220 KID & GRACEY

Picking the perfect Mother’s Day gift that manages to land squarely between ‘thoughtful’ and ‘affordable’, while also showing true gratitude is a challenge at the best of times let alone trying to do it in the middle of a global pandemic, trapped in isolation with mum looking over your shoulder.

But despite the lockdown measures in place, Australian pop group Sheppard have managed to pull together the ultimate mother’s day surprise in secret, all while trapped in isolation, with their mum Linda in the room next door.

“Flowers, wine, chocolates; they’re all great gifts to celebrate your mum, but this year we wanted to take a more personal approach” said Sheppard singer Amy Sheppard. “For the past few months we’ve been covertly working on writing and recording “Thank You”, a song that celebrates our amazing mum, Linda.”

Filled with signature Sheppard sounds, pop hooks and lyrics that openly and honestly recount memorable moments from the bands childhood and teenage years, “Thank You” is all in the title: a deeply personal thank you message to their mum this Mother’s Day.

“Our mum has been such an incredibly important member of our band. She’s always been there behind the scenes as a silent helping hand, making life easier for us in any way she can. Said George Sheppard “This year we couldn’t get out of the house to physically buy her a gift or to take her to lunch, so this Mother’s Day we wanted to do something a bit different. We wrote “Thank You” to our mum (all mums all over the world really) as a song of gratitude – not just for putting up with us in isolation these past few weeks, but for looking after us for our entire lives!”

Written by the band’s core writing team of George and Amy Sheppard and guitarist Jay Bovino, the band’s sixth release from their forthcoming album is more than just a thank you to their mum, it’s proof that it’s the thought that counts on Mother’s Day.

“Our mum is like an extra member of the band. She’s been by our side for some of the most important moments of our career, from playing in stadiums, festivals and clubs in over 60 countries around the world. Said Emma Sheppard “We’ve spent A LOT of time in airports and horrible hotels over the years and she’s always been there supporting us. We’re beyond lucky to have her on board!”

Released track by track, month by month, and accompanied by music videos, art and content splashed across the bands social channels; Sheppard’s forthcoming 2020 release will slowly begin to take shape over the coming months.

‘Thank You’ is the band’s sixth release from the forthcoming album.

220 Kid and GRACEY have dropped the official video for their chart-infiltrating single “Don’t Need Love,” watch HERE.

The gripping video explores the trials and tribulations of being in a relationship in the 21st century – when technology rules all. The visuals are therefore composed of phone selfies and screengrabs of conversations, ideally complementing the modern pop vibe of the track itself.

“Don’t Need Love” has just passed 18.5 million cumulative global streams. It charted at #38 in the UK Singles chart and currently sits inside the Top 30 of the midweeks after being placed on the BBC Radio 1 A-list playlist, The Capital B List and the Kiss FM playlist. It also reached #15 in the Spotify UK viral chart and got the remix treatment by UKG don Majestic. “Don’t Need Love” currently sits at #5 at Dance Radio in the US and can be heard on countless playlists worldwide, such as Pop Rising and Mint.

A producer, writer and DJ, 220 Kid adopted the name after running 220 miles in bright pink pants for charity, after his beloved godfather passed away. He was soon scouted as a model and has worked for the likes of Vogue, GQ, Nike, Reebok and others, while continuing to develop his sound. His broad musical ability has allowed him to write and produce with a wide range of artists and producers, including Grades, Sheppard, CamelPhat, Walking on Cars, Alpines and Maverick Sabre.
GRACEY arrived in 2019 with debut single “Different Things,” a slow-burning, heart-breaking introduction that instantly caught fire with fans and critics across the board. The track has received over 1 million streams on Spotify alone.

The 21-year-old songwriter then released her debut EP Imposter Syndrome at the end of 2019, marking a hugely significant flag in the sand for one of the UK’s most prolific songwriters as she finally steps out into the spotlight. Her 2020 single “Alone In My Room (Gone)” was released in February and in total, she has now registered 6.3 million combined streams across all platforms.

A gripping exploration into the role played by technology in modern relationships, the official video for “Don’t Need Love” looks destined to help the track continue its hot streak.

Arizona Zervas – 24

Singer-songwriter Arizona Zervas has released his new single “24” today via Columbia Records. The song is accompanied by a visual that follows Zervas from sunrise to sunset as he explores the palm tree lined streets of Los Angeles over the period of 24 hours. Listen to the song HERE and watch the visual HERE.

