summer, ScarLip made her New York Fashion Week debut, collaborating with stars like Summer Walker, Quavo, Offset, DDG and Coi Leray for previews of “No Statement” at Tommy Hilfiger’s NYFW brunch, and an appearance at the preview of Future’s collection with high-fashion brand Lanvin. ScarLip also took “This is New York” on a victory lap this summer, performing the song everywhere from Angela Yee’s star-studded Angela Yee Day concert at Barclays Center to the main stage of the BET Awards, where she was joined by Busta Rhymes, who is featured on the hit song’s remix.

ScarLip’s stars are aligning and her ceiling continues to grow. Despite her new song’s title, she’s making plenty of statements, and is poised to finish 2023 on a high note.

How PSLF Shapes

The Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

A career in healthcare is an exciting endeavor that comes with diverse experiences and the ability to positively impact people’s lives. However, the journey to becoming a healthcare professional often comes with a significant price tag in the form of student loans. For many aspiring healthcare professionals, there is relief through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. Let’s explore how PSLF is shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals by providing much-needed student loan forgiveness opportunities.

The Burden of Student Loan Debt in Healthcare

Healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists, often require extensive education and training. As a result, many accrue substantial student loan debt while pursuing their degrees. The weight of this debt can be a burden, especially for those passionate about providing care to underserved populations in public sector jobs, which may come with lower salaries upon graduation.

The Promise of Public Service Loan Forgiveness

The PSLF program, established in 2007, was designed to address this issue. It offers a clear path to loan forgiveness for individuals who work in qualifying public service jobs, including healthcare roles, typically after making 120 qualifying monthly payments. For healthcare professionals, this means that a significant portion of their student loan debt can be forgiven in exchange for a commitment to serve in public health settings.

Influencing Career Choices

PSLF has a profound influence on the career choices of aspiring healthcare professionals. Many individuals are drawn to healthcare careers out of a genuine desire to help others and make a difference in their communities. However, the burden of student loans can lead some to prioritize higher-paying positions in private practice over lower-paying but socially impactful roles in public service.

PSLF aims to change this dynamic. It allows healthcare professionals to pursue their passion for public service without being saddled with insurmountable debt. This freedom of choice enables them to work in areas with the greatest need, such as rural communities, underserved urban neighborhoods, and public health organizations, where their skills are often in high demand.

Expanding Access to Healthcare

The impact of PSLF on healthcare access cannot be overstated. By incentivizing healthcare professionals to work in underserved areas and nonprofit organizations, the program helps ensure essential care to vulnerable populations. Patients in these communities benefit from improved access to medical care, preventive services, and health education.

Supporting Long-Term Health Goals

The PSLF program also aligns with the long-term health goals of the nation. By fostering a new generation of healthcare professionals dedicated to public service, it contributes to the overall well-being of communities. Preventive care, disease management, and health education become more accessible, leading to healthier populations and reduced healthcare costs over time.

A Healthier Future

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare in the United States by expanding healthcare access, supporting underserved communities, and opening up more career paths for young healthcare leaders. As the program continues to evolve and adapt, it holds the promise of an even brighter future for healthcare professionals and the patients they serve.

Photo of Gego, an emerging artist of his time from Latin America

GEGO. MEASURING INFINITY

Gego is one of the most significant artists to emerge from the Latin American scene during the second half of the 20th century, whose career traced a markedly individual path, which defied categorization.

 – Organized chronologically and thematically, the exhibition examines the artist’s formal and conceptual contributions through her organic forms, linear structures, and modular abstractions.

– Through nearly 150 sculptures, drawings, prints, textiles, publications, and photographs, Gego. Measuring Infinity situates the artist’s practice in the artistic contexts of Latin America and considers her intersections with and departures from key art movements, such as Geometric Abstraction or Kinetic Art.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents Gego. Measuring Infinity, a major retrospective offering a fully integrated view of the work by German-Venezuelan artist Gertrud Goldschmidt (b. 1912, Hamburg; d. 1994, Caracas), also known as Gego, and her distinctive approach to the language of abstraction. Sponsored by Seguros Bilbao (will become Occident) and arranged chronologically and thematically, the exhibition examines the artist’s formal and conceptual contributions through her organic forms, linear structures, and modular abstractions.

Nearly 150 works from the early 1950s through the early 1990s are featured including sculptures, drawings, prints, textiles, and artist’s books, alongside photographic images of installations and public artworks, sketches, publications, and letters. Situating Gego’s practice in the artistic contexts of Latin America that transpired over the course of her lengthy career, the survey also considers her intersections with—and departures from—key transnational art movements such as Geometric Abstraction and Kinetic Art.
