GNCVB × UNITED

The Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau (GNCVB) in partnership with United Airlines has announced the winner of its Three Perfect Days: Newark contest, as seen in Hemispheres Magazine.

Dr. Khew-Voon Chin of Toledo, Ohio was selected as the grand-prize winner in the giveaway, which attracted more than 1,200 entries from across the country. He will receive two-roundtrip tickets from United Airlines and a 4-day/3-night stay at the TRYP by Wyndham Newark Downtown Hotel. From sunrise to sunset, Dr. Chin and his guest will discover all there is to do, see, sip and eat in Newark, New Jersey’s largest and third oldest U.S. metropolis.

This nationwide contest “Three Perfect Days: Newark,” brings to life the celebrated article of the same name that was featured on the cover of the March 2019 Hemispheres Magazine.

Hemispheres Magazine is United’s award-winning onboard publication and the story was complemented with the Hemispheres Travel Show inflight video which featured many of the finest restaurants and tourist destinations in New Jersey’s largest city.

“We’ve been hearing a lot about the revitalization of downtown Newark and the exciting cultural venues and restaurants the city has to offer,” said contest winner Dr. Chin. “We are looking forward to spending time in Newark and discovering first-hand everything this city has to offer.”

The contest signals the continuation of the great partnership between GNCVB and United Airlines. United, a hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, offers the New York/Newark region the most flights to the most destinations around the world as a global gateway.

“Our door is always open to welcome new visitors who will serve as ambassadors to Newark and share their great experiences while visiting,” said Karin Aaron, President and CEO of the GNCVB.  “This contest vividly illustrates that there’s always something new and exciting to discover in Newark.” According to the GNCVB, tourism has more than a $2.3 billion annual economic impact on Newark, supports more than 25,000 jobs in the community, and welcomes more than 1.2 million overnight guests annually.

“United Airlines is thrilled to welcome Dr. Khew-Voon Chin, the winner, and his guest to enjoy all of the wonders of Newark from the iconic Three Perfect Days series featured within United’s inflight magazine Hemispheres highlighting the incredibly rich culture, food, and arts community that is located within our beloved hub city of Newark,” said Jill Kaplan, President of New Jersey/New York for United Airlines. “We are extremely proud to be able to share this vibrant city with our customers who fly in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport every day.”

Established in 1666, Newark has a rich history and plenty to explore. Contemporary Newark – which is home to an international airport, a large railway hub, and the nation’s third largest port – offers first-class entertainment venues, a wide array of dining options, and captivating art and cultural scene.

GNVCB also partnered with Advance Media to promote the Three Perfect Days contest in three markets: Dallas (TX), San Francisco/Oakland (CA) and Chicago (IL).

G-SHOCK PARTNERS WITH STAR SUFER MALIA MANUEL FOR SECOND VIDEO IN “24 HOURS OF TOUGHNESS” SERIES

New Campaign Centers Around Powerful Women Pushing the Boundaries of Time

Casio G-SHOCK recently launched the second of three videos in its powerful “24 Hours of Toughness” series, a campaign centered around influential women in the creative space and how they operate outside of the traditional 9 to 5.

Featuring Kauai, Hawaii native and female surf legend Malia Manuel, the campaign offers a behind-the-scenes look at Malia’s life on and off the board. Malia, who is a G-SHOCK ambassador, also became the youngest surfer ever to win the U.S. Open of Surfing at the age of 14.

“I love what I do and being able to inspire young female athletes,” said Malia. “As someone who doesn’t operate within the traditional 9 to 5, the campaign presented an exciting opportunity for me to showcase my everyday life and the place I love most.”

Malia’s video can be viewed in its entirety here: HERE.

“We’re excited to continue sharing inspirational stories through our campaign,” said David Johnson, Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “There are so many untraditional ways to achieve success and the women in our campaign don’t let the traditional boundaries of time stop them.”

In addition to showcasing Malia’s commitment to her sport, the new video also introduces the latest women’s series – the GMAB800. Designed with the active, modern woman in mind, the new watches feature several fitness-focused functions useful for daily health management and are the first women’s collection offering Bluetooth connectivity to measure the number of steps, the walking or running pace, and calories burned.

The GMAB800 collection retails for $120 each and are available for purchase at select G-SHOCK retailers including Macy’s, G-SHOCK Soho Store, and gshock.com.