Zervas’ previous track “FML” surpassed over 100 million combined streams worldwide and followed hot on the heels of “ROXANNE”, the billion-streamed smash that has been certified triple-platinum, reached Top 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100, hit #1 on rhythmic radio and received a remix featuring Swae Lee.

Arizona Zervas, who writes and engineers all of his songs himself, has steadily been releasing music since 2016 and has played more than 50 shows across the U.S. The explosive rise of “ROXANNE” began late last year when it was topping Spotify’s U.S. Top 50 chart just a few weeks after release before Zervas joined the Columbia Records family. “ROXANNE” is the first track by an unsigned, fully independent artist to top the chart since the beginning of 2017 – the earliest date on Spotify’s online archive.

Teens and Screens During COVID-19

12 TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS FOR PARENTING TEENS ON SCREENS DURING COVID-19

This week, Children and Screens asked our experts to share their best advice for parents raising adolescents in the midst of the global pandemic. Just when parents thought that their teens couldn’t be on their devices for more hours in the day, initial data indicates that screen time among youth has increased dramatically during this time. Like younger kids, teens need guidance in managing their cognitive, emotional and physical health during this challenging and uncertain time, as well as boundaries and schedules for staying connected both on and offline. This age group is particularly susceptible to developing bad habits and addictions, so it’s more important than ever to continue encouraging a healthy relationship with screens and to give them the support they need.

Read on to learn the best ways to talk with your kids about technology and share beneficial screen time with your family; and, be sure to tune in to the next installment of our upcoming interactive popular webinar series this coming Tuesday, May 12th, at noon EDT, when our panel of experts will chat about healthy screen habits for teenagers and answer your questions via Zoom. RSVP here.

THE DEVIL’S IN THE DETAILS

While it’s important to monitor the amount of time your child spends with screens, it’s even more important to monitor what they’re actually doing with that time. Talking with friends? Encourage it. Writing a journal? Experimenting with music? Wonderful. Support your child’s need for friendship and creativity while also helping them understand that time away from distractions, time for solitude and mind-wandering, is something you value. Screens open our worlds except when they take us away from ourselves. Getting this balance right means you and your children are talking, and in my view, if that’s happening, the rest will follow. And what really helps: no screens at dinner. Consider dinner to be a sacred space, a place for conversation. – Sherry Turkle, Professor, MIT. Author, Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less from Each Other and Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age.

LEAD THE WAY

With everyone cooped up at home, now is a great time for parents to play video games, watch movies and TV shows, and explore the world of social media with their kids. This kind of active media supervision allows parents to guide their children through the world of screens, and it’s been shown to have tremendous benefits in terms of behavior, academic success, and even physical health. This process also allows parents to understand more about the fantasy world of their kids, and it offers the chance for a healthy role reversal, one in which the child becomes the teacher and the parent can model good learning practices. – Paul Weigle, MD, child and adolescent psychiatrist, associate medical director of Natchaug Hospital, Hartford HealthCare

TURN OFF THE NEWS

Daily smartphone use has skyrocketed since mid-March, and students have noted that their largest increases come with apps devoted to communication and the news. One makes kids happy; the other scares them. In order to focus on the positive, older children should reach out to others through Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, etc. for at least an hour a day. Neuroscientists say this calms an overloaded brain. In order to limit the negative, try setting limits on their time reading news apps. At a certain point, they’re more likely to raise their blood pressure and increase their anxiety by mindlessly bingeing the news than they are to actually learn anything. – Dr. Larry Rosen, Professor Emeritus of Psychology

ROUTINES FOR TEENS

The world feels like a chaotic and unpredictable place right now. Trying to maintain a routine can give children and families a sense of normalcy.  This is especially important since, by necessity, schools have shifted a lot of the responsibility for education to students and families. Right now, schoolwork and entertainment are often happening on the same devices.  Structure and routine can help kids prioritize schoolwork, so they take care of those responsibilities before shifting to entertainment or socializing with friends.  It’s also important to maintain routines around bedtime and to encourage kids to turn off their electronics at least an hour before bed.  A good night’s sleep does wonders for mood and anxiety.  –  Dr. Dale Peeples, Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University

EMBRACE THE ANALOG

More time at home means more time for valuable family activities such as cooking, home repair, spring cleaning, yard work, gardening, and landscaping. Adolescents can also unleash their creativity via painting, making music, or crafts. For those with access, the dearth of cars allows for safer and more enjoyable bike rides and long walks. This is also a special opportunity to learn about family history. Teens can interview their extended relatives and create memorabilia such as scrapbooks or cookbooks. – Kristopher Kaliebe, MD, Associate Professor, University of South Florida

