Paulo Londra × Ferxxo

The Latin urban phenomenon, Paulo Londra, gets together with his friend Ferxxo, who has become one of today’s most sought-after artists, for his latest single “A Veces.” The song and its official music video are now available on all digital streaming platforms.

“A Veces,” produced by Federico Vindver, is a track that carries the strength of a classic reggaeton beat with hard-hitting percussive elements that emphasizes this historic meeting between Argentina and Colombia. Throughout the song, the essence of both stars is highlighted to perfection, showcasing the powerful lyrical prowess of Paulo Londra and the distinctive voice for which Feid has become known. Between the bars of the track, the two artists weave a story of longing towards their love interests, who once felt the same way about them, and now everything is different, including their feelings.

This collaboration comes after a few months full of stellar releases from the Argentinean star, who a few weeks ago premiered “Party En El Barrio” with Duki, creating an epic tune from two of the biggest names in the Latin music scene. Prior to that track, he crossed barriers by releasing “Noche de Novela” with English star Ed Sheeran, which followed in the footsteps of his highly anticipated solo release, “Julieta.”

Throughout the scenes of the music video for “A Veces,” shot in Miami, FL and directed by Ballve, you can see both Paulo and Feid in between scenes in their day to day lives, creating magic in the recording studio. The production of both the song and the video took place on the same day.

Paulo Londra, who is considered the pioneer of the urban movement coming out of Argentina, continues to position himself as one of the most emblematic artists of the Latin urban genre. Now, with a new team for this new phase of his career, Paulo Londra continues his global conquest with new music expected soon under Warner Music Latina.

Exquisite GUCCI

As first presented in the hall of magic mirrors during Milan fashion week, the Exquisite Gucci collection was designed by the House’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele for Fall-Winter 2022. The emphasis on tailoring was the show’s organizing theme, but the headline was Michele’s collaboration with adidas. Merging sartorial tradition and sportswear codes, he added the brand’s trademark stripes and emblem to suits and an array of ready-to-wear.

I’ve always been charmed by cinema. For its power to tell stories that can probe human adventure and its drift. For its visionary power to dig up in the real, making it vertiginously imaginative and questionable. Such a careful look on the human, after all, is so close to me. I could never imagine clothes as severed from the story and life of the person wearing them. If you ask me, a garment is not, and never will be, just a piece of fabric. It’s rather the means through which we are able to unfold who we really decide to be, it’s how we shape our desires and the ultimate sense of our staying. That’s why I’ve always imagined my collections as films able to convey a cinematography of the present: a score of stories, eclectic and dissonant, that can sacralize the human and its metamorphic ability.

The “Exquisite” campaign is my tribute to cinema and to one of its brightest maestros, Stanley Kubrick. A philosophic filmmaker who, better than others, emanated the magic of that inextricable knot through which cinema exudes life and magnifies it. I’ve always admired Kubrick’s remarkable capacity in tackling very different subjects. His experimental drive goes beyond any possible categorization. Every film, in fact, digests the manifold souls where dystopia meets parody, drama becomes human comedy, horror looks like a psycho-philosophic treatise, the feeling of truth evolves into the uncanny. Kubrick was, in essence, a real sculptor of genres: the “cross-genre” director, ahead of his time. His ability to build stories that exceed significance, crossing borders and setting labels on fire, has always been deeply inspiring to me.

As an act of love, I decided to reinhabit Kubrick’s films, pushing to the core this incendiary approach. I took the liberty of disassembling, blending, grafting and reassembling them. Sticking to my creative praxis, I seized those movies, romanticizing them, populating them with my clothes. Trying to create short circuits where the adidas gown, that had already lost its status of sportswear to become a Victorian costume, appears as a new character in the script of Barry Lyndon. The dress designed by Laura Whitcomb, wearing which Madonna grabbed the New York spotlight in the nineties, fits in the gothic scenes of The Shining. The mysterious darkness of the enigmatic ritual of Eyes Wide Shut embraces a venus in fur, embellished with sensual bourgeois pearls. And more, the 90s shoes with a fetish flavor explode through the frames of A Clockwork Orange. Finally, the dreamiest evening dress dangled in soft tulle ruches bursts into the aseptic and dystopian space of the Discovery One in 2001: A Space Odyssey. This situationist game mixes historical plans, references, experiences. The past explodes into the present. Everything can become anything, or something else. As in that famous scene of Kubrick’s masterpiece, where the bone turns into a spaceship. As in life.

With “Exquisite” I carry on my attempt to mingle high and low, this time coherently and synergistically with the grammar of the great director. In the selected sequences it feels like Nietzsche, Kant and Freud speak casually to the people in the street. The biggest questions about the meaning of life become pop images. Complex transfigurations in terms of significance, get immediate access in terms of experience. Everything comes to be iconic, symbolically sophisticated, though able to reflect on a culture that we can definitely identify as pop. I chose Kubrick also for this, after all. What he created is part of our collective imagination. Since he was a diviner of vision, his works are as recognizable as the Sistine Chapel, the Virgin of the Rocks or The Simpsons. Manipulating his images, inside a brand new semantic framework, is like hacking La Gioconda. Plus the inspiration and the empathy only possible through the fictional cinematographic machine.