1More Speakers

1More shakes up the portable speaker market with bundled units.‘ – 360 MAGAZINE

By Vaughn Lowery

If you are in the marketplace for a portable Bluetooth speaker, then 1More is your choice. With impeccable sound quality and the ability to hang them around your student residence or apartment, this speaker system is the bang for your buck. You can purchase one speaker for $99 or 2 for $149.

If you listen to songs with heavy bass, then look no farther. The bundled, packaged audio system at high levels will last for approximately 4 to 6 hours before having to recharge. It’s like having a Bose and JBL Bluetooth system combined. Each loudspeaker has a tweeter and a subwoofer so when you pair the two, the sound quality is reminiscent of a small home theater, especially if you hang them diagonally apart with one being higher than the other.

Unquestionably one of the best in the industry, they store easily in small bags when you travel. Great for outdoor BBQs and you can hang on your bike or scooter so you can enjoy music while on a drive to the beach.

They charge relatively fast and are exceedingly durable. We found out this first-hand as the speakers would hop off our glass table or edge of a kitchen countertop. If they descend, the face will sometimes pop off in order to absorb impact. We recommend you hang speaks on a bait/hook or a doorknob to keep them intact.

By far one of the best products for people-on-the-move, attending college and/or residing in small urban spaces.

5 Ways to Style a Western-Themed Outfit

A Western-themed outfit can be a fashion-statement, a piece of modern style so unique that each part of it, from the hat to the boots, looks like you designed it to fit your personality. Before you head out to line-dancing class or step out onto the runway, select a hat, jewelry, a fringed top, beautifully strong denim, and high boots meant for dancing.

Have A Hat Straight From Hollywood

If you’re looking for a hat out of your favorite Western drama or just trying to find modern Western headgear, you’re not alone. Traditional cowboy hats and other stylish vintage items like fedoras and Aussie hats look sharp and new, with not a mothball in sight.

Don’t Wear Your Grandmother’s Necklace

You may love a necklace that was passed down to you from your grandmother, but perhaps you’d also like to make one of your own. You can choose traditional earth tones, geometric shapes, and images from nature for a traditional Western beaded necklace, or you can even custom design your own beads for a modern twist.

Add Bling to a Fringed Shirt

Your Western bedazzling doesn’t have to stop at neck level. Take it on down to your waist by learning how to make your own fringed shirt. You won’t even have to buy a new shirt if you choose to do it this way. But by all means, buy new beads. They’re a main ingredient in this do-it-yourself fashion, and each one can have a personal meaning to you.

Ride Free in Beautifully-Tough Denim

The Western styling of your denim, in particular, has toughness as well as beauty. You want your jeans to hug your curves, but also give you the freedom to enjoy the dance floor or have a ride on horseback, whichever is on your agenda for the day. Sharp, solid colors can make an impression on the dance floor while showing off your belt and giving you leeway to rock the house. If short-shorts are keeping you cool in the summer, feel free to wear them out on the floor.

Blast Off With Your Boots

When you go out to the club, it’s your boots that will make the final impression, not just on your admirers, but on you. After all, the comfort and confidence you feel has a tremendous effect on transforming you from a wallflower into a Western dancer. Boots that look great on the outside, scalloped and stitched to perfection, will complete the unique outfit you composed for your special occasion. On the inside, they will support your feet so that you can remain active all night and enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Now that you’re ready for an evening of Western fun, from your new hat, to your fringed shirt, to your boots that are practically leaping off the floor on their own, you can go out with confidence. If you have time, add a pair of festive earrings, a cloth poncho, or a couple of pins in a denim jacket. Be yourself like never before by going Western.

Witches × Warlock Paddles

Last Saturday, a shadowy group of Witches and Warlocks created a fun and frightful scene when they took over Morro Bay, CA. Local professional photographer Danna Joy Dykstra-Coy witnessed the event and memorialized the scene with these amazing photographs. “We started this event six years ago to celebrate Halloween,” says Annette Ausseresses, one of the original witch paddlers. “Since then, we’ve seen the idea really take off and now there are Witches and Warlock Paddles happening from coast to coast. So, we decided to add a donation component and make it public this year.” Canned goods and/or cash donations were collected for the Food Bank of San Luis Obispo County, a network of community partners dedicated to alleviating hunger in San Luis Obispo County while building a healthier community.  For more information on all the exciting things to do and see in Morro Bay, visit www.morrobay.org.