TAKE A BREAK

Don’t feel guilty about the increase in your child’s screen time. As the New York Times recently reported: Coronavirus ended the screen time debate, and screens won. It’s not just children’s screen time that’s surged lately, though. Parents rely on screens to follow the news, buy groceries, teach their children, talk with colleagues and friends, and keep up with elderly family members, who they’re no longer allowed to see in person. That means kids and parents alike face increased risk for physical side effects, including nearsightedness, computer vision syndrome, and neck and back problems. Although it’s difficult to limit total screen time at the moment, parents should insist on regular breaks, both for their kids and themselves. – Professor Patti M. Valkenburg, University of Amsterdam

KEEP SCREEN TIME AND BEDTIME SEPARATE

Don’t let your child’s normal bedtime shift too much later during this quarantine period. One way to enforce bedtime is to shut off screens at least one hour before lights out. When kids (and adults) use screens before bedtime, they’re more likely to want to “watch another episode,” further delaying their bedtime. They also may become psychologically stimulated by something they read or see, which may make it harder for them to fall asleep, even if they go to bed on time. In addition, bright light from screens can suppress the natural release of the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin. In other words, protect bedtime by reducing evening screen time. – Lauren Hale, Ph.D. – Professor, Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine Program, Program in Public Health, Renaissance School of Medicine, Stony Brook University

THIS TOO SHALL PASS

Both you and your adolescent may find yourselves feeling anxious right now. Emphasize that regular life is sometimes interrupted in unexpected ways, but that things will eventually go back to normal. Help them avoid bingeing on COVID-19 news by steering them toward more healthy and enriching content, and remind them that now is a time for everyone to come together and help each other out. – Elizabeth K. Englander, PhD Director, Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center, Bridgewater State University

HIT THE RESET BUTTON

Everyone’s a bit stressed these days, and kids can sense it. Many will turn to their favorite passive activities, especially those involving screens, as a way of managing their fears. If your children suddenly can’t tear themselves away from YouTube, more frequent check-ins with a gradual decrease in daily screen time may help to reset their “digital programming.” – Meredith Gansner, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Cambridge Health Alliance

APPRECIATE THE LITTLE THINGS

Recognize that during this time, you will not be as efficient at your job, and your child will likely not learn as much as they would if they were physically attending school. This is all okay. The greatest lesson you can teach your teen, and learn with them, is that you are resilient. You can take a scary and chaotic situation and find beauty, purpose, and connection. – Colleen Kraft, MD

ASK FOR HELP

Now is a time when those teens who already struggle with their screen use are at risk of seriously losing control. Once an adolescent has fallen into addiction, tremendous family conflict is likely to ensue as parents try to take control. With families confined in their homes without a ready way to ease the tension, the situation may become volatile. Following the suggestions found here to create structure, build connections and encourage creative and social uses of tech and non-tech time may salvage the situation. But, if parents do find themselves dealing with an out-of-control teen and can’t seem to lead them onto healthier ground, there are counselors and coaches who specialize in internet addiction. Telehealth is not an ideal way to begin a helping relationship, but it may be what saves your sanity. – Dr. Hilarie Cash, Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder of reSTART Life, PLLC

DANGER AND OPPORTUNITY

Compared to adults, children and adolescents are typically less future-oriented, so present-moment experiences are particularly salient for them. As such, children and adolescents may be more inclined during the pandemic to turn to the internet for immediate gratification. There is potential danger in this: kids can get into patterns of gaming or social media consumption that may involve many hours of screen time, generate habits that may be problematic or difficult to break once the pandemic subsides, or engage in boundary-pushing or risky behavior without parental knowledge. However, there is also the opportunity here to involve youth in more adaptive patterns of internet use. For example, in the coming weeks and months, families may be foregoing in-person meetings in favor of remote holiday gatherings over the internet. Encouraging adolescents to help arrange and organize such events may provide opportunities for empowering youth to engage in more healthy forms of internet use. – Marc N Potenza, MD, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry, Child Study and Neuroscience, Yale School of Medicine

As kids get older, their needs continue to evolve, but as our experts point out, many of the basic tenets of parenting in the digital age remain the same. With the independence of college and adulthood on the horizon, it’s important to reinforce thoughtful decision-making and responsible online behavior, and we hope these tips can help guide you and your family towards a healthy future together.