This involvement generates a change of state that is very significant for my job: clothes get closer to bare life again. They turn into highly imaginative functional prostheses, and they do so to tell a story. A story that shatters, enchants, tortures, ignites. Because it’s the story of the human that dwells in each and every one of us. As Stanley Kubrick knew too well. And also Milena Canonero, a very dear friend of mine, who accepted my invitation to go back over some of the scenes that hailed her as an undisputed star in the history of costume design. Her presence in this project is moving for me, a very precious gift.

CJ Perry – The Surreal Life

CJ Perry stars on the reboot of The Surreal Life which airs on VH1 Mondays at 9 pm/8c. As of late, she engages in an introspective conversation with Vaughn Lowery on the 360 MAG podcast about mental health, homelessness in LA and her career in the WWE. CJ Perry is best known as WWE Superstar “Lana” and “The Ravishing Russian” for the past decade. She grew up in Latvia and can speak the Russian language. Every morning, she eats five eggs and a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast to fuel her moves. The talented WWE superstar also acted in popular series such as E!’s “Total Divas” and “Pitch Perfect 1 & 2.” She stunned everyone at the London and New York Fashion Weeks and landed partnerships with red-hot brands like PrettyLittleThing and Fashion Nova.

Perry spoke about the WWE’s controversial third-party policy that went into effect last year, which fans accused her of being the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ because she had a number of sponsorship deals through her Instagram. “I’ve been always in communication with WWE, always given them every single… Everything I do, I always get everything approved. I am, regardless of what people see me on screen throughout the years as the bad guy, the heel, the loud mouth, the drama, behind the scenes, I would say I try to do everything by the book. Because I deal with really bad anxiety and mental health issues and I just get too anxious if I feel like I’m breaking the rules, “Perry stated in an interview with ComicBook. She also mentioned in the Talk Is Jericho podcast that the only way she’d return to the wrestling scene is if a company offered a No-Cut clause in the contract.

Aside from being a pro wrestler, Perry starred opposite Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in sci-fi thriller film WIFELIKE. The film tells the story of a widower named William (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who receives an A.I. copy of his late wife, Meredith (Elena Kampouris). In the fight to end AI exploitation, an underground resistance attempts to infiltrate him by sabotaging the programming of the AI Meredith. So she begins to question her reality as memories of a past life begin to surface in a world where nothing is as it seems.

Perry also starred opposite Bruce Willis in sci-fi-action film COSMIC SIN. The story follows a group of warriors and scientists who must fight to protect and save their race when a hostile alien species with the power to infect and take over human hosts sets its sights on a futuristic human society. Perry will step into the role of “Sol” — who was originally written for a male. The character is described as “the best sniper in the galaxy and lead assassin fighting for the human race against an alien invasion.”

Perry had a breakout acting role in the fantasy/romance feature film titled, “Another Version of You” released in 2019. She was also an Executive Producer on the film and won the 2018 Audience Award at the Nashville Film Festival. The film talks about when the girl Diggsy’s always loved gets married to another man, he gets an opportunity to explore parallel universes to find another version of her who might love him back. Perry was drawn to her character Gwyneth since she is free-spirited and in the moment. “I love that free spirit about her,” she admitted. “Sometimes, her biggest strength is her greatest weakness. She just goes with the wind.”

Las Catalinas Announces Opening of Papagayo Taphouse

Costa Rica’s car-free town adds to growing restaurant and retail offerings

Inspired by New Urbanism and the seaside hill towns of the Mediterranean, the car-free town of Las Catalinas continues to take shape and evolve since it began construction in 2009. The first neighborhood to be built in Las Catalinas, Beach Town, is now nearing its completion and is a model for car-free living and intricate design. The low-rise Beach Town is extremely permeable for people on foot, and its textured hardscapes encourage maximum human-to-human interaction. As this scenic coastal town continues to grow, Las Catalinas adds to its eclectic list of food and beverage and retail offerings with the opening of its newest restaurant in Beach Town.

Recently opened in early November 2022, Beach Town in Las Catalinas welcomes Papagayo Taphouse by Papagayo Brewing Co. Leading the way with sustainability and sustainable brew practices throughout Costa Rica, Papagayo Brewing Co. is a Liberia-based brewery and tasting room producing quality craft beers accentuating the Guanacaste climate and culture. Just a stone’s throw from the Liberia airport, its flagship location produces craft beers proudly “hechas en Guanacaste” (made in Guanacaste) and inspired by the local culture and climate. For many years, the craft beer boom has steadily grown in North America, but the last five or so years has seen significant growth in the craft beer market in Costa Rica. Although the capital city of San Jose continues to be the leader in the craft beer scene in the country, Guanacaste is starting to see an influx of small micro-breweries to craft breweries with innovative and robust menus. Throughout Guanacaste, brew pubs, taprooms, and distributor breweries are pulling from local traditions, fresh ingredients, and even the Blue Zone water to brew beer that reflects the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica.

