Jessia – First Call

Following her certified smash “I’m not Pretty”, today platinum certified pop songstress JESSIA unveiled her gorgeous new single “First Call” off her forthcoming debut EP officially set for release on October 15 via Ryan Tedder’s Artist Driven Records in partnership with Republic Records.

A deceptively lush, dreamy, pop confection buoyed by JESSIA’s sparkling voice, “First Call” mines that sweet spot between knock-kneed ballad and daring missive in classic and authentic JESSIA style, underscoring her ambition to make listeners feel validated and understood.

“’First Call’ is the oldest song on the forthcoming EP,” shares JESSIA. “I wrote it two years ago when I was hopeful that I would reconnect with someone that I lost. I thought he was my forever, but I eventually came to the realization that he was actually just there to teach me a lot of lessons.”

“First Call” arrives amid a productive streak for JESSIA.  Earlier this year she shared the platinum-certified body acceptance anthem “I’m not Pretty”, which (to date) has garnered over 215 million global streams and 10 million video views and earned placement on highly coveted playlists and more. The anthemic track exploded on TikTok with JESSIA introducing the song via an acapella hook, racking up millions of views in a single day and catching the attention of singer, songwriter and four-time JUNO Awards nominated artist/producer elijah woods and later, Grammy-Award nominated artist Bebe Rexha who joined on the remix.

Certified Platinum in Canada where “I’m not Pretty” hit #4 at HOT AC radio, #8 at Top 40, and #33 in the U.S., JESSIA was featured as Billboard’s “Charbreaker” for the month of June (2021) and made her festival debut at Chicago’s Lollapalooza this summer. “I’m not Pretty” topped Billboard Canada’s Emerging Artists chart (at #1) for 13 consecutive weeks and introduced JESSIA to audiences around the world with its ability to connect via her brutally honest narrative and unapologetic story – the same story that has garnered a collective 264 million global streams to date and attracted Grammy Award–winning singer, songwriter, and producer Ryan Tedder, who was knocked flat by JESSIA, signing her to his Artist Driven Records in partnership with Republic Records.

JESSIA’s accessible but very complex music — self-summarized as “unpolished and unapologetic” — will make you feel understood and accepted. Think of JESSIA as a safe space to vent about all the ebbs and flows of being human – beguiling and super-relatable.  Yet this is just the beginning of what this extraordinary artist has to offer.

Jessia x I Should Quit

Rising Canadian pop star and songwriter Jessia released the official video for her new single, I Should Quit.

Directed by Nina Kramer, the carefree video highlights Jessia’s struggle to accept her friends’ advice to stop making impulsive bad choices, while knowing that she should quit but in reality admits she has no intention of doing so. On the track, Jessia says “I’m really good at giving advice but not always good at taking it. I know what I SHOULD do but what’s the fun in always playing it safe? Sometimes you just need to fully accept that you are a hot mess.”

Recently, Jessia was featured as Billboard Magazine’s Chartbreaker for the month of June. Her CRIA Gold-certified body acceptance anthem I’m not Pretty is currently Top 5 at Hot AC radio in Canada and features GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist Bebe Rexha on the official remix version of the track released last month. “I’m not Pretty” recently crossed 100 million+ streams and this week tops the Billboard Canada Emerging Artists Chart for the SEVENTH consecutive week at #1.

I’m Not Pretty initially exploded on Tik Tok when Jessia introduced the a cappella hook of the song by sharing, “I don’t know if this is total trash, or if it’s actually a bop.” Turns out it was the latter, as the clip racked up 1 million views in a day. The candid lyrics describe a journey towards self-love and the emotions one can feel while on its path – a message that has instantly resonated with audiences all over the world.

In addition to early support from international tastemakers, Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Ryan Tedder personally reached out to Jessia upon hearing the song to champion her work and collaborate. Together they are putting the finishing touches on more new music—due out soon.

Valley Release New Song SOCIETY

On the heels of their explosive track, “Like 1999”, today JUNO nominated, alternative-pop band, Valley shares their new song “SOCIETY” via Capitol Records. Valley – comprised of Rob Laska, Karah James, Mickey Brandolino and Alex DiMauro – have spent the past two years developing organic buzz through a personal and intimate connection with their fans.

“SOCIETY” hinges on a hummable, clean guitar riff. Its head-bopping beat thumps in the background as Valley gleefully nods to “You Get What You Give” by The New Radicals and “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus. Laska comments, “To us, both those songs have such an uplifting chorus but lyrically deal with some frustration with the world / pop culture and just not letting it get you down. They both lyrically touch on not following the rules just because you’re told to; trusting your own beliefs and making your own decisions.”

If TikTok happened in 1998, it might sound like this song. Underpinned by dancefloor-ready piano, the track rides this momentum towards the sweeping and shimmering hook. On the song’s meaning, Laska explains, “’SOCIETY’ tells a story of how our career can sometimes feel. We exist within an ever-changing creative industry full of opinions and music machines making everything go round. At times, what you truly have to say as an artist can feel diminished or not as important when it comes to the context of making a product or something that people will label as sellable and listenable. At the end of the day, ‘SOCIETY’ is Valley accepting the terms and conditions of our identity, songs and career, the fact that we’ll never be able to please everyone but also coming to terms that no matter what the public considers to be a ‘hit,’ we tell ourselves we’re always going to follow our own artistic arrow.”

“SOCIETY” follows Valley’s unanticipated release earlier this year, “Like 1999.” Its genesis traces back to a TikTok post that featured the chorus of an unreleased song. In only a few short days, the TikTok had over 700,000 views and over 100,000 likes with Johnny Orlando and JESSIA posting duets of the song on their own accounts. Valley rushed to finish “Like 1999” in under 48 hours for fans and the song went on to inspire thousands of creators and amass 2.5M+ views on the original TikTok post. Now their fastest growing song to date, “Like 1999” has helped push their catalog to eclipse over 100 million streams while breaking borders, appearing on viral charts in the U.S., Philippines, Korea, Japan and more.

After an unprecedented year for live music, Valley is excited to reconnect with their fans to perform across North America. The band is gearing up to play Wunderbus Festival in Columbus, OH and Bottlerock Festival in Napa Valley, CA at the end of the summer and then joining COIN on a 17-date North American tour this fall.