TEYANA TAYLOR – The Album

TEYANA TAYLOR ANNOUNCES HER HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD STUDIO ALBUM THE ALBUM, VIA GOOD MUSIC/DEF JAM RECORDINGS

THE ALBUM FOLLOWS HER CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ALBUM KTSE (KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY)

THE ALBUM, Teyana’s official third studio album, is the long-awaited follow-up to K.T.S.E., one of the five G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam albums produced by Kanye West during his 2018 sojourn in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  Released in June 2018, K.T.S.E. (acronym for Keep That Same Energy) set off an 18-month chain reaction for Teyana, starting with its summertime Top 10 R&B smash “Gonna Love Me.”  Teyana performed “Gonna Love Me” (in a medley with “Rose In Harlem,” another K.T.S.E. track) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hip-hop audiences embraced the “Gonna Love Me” remix featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon, whose video was also directed by Teyana.

K.T.S.E. spun off a hot new single and video for Teyana in early 2019, the explicit “WTP (Work This P***y).”  The video was nominated for “Best Dance Performance” at the recent 32nd annual BET Soul Train Awards. The third single from K.T.S.E. was the evocative “Issues/Hold On.” After slaying the audience with the song live on Ellen in April 2019, Teyana was surprised on-air when Ellen presented her with the RIAA gold award plaque for “Gonna Love Me,” bringing it all full circle.

5 Myths About Varicose Veins and Why You Shouldn’t Believe Them

In case you have been diagnosed with varicose veins, it could be troublesome to distinguish facts and fiction about the condition. Most victims tend to feel that the entire society has an opinion and possible solutions for the situation. Let’s look at a few misconceptions about varicose veins and the reasons why we should not trust them.

Women are the Only People Affected by Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are prevalent among women, although men can also get affected by the medical condition. Some studies have revealed that both genders are equally affected by the disease. Based on a survey conducted by the American Society for Vascular Surgery, an excess of 15 million Americans are affected by the disease. Varicose veins run in the family; therefore, family history is a significant determinant in the development of varicosities and not gender. It is, however, unfortunate that a majority of men and women go untreated.

Surgery is Vital for the Removal of Varicose Veins

Back in the day, varicose veins symptoms were managed through weight reduction, leg elevation, dietary salt reduction, daily exercises, and using the compression hose. However, with the advancement in technology and the advancement of the disease, modern treatment involves the control of venous pressure by removing the affected veins. According to the experts at MyVivaa, the procedure could be performed in an outpatient facility using anesthesia. The surgical process could be a stringent procedure; therefore, it would be advisable for anyone seeking a procedure to pick a facility that doesn’t have financial, race, religion, or national origin bias. After a procedure, the patient can return to their routine life.

Besides, the other misconception running in society is that surgery is the only solution for varicose veins. Well, in case one of your relatives suffered from the disease and underwent surgery, probably that was the right treatment for them.

Currently, there are minimally invasive treatment options available for varicose veins patients. Surgery remains to be one of the treatment options, but there are other suitable options that you should enquire from your doctor. Micro phlebectomy is one of the procedures that involve making several incisions on the skin to remove the veins. Sclerotherapy is another solution for the superficial veins, and it consists of mixing a scarring agent with air, then it is injected in the affected veins.

The Condition is Only Cosmetic

There is a cosmetic aspect in varicose veins and most of the time; it can be viewed on the affected person’s legs, making it uncomfortable for them to wear skirts or shorts. Spider veins are a common phenomenon among varicose veins victims, and it is considered to be the smaller version of the condition and that it is purely cosmetic. Varicose veins could have a significant impact on how much you enjoy life and your health status. The condition could cause intense bleeding whenever a victim is injured, increase the chances of a blood clot, cause changes in skin color, or make the skin thicker, cause swellings or cause pain and discomfort.

Varicose Veins Have no Treatment

Lack of treatment is a great myth meant to demoralize varicose veins victims. The fact is that numerous treatment options include slightly invasive non-surgical options and revising someone’s eating habits.

There are other innumerable activities that you could indulge starting now to reduce the varicose veins symptoms such as regular physical activities that would result in muscular movement, thus improving blood flow. In case you are overweight, consider losing some weight that will significantly benefit your legs and your overall health. Besides, try elevating your legs to your heart level four times a day for at least 30 minutes that will reduce pressure on the veins.

Women Should Wait till They are Done with Having Children to Seek Treatment

This is not correct! Even for those women who are in their family planning stage, they can also seek treatment during pregnancy. But it’s also important to discuss with your physician to ensure prescribed drugs are not dangerous to your present or future pregnancy. Some of these drugs can also be excreted via breast milk.