Papagayo Taphouse adds to the growing list of food and beverage offerings in Beach Town. Rihanna’s lead single “Lift Me Up” makes history this week as it becomes the most-added song in U.S. radio history, amassing the most ever single day spins and the largest ever single day audience.

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By soundtrack features over 40 international artists recorded in Lagos, Nigeria, Mexico City, London and Los Angeles. Featured artists include Rihanna, Tems, Fireboy DML, OG DAYV Ft. Future, CKay Ft. PinkPantheress, E-40 and many more.

Ludwig Göransson, who has two Emmys®, two Grammys® and an Oscar® to his credit, composed and produced both the score and the original songs on the soundtrack. His extensive work producing artists (Childish Gambino, Adele, Haim, Justin Timberlake) as well as his work scoring films and TV series (Black Panther, Creed, The Mandalorian) made him uniquely qualified to helm both parts of the soundscape.

For their fourth cinematic collaboration, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Coogler and Göransson set out to create an innovative soundscape where Göransson says, “The songs and score are one.” The two artists have talked about this approach since their days attending USC Film School, and finally made it a reality with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In what became a massive labor of love, Göransson spent over 2500 hours recording the score and soundtrack – which involved six studios, across three continents and five countries. Over the course of the film, the audience will hear over 250 musicians, two orchestras, two choirs and over 40 vocalists.

Coogler was intimately involved in the creation of the music for the film, from co-writing lyrics on the Rihanna track “Lift Me Up” to suggesting the cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” performed by Nigerian singer/songwriter Tems and bridged together with Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” for the film’s instantly viral trailer.

Göransson said, “Ryan and I talked about the importance of creating an immersive journey of sound and voice. If we used a song in the film, we wanted it to be the entire song, and to be connected to the story. Thematically, we wanted to move the audience from grief to celebration. When you listen to the soundtrack, you can close your eyes and relive the experience of the movie. That was the intention.”

Given the story is inspired by both Nigerian and Mesoamerican cultures, recording sessions were set up in both Lagos, Nigeria, and Mexico City, Mexico, as well as Abbey Road Studios in London. Producers worked with popular artists from Lagos including Tems, which has become a hotbed of musical innovation. In addition, emerging rappers and artists from Mexico City are featured on the soundtrack including rapper Pat Boy, who raps entirely in Mayan.

While in Mexico City, Göransson worked closely with music archeologist Alejandro Rojas to explore and research Mayan music. Instruments native to both Nigerian and Mesoamerican cultures were featured in the creation of the soundscape.

In Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – one of the most highly anticipated film events of the year – Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Americans Remain in Legal Limbo United We Are Dreaming (USA/2022) is a 52-minute documentary that looks at the life circumstances of five Dreamers, adults now 22 to 40 years of age, who were brought to the US as small children by undocumented parents. They have grown up in the US, attended K-12 schools and have now progressed to college, military service, and, or employment.

The term Dreamer derives from the Dream Act, bipartisan legislation originally introduced in 2001 which if passed would have provided a special pathway to citizenship for these young undocumented residents, estimated at times to be up to a million in number.

The legislation has yet to pass. In 2012, President Obama created by Executive Order, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA provides temporary protection from deportation, and the ability to legally work, among other privileges.

As 2023 approaches, DACA recipients are dispersed in communities throughout the US where they are building careers, raising their American born children and are otherwise immersed in their communities. Many were essential workers during the COVID pandemic. But some 600,000 Dreamers (part of an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrant residents in the U.S.) remain in legal limbo, susceptible to the political inclinations of lawmakers who have yet to seriously address a dysfunctional U.S. immigration system.

Dreamer Miguel Tapia Colin speaks for the others when he says, “I think in every sense, in every sense except on paper, I think I’m an American. You know, this is the only country I know, this is the country I grew up in. This is the country that I went to school in, standing up every morning, pledging allegiance to the flag, learning the history. Obviously, on paper I’m not, but I don’t think I’m less American than anybody else.”

Laura Collins, Director of the George W. Bush Institute Economic Growth Initiative offers, “I think the question we all need to ask ourselves is who gets to be American? And in my opinion, that is really looking forward to saying, how do we continue to live up to that ideal as that beacon of freedom and opportunity for people around the world? And that’s not just people fleeing violence and persecution, but people who truly believe in American ideals, even if they weren’t born here.”

Production of United We Are Dreaming began in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. The
documentary features important pieces of the stories of five Dreamers with connections to Delaware. During production, two graduated from college, another had a child, and the others transitioned to graduate programs and careers. In an unanticipated event, the mother of a participating Dreamer becomes a naturalized American citizen after decades of residency and petitioning.

Collectively, these segments offer a clear and compelling picture of the impact that
a long-fractured immigration system is having on the lives of DACA recipients and their
families…and the tenacity of human spirit that allows them to persist.
